To all you guys saying that Suarez should come to Arsenal: Don't expect an immediate impact. I live in Belgium and he is a talent, but he is inconsistent and often doesn't seem able to put a mark on the game.

Don't get me wrong, I think he is one of the best players playing in Belgium right now, but I'm worried that he isn't ready to play at a top team yet. He could be another Park or Chamakh and let's face it do we really want another one of those?

When you look at the Players playing in Belgium; a lot of them are players brought in from top teams, where they failed to impress;
Some examples:
Vadis failed at hamburg
Vazquez failed at Barcelona
Van damme failed at Wolves
Boussoufa failed at Ajax
Jovanovic failed at Liverpool
Mbokani failed at Monaco and Wolfsburg
Opare failed at Real Madrid
...

I think Belgium has got some great talents, but they aren't ready to fill the boots of RVP, if he got injured.

I value someone like Giroud, De Jong or Van Wolfswinkel more.

Believable27 Unbelievable3

I was chatting to a dutch m8 and he told me wolfswinkel will be the next best thing. Getting him now at a decent price before the chance of him booming in europe, would be a good idea. Check him out on youtube if youve not seen him before. {Ed002's Note - He was available for and sold less than a year ago at a quarter of the price they will take now.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Both can wolfswinkel and de Jong would cost a fortune right now Mate!

D

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez Wouldnt Be Expected To Play Every Game And He Cant Be Worst Than Park

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku isnt getting a touch at Chelsea and their strikers are terrible. He was meant to be the next big thing. Still might be good but no one can expect an immediate impact from a league like belguim. No offense to any Belgians.
RD

Thanx! thats what i wanted to hear, i was always cautious about suarez and this is really what i wanted to hear.

Im really hoping we score a couple of early goals today and put the wolves game to bed! Van persie to score in this one and £10 on it being a penalty.

On a side-note: The assistant manager position is a very interesting one. Could someone here who follows the managerial/coaching side of football perhaps give a list of some candidates other than keown/bould/adams and other ex arsenal players.

thanks

Believable12 Unbelievable1

Adams ruled himself out, it will be bould or if not him almost certainly someone from within.... wenger doesnt want anyone with ideas in the position, hence pat rice being there his whole tenure.

Agree0 Disagree0

Too good man:)

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice return on your bet mate?!?

D

FORTUNE TELLER! And what a penalty!

is it just me or is any 1 else getting pumped up about the summer transfer window!
i have had this feeling for a long time that wenger is about to sign some real quality in the summer,i think the boss got really hurt last summer and this year he is determined it is not going to happen again..

i have seen the posts on here about r.v.p getting involved with the players we should sign and i have a huge feeling the players that will be signed will be,
poldolski
vertonghen
m'vila
hazard,i know every 1 is going to say no way but i think wenger will put in a serious bid and i see him as are cam..
i honestly believe we will spend some serious money in the summer!
would these 4 make rvp sign a new contract?
mother goose

Believable17 Unbelievable2

Well though i am excited but it is a Euro summer so some teams might say they will only negotiate after the Euro (in case the player puts in a stunner and his price doubles).

Agree0 Disagree0

Me too mate im really pumped :D, but ive been like this many times before and we know how thats turned out...

Greg

Agree0 Disagree0

I try not to get too excited.. Just get hugely disappointed. So if you expect nothing any something brilliant happens its doubly great. We signed a great player and I get a surprise. Sorry to put a downer on your post btw.
Its been good reading your posts other the last week or so mother goose there always so positive!
RD

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon podolski will be the biggest name of the summer. Wenger doesnt spend money if he can avoid it and as happy as i am about our new found form. It will prove to be his excuse for not spending big this year again. But Hey! In Wenger we trust!

Arsenal Forever

Just want a view fron Ed, what is the most we are going to pAy for a player and in total, how much will we spend? {Ed002's Note - Sorry - I really don't know.}

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Man if eds knew that they would be rich as rich

Agree0 Disagree0

Have a look at the history of Arsenal's transfer dealings under Arsene Wenger to have an Idea of how much we will spend, and where he is likely to look.

One thing's for sure, Arsene Wenger very very rarely buys players who play champions league football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate what a stupid question. Obviously it depends on who the player is and every player has a different value.
89'gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

And if you can answer that can you also tell me the lottery numbers for this friday ed

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal offered last summer 40 mill around 35 mill pounds for Gotze. Will Wenger do a similar one? I doubt it. Will be same old in summer again.

