Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

09 May 2013 23:02:43
I know the whole Rooney rumours are rubbish, but I wouldn't take him anyway.

I'd rather not buy uniteds players, 4 years ago I wouldve said yes, but now he's past it and if we want to be better than united, buying their scraps is not the way to do so.

Nick.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ridiculous to say Rooney is past it, he has been unhappy for a couple seasons and players get reenergised with a transfer when they are in happy, what if we and taken the same attitude with RVP at 26-27? I'd take him in a heart beat, he can destroy teams and infact he is exacttly the type of player we are missing.

1404

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney is and will always be a world class player all that's happened to him is that he has lost his drive at utd amd wants a new challenge.
I would have him at arsenal anytime because he is world class and a natural born fighter and winner which is qhat we need.
We are always saying we need to replace rvp and we need a world class striker but when they become available like rooney you all say crap about them
Ali

Agree0 Disagree0

100% agree with you Ali. I'd love to see Rooney next season although I can see him going to Real Madrid in exchange for a Ronaldo come back. Just out of curiosity, would we be able to match his wage demands anyway?

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny how all of you are defending player just because he is English. personally I think that Rooney is rubbish. honestly, he gets away with lots of the stuff during the games (swearing at referees etc) scored some nice goals but overrated sooo much. don't want to see that ugly guy in Arsenal shirt

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not defending him because he is English, he needs no defence as he is clearly one of the best players around! wathc the clubs that will go for him if he becomes available, Madrid, Bayern Barca will all consider him as will City Arsenal etc, nobody would pass up the chance to sign him i'm sure of it.
Ive never been his biggest fan but his talent is undeniable, and I would rather he was in my squad than one I was playing against.

1404

Agree0 Disagree0

He swears at refs, he's ugly. Unnamed poster I'd hate to see what you would say about Martin Keown!

Just think, if the spurs only get a draw against stoke. We'de only need to beat wigan and we can start celebrating St totteringham's day. ( it seems to be getting later and later every year. )
Bearing in mind the sh#t season stoke have had. How many times have stoke lost at home in 18 games.
A. 4
They ain't no mugs. I just don't want it to go to the last game. The thought of all the games going on at the same time, wth soccer Saturday darting between them all. I'm just going to puke my ring up I know it.
So all together now. SWING LOW! SWEET CHARIOT!

Rooney rumours are nonsense. I doubt he will even leave United this year let alone join us.

Detroit Gooner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rooney is Michael Owen.

Decline has begun. Weight and injury issues will persist now.

He's the next Torres. Expectations will shackle him wherever he goes.

I do believe his run at United is over.

Agree0 Disagree0

Again ridiculous

1404

Agree0 Disagree0

Podolski is a better footballer than Rooney.

Take the Pro-British specs off and realize Rooney always won with better players at his side. Ronaldo and now RVP

I'm sorry, at the international stage where individual brilliance matters, where has Rooney been? How many sub par tournaments does he need to have until his "cemented" place is questioned, as it ought to be.

SAF has rarely if ever been wrong about a player, and in crunch time, Rooney was not in the starting lineup

If you want to spend 20m, there are far better options

Agree0 Disagree0

Take your arsenal glasses off US as podolski is not a better footballer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Poldi has 100 plus caps for Germany. Rooney would be nowhere near

Agree0 Disagree0

Mertersacker has 100+ caps. His consistency in the last 2 years wouldn't back that fact up!

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2013 16:47:17
Saying Podolski is better than Rooney is ridiculous. Rooney has had afew seasons where he's scored 30+ goals and even when he's not been at his best he's still been better than anything we have atm upfront.

I would like a player if his ability but not him in particular. Rooney in an Arsenal shirt? Never going to happen.

Detroit Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Poldi has 20 more caps than BFG, think about that

Rooney has less caps than BFG and England is a junior team compared to Germany. Argue with me on this one.

Rooney has only ever scored more than 20 league goals twice

You continue elevating Rooney's status and the rest of us will continue not being worried when England lines him up to lead the line

I'm not even joking, either you're deluded or want to believe something that isn't there

Even SAF saw he was past it, but our fans are willing to accept their scraps

Incredible

Agree0 Disagree0

10 May 2013 18:11:47
He hasn't done well for England, but Podolski hadn't exactly set the world on fire for Germany. I think Podolski I'd a great player. But Rooney is better. More caps doesn't really prove anything. Mertesacker has more caps than Terry at younger age. But I know who I would rather have.

