Arsenal poll of the day.

Is Giroud good enough?

Currently stands at 50/50.

Interesting to say the least.

Personally, I voted yes. I just think if you stick somebody alongside him, even Remy or Bony, we would get even more out of him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hes not what I look for in a striker. Lacks pace, not mobile, not especially good in the air and I don't see us winning anything with him as our main striker. I would suggest if it is 50/50 then he isnt. Would henry, wright or rvp be 50/50 I think therr is your answer.

Agree0 Disagree0

You are spot on Dags he has scored 22 goals, let's say he scores another 3, how can we not be happy with a striker who scores that many when playing up front on his own?

Agree0 Disagree0

Steve . those strikers you have mentioned would walk into any team in the world on their day, also look how many times Giroud has set others up, how much pace did Teddy Sheringham have?

Agree0 Disagree0

Im sorry I don't rate him but I dont. He is not up to the level required to beat the best. If we played villa Newcastle stoke palace totenham or swansea every week fine, he's capable. I just don't think he has the tools for the elite teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

Banbury for us to compete with any team in the world our strikers have to be good enough to play for them to be good enough to play against them

Agree0 Disagree0

What a joke. So you've got to be good enough to play for the other team if you wanna play for our team. glad you ain't the manager

Agree0 Disagree0

Jack if you take the time to read the whole posts you might just gry yhe gist.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jacks right here steve,

is giroud good enough to work with the blitzing attacking speed of liverpool?

No.

Is he good enough to run on to through balls from nasri and david silva at citeh?

No.

is he good enough to play the lone striker at chelsea with his overlapping midfielders in oscar and hazard?

Yes.

one player doesn't make the team, in the same way utilizing wallcott as a defensive striker, holding up play ect, is stupid. saying giroud isn't good enough for certain teams is silly when they play completely different to the striker.

is giroud good enough for a guaranteed starting spot? imho not quite.

is he good enough to wear the red and white of the arsenal? I think so. we just need that fast attacking finisher, which we may have in Theo

Agree0 Disagree0

Is he good enough for man u, no, is he good enough for real, no, is he good enough for barca, no, is he good enough fot bayern, no. The answer was a reference to something banbury had said. But I still say if hesnot good enough for the top teams why is he good enough for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

And i'm pretty sure maureen hiho won't be banging down our door to get him.

I love the way transfers are discussed, last summer we shipped a load of players out and got how many in, there was a load of talk about 3, 4 or 5 players coming in. what did we get . The same again, we will ship out several players and get . not many in

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You could be right mate

The Ox is still out, get the feeling they over played him on his return and he's in for another of these mysteriously long lay offs. Hope not.

I would swear here but best not!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bit harsh there Jenny, this is Arsenal, we don't do long lay-off's.

Oh, hold on.

#Tongue in cheek.

Agree0 Disagree0

A mate from London has heard a whisper that he won't feature again for Arsenal this season, normally he is pretty good with info, though on this occasion he is 50/50.

Lets hope he doesn't feature and stay at home to watch the WC with Theo on the TV

Agree0 Disagree0

Ive heard jack and the ox are almost fine.

with nothing to play for they are being rested for the wc, as wenger believes the experience of being an important player at a WC will do them both the world of good.

Ed002, could you make a list of players Arsenal have shown interest in, similar to the list you made for the Chelsea page last week? That would be awesome. Thanks

Don't you just love the press, it must be like Christmas for them approaching a transfer window.

Especially with us, knowing the history of our spending, but what we the fans actually want Arsenal to do.

Keeps the money pouring into the bookies too, they must be making a killing off United right now.

Patience is definately going to be a virtue this summer, so just hang on and enjoy the ride.

Pointless fretting.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really don't see many munich players moving, its not like they have had a rubbish season.

they may have lost the champions league to eventual winners but they have won the league and could win the cup against dortmund.

Besides Kroos who may join united, if they are offering what is being touted, then I don't see any other player leaving bayern, perhaps some who are on the fringes leaving and they will add more key players if there is such a thing for them.

Madrid, Barcelon, Man utd, Chelsea, PSG, will be the ones who will sell big key players to raise cash to make even substantial bids on other players.

We will land Lars bender, if we can agree a deal, and then we will pick up the what remains from the inflated auction.

