Well played Danny - play with your heart on your sleeve and score a couple of goals then you will be a hero for the Gooners!
The fans trust you and so does the manager.
You will get your chance to play thru the middle so - grab your chance and become a hero! Can't ask for anything more.
Get ready to hear the Gooners sign your name!

I am confident Wellbeck will do well for us and won't let us down. I am not saying he is suddenly going to turn into Henry Mark 2, but we can be assured he will always offer a threat in behind will not stop running and hassling the defenders.
And to me his conversion rate is not as bad as some make out. Wenger needs to show faith in him give him a chance down the middle and keep Sanchez out wide while Giroud is out.
Agree0

A front 3 of welbeck, walcott and sanchez will offer some serious pace, that we only really got from walcott last year. should be exciting to watch :)
Agree0

Totally agree Eden. I am trying to imagine a counter attack from an Arsenal defensive corner with those 3

Isn't it funny that if Welbeck was at United, I wouldn't have given a damn that he scored twice tonight. Now he's a Gooner, I think, "Nice one Welbs!" We've needed a pacey poacher since you know who. Not saying he's a world ebayer but given the right service and a long run at CF whilst Olly is MIA til gone January then it might just turn out to be an inspired panic buy!

Not gloating but, I love England and loved watching the World Cup but, how good was it yesterday that Danny Welbeck that most Arsenal Fans have slated (not all) scored the two goals. Its the most I have watched him play, but I for one am excited for when he plays on Saturday. We have the best midfield in the premiership FACT, the service he will get, i'm confident he will give us 15-20 goal return before the season is over (across all competitions)

It shows what he has in him that's for sure, we're guaranteed a honest shift we knew that already but if he can add lots of goals too we might just have made the buy of the summer.
Let's give him both total support and every chance as it may take a little time to settle in with us.
Agree0

I think he starting to grow on a lot of supporters. Many were a bit gutted initially when he signed, but I think that was just because the superstar of Falcao was around and available(We were never going to fork out those sort of wages). On reflection however and taking into account what he brings to the table 16Million may well be one of the best deals of transfer window.

England have done ok so far IMO
BUT Jack Wilshire is fast playing himself out of the England set up, very poor
Believable0

{Ed025's Note - he was banbury, along with jones and stones..
Stones is so inexperienced so I can excuse him, Jones and Wilshire NO
Agree0

{Ed025's Note - fair point BG..
08 Sep 2014 21:59:21
Jack Wilshere is running the midfield.
Sorry, typo. Meant ruining.:-)
Agree0
Disagree0
{Ed025's Note - i have to say...i feel sorry for the guy..he looks totally devoid of any confidence and self belief, lots of guys on here are of the opinion that this is a make or break season for jack, at the moment it looks like break to me and its such a waste of his undoubted talent, but such is life i suppose..
08 Sep 2014 22:00:34
Funny how football divides opinion!
Carra, Barton, Oliver Holt, John Cross and pretty much every other football expert/player/journo said he was one of our best.
Banbury and Ed25 think he was poor.
Interesting.
Personally don't think he was brilliant, but he was by far the best of the trio.
Agree0
Disagree0
{Ed025's Note - being the best of that trio tonight is hardly anything to be proud of though LG, im not getting on his case, just fearing that his performance could see him lose his england place, and that would be a kick in the teeth he could do without mate.
08 Sep 2014 22:05:52
Wilshere was played in a different position, and with the two center backs playing so close together, it left him with very little room.
I think Hodgson got the formation wrong.
Agree0
Disagree0
{Ed025's Note - some might say you are right MgM..as that formation included jack..
08 Sep 2014 22:18:39
Couldn't agree more.
The worse thing about JW, and I'm not really just talking about tonight, is his first touch.
For a 'composed' player, his first touch is poor, than he overstretches to win it back, resulting in injury.
I think Jamie Redknapp said this week "Jacks first team place is not guaranteed at Arsenal".
I think he has a point.
Agree0
Disagree0
I wish, Wilshire to do a Ramsey and be formidable in our midfield.
Agree0
Disagree0
I though he did ok. He was asked to play in position deep in midfield that for me does not suit him.
I personally don't think he can play as holding midfield because his first natural instinct is to turn and run at the defence and so when he does loss the ball it can leave a team exposed. A good holding player gets it and gives it with a eye for long pass and does not venture too far forward.
Wilshire game is about risk when it comes off it can really open teams up and create chances for others with his sharp one twos or darting runs, and you need that sort of player in your team that will take those risks.
There will always be a risk of him losing the ball that is why he better played further forward, so when he does loss it does not leave a team so badly exposed.
Agree0
Disagree0
Didn't catch the game but didn't England win 2 0? Fail to see how Roy got the tactics wrong MGM, hope Arsene gets them as wrong all season :-)

