Tin Jedvaj has just signed for Roma for £4.3 million. And we are thinking about wasting £8-£10 million on Williams. What's the point in having a transfer warchest if we can't prioritise targets. Another missed opportunity. {Ed027's Note - he's about 17, whilst Williams is proven at the highest level, ffs I bet if we signed him you'd say were wasting cash on kids

Believable33 Unbelievable9

Even if we put in a £15m pound bid, the boy is not an apple, he had a choice!

Lanz

Agree1 Disagree0

Well said ed, well said!

Agree2 Disagree0

Very well said ed

Agree0 Disagree0

Hah, well done ed {Ed027's Note - btw main poster I don't know where your post went here it is:
Not so. The point I was trying to make was that youngsters with exceptional potential as this lad is reputed to possess, can sometimes be far better long-term value than a 28 year old CB with only one good season in the PL behind him.
In addition, if posters are constantly reminded to moderate their language, should someone holding the title of Editor be using expressions such as "ffs" {Ed027's Note - what so you'd rather a 17 year old kid starting ahead of a 28 year old experienced cb, who in the past two seasons has been one of the best cb's in the league. Your previous posts tell me that you want improvement now, well you said I yourself Jedvaj would be for the longer term, whilst we need someone who is ready now. Secondly you obviously don't pay attention do you, I've said on previous occasions 'ffs' stands for 'for flips sake'. & we moderate posters language.

Agree1 Disagree0

I doubt Jedvaj was a top target anyway. Top clubs have massive scouting missions to the best talent in The world, where the players identified will be intensely looked at, if a player shows any sign of weakness a top club won't touch him but a club like Roma might take a chance on this kind of player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said eds!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Ed. you just cannot please everyone. our youth recruitment process runs itself. at the moment we are concerned with getting proven exeprience or recognised + proven potential. a 17 year is not there yet. especialy in one of the toughest leagues for Defenders

Agree0 Disagree0

Williams is slow ponderous and prone to an error. Not good enough for The Mighty Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2013 08:48:30
I too agree with Ed 1000%. Majority of people and i'm sure you are one of them, bitch and moan that we are just buying kids blahh blahh blahh. We bid for an established Premier League who is proven, so no need to bed him in to the premier league which could take seasons, he would fit straight in. Hence why we are also going for Suarez. If i'm honest its common sense. By the way (BTW) Ed owned your a$$ lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Editor or not I would say it is hard to just roll around changing popular nomenclature. Surely we can have a discourse without immediately being at each others throats. People have different opinions.

I for one believe that Ashley Williams would be a better signing. For all the reasons that the Ed laid out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tony Adams was slow and ponderous but he did okay

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger is not going to buy who you want.
wake up.

hello Ed was reading a post on the liverpool site that they are trying to get walcott and 40 mill for suarez! do you know if there any truth to this
thanks as always for your time and effort {Ed029's Note - None chum.}

Believable2 Unbelievable50

11 Jul 2013 21:52:58
This will not happen, suarez is not worth £60m plus especially if he hands in a transfer request. If he hands in a transfer request he is probably worth 40-45 million tops and walcott is worth about 20-25 million with the contract he has in my opinion.

Agree1 Disagree1

As I said I read a post on the liverpool site ed gave me an answer I never once said it would happen

Arsenal are set to sign two big name strikers, saying that Rooney has just been sent home from Manchester United Tour with an 'injury in training'.

We will raise our offer for Suarez. Rooney and Suarez are our two targets upfront if we can't get both one will be partnered with Higuain.

Roma and Marseille battle out for Gervinho whilst Roma are offering straight cash and Marseille want a loan

Higuain fee has been agreed with Madrid and the hold up is rumoured to be the players wages. Higuain does want to come to Arsenal despite what some fans on hear have said he thinks we suit his game and admires our football.

Fellaini deal is tied up and done and that's why we haven't heard anything since the offer of personal terms.

Believable50 Unbelievable56

According to the scouts we are not even interested in Fellaini.

Agree2 Disagree1

Blooming exciting if true

Jayjay

Agree1 Disagree0

There could be some truth in this-

looking at the Manchester United page they seem to think the injury is "fishy"

especially as apparently they haven't even started doing any training over there yet!

So he could be on his way out soon.

But to us?

If you go to the Chelsea page they seemed convinced that his going there and there is certainly a lot of buzz about it.

I bet we miss out on him - that's even if wengers puts a bid in the first place.

But if you are confident of your information, it could well happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are all open to hearing about rumours but this is utter nonsense, my 6 year old daughter could come up with something more believable than this!