Once Madrid land their Main striker then the other teams will react. If Aguero is actually on the move it may force a reaction from barca, if the messi rumours are to be believed, which means Madrid act, which means money goes a bit nuts and then we will slide in with some crazy offers, make some deals and call it a transfer window.

but yet again I do not see us adding that special or world class player until the last week of the transfer window, going by what wenger said, and the fact the world cup will just inflate prices.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Arsene is unhappy with what we got (scary I know) he will only spend if the player he really wants is available, ie last season no Saurez no striker.
We will deffinately strengthen the squad but as for players who can make our best 11 if its not exactly who he wants it ain't going to happen.

Who would have Serge Aurier as Sagna's replacement?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he is a quality player. perhaps not proven on the biggest stage but his progress and the fact some of the biggest clubs rate him only means that he will be a bonus to the team. may not hit the ground running and may not be the best RB in the EPL for atleast two years, but if he does progress he can be one hell of a defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't mind Aurier but I think we can do better. I would prefer Abate or Piszczek

Agree0 Disagree0

Aurier would suit us perfectly. I prefer Coleman as he has proven premiership quality but I think Aurier would be a star.

I wouldn't be disappointed with Aurier but where does that leave our wonderfuly gifted bellerin
I think Bellerin is going to a great fullback and we would be foolish to halt his growth as a player

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - welcome Mzansi..

Defo Piszczek over Aurier for me! But then again I thinks jenks and bellerin could handle it with Flamini to cover if salt hits the fan

Agree0 Disagree0

Nathaniel Clyne for me.

Question for the Gooners:

Will the likes of Sagna, Mertesacker and Giroud play this weekend or will they be rested for the FA cup? Will AW want to show off some of his youth players seems Arsenal cannot finish no higher or lower than 4th? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd like to see the likes of bellerin, eisfeld and akpom given a go,
Like you say there's no point risking injury to key players.

Agree0 Disagree0

I expect the team will look something like this;

Szczesny, Jenkinson, Per, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Flamini, Wilshere, Gnabry, Zelalem, Rosicky, Sanogo.

The FA Cup final team will be something like;

Fabianski, Sagna, Per, Kos, Gibbs, Arteta, Ramsey, Ox, Ozil, Cazorla, Giroud. (if Ox is not fit then Podolski)

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the replies, my rivals on my Dreamteam are close behind me and they have Sagna and Giroud. I am hoping AW plays Sanogo seems he's been disappointing and this game could be perfect to break his duck.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to be careful 'resting'players' as they need to be match sharp. Prefer to give them some time on the pitch at least.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love to see Jenks get a game if Bac is leaving us

It's silly season again, when we are being linked will loads of multi-million pound signings. Once the season ticket sales have been completed, I expect the following will happen:
1) Fabianski & Vivianno will leave. A keeper will be signed on a free or at low cost, with Martinez being 3rd choice.
2) Sagna will probably depart, with a replacement signed for £10m abs max. Or Jenkinson with Bellerin as cover.
3) if Vermaelen leaves, a replacement will be signed using the funds received.
4) A striker will be signed - possibly Drmic or similar player for £8m.
5) A midfield signing for £15-20m

So a maximum of 5 signings, probably fewer at a net cost after other minor sales of £30-35m absolute maximum, probably less.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Who we selling to create 30-35m?

Agree0 Disagree0

Id Be happy with that personally

Agree0 Disagree0

Rocky - The net outlay, I suggest will be an outlay of around £30-35m.
The sales may be Djourou £3m?, Vermaelen £10m ish.
The only other possible sales, which I don't think will happen are Podolski & Giroud.

Agree0 Disagree0

1) the Gk situation is not that dire, sczesny has not been the worlds best but he has improved and possibly could be one of the worlds best or in the top 10 atleast.

2) Sagna departing, the issue is if he joins man city, which seems likely, then that FFP will count for nowt. they will pay him insane wages, cover a position they already have cover for and weaken us.

3) Vermalen leaving i'm still not sure, perhaps I guess it depends on how much is being offered for him, I don't think he will be sold for a loss.

4) If we sign Drmic, it means sanogo takes bendtners spot, Drmic takes second spot, and giroud is our main striker. Also recently read that leverkusen are in the lead to sign the player.

5) a DM seems to be the priority. Khedira, bender, Martinez, Schneiderlin, these are the names I want us to be linked to, so hopefully we land one of them. my preference would be Martinez, bender, Khedira (only because of his recent injury)

we still need to buy a striker and I expect us if we really want to contend in all competitions to buy one of Benzema, Cavani, Balotelli.

if we are going youth then i'd like us to try for Domenico Berrardi, Alvaro Morata and Drmic ( although i'm not sure he is good enough for the epl)

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will show a profit in this summers window, losing a few established players and bringing in some real bargain buys for the future.

