Guys I realise I ain’t a v consistent poster but really in the mood for a conversation/ debate tonight 😂

If we were to delve into the market in January what/ who do you think we need to really consolidate our top 4 credentials?

Myself personally I’d love a winger no names jump out at me but I really think we lack a serious, top quality winger. Imagine a hazard in our team we’d challenge city for goals.

We also are leaking goals and I think a cb in the ilk of van dijk (big, strong, good with the ball) would really help us. Koulibaly comes to mind but I’d guess out of our price range.

Last but not least I think Kolasinac hasn’t really been the wing back we’ve or emery would want him to be. Emery has got Bellerin back to his world class potential he had showed a couple years ago. Emery expects a lot of his full backs and they are integral to Provide width, get in behind. and cutting back for a tap in, Bellerin has adapted well while i think kol has struggled, Again no names spring to mind but id be interested in names you guys would know as well as if you believe other positions would be of a priority.

A CB definitely and a wide attacking player too but I think Kol is doing ok and isn't long back from injury so I'd stick with him and see how he progress under Dick fur the rest of this season
Top 4 would be brilliant but this season is mostly about good foundations and finding out who can and can't make the grade under Emery.
This season is just the beginning and it's gong to be a marathon not a sprint making us competive again.

we really need a top quality CB, but utd do too and we won't be able to match them in a bidding war for the very best. also they seem hard and expencive to find, think how much city have spent just on CBs before settling. utd bought 2 £30 mil CBs and most of their fans think they need one or two moreand the ones they are linked with are £60-90 mil, i doubt we would spend much over £30 mil on a CB and in the current market £30 mil can still be a bit of a gamble. I think we need a winger too, but i'm really excited for nelson to come back and on current form it would be hard to aquire a better winger. I fear if we did find one he might move on to get game time. i would hope he can fill the winger position and spend as much as possible on a top CB.

But do we need to outbid or out smart United? Fred cost them 52 millions and Pogba 90 million while Torreira cost us 26 million and Guendouzi 16 million.
142 million for United v 42 million for us.
It's not how much but how well you spend and there really are 100s of virtually unknown players just waiting for someone to spot them (Sven) then bring out the best in them (Dick) .
Sure if your looking for a new motor and you've got 20 or 30k to spare just pop to your local dealership for an off the production line model but there are some cracking motors out there for under 2k just waiting for someone to snap them up.

Gouendouzi, gunner, i believe was 8 mil, so even better figures.

Just goes to show lads money isn't the obstacle people sometimes make it, money is no substitute for great scouting and excellent coaching and management.
Kante was 5 million that any premier league club could easily afford but very few had the ability to spot and develope while Pogba at 90 million that very few could afford but any fool could spot.
Mega money is simply the freedom to not to have to always be the smartest to get the job done while working on a smaller budget requires a really good team behind the scenes all working together to create an outstanding team on the pitch.
Emery is excellent at what he does and Sven is excellent at what he does and along with other excellent people all being allowed to do what they do best too we have every chance of overcoming the gulf in financial ability and once again becoming a major force in the game.

Guys what do you think is wrong with Mesut? Left out with “back spasms” for all three games this week. Seems v strange to me. I heard all the Fortnite theories but surely there’s a rift or am I just reading too much into it? 😂
If he doesn’t fancy Ozil I hope he doesn’t disregard a no.10 completely. I believe he prefers 3 cm’s From his time at Sevilla and psg but I think a 10 can be the difference between winning and losing a game, just a moment of brilliance or instinct. Torreira is almost play all 3 midfield positions atm. Cdm, cm and cam and might I add, doing the business in all 3.
Like to hear your feedback on the matter even if you think I’m way off the mark or not 😂.
Ps. I know we winning with his formula and don’t doubt him in the slightest just think a 10 on song will define us from being a good team and us being a great team.

Hi Dempo I too think a good number 10 can be the difference but they have to be effective in almost every game to justify their place in the team, better no number 10 if they are a passenger.
Mesut is a wonderful player but I personally think he struggles morw mentally than he let's on, I think all the horrible stuff he experienced during and after the world cup has hurt him more than he let's on.
We are all different and Aaron Ramsey really isn't interested what others think he knows he's among the world's very best while Ozil needs to feel the love to be at his best.

08 Dec 2018 21:43:59
Ozil misses more games through "mystery" illnesses than i know. He is flimsy and temperamental, diva like. We pay him far too much money to be a diva, we need more from him or ship him out.

I feel that Emery isn't happy with his options when we play his favoured 4-2-3-1, as none of the players in the '3' offer much defensively and hence why he has changed his formation recently to stiffen up the midfield area. Emery has agreed to let Ramsey go and it appears that Ozil will also depart, assuming we can find a taker. I expect a couple of signings, a wide player and midfield player that can attack and defend. So 2 signings in January and possibly 2 or 3 more in the summer window.
I expect the following players to move on over the next couple of windows:
Cech (summer)
Lichtsteiner (summer)
Chambers
Elneny
Welbeck (Injured and no deal offered)
Ramsey (deal withdrawn)
Ozil (Not consistent enough, etc)
Jenkinson

I see youngsters coming through strongly next season such as Nelson, Mavropanos. Smith-Rowe and possibly 2 or 3 others.
I like Emery's decisiveness. It's refreshing after hanging onto failing players under the previous regime.

