I know allegri would most likely be our coach next season, but i do have reservations about him as a coach not tactically, his style of play. I know i have been the biggest critic of wenger but i have always admired his commitment to attacking football. why would the club abandon a style it created for many years under wenger and suffer an identity crisis like manchester united?

I wouldn't mind allegri but i would prefer an attacking coach but with a modern approach like a guardiola someone like nagelsmann would be perfect. I wouldn't mind arteta too but think the job would be too early for him. My pick is nagelsmann. i feel like he is the next best thing in football. What he did with hoffenheim is extraordinary. How he transformed someone like sule into a ball playing defender is to be applauded.

That said allegri wouldn't be a bad choice. I would get behind the team and with allegri at the helm and as good as he is tactically, i think we will win something and probably go far in the champions league. He is the best in-game manager in my opinion in the whole world. How he can tweak something or make an inspired substitution is incredible. He took an ageing juventus team into to finals, i wouldn't be surprised if he won us the champions league but i only have a problem with his style. I think we can win the champions league in the next five years and win it while playing attractive football if we employ a coach like nagelsmann and give him time to build a team.

Only hairy punani that wears socks with birkenstocks 😂 that was poetic I think.

You can always trust Stoner and Sano to bring down the tone of a place.

P.S: can someone please tell me what a punani is. I tried to search for it on Google but you don't even want to know the type of results I was getting.

It’s a small hamlet in Sri Lanka Sharpie or it could be a beautiful Hawaiian flower or it’s a word people in Indian use to describe a lady garden.

But then you didn’t have to google it to find that out, now did you Sharpie! 😉😂

Besides, it was a completely innocent question 🙄.

A small hamlet or helmet in a Sri Lankan bush stoner 😂 I think he likes his punani to be able to eat a frankfurter through a sandal.

I hope Ozils back gets better, otherwise carrying all them wages home could damage it for good. Hope it doesn't bother him too much in the world cup.

Steve show some empathy here the bloke has to choose between being in miss turkey’s arms and labouring against everton away on a cold windy night. I know which one i would choose :-)

On a serious note, this is getting out of hand. In my entire years of watching premier league football, i have never seen a player who misses as many games due to illness like ozil does. It sounds suspect.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is not ill, he has a back injury.}

09 May 2018 01:07:24
Just going to say this and no doubt some will disagree but I would like us to just get rid of him this summer. He is undoubtedly talented and you could argue the lack of quality in the squad doesn't help with his form. But I'm sick to death of him literally turning up when he likes. And I'm one to buy into media stirring things but keown had a dig about him going sick after we lose games and if that is the case the other players will be pissed off about that.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 May 2018 05:42:46
PG and D, i think he is too easily left out and he finds excuses at the right time. I posted weeks ago, i think his wages and his histrionics could be a problem as far as an example is concerned. He is a massive plus to the team but at the same time a massive minus too.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2018 07:31:26
He was injured and played against AM - what’s the issue with him not playing now if injured when we have zero to play for?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2018 07:53:01
For me sy if he's injured then fair enough but it's the lack of wanting to play. All these mysterious illnesses It has been very weird.

If you have to pay someone well over the odds to stay with you then surely that tells you it's probably best to let them go.
Players are only human and you can pay them what you want to buy their signature but it doesn't automatically come with their heart attached.
Mesut will make himself available for Germany because the desire is there to play for his country but at Arsenal he plays for money simply because passion hasn't exactly been a necessary requirement in order wear the Arsenal shirt for this last 5 years.
I hope the next manager will pick on performance actually delivered in our matches 100% and not on reputation, potential, time served what the player cost or being one of our own, Arsenal through and through or any of the things that have granted players a free pass for to long.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2018 13:59:53
I think Ozil being given a new contract was a case of the club being damned if they do and damned if they don't. I can just hear the howls of despair if the club had of decided to let him leave on a free, with comments along the line of no ambition, letting our best players leave whilst keeping the rubbish etc etc ringing out. So i think the club had to ensure he stayed, especially on the back of Sanchez going, but that sadly put Ozil in a very strong position, which he/ his agent have appeared to profit from greatly. He still is a very good player, who should still have an important role for us going forward, but if Allegri came in, and said he could bring Dybala with him, i would swap Ozil out in a shot!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2018 20:03:03
62 - the maths made sense as replacing him would have cost 70m plus wages in similar ballpark of 200k per week plus risky plus agent fees

What did Ozil cost and please don’t tell me he does try - check out his KMs covered in a match. You can fudge passes but assists and kms covered?