Only joking :-)
But many a true word said in jest.
Its will we won't we time again folks

on the Arteta Vs Kallstrom debate, for me they take up the same role in the squad(next season at least,

experienced (aka older)
midfielder
Benchwarmer

in my opinion arteta is the more possession minded, and is good when the going gets good, but seems to have forgotten his route to arsenal, via scotland and merseyland.

Kallstrom for me has the legs on arteta and is more direct, I see him synergising with rosicky well and from what i've seen his standing tackle is much better.

Arteta obviously has more weight in the dressing room, which could be argued is the most important factor given his role (experienced midfield
Benchwarmer) but as a bench player i'd rather someone who can change a game than someone who can keep one ticking over, and kallstrom to me has more chance of doing that.

Loyalty to players is something i'd like to factor, but at the end of the day we just have to ask a few players in the top 3 about loyalty and there's only 1 i'd listen to, even if he slips up now and then :P

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Neither Arteta or Kallstrom are the type of player to "come on and change a game". Both are exactly the type of player to bring on to hold the fort.

In any case, Kallstrom won't be here next season so discussing his suitability is pointless.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alright let's try this one more time, so-called ARS supporters;

- Arteta on short notice took a gut in pay to join our beloved team,

- he has prolific offensive talent but subdues it for the benefit of the team and helps with wonky season,

- critically switches positions knowing he will not get the credit he deserves and works tirelessly for the club,

- is one of the best guys in the clubhouse that all the others look up to and helps welcome the Cazorla types,

So when he is lumped in with some nobody who was here for a cup a tea, its a joke. He should be allowed to go out on his own terms - if he wants a support role fine, if he deserves to start (my opinion) great, if he wants a more front line role elsewhere fine - he has earned the right to choose because he gave it all for the club. Nuff said!

Agree0 Disagree0

You keep crowing Rosster - greqt post. We should all look towards the loyalty the player has given and the ability he still has and treat him with RESPECT!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi red rooster.
excellent post, totally agree.
M Arteta is awesome and plays for the team, does the role set for him, and puts 100% in every time. some of the rest should look to do similar.
smashing post!:)
COYG andi:)

Agree0 Disagree0

I like your questioning of supportive loyalty rooster, even though you couldn't be bothered to type ARSENAL out :P

but on a serious note, arteta has been a loyal player, who's attacking prolificness is really relative to averageness at arsenal.(we mainly sign attacking passers)

he took a 10k p/w pay cut.
its like a 12% pay decrease (which is a lot even I admit, and i'm used to 10% agent fees for my art.)
but you forget the added win bonus' from champions league football which arteta was desperate for.

if a player is simply doing his job for 'deserving credit' and not for the actual team then I want him as far away from us as possible (unless its nxt door)

i stated that he has massive weight with the foreign lads at arsenal, but what do we want a HR worker or a decent player?

Agree0 Disagree0

Its obvious that we need a RB, CB, CDM, LW and ST. We all want Wenger to splash £120m and buy Kherdira, Draxler, Costa etc. But that won't happen. In terms of spending £40m+ on a single player. But the days of selling our top talent and replacing them with players 1/2 the price is over. I believe we will have a net spend of £50m.

So proposed the following 5 (Wenger like) signings were made, would you take it or leave it in hope of Wenger changing his ways.

RB - Aurier - £6m
CB - Ginter - £10m
CDM - Schnierdlin - £12m
LW - Griezman - £20m
ST - Remy - £12m

What do you think? I think this does give us the pace we need up top, a different option to Giroud, decent cover at the back and a rock solid midfielder.

Assuming we keep Fabianksi, Vermaelen and Podolski, i'd take that all day long.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Knowing we have some cash and are willing to spend, I think your numbers could be off, they are worthy prices, but you have to add inflation

aurier 8-10
ginter 10-12
schnierdlin(southamption have already said they have no need to sell either) so askin would be 15 at least 15-20
griezman 20
remy 10-15

Agree0 Disagree0

Good names all of them, but might as well drive Podolski and TV5 to the airport as they would have each slipped a notch in the pecking order and neither seems too happy with the time they get now.