Good one Ryan. Totally agree. I think he was told to be disciplined and stay put deep.
But he is off his best so he better go find it over the next run of games. Confidence game. Nt as good has he needs to be, but not as bad as some are making out in the media.
Agree0

09 Sep 2014 05:35:21
G62, there was no linkup play down the middle, sterling was coming from the right wing to pick the ball up from the centre backs.
If it wasn't for half of their players being very disinterested in playing, it would have been different.
Agree0

08 Sep 2014 23:29:26
Contracting yourself there though Ed. Why would the best of the trio be the one that gets dropped? And it's hardly like we've got players to come back that will displace Wilshere or Henderson.
Agree0
Disagree0
{Ed025's Note - its not a contradiction LG, for me none of that trio should be playing mate, stones is not a right back but if he does play should be playing alongside cahill as jones is woeful, and jack has been poor for a year...but thats just my opinion..
Fair play MGM mate as I say I didn't watch it but on paper 0 2 win away from home against a team who had a very good world cup does sound good.

Anyways, just stopped by to talk welbeck with y'all. I think you've done a good bit of business and many are comparing it to ours with sturridge. My question is, what's your predictions for welbeck? I have to say I think he will do well, not as well as sturridge has, but I think he will fit very nicely into your system, and you definitely needed the extra striker. Was a good buy from mr wenger.
Good luck fellas.

Hi Tj,
Funny, I just posted that I wasn't happy when we were linked with him, but very happy now.
He was played out of position at Utd, due to Jacket potato and Robin Van pussy, but we should be playing him straight down the middle, especially with the absence of Giroud.
He has pace to burn and if he plays alongside Cazorla, Ozil, Sanchez, Walcott, Wilshere et al, he should score goals.
As good as Sturro?
Let's hope so.

Heres a 'gave how does this work in football' type question again.
I imagine the transfer windows to be ridiculously long days for football agents trying to but deals to ether and sound out interested parties to get his client the best deal, but what do they do when the window shuts, assuming the player is contracted at a club?
ok they would be sounding out potential deals for the future, but that surely wouldn't fill a full-time week?
Believable0

I would imagine they then turn to non football related matters concerning clients. Sponsorships, advertising and things like that.

Big shout to the Northern Ireland boys, 2-1 away to hungary. A fantastic start! Maybe, just maybe I'll get to see them play at a major tournament in my lifetime. The last was spain 82, 3 years before I was even born.
There a lot of complaints on here by you England fans about your national team. At least you qualify each time. Spare a thought for the other home nations who find it that bit more difficult. If the Green & White Army make it to the euro's, I'll be fit to burst with pride! Even if we get spanked every game. There is real prestige in securing your place at these tournaments and that should always be remembered.

On today's poll should have there be an international mini season at the end of the domestic season, brilliant idea.
With no international breaks during the year you could easily end the season 3 weeks earlier or start it 3 weeks later allowing both club and country to get on with their business uninterrupted.
4 or 5 games from a 30 man squad over 3 weeks doesn't sound to bad and the players would get plenty of recovery time for holidays and a full preseason with their clubs.
Sounds like a very good idea to me
