Anyone else get the feeling that we will beat Citeh again over the weekend? Starting to get very excited (non-erotic of course! We need to beat them again to show that it was no fluke in the Community Shield

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sheik city didn't turn up in the com shield. They will this weekend. A marker will be put down this weekend and we will see how our lack of defensive mid strengthening, is going to or not punished. Mood will be bright or dull after this game. Although our home form against the big teams was ok ish.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes see post below Rue!

I really fancy us to kick em whilst they're down following Stokes shock win at the Etihad.

I have a cheeky feeling Deadly Dan is going to get the winner.

Agree0 Disagree0

My heart says a 4 0 win with Danny getting all four so we can rename him DW40.

My head is locked in a constant battle between our season really getting going with a great performance and win or city are at their absolute best and hand out a Stoke city backlash.
This is our first big test so i'm really hope we pass it with flying colours and can start getting very excited about what could lay ahead this season

If only his name was Wanny Delbeck, now that would have been legendary with a 4-0 win. Lol ;-) g62.

So even after an international week, a lot of our players haven't played much if at all. Players like Cazorla didn't even get a kick for Spain and other players like Poldi and Wilshere didn't play a full game. Alexis Sanchez has a late game Weds morning (1am GMT) for Chile; whilst Ramsey is currently playing for Wales.

Players like Arteta, Gibbs and Walcott are nearing first team returns and Mertesacker & Ozil haven't gone away at all and will benefit from some more fitness training.

Finally, Danny "we all love him now he's a Gooner" Welbeck has come back off the back of two goals against Switzerland.

Bring on Man City! Let's stir things up!

Hi guys,
plenty of new strikers moving around the premiership this season. Costa has had a fantastic start at Chelsea for eg. Who do you see as having the most impact over the season. Club bias allowed of course. Feel free to add a reason for your choice.

Hi Simon,

I'm going to go for your choice, Diego Costa.

I think if he keeps firing all season, Chelsea will win the League.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yaya Sanogo or Christopher wreh, too close to call

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah Costa will do well no doubt as will fabregas fro Chelsea.

I think Wellbeck will do alright aswell mind. Will be intersting to see how Falcoa gets on after his major injury. Not convinced that Balotelli will do that much too inconsistent.

Non striker wise, Sandro will do well at QPR I think and Sigurdsson is a good re-sign for Swansea.

All our new boys will do well I think, just a sahame we did not make a real great window with a DM and CB on top

Agree0 Disagree0

Sanogo for sure, I see he has told Welbeck in has a fight on his hands lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Not my choice Dags just an example, I'm more of a mind to go for someone like CAM on the utd page said, someone like Ulloa who might score the goals to keep Leicester up. The top strikers are expected to score the goals for the big sides.
I think that's the reason Poyet was mad for Borini because he wanted a player to make a difference down that end of the table. More so winning goals than a couple of goals when a side is cruising.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me it will be Diego Costa, in him Chelsea have now replaced Drogba as in a real goal scorer.

Early signs are ominous, Mourinho now has his team and Fabregas instead of Mata which has made a huge difference to the way there are going to play.

His arrival may see them jump from 3rd to 1st.

Equally Falcao could see United make the jump back into the top four but there are so many unknowns with them in system, team gelling and confidence returning. Watched Madrid go 2 up last week inside 20mins. 70mins later they'd lost 4-2. So attacking talent isn't everything and defensively City and Chelsea are a step up from the rest of us.

Aguero with an injury free season will be awesome and they are still my favourites to retain their title.

Balotelli at a maximum 14 goals won't make an impact on his own but with Sturridge and Sterling altogether it's similar to us, with Walcott, Sanchez and Welbeck we as teams could do really well but United, Liverpool and City have the real stand out strikers.

Soz that turned into a bit of war and peace! :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

For some uinknown reason, I think Chelseas are going to crash and burn at some point. Or maybe it's just might vile and deep distaste for Chelsea speaking?