Yesterday is history and Tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift and that's why it's called the present.
Right now the most important Arsenal team ever are the current Arsenal team.
This City team are a brilliant team 100 points in a season is no fluke
This Liverpool team is the best Liverpool team for 20 years and if they can go the rest of the season unbeaten then good luck to them.
I'm not that fussed about looking at old holiday snaps and other people's holiday photos are quite boring in reality for me it's all about the memories this new Arsenal create with our new manager that matters most.

Lucas Torriera or Patrick viera not asking for opinions but looking at a player who will dig us out. Scrap us to points that we usually would have dropped. What is it 20 or 21 games unbeaten and surely fighting tooth and nail to the end. A frustrating performance but you can take some good from the game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Dec 2018 18:06:25
Torreira is awesome. I believe we were all worried after we lost the 2 opening matches, albeit to Man City and Chelsea. Who would have believed that we would then go unbeaten for 21 matches and counting?
Shame we lost Mustafi with what appears to be an injury that will possibly keep him out for a few weeks. We started the season with Koscielny and Mavrapanos injured, hence the 3 centre backs have had very little rest and clearly fatigue and injury has caught up with them. The positive thing is that Koscileny was back in the squad today, whilst Lichtsteiner and fit again Monreal can also play at CB. Mavropanos should be back in training this month. This week we can rest Sokratis on Thursday.
Well done to Emery and the team today.

{Ed0333's Note - well done indeed mate

08 Dec 2018 18:32:10
Sokratis will also get a suspension enforced rest against Southampton!
Interesting to see whi we play at CB in that match. Is Koscielny fit enough to play 90 mins PL football? If he is, then perhaps a trio at CB of Koscielny, Lichtsteiner and Monreal?

Not a beautiful performance but a beautiful result, one which keeps momentum one that day we took 3 points on a day off.

I think sano the midfield with torreira and Gouendouzi for the future is safe, both today looked to push the game forward and their passing and movement is great. Both like to mix it as well. I think the value of both has sky rocketed. The amount of defensive problems is a worry but it will be interesting to see how we cope.

A win is a win and the win is the most important thing. What is going wrong in the first half and why do we do so well in the second?
As long as we win, i suppose it doesn't matter.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Dec 2018 18:33:57
Perhaps our fitness tells in the second half? It is a bit baffling as we appear to have relegation form in the first half, whilst we have Champions form in the second half!

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2018 18:54:41
Not sure its fitnes, all teams are fit nowadays but there is definitely something amiss in the first half. Maybe Dicks approach is caution, maybe the players don't gel at the start, i don't know but it is not a problem until we get beat, i suppose.

08 Dec 2018 20:48:14
I think emery asks the players to size up the opposition in the first half, get info what’s their strengths/ weaknesses where space can be created and relay it back to him at half time. I believe that’s why he changes things up early and why we get better results in second half 👍.

08 Dec 2018 17:23:21
Well played boys - win when your not at your best and a clean sheet.
Nice to see Torriera on the score sheet again. Dropped off the defender to anticipate PEA ball back into the box. Nice bit of intelligence and good finish.

Yet another first half where aren't ahead! Just an observation and certainly not a criticism because it's the full time whistle that matters but how weird we can't win a first half this season when so much else is going brilliantly.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

08 Dec 2018 17:12:56
Disjointed all round, but three points is the most significant outcome. I still think the beginning of next season is when we will see they shape of Emery's team - in the meantime, a top four finish will be a success for this year in the EPL, and the win helps.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Dec 2018 18:17:47
As things stand U C we are on target for 80 plus points this season which you've got to hope is enough for top 4 finish even this season where the standard at the top is unbelievably high regarding points per game.
Whether it's enough or not for us to break the 80pt barrier for the fist time in over a decade in Dicks first season would be incredibly, long way to go but a fantastic first 4 moths whatever.

Agree1 Disagree1

08 Dec 2018 11:21:16
We shouldn't and I very much doubt Dick will allow us to underestimate Huddersfield but I do think our CB injury issue is eased by us not needing to play 3 at the back today.
Papa and Mustafi should be able to cope well enough as a 2 as long as the midfield chip in and help out by not leaving them totally exposed on the break.
I'd play 4 3 3 today but with clear instructions that 1 of the middle 3 must always be on defensive duty at all times, if 2 go 1 has to stay.
Yes we could probably out score Huddersfield in a free flowing end to end game but that would do nothing to improve us in the long term, good habits take time to install and if we consistently do the right things defensively as well as in attack life will get easier at the back when we rally need it.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

08 Dec 2018 14:10:14
Looks like it's a back three of Mustafi, Lichtsteiner, and Sokratis, with five in the middle and auba and Laca up front. No Mhiki or Ozil in the hole, so quite an odd line up for us.

Injuries and (others like Ozil) leave us looking a bit short. Still only a few weeks before January.