Agree0 Disagree0

He might have offered something, but it was never going to be accepted which was probably more a token gesture to the fans, than a sign of intent for our club.

Just to clear things up (according to transfermarkt.de) Dzagoevs contract doesn't run out in the summer like people think, it runs out in december so he would have to be a january signing!

Tommy P {Ed002's Note - All contracts rum until the end of the season - so if a player is in a country where the league runs to December - that is when contracts expire.}

Believable4 Unbelievable1

But doesn't russia's league run till about June now (courtesy of their bumper year to align with ALL european teams) {Ed002's Note - But it is not possible to retrospectively negotiate contracts of all of the players.}

Just a pice of info i'd like to share. I'm sure some here follow Gingers4Limpar on twitter and you know this already (btw Gingers4Limpar isn't one of those accounts that claim to be in the know, they just report on Arsenal). Well The Times had an interview with RVP and he says:
-he likes the idea of staying, he is settled

-impressed with Arsenal's recent form

-apparently there are fewer clubs with the financial power to buy RVP than he thought, so the suitor list is not one he likes

-he is very impressed with the behind the scenes work, and squad strengthening that has been going on recently.

Apparently Robin got to help choose an attacking player who will be brought in (someone who plays the CAM position). No clue who it may be, probably someone Dutch or from the Eredivisie?

Row Z

-

Believable12 Unbelievable6

And btw the article is on The Times website but it is behind a payblock, so either go out and buy the paper, or subscribe to the website.

Row Z

Agree0 Disagree0

Where did you get the last bit from? Great if true.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he got to choose a player and it was a Dutch one don't be surprised if its Ibrahim affely (spelling sorry) when he was leaving psv apparently robin was really bugging him up!

S'a big if though
D

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe Rodney Sneijder

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you referring to Matt Hughes' article in the Times this morning? If so, that is not what it says.....

Chris

Agree0 Disagree0

Van persie would want players like sneijder or robben to join us, top quality EXPENSIVE players. Its not gonna happen is it..so why would he be asked to choose someone.

Agree0 Disagree0

So instead of saying 'That is not what it says..." Chris. How about actually saying what it DOES say?

=M.A.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I am. Everything but the last piece of info is from that article (the last piece on him choosing player is from somewhere else) but I just highlighted the main points from Hughes' article.

Agree0 Disagree0

=M.A. - Matt Hughes says that a Man City move is looking unlikely and RVP may consider seeing out the last year of his contract or may sign an extension but he has not made his mind up and will not do so until the end of the season. So looking more positive for Arsenal, but we will have to wait and see, There is absolutely nothing about being impressed by behind the scenes work or choosing players - I have no idea where that has come from...!

Chris

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow... I sounded harsh there, Chris! I apologise. It just sort of irks me sometimes when people dismiss something but don't actually correct the person lol

Fair play for you clearing that up, thank you!

=Miss Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris have you read anything I've posted. The choosing player is from somewhere else, the fact that he is impressed with squad strengthening is within the article. I suppose you just read the one on GMF. Shame on you

hatim ben arfa is on the mind of wenger and he loves ben arfas style of play and hes french

Believable13 Unbelievable7

Well publicised that diaby and Ben arfa have a bit of a feud. Don't think Wenger would mix the two and is showing faith in diaby. I hope I'm wrong because Ben arfa has been amazing but may also want to pay Newcastle back for sticking with him during his broken leg.

In Arsene I Trust.

Agree0 Disagree0

Or you saw his goal the other day and thought that we need him so you make that up. How does anyone know what is on Wengers mind apart from him.
89'gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Newcastle sell? Besides, I think that those players should be left alone, and see what special things come of it. As mouth watering as a front four of Ryo RVP Ben Arfa and Ox in the hole is mouthwatering, Cisse, Ba, and Arfa is already assembled.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with above poster- I did see why newcastle would want sell...so he would cost a fortune or at least paying over the odds- that's something not associated with wenger! He may admire Afra and he is talented, but signing him is another matter.

Agree0 Disagree0

DRB/HBA have been speaking for 2yrs now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you read minds? smh

Agree0 Disagree0

I could be wrong but im pretty sure ben arfa and diaby are on god terms now...