Costa will get a serious injury, mark my words!

Lots of negativity towards AW and his signings, so will add my opinion for what it's worth.

Letting TV5 go: I think we had no option he is not the player he used to be and with his contract running down we got top money for him which was invested in Chambers who has proved a comfortable CB but can also play RB as well.

Sanchez: Can play anywhere accross the front and is world class, much harder working than most in his position and can finish too.

Debuchy: Looks like the real deal, runs forever and would be just as comfortable as a winger if needed.

Welbeck: Was probably only made available at the last minute but could prove to be a top striker if given the chance, also works harder than any other striker I've seen and is very quick.

DM: I think AW's theory is that if we have the ball for most of the game a DM was not needed, we may get caught out on occassions but we have pacey attacking midfielders now who have obviously been told to win back the ball as well as attack (santi looks like a different player).

We managed to keep podolski and campbell as well as few of the other classy youngsters deserve to get a chance occasionally or they will move on.

I am happy to 'suck it and see' but I think we will see a very different arsenal this season.

But if we could have got a Carvalho/Schneiderlin I would have felt a bit more comfortable.

I'm the first to admit I wasn't happy when we were linked with Welbeck.

He has just given himself a huge confidence boost with two goals for England and United fans are now saying they're glad they got rid of their fourth choice striker! simply because they hope he doesn't turn out to be a great buy.

He has the physical attributes and has shown he can score great goals during his time with United and his tracking back, winning the ball back and ability from defensive corners isn't in question. It's consistently putting the ball in the back of the net, so the proof is doing it to the point of 25+ goals a season.

Only time will tell and Arsene actually playing him week in week out in that role.

I won't be referring to him as the new TH14 because those are some serious boots to fill.

All the others are fantastic buys and for a World Class forward Sanchez has some work ethic.

Also hoping Debuchy rubs off on a few more of our guys, in relation to taking no prisoners!

Agree0 Disagree0

DAGS we have far too many midfielders

Agree0 Disagree0

Bambam,

We don't have a 'if you go near my penalty box I will bite your head off and crap down your neck, than kick your dog, than snap the wing mirrors off your car, than nick your grannies walking stick' kind of midfield player.

Flamini is OK, Arteta is about as scary as Louie Spence holding a kitten.

Where is our 'rottweiler patrolling a scrapyard' kind of midfielder?

Agree0 Disagree0

We have made some good signings no doubt, and unlike other windows we have not had anyone major leave and knowone were not expecting to leave. Sagna and Fabianski both replaced quickly with argubly better upgrades, and added a real game winner in Sanchez and eventually acted on when Giroud was injuired with Wellbeck.

We still have not address the main issue of lack of a real decent DM, we have also left ourselves short now on defensive numbers. I don't think there were may decent defenders available in the market but Wenger did not help the situation then by allowing Jenkinson to be loaned out. That may well come back to haunt us.

we look in pretty good shape going forward especially when Walcott comes back soon, but still vunrable defensivly in midfield and are only a couple of injuires away from a back 4 with Monreal as CB, scary. We have to warp Kos and Mert in cotton wool really.

Agree0 Disagree0

Valid Dags

But my point is, .some have to go before others come in

where's your money

Agree0 Disagree0

Possession is no answer to the lack of DM, we've tried that time and time again and more often than not pay the price against the big boys.
Some of our best results last season came in games where we had less than 50% of the ball.
As I said earlier win Saturday and we will all believe but get mauled again and fingers will quite rightly be pointed at the man who still hasn't addressed the problems of last season
The proof of the pudding is in the eating and Saturday is a big taste test.
Let's hope I'm wrong to be concerned and Arsene is toast of the town come Saturday night.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bambam,

I think Wenger should be more ruthless.

I'm not saying get rid of Arteta, but he certainly needed replacing as a first choice DM.
And possibly Flamini too.

Look at Mourinho. He had no problem outing Eto'o, Ba and Torres and replacing them with Costa.