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney news sounds positive

But all the indications from Spain are that Higuain is not convinced by Arsenal. Looks like the player doesn't want to move to the Gunners

Agree0 Disagree0

Seeing as one of them is a friend of mine he did in fact tell me that he and Steve Rowley really rate Fellaini but Arsene doesn't so there will be no move for him, so maybe you get a grip!

Agree0 Disagree0

Meh what a load of tosh. Rooney only handed in a transfer request as he wants a) 1st team football, i. e. don't like being 2nd fiddle to RVP, and b) is after another payrise, be it from the mancs or any where else (standard issue Rooney sulk job).

Suarez, well dream on guys not going to happen, just another bid so they can say at the end on the window that they tried blah blah, but the prices being demanded were astronomical blah blah etc etc.

Higuain. well I have my doubts but if RM sign a specific striker that we all know they are after, then well maybe, but just maybe.

Sorry for the negativity but I seen this for every season for way to long. let's hope i'm wrong fellow Gooners.

Gavsta

Agree1 Disagree0

We're simply not going to get Rooney, period. I'm sure the Eds would confirm that we simply wouldn't pay 1 player 200,000 a week. That's double anyone else, imagine what it'd do for morale in the dressing room.

You can buy big and marquee without going stupid. Higuain for 100-115,000 pw would be much more preferable

Agree0 Disagree0

We aren't signing anyone until after the Asia tour. If deals were already done we would have wanted those players on the tour. Plus both Wenger and Gazidis are in Asia so who exactly would negotiate. Now I know it can be done over the phone but anyone of quality would require face-to-face.
BD

Agree1 Disagree0

Well we will just have to see if I'm right or not about Fellaini, then you can apologise!

One news media site claiming that Arsenal are set to miss out on Higuain, Felliani and Cesar. Wenger is now looking elsewhere for replacement targets.

Same story indicates that Suarez will be bid for again but Arsenal refuse to meet Liverpools demands

Believable38 Unbelievable21

The only reason Arsenal bid for Suarez is so Madrid will hurry up and sell Higuain, and Madrid will so as that they have a clear run in at Suarez

Agree1 Disagree0

It's not the club that is 'missing out' on these targets. Its the fans. Think about it logically, IF we wanted these players, we would have signed them. Sorry but Arsenal are not naive to think these players cost a fiver!

Unrealistic expectations from fans who still think football clubs are just football clubs are not businesses.

Agree1 Disagree1

It's not 'missing out' if we refuse to pay though is it? If won't pay Fellaini's clause then we aren't 'missing out' as though another club has signed him - we've decided not to go ahead and buy. Big difference. News sites like that exist just to stir it up with the AFC contingent!

Agree1 Disagree0

Lets face it we won't purchase any top stars. So far we have signed a young player with a poor injury history. In order to compete for trophies again, we need an experienced keeper, we need a 4th centre back of quality. We need a tall, athletic defensive midfield player, we need a goal machine up front.

Agree4 Disagree0

You are absolutely right. Each year we expect it to change this year but it never does. Big changes needed for us to go forward I think as at the moment we will not pay the money that other teams will. Been going to the arsenal since I was 7 and its gutting watching teams overtake us and be more successful.

Still can't help hoping I'm wrong and keeping my fingers crossed though. ;0)

Agree2 Disagree1

Here we go again and again, season after season. We show an interest in all these so called big names only to refuse to pay up. Then it's, well, we tried. Getting sick to my back teeth with Chelsea and spurs getting the cream and all we get is sh1t!

Arsenal to come back in for Suarez at around 35 Million. Which will Liverpool will not accept or deny until they know they have line up a high profile replacement in the shape of Benteke.

If you think about it it does make sense.

Spartak Moskva have reportedly decided to put Aiden Mcgeady up for sale. IMO would be a great buy and only has one year left on his contract.

Believable3 Unbelievable59

Vastly overrated and no improvement on several already at Arsenal

Agree1 Disagree0

Would be an awful move for Arsenal the boys poor.
The Celtic board wore Balaclavas as they took £9million for him.

Larky Bear

Agree1 Disagree0

Excellent dribbler, shocking when it comes to playing a final ball or cross & can't shoot for sh1t! He's basically Gervinho

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha, you obviously don't watch much football. McGeady is a one trick pony and would be instantly found out in the Premiership. Like the Gers fan said, Celtic basically robbed Moscow

U must be out of your mind, aiden is not even wigan material,

Terrible signing, he is quick enough going down the wing but that's it. looked good up here when at celtic but worse than gervinho tbh.