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger admires messi and ronaldo and a host of other top players - because wenger is a football fan. It doesnt mean he will attempt to sign them. Ben Arfa will be at newcastle for atleast 2 more years in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Heres the "fight" guys!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqof0zIDMWs

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsene recently said in a pre-match interview, he thinks Ben Arfa is one of the most technically gifted players France has ever produced. It's unlike Arsene to compliment a single player and not a whole team unless he has some interest in them. Also, even if Newcastle don't want to sell, Mike Ashley has said he will have to let some of his star players leave in the summer if big bids come in. So, I think a bid is almost certain and as long as Ben Arfa wants to move, which I think he will do, why would'nt he? Then a move should be on, plus he can't be on the best wages, I think he's signed one contract extention since he's been there. The Diaby - Ben Arfa fight was when they where kids. I really dont see that continuing.

why do we still play walcott instead of ox its stupid and yossi instead of gervinho ,gerv has quality pace and links up wiv rvp brilliantly why not. need cdm cos song just dosent play in that posistion when he plays and leaves the back four open
yann mvilla = 20 mill
plz wenger

Believable5 Unbelievable13

I agree with what you are saying and I prefer the players you have mentioned but it is not as easy as that. As a manager you have to pick the best team at your disposal to give the best chance of beating your opponants. For example against Citeh Yossi's workrate was outstanding and the other players fed of this and Walcott as much as it wasn't his best game he nullified cli$hy who is a big attacking threat.

Yes we have more direct and creative players but you use them in the right games and Wnger got it spot on against Citeh. Tonight for example maybe one for the Ox as I can see Wolves sitting back and going for set piece goals so a greater attacking threat maybe needed.

In Wenger we Trust.

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps because Ox has only played a few games and is being nurtured...

And perhaps because gervinho was injured. Yossi is also better defensively and at retaining possession.

Given that we won the match - what exactly is yor problem?

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

Because he is still young and developing-

think about it, wenger sees him in training everyday, knows a hell of a lot more about football than you or any of us fans do and he signed him and paid a lot of money for him, esp for his age- ofc wenger knows he is good!

So we have to guess that he is developing him and doesn't want to over play or over expose him, whatever- but there is a reason. If AOC was in his 20's, developed, etc then fine, we could then question wengers selection...but that isn't the case.

Agree0 Disagree0

Simply walcott may make some school boy mistakes (misplacing an easy pass) but he is statistically one of the best players in the epl.. all left back are scared of him. also big games require complete concentrations, as stated by Wenger and hence justifying picking benni over gerv in big games. the ox has prodigious talent but has not played enough games at the highest level (against your untds and chelsea's) to vindicate his selection when walcott is fit and available

Agree0 Disagree0

A lot of people are overly critical of Walcott. Yes he can be more consistent but the threat of his pace has an impact on the opponents play which creates space elsewhere so even if not on 100% top form he can have an impact on the game merely by his prescence.

EPIC summer:

Jan Vertonghen (Ajax)
Yann M'Vila (Rennes)
Clint Dempsey (Fulham)
Olivier Giroud (Montpellier) or Matias Suarez (Anderlecht)
Lukas Podolski (Cologne)

Believable33 Unbelievable13

No Attacking Mid?

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't fool yourself

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like to see Suarez over Giroud

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi to all, in my opinion
3 players will be bought, players will be sold and loaned to accommodate these purchases.
clint dempsey (fuhlam)
jan vertonghen (ajax)
matias suarez (Anderlecht)

Agree0 Disagree0

3 strikers and no attacking mid?

This seems highly unrealistic. Wenger will sign 3 players tops - of which one is Podolski.

In an interview before the wolves match, Wenger made an interesting comment (in reference to re-signing Yossi), implying that his next move before the window is to resolve the situation with his players on loan.

Expect conclusions for:
Vela
Arshavin
Denilson
Bendtner
Some of the youngsters - Lansbury, etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently holtby has signed a pre-contract agreement with arsenal so hes the AM {Ed002's Note - I assume you are a follower of Javier Perez and the nonsense that spews from his keyboard. Perhaps Holtby will sign, but he has not signed any pre-contract with Arsenal at all. That would be tapping up.}

Agree0 Disagree0

For some reason I can see wenger re-signing flamini instead of m'villa. Just cause we all know sender loves a bargin and flamini would be that and we all know his quality. But this could all be different only they will no there targets for the new season.