Arteta vs Schneiderlin? No contest.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 23:06:36
I don't think we even need a cdm. Some might strongly disagree, but if our full backs were more disciplined it wouldn't be such a noticeable problem. Arteta is good at his job, which is keeping play ticking over and retaining possesion. When we replace him I think Lars Bender would be perfect as he has those qualities, plus more strenght and mobility.

Notice a lot of big teams don't bother with a CDM, just a midfield lynchpin if you will. Liverpool have Gerrard, Juve have Pirlo, Bayern have Lahm/Schwiensteiger and Real have Kroos.

Hell of a fixture list upcoming Man City, Dortmund, Villa away Tottenham at home then Chelsea. Anyone else feeling very uneasy with the way we have played so far. Last year we looked amazing against Napoli can we recreate that form?
I did say Welbeck would be a good signing, once Walcott is back we will look pretty lethal. Will we still be in the hunt after these next 5 games.

Morning arsenal fans!
Man united fan here, very happy for welbeck's goals.hope he turns out good.
Very happy with the way our transfer window went, strenghtened 90% of our weakness and hope we gel in time to make a push for top 4.
Concerning arsenal, I think your team is really strong.how many teams can boast of a sanchez and ozil in the same team? Very few.
Its easy to look at your team and feel its not strong enough, if you bought a striker like cavani, falcao or benzema and welbeck as second fiddle or wide option?
Wish you the best this season.
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi :) i'm not sure you really adressed the main problems you have, you needed a world class CB and midfielder I think you will still leak goals, however the attack you now have is incredible. i'm looking forward to watching united, I think your only option is to out score your opponents, should make exciting games, unlike that dire burnly draw!
we are an injury or two away from a catastrophe in defence, with chambers our only back up to RB and CB which is terrifying!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 15:47:55
Man U could never play that way though with the draw master LVG as their manager. There's no chance they'll play to just out score the opposition. I'm honestly very happy that LVG is their manager.

Perhaps, fellow gooners will learn to trust Wenger, who had a quality transfer window, making 5 excellent signings. Yes, we need another central defender and in time a defensive midfield player, but 5 signings in one window is about the maximum in order to integrate the new players. Hopefully, in the January window we will make the two necessary signings. Looking forward to seeing Welbeck with Sanchez & Walcott either side of him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Let's see how it goes on Saturday and against chavski before we praise Arsene's genius Robbie.
5"signings is a lot for us I'm not saying it isn't but I am still worried we bought some lovely curtains and carpets but our front door is still hanging off its hinges.
Beat city and I think we can dream, lose especially if its another total meltdown against a top team and all fingers will be very firmly pointed at Arsene once more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner62, I don't really understand your point I'm afraid. Sounds a bit like youve decided that a loss against citeh will reflect upon Wenger, and his transfer window, no matter how it comes? Man City had a great result against Liverpool, and a bad one against Stoke. If we win we shouldn't get too excited about Welbeck, just as if we lose it won't necessarily be because we didn't sign Schneiderlin.

After last season I'm pretty nervous about these games against the top teams aswell, they're capable of making the most out of any weakness, and unfortunately Arsene will never be pragmatic. However what I get behind is that Wenger believes in his teams playing to a standard that could win the league, not survive game to game. I think we'll get stronger and stronger this season, even if we don't get a result this weekend. The boss is building his last great team, I honestly believe. The reasons we've been short for a decade are well discussed, but having financial power again still doesn't guarantee us our targets. I think its a good sign that we haven't compromised this window with Santos or Squillaci. Getting the better of Chelsea or Man City is going to be a chess game, I think we're going about it in a proper way. Another thrashing Saturday would be awful, but we don't really see that happening do we? I'm buzzing for the game to start!

