We get in our first defence of the FA Cup! Who'd a guessed that. 3-2 anyone?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We'll have our two new wingers by then, unless their cup tied from their previous clubs 1st round games of course

Agree0 Disagree0

Who is that?

Rosicky and Walcott?

I completely admit I have slipped into Wenger out mode, and really that is where I am.
I must say though, that yelling foul abuse at him is not my thing at all, I just hope he saves his dignity and steps aside, as I would hate to seem him remembered for anything other than his fantastic contribution to out football club.

So again it feels like one step forward two steps backwards. From the highs of 3 consecutive clean sheets to the lows of that defensive catastrophe at the weekend. If nothing else us Arsenal fans are always took on one hell of a ride every year.

A few pointers regarding our weekend clash with the mighty Potters. So where to begin.

1) Mr Bellerin was very poor. A number of folk on this site among others have claimed for weeks (ie Robbie repeatedly) that he should be a starter until Debuchy returns. No way. The kid has talent but he is very young and way out of his depth in the EPL at the moment. This game would have shattered his confidence and getting hooked at half time even more so. Shame really.

2) Mr Chambers was the worst player on the pitch for me. I have said it before and shall say it again I have seen nothing to justify a £16,000,000 fee. Sure he is young and English and athletic but the basics are just not there. He is rash and his decision making is poor. Fair enough playing alongside the cumbersome Per is not ideal but he has to be better. Before everyone jumps down my throat and tells me 'he's still young' or 'he wasn't signed to be in the first team' etc, no matter what club you are if you pay £16 million for a player he should be able to step up and play at the level you play at. Could that money have been spent better? Definitely.

3) Mr Wenger had another tactical shocker. Unlike other posters (such as Banbury) I do not want Arsenal to lose ever but I can see where those types of views are coming from. We are caught in a situation were if we win the gaffer will be applauded and his position unquestioned but if we lose it may be the only way to see him leave. I am disgusted by our fans in the video not because they are expressing their views (we live in a democratic society) but the fact it reflects poorly on our club which has always acted with dignity and class. If nothing else Mr Wenger has always conducted himself professionally and should be respected even if he isn't every ones cup of tea.

4) Lastly going back to the banner the other week which read 'thanks for the memories but it's time to say goodbye' got major stick on this site. However, that banner could have said 'Sack Wenger', 'Wenger is killing our club' or worse. I'll ask you would you rather the fans expressed their opinion like that or by the tirade of abuse aimed at Arsene in the video? You can't have it both ways, fans have a voice which should be heard. For me the banner was the equivalent of a Private giving a salute to an ageing General. He respects the man, he knows he has done some incredible things but he knows deep down the General has had his day and it's time to let someone else take his place.

I know I will get stick for this post. "Bellerin was unlucky, still young and didn't play badly" or "Chambers will be the best defender in the world in a few years" etc. But I am talking about now, our immediate present and what's best for our club. I repeat I am only one fan with a my own view but I do have the clubs best interest at heart.

{Ed025's Note - i enjoyed that VDG, good stuff..

Great to have a mention VDG lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Van and we all want what we believe is best for our club mate (or should) we are just divided on how's best to get there.
I think rather than banners or shouting abuse at a man who doesn't deserve to be getting that sort of treatment wearing dignified plain black tea rubbishs ( no slogans) similar to the orange ones worn for Bergkamps last game or whatever colour best to signify peoples feelings on the subject.
It quietly makes the point and TV camera's and commentators would soon make viewers aware of why people were wearing them

As much as a lot of people dislike the oil money in football I'd actually love a guy like Sheik Mansour to own our club.

The fact the man loves football and wants to build not only a great side but everything that goes with it is wonderful to see.

You have to take your hat off to him for what he's done both on and off the pitch to put the red side of Mancester firmly in their shade.

Both he and Abramovich have spent countless billions but they are seriously planning to ensure the respective clubs have a lasting future.

They're lads that aren't profiteers looking to drain from the game, they want to succeed on a personal level and aren't afraid to spend to get it.

Trophies reflect there ambition and serve their egos, which is the worst way I can put it but isn't at all a negative sentiment. Its the mentality of a competitor.

For Kreonke its a business plain and simple. Trophies only serve to strengthen income leads. Fans to him reflect his earning potential. I don't understand the fear of oil money in the game, no different to diamond money but it has to go into the game. Kreonke is exactly what the game does not need or want. He takes money from the game. And if Liverpool got there act together its precisely how FSG would act.

Mansour has done more than abramovic. Chelsea still play in a shed and always will do it seems.

That training facility Mansour has built is incredible and could really change football in this country for decades

Agree0 Disagree0

AG. Abram wants to extend and change the ground but when the club was sold the pitch was given to fans I believe. To stop him getting full control. He wants a bugger stadium but isn't possible yet. If I wad them i'd let him

Iv been saying for years let usmanov in

Agree0 Disagree0

Abram does wants to build tho. But the fans own the pitch a believe. So its tricky

On a serious note Derby imagine that was your 65yr old father being abused by group of young guys, it doesn't matter who you are, what you do or how much you earn abuse directed at a 65yr old guy is nothing short of pathetic.

