Played 3, lost 3, scored 1, conceded 7.

They are but equally they will look at our start and think mmm not impossible by any means, plus if Bayern can win 10 2 against then we must have a chance.
I'm sure our reputation in Germany isn't too scary.

Not really Red mate we are more than 10% of the way through it already, it's flying by :-)
Will the team turn up mentally on Thursday? It's anyone's guess.
I have no real confidence in or expectations of in the current Arsenal set up that's all mate.
Will Chelsea rip us apart next Sunday? Probably.
Why do I and all the pundits and most other football fans all over the country doubt the Arsenal team so much?
Because it's what Arsenal crumble and give up each and every season, the only way for the players to make people view them differently is to show a different attitude and mentality.
4 games in and all looks very usual to me Rooster mate.

I can get pretty frustrated too my friend, but if we have a solid outing, I am still going to stop and give the lads their due. Let's hope they get on a roll, Chelsea looks flawed to me as well.

Rooster mate the last time i was genuinely excited by an Arsenal season was 2013/ 14 season, j really thought we were going to go the distance that season and fight all the way into May for the title.
The humiliation at Liverpool shocked me but didn't dampen my enthusiasm the complete surrender to Chelsea in the 7 0 defeat hurt me to watch as a fan but also it hurt and mystified me how the team could give so little in Arsene's 1000th game against his arch rival Mourinho.
I had very serious doubts but still backed them 100%, then on the following Tuesday when they simply caved in against Swansea at home with so much to prove and the title still there to be battled for? That was the beginning of the end for me with the current Arsenal set up.
I have tried to let my self get excited and let myself get carried away by the team the manager the club again but each and every time I think maybe just maybe? They remind of just how unorganized dispassionate and non committed they are capable of being.
So for me personally it will take a lot more than the very usual defeats at Liverpool and Stoke and home wins against Leicester and Bournemouth to get me excited by this current squad and manager again.

The most important thing is how the team is set out and that players are played in their strongest position. Although yesterday's opponents were weak, we were set out well and in general players played in their strongest positions. Against Chelsea I would like to see Mertesacker in the middle of the back three, with Mustafi and Koscielny either side. I would continue with Kolasinac at LWB and I wouldn't play Montreal. Ideally we need to sit deep and if he had been fit, I would have brought Coquelin in for Ramsey for his defensive qualities. As he is injured perhaps Ramsey over Elneny, although he needs to sit deep and protect the back three, which concerns me. The only other quandary is whether to recall Sanchez for Welbeck? Against Cologne my instinct is to play squad players in order to put out a really fresh team against Chelsea, but a win against Cologne would increase confidence, so a mixture of the team that played yesterday awith the likes of Walcott, Giroud, Sanchez, Mertesacker, Iwobi brought in.

Agree0 Disagree2

10 Sep 2017 11:44:15
By far the most important thing is the team shows some commitment and passion for 90 minutes in every single match between now and May regardless of formation team selection.
Now that would be a very encouraging to see.
John Terry or Per Mertesacker who was and still is the better player?
One club has moved on from thier all conquering Captain (the player not the man) the other club still continues to involve a player that has always had serious question marks over him.
One of these clubs will compete for the title the other won't
Spot the difference?

Hi Moe, a win is always good news mate but as I'm sure you can imagine I'm not getting carried away by 1 result :-)
Get a result next Sunday at Chelsea and the team will move up a good few notches in my estimations.
Arsenal should be beating Bournemouth at home but pre kick off I wouldn't have been prepared to put much money on us doing so today so it's a tiny step in the right direction towards this team winning back real credibility but there is still an awful long way to go yet to achieving that in the eyes of all those without those very special glases :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2017 22:28:42
I fully agree G62, but it's great to be back winning.
In the cold light of day and setting aside the contract problems, we still have a decent squad. Particularly today with our top two wings backs playing and in their correct positions. I would also like to see Mertesacker play against Chlesea in place of Monreal, especially as he played so well in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

I am looking forward to the visit of Cologne and hope that we play some of the squad players in order to keep the first team as fresh as possible for Sunday's match.
The following players are worth considering for the Cologne match: Ospina, Debuchy, Holding, Chambers, Mertesacker, Wilshere, Elneny, Walcott, Iwobi, Giroud, Sanchez and Nelson. On the other hand it would continue building our confidence if we played a strong team and managed to win. Thoughts?

Raver61 - surely you mean trophyless toot! A win is a win, 3 points are 3 points and a team that haven't won the league for over 56 years, when the likes of Leeds, Notts Forest and Blackburn have won it more recently is quite shameful. If I were you, in order to save ant further embarrassment I would stick to the home of losers Toots banter page. 1961, yes 1961.How does it feel to support perpetual losers?

