The three candidates for manager reported in the press appear to be:

Gazidis - Arteta
Mislintat - Nagelsmann
Sanllehi - Enrique

My thoughts. Enrique wants a salary reported to be £15-17m pa. I understand this, as Ozil is the top earner on similar wages and presumably Enrique wants to be the top earner. However, I have reservations about him, as his success was at Barca, with a wonderful squad and set up. Is he the man to take over from Wenger and should we pay such a high salary?
Arteta, would be a far cheaper option, but he would be a very bold appointment with zero experience as a manager and would he have the respect of some players that played with him?
Nagelsmann - Risky, but an interesting option.
Of the three, possibly Nagelsmann would narrowly be my choice, followed by Enrique and then lastly Arteta.
Rafa Benitez has been put forward by Ray Parlour and I quite like him. He is experienced, will sort out the defensive and defensve midfield problems. He commands respect and has done wonders working with Mike Ashley, which is no mean feat.
So assuming we don't get Simeone, my first choice, Rafa has fast elevated himself above Vieira and Rodgers for me.
Wiithout a strong character as Cgairman, nor any strong characters in the board, Rafa would provide exactly that, a strong influence for the team and fans to rely on.

{Ed0333's Note - Rafa would definitely put the cat amongst the pigeons. A safe hand with a wealth of Premiership experience who will make you tough to beat and will have the allure of London to help him attract decent players. I would hope you don’t get Nagelsmann because I think he is gonna go on to be a great and I don’t want rivals to have a strength.

Jeez, that Salah chap is a tad decent.

I know the Liverpool fans maybe went a little too far in the home tie against city. But as long as it sticks to fans singing and cheering and not taking past flares then you have to admire it and can only imagine how it must feel for the Roma players. Liverpool fans know what it takes to make there home ground a hostile fearsome ground to play and must be one of the stadiums all the top European teams would like to stay clear of. let's do our best to make the Emirates a rough place to play on Thursday.

Anfield on a European night has always been a special place with an amazing atmosphere.
We in contrast have always been on the quite side especially when we go behind and the move to the Emirates has only made that worse.
The club needs to look into this by asking fans opinions plus professional advice from people who have experience of running big events around the world.

Having more northern fans like me should do the trick 😂.

Aaron has 1 more season on his contract
A would you give him a significant payrise to stay
B cash in on him now while you can
C ask him to sign a one year extention of his current deal in order to prove himself to a new manager of 38 games and earn a big pay increase by performing at a high level over a season.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 17:05:21
B for me. He has hit good form lately but for me he isn't consistent enough. Maybe the next manager can get more out of him.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 17:08:24
I would make him a priority "signing".

If fit, and his fitness record is not too bad, he provides us with a regular input of goals.

For me, he's top quality.

24 Apr 2018 17:35:28
Unless we can get say 50 mil for him, i would let him run his contract down and if all goes well, tie him to a new deal in january like Ozil. If not we haven't lost too much. He will want a kings ransom, i think.

24 Apr 2018 18:34:12
I'd like to see him extend his contract by one year on his current wage in order for him and the new manager to see what they can do for each other.
If he's not prepared to do that sell hom while we can.
I don't think we should continue to give unearned payrises as this really doesn't create a good work ethic of needing to deliver at Arsenal to propser.

Sign him up - everyone moans when we don’t so get the job done as we don’t have money to burn replacing him.

24 Apr 2018 19:52:35
Actually having more of a think I'm not sure he's one I'd want to see leave. There's quite a few others in that position I'd rather we cash in on.

24 Apr 2018 20:07:06
Aaron and Danny have 1 year left 16 mate so we have to do increase their wages sell or let them go on a free next summer.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 21:00:05
I'd say sell off anyone who doesn't want to sign a contract.

Is zidane going to be at real next year? If not, would he fit in with us? Not sure if he would come though if asked.

24 Apr 2018 15:23:26
My guess is he would take a break if Real let him go.

I'm not sure we're in as bad of state as people think. If we had some one that could properly coach our defensive side, something wenger neglected since 2004, I think we would be OK. Imagine if George Graham had this bunch what he would do with them.