Agree0 Disagree0

EPIC post is just.... EPIC:)

I know Almunia is probably going to leave due to his contract expiring at the end of this season but Eds what are the chances of Fabianski and/or Mannone leaving at the end of this season?

Sydney Gooner {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Believable9 Unbelievable0

Almunia 'probably going to leave' ! Thats an understatement. He is definitely leaving because his absurd £50,000 per week contract is finally up. Mannone is poor & assuming we are able to get rid of him, he will be gone. I also believe that Fabianski will leave as he has already stated he is not happy playing second fiddle to Szczesny. I believe we will try & sign a young British up & coming number two & possibly use Martinez as 3rd choice, if he is ready.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mannone contract might be up as well but he should have been shunted out ages ago, clearly not good enough.

fabianski will probably leave, he can't play second fiddle at both club and international level to the same person.

podolski is coming to aresnal!!!!!

Believable24 Unbelievable5

Wow,
where did u hear this?
who's your source
this one's out of the blue

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Apr 2012 08:59:43
Just read that Theo Walcott is stalling on the 80k per week being offered... Apparently he wants 100k!

Is he worth that? What are the chances of him leaving? Heard he is a massive Liverpool fan... Maybe he'll go there....

Who would we sign to replace him?

Personally I don't want him to go.....

Believable9 Unbelievable19

Would not pay more then 80k for him if he wants more needs to improve and score 15 plus next season
spanner

Agree0 Disagree0

Well first off why would he leave to mid-table dross like Liverpool? Secondly, no he's not worth 100k. Thirdly we could easily fetch a ridiculous price for him, even around the £30m range depending on who is buying. For £30m the possibilities are endless.

Row Z

Agree0 Disagree0

His not worth 100k

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a quandery, but overall I would give him the contract as it will help in keeping RVP at the club, as he seems to rate him. If we were to sell him, we would have to spend to acquire a quality replacement. Assuming we give him a 4 year deal, he will still only be 27 at the end & we could still achieve a sizeable transfer fee. This summer we desperately need to keep our top players, sell our dross & sign 3 or quality players.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would negotiate it like this 80,000 per wk (4.16 mill per year) plus position and goal scoring bonuses taking him up to the over 5 mill that he wants.
KJ

Agree0 Disagree0

There are so many other right footed wingers who wouldn't want so much money and are better.

Agree0 Disagree0

Swap him for andy johnson (city)
spanner

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should give him a basic weekly salary of £80,000-£85,000 (cos that is the going rate for an established England international like him) and give him bonuses for the goals and assists he makes. If he doesn't accept those terms we should definitely sell him for the £25 Million-£30 Million we would most likely receive.

Sydney Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Decent player on his day, but not worth more then 80k. If he doesnt want to stay at arsenal then sell him and start the Ox. Then we can just look for a cheaper right winger to have as back up. Or use Gervinho as back up to Ox and have Podolski and Ryo on the left

Marty

Agree0 Disagree0

He should be getting a pay cut. So inconsistent

Agree0 Disagree0

As an earlier poster said, we need to keep our top players of which Walcott is one and he still will improve. His pace and finishing ability will always mean we can find a buyer if he doesn't become more consistent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont need him and certainly dont need to sign someone to replace him, we have the ready and waiting

Just heard something about Hernanes, would be a quality signing imo the guy is pure flair and talent. 16 million they quoted, if we could whittle that down to 12-13 then id take it..

Surprise surprise who is also after him though.. The s**t need their own scouts!

Gilo

Believable10 Unbelievable6

Qpr tried to sign him at the start of the season on loan, with a view to a 4 million permanent move, and he couldn't get a work permit, what makes you think he'll get one next season, and where are you getting 16 million from?

Agree0 Disagree0

I your thinking about a different player this guy is a cam who players for lazio.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol it's a different person who qpr tried to sign, this guy is much more class then qpr could handle, but he'll never end up at arsenal

Greg

Agree0 Disagree0

Hernanes is a bit of a late bloomer. Good player but I see him staying in Italy.

Billybob {Ed002's Note - I think that there could be interest in the player at the right price but Lazio may have a figure above £20M in mind which is why Juventus have been put off.}