Just heard a nice little rumour about chamakh going to southampton in an exchange for first refusal on luke shaw. Apparently we sell them chamakh cheap and we get the first refusal should they decide to sell shaw.
Heard from a man whose dog knows a cat whos brother is friends with a goldfish who talks to a pigeon who sits on the boardrooms windowsill.
But seriously I have heard from a member of the southampton backroom team.

Believable15 Unbelievable42

Its possible- AFC have a pretty good relationship with Southampton. So who knows.

Agree0 Disagree1

This is such a load of b******* why on earth would Southampton be interested in someone as awful as Chamakh. Southampton's ambitions are Champions League not relegation and relegation is what Chamakh would bring to Southampton. Absolutely no chance, Shaw is literally just about to sign a 5-year-contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you serious? No team would want Chamakh! When you think hard, how on earth did we arrive at this situation with Park, Denilson, Bendtner, Chamakh etc. etc. Can't get rid. It's woeful. There is of course, a common denominator.
Da the da da!
Roll of Drums. Cheapskate deals by AW. I thank you.

Agree0 Disagree0

You really should get out a little, and find out something about football.
It is Luke Shaws 18th birthday TOMORROW, and he will sign a full 5 year professional contract with Saints then. It will contain a release clause that will put him out of your league!
By the way, you know that guy from Celtic you were after? Guess who he signed for today! LOL

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Who says we were after Wanyama? One thing is guaranteed Saint Martin, if we were, we would have got him over your tiny, insignificant little club. He's only joined Soton to put himself in the shop window for a move to a bigger club in the prem, which would basically be any one of the other 19 teams in it!

Willesden Gooner {Ed027's Note - Wanyams sees Southampton as a stepping stone mr saint martin, he wants first team. Arsenal would of got him if we wanted him, we have moved on to bigger things

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, Willesden Gooner and Arsenal Ed. , deluded is the word that comes to mind!

Suggest you look at your past posts to see "who says". "We would of (should be have)got him if we wanted him"-just like your other targets so far this window?

And basically Ed. , you all know nothing about what the position is at Saints so stop pretending you do. Your colleagues were posting "no chance Wanyama will join Saints" a few days ago.

Saint Martin {Ed027's Note - maybe because Wanyama said no, he was a little embarrassed when he found himself flying over to Southampton, he laughed off your proposal, but you managed to negotiate a deal for him when he found out nobody else bad Cardiff wnated him. We know what's going on, it is no secret, but people like you are probably expecting Cavani to sign as we speak, pretty deluded bunch

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2013 22:23:08
Arsenal were never after wanyama that was his agent talking to get him out of a one team league and play some competative football. don't get me wrong saint martin not a bad signing for a team that might just dodge relegation next season but was not going to be running out on the emirates carpet more than once a season unless we draw you in the cup too.

Agree0 Disagree0

LMAO! is that goldfish single, my dog who is friends with the neighbours cats said their cats cousin goldfish is looking for a bowl to share.

Agree0 Disagree0

Saint martin, I do like Southampton, but if arsenal were competing with for wanyama with them who do you think he would have signed for?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2013 15:31:50
Well from what was just mentioned by some dude called Warren on Talkport, who does the transfer news, the Hig transfer is stalling because of personnel terms! Perez sanctioned the deal at the price quoted in the media, so dare I say, if this is the case, then it's the same problem. My guess would be we are trying to make him come for less money than he is currently on, despite announcing our wealth and intentions regarding wage structure! Hmmmm

Believable28 Unbelievable16

11 Jul 2013 16:24:22
He is on really small wages atm due to when he signed with RM. We would definitely giving him an increase but idk if we would pay him what other clubs might.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounds plausible.

Entirely likely that Higuain just doesn't want to sign for Arsenal.

We, as fans, simply don't take into account that players might not value our club as much as we do.

It's been rumoured for some time that Higuain wants to move to France or Italy or Germany. Wouldn't rule out one of the mega wealthy Russian clubs being interested.

Agree0 Disagree0

If that is the case, and we don't agree terms, shame on Arsenal and the same old story.
We either change and start to build or we continue to decay.
If the latter, bout time the fans said enough is enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Talksport are full of it. Perez is looking to milk every penny he can get out of Arsenal and why not.

Agree0 Disagree0

Higuan is only on 60k a week at madrid, so doubtful we are offering less.

Agree0 Disagree0

You lost me at talksport

Agree0 Disagree0

Starting to wonder if its going to be the same old same old, signing no one just talking about it

Agree0 Disagree1

Talksport = talksh*te

Agree0 Disagree0

People getting ahead of themselves.

just one person on talksport has broken it. no one else has said anything.

i think there is something else going on.

i really don't think the higuain transfer has broken down. not yet.

i actually think there is another element to this transfer, a deal for another player perhaps.