We have needed a dm since Gilberto left, this is a priority. Add a CB and a rb and I think we're good to go

Our new scouts could easily find the right solution and it doesn't have to cost 100s of millions.

Exactly Malaga.

24 Apr 2018 15:39:43
I doubt George and Mustafi would last long together as Mustafi likes to play the blame game rather than take responsibility for his own mistakes, I think he would be one the first out the door under George and poor old Kos is well! Just got old unfortunately which leaves us with 0 CBs capable of competive.
A DM absolutely a and a CMF partner I think is needed, Xhaka ain't premier league standard Jack ain't reliable one way or another and Aaron is great going forward but not so keen on working back.
I disagree on this one Mark mate, there ain't no manager in the world who could get us above Utd Spurs Liverpool City and Chelsea next season with the players we have unless 2 of those 5 have an extremely bad summer players or manger wise.
Going forward we are OK but defensively we have next to nothing already in place.

24 Apr 2018 16:49:49
Xhaka is prem standard just not top 10 quality.

24 Apr 2018 18:01:26
:-) either way Sanogo he isn't what we need mate.

If we are in the champs league the new manager will get money to spend, if we are not then he will have his hans tied. that's the crux of it.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 14:23:18
I disagree Steve . I think the new manager will be happy with his budget.

24 Apr 2018 14:46:00
Hans Tied. is he one of those trendy young German managers we keep getting linked with?

Ha ha EG i think i had my hans tied when i wrote it.

24 Apr 2018 15:44:32
I don't agree mate, I think New players will arrive this summer regardless of champions league and they will be the right sort of players whether they cost 50 million or 10 million they will for the first time in years be what need a posed the what we fancy.
Things will be different from now on if not Arsene would still be here next season.

24 Apr 2018 17:09:55
Epping 😂😂.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 17:29:25
Gunner Malaga, obviously players will arrive this summer, the amount of money and quality in the market will depend what European comp we are in. Revenue in the EL is way way down on the CL and will impact the summer budget greatly.

24 Apr 2018 18:12:43
20 to 25 million for champions league qualification and last 16 partisapation isn't going to be the best all and end all Steve mate.
Sell Mustafi or Xhaka or both Iwobi and Chambers there's your champions league money should we not make it via the europa league if that is even necessary.

24 Apr 2018 18:36:27
How does this stack up to the league position. money can’t buy you love but it help buying trophies.

Money spent on present playing squad (2017)

Manchester City £775M

Manchester United £712M

Chelsea £585M

Liverpool £397M

Arsenal £377M

Spurs £328M.

United Arsenal Chelsea have under achieved while City Liverpool Spurs have a very good return on investment in my opinion SY mate.
The one that matters to us Arsenal are miles behind Liverpool and Spurs on points with a similar money invested which has always been my argument when money is discussed.
Our closest rivals Burnley I would at a puee guess have spent under 50 million.

Not net spend Sy.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 21:21:53

Spurs over achieving by far but still no trophy in a decade

Team: Average weekly pay

Man United: £100,792
Man City: £100,691
Chelsea: £85,600
Arsenal: £77,639
Liverpool: £70,190
Tottenham: £60,667
West Ham: £56,478.

24 Apr 2018 21:59:21
We only spend just over 4mil a year on wages!, what are those figures, i know for a fact our wage bill is over 200 mil a year. Your figures sy are not right. don't get into all that anyway, we don't understand finance of football clubs. let's hope we get the right guy in and spends the right money on the right players and van actually improve them. We may see a difference then. Tell klopp about finance and he isn't interested, that's the sort of manager we want. I know you didnt/ don't rate him but that's what we needed.

 0 1

25 Apr 2018 01:08:47
Steve r it’s average weekly pay for the player not the club.

Although I can't see it happening, Simeone keeps being mentioned in relation to Aresne's replacement. If by some chance the rumours are true, and he is being considered, that puts him in quite a pickle Thursday.

