Hi guys, I just posting this as a question really, I've heard from various sources, be it media, friends, people etc about the players we're having a crack at signing, of course there's been M'villa and Vertonghen mentioned and other less prominent ones like Hoilett, suarez and Biglia, but there's three that I've had mentioned to me that were a little shock to me, but after I thought about it, they do fit into our game, I just can't for love nor money see 2 of them being wenger buys though:

One is Renato Augusto, 23 year old Bayer Leverkusen play maker, very talented passer and has a good shot on him, he's not slow but won't be beating quicker players with pace, but with guile. They'd probably want in excess of £15m for him.

The second is Josep ilicic, he plays for Palermo and is....22? 23? He's a big lad, I think he's 6"2, 6"3, he's of Slovenian descent, he can play as a attacking mid or a second striker, we've actually been linked before but he's had a good season and Palermo apparently won't even entertain less than 22m for him, especially as Chelski are now keen on him.

The final one is the second Brazilian on the list and the most likely of these three I'd imagine, Shaktar Donetsk's Douglas Costa.
The kid is 20-22 and we've been linked when he was at gremio, then when he moved to Shaktar we apparently offered cash plus denilson as they have a very strong Brazilian contingent, but they want cash only although they have said they'd sell for the right price (believed to be about £16m) he's incredibly talented, he can shoot, pass, is incredibly fast and can play on the left but is best as an attacking mid. I'd take him like a shot.

So that's the recent ramblings I have to offer you guys, thoughts and things you've heard, would be appreciated

I'm pretty sure we have been linked with Renato Augusto in the past. (Ed?)

Hi Ed
Can you tell me if there's any truth that David Villa is available for a cut price value of 15-20m {Ed002's Note - He will be available but is that a good deal for a 30 year old with a broken leg still healing? It would be significant wages for a player who has spent his career not wanting to leave Spain. To me a bid would seem risky.}

Believable7 Unbelievable13

Don't think we should go for him, Believe Spurs might, just fishing that's all.
Cheers for your reply.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everybody no,s a/w policy on over 30 yr old players. it wont happen for the following reasons he has been out injured for most of the season and he would have to adapt to the epl.then there are his wages.this guy has h/r maquee signing all over it on his last legs

Ed do you think ars will sign mvilla after the interview from wenger.plz tell me your thoughts and opinions on mvilla and vertongen transfers {Ed002's Note - I would have expected both to be headed for Arsenal until the past few days - but would rule neither out. M'Vila is there for the taking and has been advised to make the move by Desailly.}

Wenger on M'Villa:

"It is not true. There is not any interest at the moment," said Wenger.

"We have not been in touch with anybody, we have not made any offer to anybody and we are nowhere near to buying anybody at the moment.

Never what we want to hear.

R.O.B

Believable6 Unbelievable15

Isn't that similar to what he said about podolski?

Agree0 Disagree0

Isnt that what he always says when hes up to something ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Do not believe a word of it mate. This is what Wenger does. He gets his sneak on and he comes out with ridiculous statements like this as though the whole world is retarded except him. We placed a 25m big last summer according to Wenger himself so why we'd suddenly not be interested I have no idea.

Either way, this is what he does. Pay no attention.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh yeah meant to say if anything it's part of the plan to keep other teams away. Because other teams love to come along and ruin our deals. They know if we land our targets then we are a force to be reckoned with, and they realise we initially only go for TOP targets, so if we want M'Vila, everyone else wants M'Vila....

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes he said that, but afterwards he apparently had a wry smile on his face. Said/did the same thing around the time the Podolski signing was rumoured. It's a classic Wenger move.

Ty

Agree0 Disagree0

Plenty of other clubs want him, regardless of us wanting him or not. The only question is, will we snooze and lose, or actually buy him.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only managers that come and openly say they are chasing certain players are those that are extremely confident that they can outbid ,overpay or offer cl football so until a player is signed you dont show your hand. {Ed025's Note - i agree mate..

Eds what is the deal with Martin Caceres? Is he staying at Juventus or going back Sevilla? I'd love to see him or Mauricio Isla come to Arsenal instead of Vertonghen.

Sydney Gooner {Ed002's Note - I understand Caceres wants to stay in Turin. Isla is not clear either. Although there has been interest from Liverpool, Chelsea, Roma, Napoli and PSG the player has suffered a serious injury so he may need to prove his fitness. I suspect Inter may strike a deal including a couple of youngsters going on loan or part ownership to Udinese.}

Any idea what their potential value might be?

Hey gooners.