Di maria is what i'm guessing.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2013 22:27:39
Is this the same talksport that said on friday's drivehome phone in show that higuain was in london having a medical as we speak?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2013 14:30:52
I think the Higuain bid is off. From what I can tell (No insider informtaion. just piecing together media) Real Madrid now want a huge sum for Higuain. that's why Arsenal turned their attentions to Suarez. If Real get a replacement Higuain will come to Arsenal. If not, We will have to look elsewhere

Believable23 Unbelievable18

I don't think there was a bid in the first place.

Hard to believe after all the hype, but so far we seem to have only bid for 2 players, that bitey block at Liverpool and Lars Bender.

All the rest is just media speculation.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2013 12:55:26
Arsenal interest in Kondogbia is well known and reported widely but Arsenal also close to securing a deal for Clement Grenier from Lyon for £5 million. Possible that Grenier might then be loaned back to Lyon.

Understand there is no chance of Fabregas returning to the Gunners. Despite his links with Arsenal and Wenger, Fabregas has the same concerns as the fans about Arsenals ability to challenge.

Worst of all, the delay over the Higuain deal might result in it failing. Higuain is not convinced he wants to move to England, preferring a move to a continental club. Wenger also doesn't want to spend what Real are asking. {Ed029's Note - Ed02 addressed the Grenier deal on another page on Sunday or Monday when asked about Marseille's interest. Any transfer deal is off and Grenier will be signing a new contract at Lyon.}

Believable8 Unbelievable24

I don't have any comments in regards to the other transfer targets you have mentioned, but higuain considering a continental team over us?

which team?

Dortmund won't pay 25mill for him.
Bayern have not even shown interest in him.

Juventus bought their strikers.
Ac milan has balotelli
Napoli does not have a bigger status to Arsenal.

and he has no chance of joining barcelona.

So I fail to see which team on the continent is bigger than us?

If we add the right mix of players, we can surpass most teams on the continent over time.

Agree1 Disagree0

Grenier has now signed a new deal with Lyon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just seen on SKY that Swansea have paid £12M for Wilfred Bony. Not saying that he is a player that we wanted, but yet another club showing more ambition and urgency that we are. We will be left with all the scraps as usual!

Agree1 Disagree0

If he is "not a player that we wanted" then why are you bothered? If all the players that AFC don't want get signed up then it's hardly being left with the scraps is it? Were you apoplectic when Norwich announced 2 signings in a day? Bet you weren't.

Agree0 Disagree0

And now Wanyama has gone to Southampton for £12. 5M. Everybody else is strengthening whilst we keep the money in the bank - oh joy!

Agree0 Disagree0

Just wondering why Grenier signed a new contract then today :-)? the ITK's are the most clueless bunch of all.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is not so much about the players who are being snapped up, it is the fact that other clubs are active and spending large sums (considering the clubs involved) whereas so far we have managed a "free signing".

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2013 16:10:23
In reply to the first reply. Just a point but psg are getting pretty big now and could offer more than us in both transfer fee and wages, offer c. league and near enogh certain to win their own league. Where as we won't be challenging for the league this season at all if we don't sign players of a higher calibre than what is already there. There is no incentive for higuain to sign for us except epl football.
CD

Agree0 Disagree0

At Lakerville - this is the problem. You are saying "if" we add to the squad we can challenge. At the moment that hasn't happened and I understand this may be why Higuain is dithering. There are plenty of other continental teams that might appeal, rather than moving to England. PSG, Monaco spring to mind immediately

Agree0 Disagree0

Grenier just signed a new 4 year deal for lyon so he is out

Benteke is not Chelsea bound, too similar to Lukaku and they are looking for a proven goal scorer with pace. Burak Yilmaz {Ed022's Note - I agree with you in honesty, although there does remain a very small chance he could end up at Chelsea - in my opinion, Benteke will end up at either Liverpool or Arsenal IF he decides to remain in the PL, which I think he will.}

Believable14 Unbelievable7

Spur's need a striker I think that's his destination.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs need a striker bad. and if the others start disappearing off the market. making no move maybe their worst move.

Hey eds! I'm starting to see Fabregas rumours start up again! Haha I know they're just rumours. but do you know if there's any truth to Arsenal preparing a bid around 25 million pounds for Cesc? Like I mentioned before about Arsenal staff being told to deter fans from purchasing #4 Mertesacker jerseys. I thought it was either to clear the way for Cesc because we all can dream. or because Per just wants a change in number, or no meaning at all. Haha anyway there's rumours going around saying Mertesacker has been requested to switch to number 2. It sounds more like Arsenal is clearing the way for someone special! (If you go by the rumours). Reality as of now- Mertesacker just changing numbers. Haha anyway thoughts and replies please! I love to see what others think and have to say!