Oh dear raver61, I suggest you do your homework - European Trophies Arsenal 2 West Ham 1.
Lets compare the trophies the toot have won in your lifetime, compared to those Arsenal have won.
Or
Total league titles
Or
Total FA Cup wins
Or Doubles

Quite why you insist on trying in vain to convince yourself that the toot are anywhere near Arsenal in terms of success is embarrassing.
Last League title - Arsenal 2004 - toot 1961, yes 1961
Last FA Cup win - ARsenal 2017 - toot 1991, yes 1991
The toot haven't ever won the PL and have only won measles League Cup this century and absolutely nothing in your lifetime.

I can imagine the sole realms you post on here is in the hope that some success will rub off on you.

Also if ramsey played in ozil positions, and if ozil was played in front of 2 very good cdm players. I just don't think all of those players playing at once helps us.

I keep hearing the battle cry of " get behind the manager" " get behind the team "
But why is it our players and our team who's attitude commitment and passion that is called into question each and every season and has been for so many seasons running now?
Other teams play poorly other teams have bad spells even bad seasons but it's only Arsenal players who's attitude is questioned on an annual basis.
Why is that acceptable and why do the fans have an obligation to back a team who may or may not turn up mentally today?
Will our players fancy today's game? It's anyone's guess whether our players will be up for it or not today and that isn't acceptable at pub team level let alone one of the biggest clubs in the country.
100% commitment and effort should be the minimum a fan expects from thier team when leaving the house to watch them and it is everywhere but Arsenal where each game it's a hope rather than an expectation the players will be committed in that days game.

I'm finding it impossible to decide what to expect from today mate.
Of course we are and should be favourites to win this one but Bournemouth will desperate not to make it 4/ 4 defeats for the season.

Same could said about us fans giving 100% G62. One of the things I belive we have always lacked unless eveything is hunky dorey. We as a club (fans) need to make the Emirates intimidating for the opposition not our mob.

I agree with that to a large degree mate, Arsenal fans have never been the most vocal especially when the team is struggling but the fans pay to attend the game so to some degree it's up to them how they behave while the players are paid to play for Arsenal and have a duty to give 100%.

I really feel this acceptance from some fans that our team might not always put in a shift and our manager might or might not do the right things in the transfer market or in his team selections but still expect everyone to get on board the happy bus has helped maintain the clubs managers and players lack of ambition.

People need to get behind the team! It's a vicious circle. Things ain't going to change for the foreseeable future so we will have to pick the slack up. And anyone that goes to the emirates can see how the anxiety from the crowd is effecting the players . I for one am not suggesting I'm happy but someone has to be the bigger and stand and fight because there doesn't look much in the team.

At last. Is this just the beginning of the very much needed clear out of past-it, has-been, never-we're, ne'er-do-wells that are sucking our club into mediocrity.

About ten transfer windows too late but at least Sick Law has had the decency to acknowledghis abject failure.

Huge match against Bournemouth today when a good win is vital. I hope Wenger puts out a sensible team with players in their correct positions. Starting with a back three of Mustafi, Mertesacker and Koscielny, with Bellerin and Kolasinac in the wing back roles. The DM's should be Xhaka and Elneny.

On another topic, I understand Dick Law is leaving and quite frankly I have never been over-impressed by his performance as a negotiator and if he is responsible for the contact situation at Arsenal then we won't miss him.

On Reiss Nelson, I'm pleased to see him doing so well and hope he starts to join the first team squad against Cologne. One worrying factor is that Wenger is already suggesting that this superb young attacking talent learns to play at wing back. Enter must stop this type of meddling that apart from a couple of positive examples hasn't been a huge success. I recall seeing Gibbs as a talented 17 years old playing in the Emirates Cup as a left attacking midfield player and he looked awesome. He then moved him to LB and he clearly lacked the defensive side of his game, as does Bellerin a converted winger. Defenders need to have a natural defensive talent, which can rarely be instilled into a player. From the brief glimpses of Nelson he looks like he should be used as an attacking midfeild player capable of going past players in the final third of the pitch.

I'm looking forward to today;s match, let's get behind Wenger and the team as a negative atmposphere at the ground is the last thing they need and will be counter productive. A win today will kick start our season.

I hope the team shock me today by actually turning up with some grit determination and passion.
I think that would go a long long way to cultivating a good atmosphere.
Or are people just expected to get behind them regardless of whether they themselves can be bothered today?

I'm pretty sure all those fans who traveled to Liverpool were behind the team 100% at the kick off and I'm also pretty sure come the final whistle it wasn't the fans attitude commitment and passion who the pundits were questioning?
Let's see the Arsenal players earn the fans backing for a change or is that expecting far too much from them?

It's not the fans that the whole of football has questioned for the past fortnight.

Am an everton fan and we do the same thing today against spurs we will play 7 defensive players at home its pathetic. home teams should be on the attack not waiting for a counter attack.