Agree0 Disagree0

By January it could well be too late to rescue the season. An injury to Koscielny and we are in trouble and it will highlight the clubs failure to sign defensive cover. Especially after letting vermaelen leave and Wenger himself said he WOULD sign another CB if vermaelen left.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 13:12:59
G62 has expressed it perfectly. And it's not so much transfer business, but injuries, team selection and tactics that have me a bit concerned. If Arsenal were a sports car it would have a phenomenal handbrake and Lucas Electronics.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Rocky and Gunner62, why so negative? We're three games in for goodness sake

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 13:51:58
"I am still worried, we have bought some lovely curtains and carpets, but the front door is still hanging off the hinges".

G62, that is the best "football" quote I have ever heard, and alas, possibly true.

Well done you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Day
I'm not being negative. I'm being honest. I'm pleased with the players we have signed but we are weaker defensivly based on numbers. And I don't think I'm wrong that if koscielny gets injured for a lengh of time we become far weaker and incredibly vulnerable to pacey attackers.
I'm looking forward to Saturday but at the same time nervous. It was these games against the top teams we struggled in last season and shipped too many goals in. And there's no hiding from the fact we are no stronger defensivly than last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 15:51:52
Just to clarify AW signed very good but versatile players which can cover more than one position, Chambers has shown he is a very capable CB and RB too, TV5 was no better for the last year or two since his injury.

Sanchez can play anywhere across the front and is world class, Debuchy is looking a bargain and would be just as comfortable on the wing as at RB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sanchez can't play anywhere across the front, he will be no good with his back to goal against the big boys, even the foxes showed that, he is better with width and running at players .

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ned I'm not saying if we loose Saturday its all Arsene's fault however it comes about that would silly, what I am saying IF yet again We pay the price for no quality DM then that is very much Arsene's fault.
I'm delighted with all out now signings its the one we didn't buy that's concerning me greatly as I think I was by far the most needed

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner I couldn't have put it better myself and I don't think you are being negative, just realistic.

Little Gunner

wow

Jack was better than Stones and Jones.

But then so is my Gran

Don't compare Jacks performance to those two . please.

I was saying he is fast moving down the pecking order at both club and International level.

To be a top player he needs to be able to tackle. he cant.

He needs to be able to score.he can't do that either.

He has to add much to his game, or he will drift away.

EXAMPLE of the level

Mr Ramsey

Jack is MILES or should I say many classes behind the Welshman

{Ed001's Note - c'mon, how can you be bothered about someone who thinks Barton, Oliver 'my mam is in Corrie so I am now a football expert even though I know nothing and am a complete laughing stock within the game' Holt and John Cross are football experts! Embarrassing. Anyone who uses the words of tools like that to back up his words, rather than explain why he thought someone was so good, isn't worth arguing with. He obviously has no mind of his own to decide.....}

I have never been one to take heed of newspaper columnists like Oliver Holt and John Cross, they talk Turkish Delight just to fill their columns.

People like Carra and Gary Neville, as long as they are not being over biased to their respective ex-clubs, I could listen to all day.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I love Carra, don't get me wrong, he is a great lad, but he is there to follow a line laid down by the company he works for. As is every pundit on their books. I wouldn't take much notice of anything they say publicly myself.}

Oh god these journalists and pundits are actually ridiculous. They talk so much rubbish it's untrue. I mean, to a man they were tipping Manchester United to challenge for the title, where as average joes on here like us were saying they've got a rubbish team and a shocking defence and they'll struggle for top 6. Don't forget they were all saying this before they even got falcao and di Maria. The worst is Jamie redknapp. Every year he tells us how much of a better squad spurs have than us. I mean, what the hell does he base this on? Because it can't be on the players, or the success, or pretty much anything for that matter? Maybe it's hairstyles? Though with Arteta I think we win that one as well. I always thought being a former footballer meant you had some idea about football, but so many of them actually don't. There are a few guys who go on tv that actually seem to really know the game, like Gordon strachan, but the best ones seem to be the ones who do t have the looks or charisma to be on television. I think the best bet is to take what these guys say, and assume the opposite is true.