Rooney may be past his peak. However you could argue the reason he hasn't been playing at best is because he's playing CF/CAM rather than ST. He plays best there and bangs them in for fun.

Detroit Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Podolski was never mentioned in the same breath as messi and ronaldo podolski never scored in the champions league final

Arsenal and Chelsea have joined the scramble to sign Wayne Rooney this summer, a web site has learned.
Ed, how do you rate this rumour? Personally, I can't see it happening. {Ed027's Note - Nope don't rate any Rooney news until Utd say he's leaving

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If its from a certain football website, in the same article it says the transfer window opens in 11 days time! That should show how reliable that source is!

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^Window does open in this country when the last game has been played its Europe that is June

Agree0 Disagree0

No the window in this country don't open after the last game of the season it opens on the 1st of july
Ali

Agree0 Disagree0

Was und the impression the window opens between July 1st and August 31st.

Agree0 Disagree0

English clubs can do transfers between each other when the last competative game has been played. But we cannot do transfers to/from europe etc until 1st July.

If we win our next 2 games we are in for Robert Lewandowski. Only stumbling block being wages. Dortmund don't want to sell another star to Bayern and Man United look less than appealing atm.
The main players are chelsea, Man City and The Arsenal.
We are definately in the mix.

Chances of pulling it off are more likely than other seasons. His asking price will be 15-25 mil due to being in last year of contract. Players like cavani falcao suarez and rooney are on the market this summer aswell so bigger teams have bigger fish to fry.

Everyone say a prayer.

kirbykirbs

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He will be sold for at least 25m. RVP was sold for 24m aged 28. Lewendowski is 24 and had consistent injury free seasons at Dortmund.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty sure suarez and Rooney are not for sale! However Higuain is also available this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think if we could get lewandowski for 25 million we should jump at the chance- we would then have fantastic striking options and backup.

According to a web site where looking for two marquee forward signings. Jovetic where are in advanced talks with and Edin Dzeko and Robert Lewandowski are two other strikers high on our list. Rooney is a new player that has become available and as 'goal' reports it is a scramble between Arsenal and Chelsea to sign him.

For all those questioning his wage demand or fee.

Arsenal and Chelsea have joined the scramble to sign Wayne Rooney this summer, a web site has learned.

The striker's wage demands would appear to price Arsenal out of the equation, but Thierry Henry was paid the equivalent of £200,000-a-week in the final year of his first spell at the club and the Gunners will be loosening the purse strings this summer to attract A-list talent outside of their tight wage structure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 May 2013 17:22:53
So with Rooney unwilling to work under moyes (or so we're told)

who would be willing to take him on if A)his wages were reasonable (im talking 80k wage cut from his 200k p/w) and b)we got him for £25mill ;thanks to RVP deal and fergie still being at utd.

Personally I've always seen rooney as a poor mans ibrahimovich, strong and a good eye for goal. but doesn't suit our team at all. less he is playing DM!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Said it yourself, doesn't suit our team

this rumour about wenger being indispute with the board over a player is nonsense. The Arsenal board would not dare question wenger over a player, and Arsene is the sort of manager that if he was being undermined he would resign. Wenger picks the players and sells them, I don't think anyone on the board has a say on players that's Arsene s job. The only thing I hope is that we make some decent signings in the summer. would love Rooney, but I just can't see it some how. As For Wengers successor I hope it's Jurgen Klopp classy manager.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 May 2013 16:57:04
I know people are talking about Rooney but how about Javier Hernandez? I will prefer him to Jovetic as he will be cheaper and as good if not better.
And we can use the money saved towards a world class forward. In my opinion Higuain will be best for us, then we will have some strike force!
Opinions please!

According to news, Rooney doesn't want to work under Moyes and wants a transfer. Apparently we're interested in taking him. Eds or anyone know if there's truth in this? {Ed027's Note - Doubt it, don't take any notice of it

Hey edd's,
Any news on jesus navas? I remember some people last year on the forums saying he had some troubles with home sickness so he wouldn't leave spain, but he has recently came out saying he might have to leave sevilla, and he is the type of quality out and out winger arsenal could use.
Thanks
Podolskiing {Ed027's Note - Jesus cleared up the home sickness business years ago, he's travelled with Spain since, I still doubt he would leave the Country

Cesc adler wanyama who can play both centre half and dcm and jovetic perfect summer and we can deflate the chocking cockerals who will lose monkeyboy bale

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That would be an awesome summer so ain't going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Replace cesc with a CB and that's is realistic.