Just wanted to comment on transfers

Am very happy with the Podolski signing, as well as the pending deal for Yann M'Vila. 2 world class players in my opinion. I still think we will go for another striker. Don't have a clue who that will be though. Would like Huntelaar or M Suarez. Also would like an attacking mid to be signed. I think Hoilett could play that role and he's free which is a bargain. I hope we sign Vertonghen, but it looks bleak. If we don't, I think we should think about Sakho as he is a decent defender. I think Alder is a possibility of coming on a free too as cover for Szcezney. Both Fabianski and Mannone will be sold and Martinez will move up to 3rd keeper

In all I think 5 players will be signed and alot of players will either be sold or loaned

One thing I'd like to say is that I'm very proud of the way the boys have performed this season, coming back from the horrible position we were at and back to the champions league places. We've had the glorious highs of smashing 5 past Chelsea and Spurs, stealing a last gasp winner at Anfield, beating Milan with alot of Pride at home, Arteta's beauty against Man City, The return of King Thierry and his goal against Leeds on his 2nd Debut and the 125th Anniversary game with the Van Persie wonder volley against Everton. Great memories and I for one dont miss Fabregas or Nasri. I will definately be renewing my season ticket for 2012/2013

Hoilet For The Win!

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post! This season really did have it all (except a trophy). I just hope we get a win against West Brom on Sunday afternoon (midnight Monday in Sydney) and see Chelski get murdered in the CL final. We clinch third I hope we can clinch some great signings in the transfer window that will see us winning things next season.

Sydney Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

If we manage to finish 3rd it will have been an exciting season. With the signing of Podolski & other signings assuming we qualify for the CL, as well as the return of Wilshere & Abu Diaby, next season looks an exciting prospect.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Sydney: You'd like Chelsea to lose? I preferably would love to seal 3rd place on Sunday. Spurs 4th and then watch the drama unfold with the possibility of Chelsea taking that final CL place away from them.

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly cannot see Vertonghen going to spurs. he is close friends with vermaelen so why on earth would he choose to go to spurs, his greatest rival

Believable14 Unbelievable8

Don't think that'll stop him TBH

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramsey & Bale were/are close friends too when their transfers were happening. We had interest in Bale as well but he chose Sp*uds.

Agree0 Disagree0

And Bale was a huge Arsenal fan as well

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys these are the world's most professional players. They don't decide their futures based on childish things like someone they know playing for a rival team. They do what they think is best for their career. Vert wouldn't choose us over another club because of Vermaelen.

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^^ someone with common sense

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he would choose us because he knows we are the better team in london and we showed him that against ac milain and spuds 5-3. The fact that they are friends is just a bonus! for us hopefully

If M'Vila was to sign when would you expect or best guess this move would be announced.

I personally don't think it would be announced until July when the transfer market opens. {Ed002's Note - He cannot sign before July 1.}

Lots of speculation again this summer and will continue right up to the end of August (love 31st August with all the last minute deals and speculations)

On the RVP we're vulnerable when it comes to him.
1. Out of the top strikers in the world how many would be available for the amount of money it would cost to buy him, maybe because of his age and history of injuries and the 1 year left on his contract.

Sure if he wasn't an Arsenal player Wenger would be sniffing around this sort of situation.

Just can't believe we keep letting are players run their contracts down to 1 year before we want to start negotiating a new one.

Believable12 Unbelievable1

10 May 2012 10:32:17
in case you guys didnt know its vertonhen or m'vila not both if yann is signed then song will be utillity playing many positions over the season if its vertonghen he will be utillity

Believable5 Unbelievable12

Absolute baloney Vertonghen is a CB cum FB cum DMF. M'Vila is only a DMF.

Two completely different players, playing dramatically different positions. You figure it's one or the other, how exactly?

Agree0 Disagree0

Re read what i posted b4 u post something else that doesnt make sence

Agree0 Disagree0

The poster is correct. If its Mvilla then song can also cover CB which could allow TV5 to cover LB.
If it Vert then he offers cover for all three positions also.
I hae been told (I already posted this) that it is Vert whos coming in as LB with Santos moving further up to cover the departing Yossi.
There will also bo one more creative midfielder but I have no odea who.

Great point made by Le Grove on walcott

"There is also no movement on the Theo Walcott situation. To be honest, if we replaced him with Hoilett we'd probably be upgrading anyway. Theo has managed 9 goals and 11 assists playing at a team in 3rd place with the hottest striker on the planet. Hoilett, in 10 less games for one of the worst sides in the league has managed 6 assists and 7 goals. If we land him on a free and sell Theo for £18million, we'd be doing a grand bit of player switchery."

Believable20 Unbelievable13

Not a great point at all as Walcott is one of our main attacking threats. I would sign Hoilett but to supplment him not replace him. I believe Walcott will have a great season next year and could shine at the Euros.

Agree0 Disagree0

As with all these situations who is to say Hoilett could handle playing at a big club. would you sign Holt just because he has good figures at Norwich.
i would keep Theo (underrated at AFC) and sign Hoilett as Theos replacment

Agree0 Disagree0

"Great point made by Le Grove". Paradox :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to say I agree with Le Grove on this one! Theo is incredibly wasteful. People look at his stats and say 'but he's better' when they barely paint the whole picture. If we had a better football player as winger you could expect to see a massive improvement on those stats. The way we play allows Theo so much time on the ball yet he achieves so little with. Hoilett has impressed in almost every game he's played, I feel if it was him or another winger in Theo's place, one who could hold the ball, beat players and score from more than 1 angle including from range like Hoilett loves to then we'd see way better stats. I wish we'd sell Theo and get a winger we can depend on.