No justification what so ever for that sort of treatment of a man who has given 18 years of his life to our club.
He is doing what he thinks is best for the club, I doubt his ability greatly and believe he should stand down as he refuses to listen learn or change his idea's but I don't for one minute doubt his love for the club.
He deserves better than that

What manager would wsnt to come to our club based on how we treat a nanager held in such high esteem in footbsll

what player would want to sign fir us based on how we booed Ozil, Arshavin etc

we don't help ourselves or portray our great club very well at times - think some people think signing a player is like buying beans from asda - WAKE UP!

Treat the players and manager with the respect they deserve - they gey paid a lot because of you buying tickets, shirts, sky tv etc. It is not their fault and they are still human - so treat them with respect

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you SY4..

Not saying it is right

It hasn't stopped anyone going to Man U after their treatment of D Moyes.

Players /Managers will walk to most 'BIG' clubs regardless.

I include 'pool and spurs in that comment also

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes nearer my grandad age lol. Anyway

I saw my grandad on satnight first thing he says arsenal need a new manager asap. He isn't an arsenal at all.

My dad also says too many weak players. And he's said wenger is finished for 3 years. He is also not a fan

So tbh my dad wouldn't let us get this bad even they see wengers errors.

What are your ratings on gibbs. I think the lad lacks defending. We need someone who can block a cross and one who can supply a decent cross in attack.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He needs to step up his game big style to ever be a top LB, I'd have brought back Cashly in the summer to share the job with and learn from him, obviously playing Gibbs at the Emirates to cut down the abusive language :-) it wouldn't be a popular thing to do but hey ho its a premier league campaign not a popularity competition and closing bthye gap on the big boys wouldn't be exactly unpopular at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gibbs is one of the best LB's in England, what he lacks in natural defensive awareness he makes up for in pace.

Love the guy, but his injury record is not good

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2014 15:20:10
Why do you think cashley would even want to come to us??

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh i'm not liking him this season. He often gets caught out defensively by running forward yet doesn't offer anything in attack.

He either needs to be more defensive minded and not let us get exposed or turn into roberto carlos. And top of that he is extremely injury prone.

If I was arsenal manager ill be tempted to bring in another lb in the summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Fantastic player, no idea why Wenger insists on putting Özil/Santi on the wing when he's available.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2014 19:23:16
He links up brilliantly with Podolski on the attack, because he's not much of a dribbler gibbs would overlap a lot drive to the line and cut back.

Sanchez has actually cost us a lot of with in that regard, he cuts inside very early and doesn't get his head up an awful lot

Have seen a lot of posts quoting high profile names which would solve all of our problems, please understand we do not live in an ideal world, I understand 'suggested names' being banded around but when people think we can just go and get these players we have to understand that in order to sign a player it is not simple.

The club which the player is contracted to must agree to either sell or allow their player to speak to us.

The player needs to 'want' to come and play for us, and in most cases uproot their family to live in England (big decision)

The price must be realistic.

We only have a certain amount of places in our squad so we need to sell before we buy.

The player needs to be better than we already have.

We have already breached ffp rules due to our wage bill so if a big earning player comes in, a big earner needs to leave.

The transfer window is shut and January is the hardest time to buy as the selling club would need to be able to replace a 'world class' player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

On a positive note, we are having an awful season but we are still above Spurs!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate the January window and wish it didn't exist at all because it leads to nothing but argument and disappointment each year.
I would much rather extend the summer window to opening the day after the CL final and closing the Friday before the new season kicks off.
But you have to play by the rules that do exist not the ones you wish did, so the best DM and CB you can get either loan buy swap bring out of retirement what ever, just try and fix things the best you can, just do something to try and fix our problems.
There's much more dignity in trying and getting it wrong than doing nothing and hiding behind excuses

Agree0 Disagree0

Wonder what Keown is doing now? Maybe he can still play a bit? I've heard Adams has sorted himself out and stopped the booze, imagine what a player he would have been if he was sober? If I was Bouldy I would bring my boots to the next game, he might get 45 mins.

Keep smiling G62

Agree0 Disagree0

If only that 45 minutes was the first half at Stoke on Saturday 337 :-) any or all of them could hardly have done worse than Calum (I don't do headiers ) Merts ( I don't do jumping or heading) or Gibbs ( I'm not getting in the way of that its cold and will sting) Oh for the days of our defenders actually living up to their job description

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep, Adams would have gone out friday night had 10 pints, worn a short sleeved shirt, no shin pads, kicked crouch and shawcross in to the crowd and made it back to the pub for ten more pints on saturday!