SM1996

Agree0 Disagree0

Instead of Cesc, maybe someone like Micah Richards who can play both centre half and right back.

Choking cockerel here, like us you wish for some decent players coming in, but Bale won't be leaving!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hear from a press source, man u will announce bale in june. moyle's first signing. sorry! good player but no one outside the big 3 (man u barca real)could hold him to his contract. same source told me about rvp so must be true!

Just a thought but anybody think it might be worth a question to united about rooney if he wants to leave, would rather him with experience of prem and adding to our british core, rather than jovetic?
probably won't happen but I wouldn't look past buying british or at least within from the prem for our summer signings?
midland gooner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd take Rooney I think (just)

Agree0 Disagree0

We need to realise that if UTD let a player leave it is usually because they are not good enough for them, so why would we want their cast offs?

Plus he is on 200k per week +

Silvestre was a good example, what a waste of wages!

Agree0 Disagree0

Tevez, de Rossi, piqué? Were they not good enough? Rooney only has 2 yrs left if they sit on him to long hell go for free or dirt cheap

Agree0 Disagree0

De Rossi? You mean Pogba?

No, I think he means Rossi

If we beat Wigan it will mean that Newcastle are safe, so they will have nothing to play for when we play them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lol. I don't think that's the right way to look at it. Even if they are out of the relegation zone, I don't think they will just bend over for us

Agree0 Disagree0

Depends on Newcastle result on this weekend. If Newcastle loose this weekend and we beat them on the last day and Wigan wins on the last day, Newcastle can go down because of their inferior goal difference.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What if we do not get CL next season, it being AWs last year of contract, will the board do anything this year and give a new manager the chance to get us back in the CL for 2014 season, or will it be same old story of no looking forward, what team will AW leave us with if he sees his contract out, will it be the way Bayen and Man U have gone, and put a new man in with time and money plus a whole pre season to prepare, or will it be another contrick sorry contract for AW. I think we have come to an end of an era in terms of finances regarding emirates payments (I'm aware it won't be paid off til 2031) and sponsorship. If we really do have new deals with Puma and Fly Emirates totalling £320m then it could go either way.

Wenger could rebuild for a new era of dominance with Wilshere, Ramsey, Ox etc as the core. Or The board will be happy with all this new money and won't need Wenger to run the club as a business anymore. New manager given time, investment etc. I am very much pro Wenger and hope he stays until he has to be carried out.

alex ferguson has gone, as a leeds fan I would like to point a few things out. I believe arsenal are the only club to build a team to win the prem without spending crazy money on transfers and wages. Blackburn took spending to a new level breaking the british transfer record for shearer with jack walkers millions, chelski have abromovich, man city have the arabs and no one else has won it. if ferguson could not have brought in the best players available he should have been shot unless they went to mcfc or Chelski. nasri and van persie have both left arsenal for bigger wages and probably because in the future their new clubs will attract better players than arsenal because of these clubs crazy wage structures. I believe man u contest no more than 8 even contests a year. their wages are on a different level to other teams so obviously the players are. the media love ferguson so will never point out it hasn't been a level playing field for most of his tenure. leeds fans loved coming to arsenal in the fa cup, hopefully we will be playing you in the prem soon, but please don't hold your breath.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Life is never fair mate. you can go on and on about how things are always stacked up against you. I don't like man utd, but i'll give them their due.

saying that it was inevitable the team of pensioners came to an end so will their era.

no more bias referee decisions. Manchester United will not be aware of this new era of fair play. watch how they bury moyes just cause he could not smooth talk the refs.

google an article from tv about fergie time, over a season, it averaged to 79 secs a game extra. in that same season, united won 6 games in those 79 fictional secs. and went on to lose on GD. if it was not for those fictional minutes, deduct 18 points and you will see where they actually stood.

liverpool got the second highest with 59secs extra average. and they won 1 game in all their fictional minutes.