He shouldn’t need to defend - did we buy him to defend? Did Overmars defend

We need to build the right team around him.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2018 21:48:43
A cursory glance at the stats for Ozil’s season shows a player averaging the most key passes per game of any player in the Premier League. Looking further back, all the way to the 2013/2014 season, shows him top in this regard for all but one season.

Love to the Ozil haters.

My mate went to see man city v arsrnal last year and yaya came on as a sub. He says he ran the game and was the best player on the park by a mile, turned the game in citehs favour. I would give him a years contract.

08 May 2018 21:07:59
Pay as you play if we are serious about being different going forwards
As you say brilliant player but sadly an injury plagued career with us so we shouldn't be looking to give away £4 or 5 million a year contracts away with every time a player gets back in training.
Diarby Caz Rosicky Artetta Jack Mertesacker, I wonder what the combination of the wages has been for all the months and years they've been unavailable? £100 million?

08 May 2018 21:12:42

Stoner, that's one of my middle names among many more. Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 22:32:55
I know mate but we've got to stop the soft contract image where players can semi retire early and still collect full time money.
We need to become a club that rewards those who achieve at high standard for us very hansomly but whose don't or are unable to for whatever reason need to be thanked and moved on from.
Harsh as it sounds especially with someone like Caz but the cosy old boys social club mentality just has to stop if we are to ever get back to being competitive again.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 22:55:58
Disagree! We bitch like no ones business when they don't put it in and when they do like Caz and Kos and get injured then sod 'em! None of us know how they will come back but surely both these players deserve every chance! Not their fault they're injured! Somewhere between ruthless and where we have been - just not so ruthless for me . COYG.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 22:58:53
Plus if we are prepared to give Yaya where's me cake a years contract surely the least we can do is give two of our best at least a fighting chance COYG.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2018 02:16:20
Im sure the new coach will have his opinion on weather the little magician still has the magic or wether kos is still capable. I just think the prem will be too hectic for both.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2018 06:46:09
I honestly don’t know what the new guy will do but Cazorla is class and head and shoulders, maybe bar Rosicky, above the other previously injured guys and this last one was not his fault.

I thinks it’s his quality that doesn’t make the Premier League to hectic for him steve.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2018 14:05:22
What a shame that Rosicky never really reached the heights he was obviously capable of. Its weird that some people are obviously prone to injury, with Diarby being an extreme case. I would love for Caz to be here next season, but i guess we have to be realistic that someone who has had a part of their arm grafted onto their leg are not going to be able to sustain the highest level of fitness required for the premiership. However, as a sub to come on as an Ozil replacement (for those days when you know, Ozil just isn't interested! ) he could still be a good squad player.

According to MEN Ancelotti could take arteta to the emirates if he is given the job. Interesting.

I'm starting to think it's going to be allegri. So many people seem to be saying him. Maybe because he's my preferred choice that's why I'm believing these rumours lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 17:00:54
I like the idea of Allegri too. Of the possibles he would be the one that would have the fans most united.

If Ancelloti was keen on the job and we were keen on him then i would have expected for him to have been spotted in the stands. I know they can all watch videos, but there is nothing quite like being able to see what players do off the ball as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 18:14:26
To be fair Terry I doubt Ancelotti would want to be seen watching out of respect for Arsene, he could look at bit like a predator circling it's prey and that doest seen his style.

I remember when Kos joined thinking have we got another Igor here - brushed off in challenges etc! But he knuckled down to become close to if not world class wanted by many! Surprised his back hasn't given up first carrying a succession of centre backs not good enough or too young with the dreaded potential. Get the impression he played through real pain - not crying off with flu when it suits - because he is a true team player. And if believed on a fraction of what some of our so called superstars are paid. Gutted for him missing his last World Cup . A true Arsenal team man who deserves more recognition. My favourite player over last decade ( centre back union ) ! Hope he's back fully fit COYG.