I have come to realized that arsenal fans are the most inconsistent, so I don't take us serious anymore, neither do I bother myself with our rantings, today like always every one is shouting for AW's head, majority wants him out bcos his team has being woeful this season, the moment the team manage to strewn few wins on the bounce, the song and dance will change, the same fans will put up banner's at every opportunity proclaiming IN ARSENE WE TRUST, the same villain will tranform to a hero overnight, yes wenger and his team are inconsistent, so are we fans.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think anyone seriously belives Arsene will ever make us champions again as the gap between us and the real contender's is getting wider not narrower and with only two seasons to bridge that massive gap its impossible without a serious overhaul of tactics and strategy.
There are those who are happy to be lead by Arsene no matter where it leads us and those who want Arsenal football club to be all it can be no matter who leads us there.
Just my opinion but Arsene and major trophies are incompatible in the modern game

Wenger stated that defending is for older players. Can he please explain why he went into the season with only 5 experienced defenders. Having to rely on inexperienced 19 year old Chambers, Bellerin & Hayden, as the only cover.
Meanwhile he allowed Jenkinson to go on loan. Sold Vermaelen & Miquel. Sagna also left.
He then kept two defensove midfield players whose best days are behind them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So he wouldn't sign young varane if he was available :(

Team for Galatasaray.

Martinez:
Bellerin, Hayden, Chambers, Gibbs:
Flamini, Rosicky, Ox:
Campbell, Welbeck, Podolski:

Ox, Sanchez, Mertesacker and Ramsey all desperatly need a rest. Giroud, Koscielny, Szszency and Monreal should sit out to help return from injury.

Not
Important if we win or lose. We have a small chance of finishing top in group anyway. Kos and Giroud have to stay fit, that is key to this busy schedule of games.

Newcastle at home won't be straight forward or easy. But anything but 3 points will be a disaster.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with your selection, only I would play Sanogo (if fit) & use a reserve left back. With Monreal injured, I wouldn't risk injury-prone Gibbs in what should be a meaningless match. We have to have our strongest team out against Newcastle and somehow patch the defence togther until the transfer window opens. Wenger must line up the purchase of 2 defenders & 1 defensive midfield player, to come in as soon as the window opens.

I think for January / Next season we should have a defence of.

First choice: Debuchy, Kos, New CB, Gibbs
Second choice: Jenks, Mert, Chambers, New LB

New CB - Hummels, Chiellin, Varane are very optimistic options. Slightly more realistically we could get Subotic, Abdennour or Howedes. But honestly, Ashley Williams, Toby Alderweireld or Virgil Van Dijk would give us much needed depth and a different option to Mertesacker.

New LB - Heard the name Mings afew times, I don't actually know who he is so not going to comment. But I think we need someone just as good as Gibbs to challenge him and provide good cover when he's inevitably injured. Fabio Coentrao would be a immense if we could pull that off. But I'd settle for someone like Emilio Insua or Domenico Critisco.

New CDM has to be a high profile, physical player. Lars Bender, Khedira, Carvalho or even Schnierdlin.

Agree0 Disagree0

Detroit on next seasons defence I think
Debuchy New Kos New
And
Jenks Chambers New Gibbs
For me Gibbs ain't got 38 games in him and needs real competition to get the best out of him and Merts is slow can't jump and lost his edge so should make way.
Chuck a DM in and I'd be pro whoever did that be his name Arsene or Dags

If AW goes who can replace him? One of the most common questions. Everybody has their options I wonder how would TONY PULIS do if he was put in charge? Does it have to be a foreign manager who does not know EPL? Why not T Pulis? Brilliant job at CP last yeat with a limited budget and an eye for sorting out defensive formations problems something we need (1-0 victories not mentioning beating chelsea with HM on charge something that never happened to AW). Wonder what he could achieve with the money AFC has?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You my friend are deluded.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a feeling we won't finish top four, I hope I am wrong.
If so, I can see Wenger going, as appears to be losing the battle to keep the fans on board. He has made horrendous decisions this season by not signing two additional defenders & two combative defensive midfield players. Put Hummels, Mings, Scneiderlin & Sissoko into the squad and overnight the team will improve. Take out Flamini, Arteta, Monreal. Allow Bellerin & Hayden to go out on loan and you ahve a serious squad. We have the funds to do this.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Wenger goes, the obvious choices to replace him are: Mourinho, Guardiola, Simone or Ancelotti. None of these are available and all would be very difficult to secure.
Why not give Pullis a chance. He did wonders with Stoke & Crystal Palace and hasn't had the opportunity of managing at the top level. You only have to look at the much maligned Sam Allardyce, to see what managers such as Pullis & Allardyce can do with limited resources. Imagine Wenger managing the teams they managed. Would he have done any better?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ideally I would give them 5 players each and Tony stop us conceding stupid goals and Arsene get us the goals to win the game.
If only they didn't dislike each other so intently :-) but they do and Arsene would want Kos up front to annoy Tony and Tony would want Sanchez a CB to wind up Arsene.
Wed be relegated but it vwould be fun watching them on the side lines trying to trip each other up

Benteke had an excellent game today. i'd love to see him with our supply line. Scarey

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Benteker's or Bony derby? If could have one for the same price and injury free who would you choose?

Agree0 Disagree0

Id make a hybrid in a lab. bentekony lol

for me bony is the better finisher but all round game i'd go benteke. he's quicker, stronger and gets in behind better. but hel take time to get back to top form. villas record when he's injured is horrible.