"Victoria Concordia Crescit"

"Victory Through Harmony"

Something we should be reminded of or see :)
We are Arsenal. Never lose the faith. {Ed022's Note - I'll answer this as best as I can from what I've managed to find out regarding Fabregas - as it stands, it appears that the obvious thought is the correct one with regards to his future. From what I've been told, Wenger and Fabregas still do have contact on a particularly informal basis and a few jokes have been made on Wenger's behalf that he should come back to nail down a starting place and secure his place in the Spanish national side - however, Fabregas at the moment seems borderline 'content' with staying at the Nou Camp. It seems that Fabregas will be willing to hold out for a maximum of one more season (if not before in January) before searching for a new club - so where does Arsenal come in? In blunt terms, the moment Fabregas comes available you can expect Wenger to do everything in his power to lure him back to the Gunners, and I expect him to succeed in that. From the position I'm sat in I don't see Fabregas moving this summer as I think he believes he's being 'groomed' as Xavi's long-term replacement - but you never know, I guess? I know this answer seems pretty obvious, but that's what I've been told regarding Fabregas at this moment in time.}

Believable18 Unbelievable3

Is he really changing numbers? I'm asking this as I was going to get him on my home kit. If anyone knows before I do this it'll be appreciated

Agree0 Disagree0

If thiago leaves, I think cesc stays. if thiago stays then I can see a reason for cesc to leave.

Xavi is going to be 34 at the end of the season, they should seriously stop playing him in big games. all he can do is pass the ball. he has no pace, he cannot beat a man with strength and against bayern and brazil, two teams who looked for his weakness rather than his strenght. all he did was pass the ball sideways.

its like a smug old man, proud to do the same thing again and again, while in denial that many people have gone past him and outdone him.

he was great 2 years ago. but its time for him to take a back seat along with puyol. and in 2 years iniesta has to join them there.

Agree1 Disagree0

If per is changing his number to 2 what is diaby doing? Maybe they r just swapping numbers? Wish fab was coming back but don't think ao this summer

Croydon Gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

Funnier things have happened in football wouldn't surprise me at all! But we are being linked with every one man and his Dog as always. I have a feeling that Bender is not over yet

Agree0 Disagree0

Diaby has already changed to Number 24

Agree0 Disagree0

What ed says makes complete sense, but if he was to announce that he wanted to leave either this season or next or whenever, there would be a huge interest in him, ed do you think he would want a return to us or got to a man utd, city or Chelsea, possibly bayern too

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the reply ed! And no, I don't think Cesc would go to another team other than Arsenal. especially if it was another BPL team. The terms that we have with Barcelona regarding Fabregas is kinda crazy IMO. Correct me if I'm wrong but a 25 million pound bid from Arsenal is equal to a 50 million pound bid from anyone else. The only way I could see us missing out on Fabregas is if someone puts a ridiculous bid for Fabregas like 100 million. Haha anyway I think there may be other things involved with the buy back clause, but I explained the main one I think.

Is this the same malaga guy that on wednesday 26th of june told all us arsenal fans that higuain was having a medical, wasn't sure how long a medical took but thought it was a couple of hours and he would be signed by end of the day on the friday. Then went on to quote 'higuain is an arsenal player' and told us to 'enjoy' his services as an arsenal player. Fifteen days later and no sign of higuain he is now saying we are after lewandowski who his current manager has already said he will be leaving at contract end for bayern munich. Do not expect this to happen!

I notice it didn't last long. Fabregas is not returning.

It's the hope that kills you.

Not sure why my posts are never posted but I try again. Per Mert will change his squad number from 4 to 2 because of the return of cesc and he wants his number 4 back. Would of been a lot better if this actually posted 2 days ago rather than waiting til now when people have already heard the news :- (

Gotta say mate, bit of a stretch. Why not sign him THEN change the shirt number. Changing shirt numbers first makes it seem like we may sign a former player maybe.

I know how you feel. I've tried posting many comments and rumours on here before. After a while I just simply gave up {Ed022's Note - It's probably because they consisted of ignorant viewpoints and/or pointless abuse.}

Nope not true- if this based on the rumour about staff being told to stop selling mertz no4 shirts, then think again. It was found to be false.

Someone rang the shop and asked and they said it was false and they are still selling mertz no4 shirts and have heard nothing about it.

So unless you have genuine inside info, then fair paly to you, if not? I am afraid this is nonsense.