Wenger inherited some great defenders upon his arrival and signed Campbell and Koscielny.
However, he also made some dreadful defensive signings; Squilacci, Stepanovs, Cygan, Djourou, Senderos, etc.
He stopped playing defensive midfielders and physically destroyed small, technical midfield players such as Cazorla and Wilshere by playing them as DM's. In his early successful days, we had proper DM players; Vieira, Gilberto and Petit. What changed his mind to swop tall, athletic DM's for small technical ones is beyond me.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 May 2018 15:15:38
Agree RG61 - how good would Kos have been behind Petit and Viera . It would seem like a stroll in the park compared to the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan which our back five are enduring now - some of it self inflicted but mostly with no real helpCOYG.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 18:25:29
Totally agree Sussex mate Kos for me has other than Sanchez bern the onky Arsenal player to fully deliver over the past 5 years, it's outrageous how so many players have and still do earn more than Kos has and does.
But that aside if he's done now he's done as we simply can't go back to the " he's Arsenal through and through " over protective unsuccessfully loyal to a fualt ways of the past that has ultimately cost us so badly over the years.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 14:34:01
Wenger is now stating that he hopes Arsenal don't spend heavily on new players in a thinly veiled reference to Liverpool buying a defender for £70m. Well Liverpool sold Courtinho and bought Van Dijk, leaving a substantial amount in the kitty, As a result they have reached the CL final and are virtually assured of a top four place and CL football again next season. Whilst Wenger refused to spend the huge surplus at his disposal.
Gazidis urged Wenger to spend, but he refused and we are now a 6th placed team, without CL football and no trophy this season.
I am certain the incoming manager will have a sustantial budget at his disposal, which will disprove the myth that the board wouldn't permit Wenger to spend haeavily.
The top two teams spent heavily ans may well win all the domestic trophies between them. Liverpool spent and are CL finalists.
I would also like to know who sanctioned Ozil's £300,000 pw salary which is causing problems. Apparently Enrique wants to be the top earner and players negotiating deals have had their heads turned by Ozil's deal for a player that rarely plays to his full potential.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

08 May 2018 14:52:46
We haven't bought well the last few years, all the teams above or around have bought players that have improved and increased their value by huge amonunts. As we jave seen in the past, when we try and sell on players, they are often sold for less than we paid and the value of our squad is very poor compared to others. Liverpool made a huge profit on suarez, a huge profit on coutinio and spent wisely. We have very often in the last few years thanks to wenger shyed away from real quality and gone for "bargains" to our cost in more ways than one. We are paying for bad purchases now and we need a massive change in the type of players we buy. For me wenger has left this club with its hands tied and it needs some expertise to pull it round.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 15:26:05
How many £100 mil plus worth players do we have compared to all our top 6 rivals. I think we will struggle for 1 and some others have more than 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 May 2018 11:20:37
Would love allegri, 5-3-2 I think would suit us. Let's see how he can couch players like Chambers, holding, mustafi and the new greek guy before say we need to spend big on defenders. Just remember how much van dijk cost. Do you really want to spend that amount if we have players with significant potential. The formation would also suit our wing backs remember kolasinac was the best left back in Germany last year above some cracking players. If our defence is managed by allegri, like it was by Graham or on the pitch by Adams, bold, keown, Campbell and the like then our attack will flourish with his cou term attacking style and our pace. If its true and wenger made all the decisions this is the first time the board has act had to make one, let's hope they make the right one.

It's odd that wenger seemed to of passed over offering roles to many former players who wanted them, but offered merit a job after putting his crash helmet on and his feet up for a couple seasons!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Mertesacker is a likeable guy who doesn't cause problems in the dressing room or argue about tactics etc. Wenger has always been very big on keeping those kind of people around the club. I remember a certain Mr Eboue being kept for years purely because he was a good guy to have in a dressing room.}

Wenger has stated that the team doesn't need much, 2 or 3 players!
The team clearly needs: A keeper, a RB that can tackle, at least one CB, at least one DM and possibly a wide player. A total of at least 5 players. It could be argued that we need 2 CB's and 2 DM's.
In addition we could lose Wilshere as his contract expires. We could also have to sell Ramsey and Welbeck who have a year to go on their deals.
I often felt that Wenger was short of top players in his squads.