Agree0 Disagree0

But theo is wenger's love child. he wouldnt part with him? surely not!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sigh, theo's stats make him one of the most productive wingers in the country.

Hey Eds, im a massive fan of this website and have been following it for quite some time and love hearing about all the latest rumours etc. Unfortunately living in Australia its hard to get any source of information about clubs transfer targets, deals, rumours and interest as we arent a huge football nation.

Any way seeing as its my first time posting i have a couple of questions.

First of is Arsene chasing another possible CB to cover Vermaelen and Koscielny in times of injury now that we seem to have lost the bidding war to sign Vertonghen. Or will he put his faith back in Djourou and Mertersaker and promote Miquel?

Secondly, seeing as we seem to be behind the 8 ball in securing a transfer for Giroud as Bayern are leading the chase atm, is Wenger eyeing any other strikers if Bayern sign him?

Im glad we captured Podolski, but with the prospect of Chamakh, and Park leaving with RVP still yet to sign a contract extension and Sundays clash against West Vom being a vital game whether he does or doesnt, we are still needing at least another striker. But the only one is have heard that Arsenal are also eying other than Giroud is Suarez. Do we have any links to other strikers?

My last question is seeing as Sagna is injured and will be out for quite some time i feel that Wenger needs to address this position quickly. Jenkinson can positioned there but he is still way to young and would love to see someone come in to challenge him. Possibly Clyne (although pursued by Man Utd) or maybe Arsene can take another look at Azpillicueta? The young spaniard who he was eyeing last transfer window.

I hope we see some new faces come July. Most importantly the secured signing of M'Vila and that Wenger can dicard some dead wood.

Sorry for rambling up any help Eds and other posters would be grateful

Corbs Gooner {Ed002's Note - By looking at Vertonghen it seems a versatile defender is being looked at - I don't know if there is a Plan B. As for a striker, I expect taht there is interest in Dempsey. Marseille's right back Cesar Azpilicueta is being tracked by Chelsea, Roma, Valencia and Barcelona. Initial interest from Manchester United has waned.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently rvp has already said he doesnt think Juve would be a step up from arsenal. I think real or barca r our only worries.

I agree I'm certainly not trying to start a rumour i'm only posting what I read I did aslo read somewhere today that Barcelona is the only club he'd consider.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh, there's been a lot of talk about Juve wanting RVP. I rate Juve at the same level as Norwich in terms of quality. Serie A is a flailing league and it'd be career suicide for RVP. Barca, Real, Utd or City are biggest threats

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha plus hazard and ronaldo? Dortmund may lose Kagawa to man u, no way will they let gotze go when he just signed an extension.

Agree0 Disagree0

He just signed a new new contract till 2016 and Dortmund are tearing up the Budesliga and I wouldn't be surprised to see them tear up the Champions League next year after gaining the experience of this year. He has no reason to leave Dortmund.

Agree0 Disagree0

Finally someone from EPL supporting another team KEEPING a player. Gotze played very little in second half of season (Dortmund) so strange all the renewed 'selling' to all these clubs... Worried about euros and the price going up maybe. Hard to understand why anyone would leave Dortmund now. Frustrating to like the for sale team. BVB!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hazard is not moving next season. We talked to his representatives in january and we were told then that he wont move.. So forget gotze. All that s**t by journos should not be taken seriously.

I know it is annoying when we call a player coming back from injury 'a new signing'

But lets be honest, Wilshere back is like signing one of the top 5 players around, so you truly can, on this occasion say we have signed Wilshere and Podolski with maybe one more (M'vila) to come

Man that is AWESOME, truly AWESOME

Believable7 Unbelievable1

He was awesome but you never know after being out for so long and could now just be dogged with injuries for years to come.

I hope Wenger is looking for cover.

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason he is so good is his determination and maturity and that wont go away with an injury. JW best midfielder in the league

Just having a look at expiring contracts in all top leagues and i can see quality players at the end of there contract that could be usefull to us.

England:
Berbatov-plays at backup at utd but still is a goal scorer but can be lazy
Hoilett= young cheap as payin compo but in the right mould
Gordon-as a back-up keeper
Brad guzan-as a back-up keeper
Spain:
Maduro- can play various postions along the back four and def mid
Khouma Babacar- young striker with alot of potential
Germany:
Adler- would give shez a massive push all the way
Barnetta- good attacking minded player coming into his prime

8 gd players costing next to nothing as hoilett would come with a price, that can improve the squad and we can make a step in the right direction. im not saying sign all of them but possibly up to 3 of them. i would personally take: hoilett, adler and maduro

Believable8 Unbelievable4

Fergie has already said that Man U would take out the 1 year option in Berbatovs contract so he isnt on a free. Gordan has been injured on and off for the last 3 years - not a reliable back up as he is never available. Guzan is rubbish... The others are fair shouts!