City 50 secs, spurs 25 secs, arsenal 18 sec and chelsea had time taken away with -31 secs.

but of all the fictional minutes. united gained 18 points, liverpool 3 points, city 5 points, spurs 4, Arsenal 4.

Courtesy of opta stats for those who want to look at it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Like you state although you can't doubt Ferguson's success, with the huge income at Utd's disposal which is near double what other teams have incuding Arsenal/ Chelsea/ Liverpool/ City /Spurs
most managers would have had good success at Utd.

Look at all the record buys Utd have made look at the likes of Ferdinand, Rooney, Ronaldo big bucks on young players that other clubs could not afford the risk on at the time. Utd were also very lucky in the early years to have the likes of Beckham, Scholes, Giggs and the Nevilles to develop all into starts all at the same time. Rarely does it happen that you get soo many young players develop at such a rate at the same time.

Its the same as in Spain were Barca and Real Madrid dominate because of their financial power other teams do not really get a look in.

When the PL started when they porned themselves all over the globe backed by the PL to get to the global commercial brand power they have today. Utd were the Premier Leagues golden apple which helped make them both rich.

No doubt all clubs have enjoyed increased Tv revenue from the PL product but it is Manchester United that the PL has benefitted the most by making them into the global brand they are today.

Yes Utd were a big club before the PL but only really in the UK not globally like they are now. Utd have cornered the market in particular the far east and its hard for any other team to get a look to increase commercial revenue in these markets.

Chelsea and City can only compete by having the secuirty if rich owners that will cover the huge losses they make. Arsenal have done very well in my book to challange Utd when you compare the incomes of each club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He ain't played that much though, has he? cpt. Jenko better optin than him

Agree0 Disagree0

If he stayed fit Richards would be perfect. Jenkinson is good but not ready. Ideally he should have gone on loan when we first signed him but injuries prevented that. We would continue to learn from someone like Richards who has European and international experience. Plus Richards could cover at CB.

Maybe with SAF retiring (what a career, legend) Wenger can also think of retiring and making way for some one else. This scrapping for a CL spot each year is not fun at all.

There are plenty options out there. it will be a brave new world.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Your top 3 then. let's go! you ain't part of the tripple A's are you?

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsene should not retire just yet. The stadium cost millions to built. Even though it is not a plus for the fans, I think it was a crucial investment to make us competetive on the market from here on. Now that we have been promised good signings, Arsene Wenger will show us why they call him Le Prof. Don't get me wrong, it has been a disappointing phase. But it will prove to have been a critical phase of laying down a good foundation

Gunners for life

Agree0 Disagree0

Just my two cents, but with SAF now stating his retirement, could Mourinho now be his replacement, bringing Ronaldo along with him? Or is Moyes a dead certain to take the reigns.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing is dead-certain in football until its announced officially. but bookies, papers and pundits alike seem to all suggest the same rotations. Moyes to be next Utd manager, with Martinez taking over Everton. Mourinho is destined to return to Chelsea with either Rafa B or Ancellotti tipped to head Madrid.

I get so dissapointed when I see all these arsenal-supporter listing up all the players we "need" at the club. Saying we need to sign many class players this summer is stupid, you haven't understood our situation at all. What we need is a 2 or 3 top class players. Not 5-6 mediocre players.

Loic Remy, do we need a pacy striker when we got walcott who is established in the team?
Do we need a centre back when we have a realy good back four (guys, we can afford to bench TV5)
Do we realy need a GK when we have two great goalies competing for the nr1 spot in Fab and Sczezney?

If we have 70m, wouldn't you rather have us spend it on let us say two great players for 35m each, and keeping out best players?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said, DM and a creative spark is what we need. We should try to get top drawer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Recon we defo need a golie to replace Fabianski who is out of contract and not that good! would prefer Tim Weise to compete with Schez.

Agree0 Disagree0

"Saying we need to sign many class players this summer is stupid, you haven't understood our situation at all. What we need is a 2 or 3 top class players" What are you talkin' about? Your startin and finishin your own arguments. We need a goalie to give Sir'Szczesny sum competition. he's became too comfortable.

Agree0 Disagree0

What a silly post. You slag off people who say we "need" the sign many class player and then say we "need" to sign top class players. doesn't make sense. I agree though 2 or 3 really good players is better than 5 average ones but I think pretty much everyone here agrees with that.