Naturally Simeone is going to want to win and take Atleti to the final, but in doing so he could be eliminating his next team from next years Champions League! i'm not for one minute suggesting he should roll over just in case he takes the Arsenal job, but wouldn't it be ironic if he refused the job because the club did not have Champions League football next year, when it may be his current team that makes that happen.

24 Apr 2018 12:45:59
Giving that ed002 has stated clearly that he will not be managing arsenal next year, i think we can safely not ponder such things.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 13:18:09
Wasn't Pep in a similar situation at Bayern in his final season against City?
I don't think any manager would make a decision based on where he found a team but more on where he felt he could take them.
If Simeone is a no go he's a no go then we simply look for our best possible option who is viable.
We won't be winning or even competing for any premier league or champions league titles next season regardless of where we finish this one or who replaces Arsene, that's hopefully a little further down the line.

24 Apr 2018 10:57:54
So the new manager has a 50m budget - lucky guy!

We will attract huge talent with that.

That's 15m each for 2CDs and a CDM!

Happy days.

Why does everyone want to believe this story?

The Telegraph got the Story from the little green men from Mars who landed in Tesco in Scunthorpe car park to top up their electric key, these mini Martians have proved to one of the most reliable sources over the last 5 decades for the Telegraph, well as long as they ain't already found the potatoe section that is, you get no sense out of them once they've seen a spud or good old spud masher.

 1 0

24 Apr 2018 11:30:04
There is no confirmation that £50m is the amount available, It is highly unlike Arsenal to state what is available, In any case, presumably it is £50m, plus any sales:

Ospina, Chambers, Jenkinson, Perez, Akpom, Iwbobi, Campbell, etc.
Possibly Ramsey or/ and Welbeck, if they refuse to sign contract extensions.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 11:44:22
With sales = more players to replace.

Our cash reserves don’t increase hugely year on year plus the net cash available isn’t huge

New deals will help but we aren’t going to spend 400m or 200m every year like City and Utd so we need a manager to over achieve to keep us happy then more money to compete for EPL.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 12:06:39
We desperately need to 2 new CBs and 2 new Cmf players, we could do with upgrades elsewhere too but if we went into next season with the best of what we have plus 4 decent (not necessarily world class) players in those positions and a coach to organise the team more defensively I think we will see improvement.
So even if the Telegraph got to Martians before the Martians got to the spuds 50 million plus tata to some underwhelming players maybe another 50 million if we're lucky gives us 25 million a man to spend on the 4 players to improve us.
Oh and if we got Johnny Evans for 3 million that would give us 32 million each on the other 3 players:-)
It's all good lads even if the ha ha ha spud masher men did really land yesterday in Scunthorpe.

If we are not in the champs league, we are not spending much, that is the price for falling out o the top four. It doesn't need a rocket scientist to tell you we are not in the big league because we have dropped down. This mess we are in is because of our poor league form, that should have been sorted a long while ago but there was no accountability i'm afraid. It all went on too long. But the report its self is possibly correct to a degree and i think will affect who we appoint. It has been coming.

24 Apr 2018 13:57:11
Humbug Steven, we will get a good manager and we will invest in players and we will be back in the champions league in 3 seasons or less (eurpa winning dependent) .
I will happily bet you 5 shillings and sixpence that we will get 80 plus points in a single season ( not all added together :-) within the next 3 seasons.

24 Apr 2018 14:42:16
Agree with you both - Steve and 62.

We are where we are because of league form but 4 key defensive signings plus more discipline will change our fortunes.

Plus the new deals

We need a change at boardroom level also.

24 Apr 2018 15:05:25
You deciding against MSM this time G62😘.

 0 0

24 Apr 2018 15:51:23
Did I do that before Sanogo :-) oops:-)
I'm sure whoever comes in will have his own views already formed about each player and those he's already decided aren't upto to the task will either have to convince him otherwise or find new clubs.
We need a tough no nonsense manager above anything else in my opinion.

Gutted Carlo could take Italian NT.
Hope I don't asking for a random name, but Sarri has been considered as an option for Arsenal?
