Ed do u believe with flamini training with us wenger might sign him up as a squad player to be back up?

{Ed022's Note - We've had several ex players and David Beckham training with us during an off season or once they've finished their contracts at their previous clubs. Players such as Campbell (who re-signed) Henry (who re-signed on loan) Pires, Ljungberg (who is now an ambassador for the club. Sorry, if past history is anything to go by, Wenger isn't against it. In my humble opinion though, he will only be signed if players like Bender or Gustavo don't come off...}

Believable16 Unbelievable8

I wouldn't mind him back what happened did he refuse a contract or did it run out without being offered I can't remember think he refused tough always liked him back then in the days of Cl finals and s**t l was a better left back than cashly :p. que abuse

Agree1 Disagree0

Personally I don't think we need a midfielder would rather spend money on a striker

i understand here at arsenal that we are not going to sign subastian perez. I don't know what's the reason. like I told you guys that I can only tell you what I know, heard or seen.

{Ed022's Note - Well that's cleared that up then...}

Believable13 Unbelievable2

Apparently he failed to get a work permit.

Agree0 Disagree0

The fact u started your post with here at arsenal tells me u ain't an insider

Agree0 Disagree0

So being an 'Arsenal Insider' is basically having newsnow bookmarked on your laptop?!

Rumoured that Sebastian Perez has failed to get a Work Permit.

This is a prime example of why Arsenal is so poorly run! Organised may be a better word but still.

Could we not have figured this out before we faffed around organising a trial etc? What a waste of effort. Especially for a player that, in all honesty wouldn't add anything to our squad right now.

Growing increasingly frustrated with this rubbish and this transfer window. So much I see coming from the club is either a contradiction, or completely defies logic. Pissed off!

Believable26 Unbelievable13

I thought he has a spanish passport?

Agree1 Disagree0

It's no surprise that since David Dein was forced out, and he dealt with our transfers, that we had not signed any real decent players. Bring back David Dein before its too late.
We should have bad our signings at the beginning of the summer so the players could bed in with the per season training and games

Agree1 Disagree0

Our club is a joke. Not only can we no longer attract star players but we are no reducing our squad alarmingly to the bare bones - even read today that Jenks is going to be loaned to Sunderland - are we for real? - Time for Wenger and the Board to clear off.

Sky Sport News in Germany have spoken to Luiz Gustavo's agent: "He will make a statement on his future on Thursday"

Lets hope its to announce he's coming to arsenal

My contact in South America tells me that the Gustavo deal is far from done. His agent is looking for 20K a week more than he'd agreed with Wolfsburg. Having looked through our list of released players, we must be around half a million a week lighter on the wage bill. Given our bizzarely public declarations about war chests in recent months, little wonder agents and clubs are trying to jack up prices. Bad PR again Arsenal. let's get the Gustavo deal done, sign a keeper, a defender, and then Suarez (although that's pretty wishful thinking)

Believable25 Unbelievable10

While I understand your comment about "bizarre statements" I think that was a very deliberate ploy by Gazidis and the board to shift the responsibility onto AW for this summers transfer window.
Every game I went to last season the fans were giving Gazidis stick but it now turns out that he has negotiated two massive deals bringing the club 300m in revenue over the next few years plus other smaller deals.
If AW doesn't spend the money and let's face it we are unlikely to get the names that we were linked with earlier in the window then the board can say "well the money is available but its up to AW"
IMO and it seems most fans opinions we need 3-4 in so he better get his finger out!

Ed do you think gustavo will sign and did we infact make a bid

{Ed022's Note - Yes and Yes...}

Apparently Gourcuff is willing to take a wage cut to join us. He'd only be about 8m roughly. I reckon that Wenger could bring him back to his best and he'd be a fairly good option in the midfield.

What d'ya think?

Believable29 Unbelievable26

Think Wenger can bring out the best in him, and hopefully he can come back to the level he was in Bordeux.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hoping for better. He's 27 now, injury-prone and has scarcely played for the last 2 years. He has gone from a great player to one who has only the potential to be what he was, and I think we need more than that. If we are getting an attacking midfielder, I reckon we should get one who primarily plays off the wing. I wouldn't be at all against Di Maria, though doubt we could get him (at least until RM sign Bale).

Agree1 Disagree0

Precisely the signing we don't need. Grenier kept him out of the team towards the end of the season, Lyon don't want to sell Grenier but have been willing to shift Gourcuff for at least 2 windows. This is not what will push us on. It's embarrassing that we even get linked with him! Do you see : Man U, Chelsea, City, Bayern, Madrid, Barca eyeing him up? No, so why the ffff are we? Drives me insane!

Agree2 Disagree0

Metal you are insane in a good way

Agree2 Disagree1

A loan deal with a buy option would'nt be bad. Worst case he'll just be cover.

Agree0 Disagree0

Take a 75% wage cut and get him for like 5mil and maybe be worth a punt but other than that defo wpuldnt sign him

Agree0 Disagree0

Should have got gourcuff 4 years ago when we were close - too injury prone, and past his best. We have ramsay, rosicky, wilshere, carzola, ox and diaby who can play a range of AM/ LM/ RM roles - wait for Fabregas next year is my vote.

Banter -

Given that Brazilian players are very very concerned about their place in the squad ahead of the world cup, it would make sense to go for some of the quality players flight for a place in the team (hence gustavo).

Others to consider:
Willian (LW - position where we can use cover)
Hulk (Not the cheapest, but could be interesting)
Jadson (player we were linked with in the past)

{Ed022's Note - Hulk is so over-rated. Look at his career stats. Who has he played for? Currently Zenit (in a poor league) and he manages about 1 goal every 3 games. For Porto (in a poor league) he managed 1 in 2. Not a great player IMO, great name though. Willian is quality but still has £30m price tag. (Not Wenger's market value, so he wont bid.) As for Jadson, he has moved "home" to Santos last year and being Brazilian in a World Cup year, in Brazil, he won't be going anywhere...}

Believable19 Unbelievable3

To be honest ed, he is not that overrated though I agree his value shouldn't that high.

ok in zenit he might be flop, might because of the situation of the club. but in porto he is having a good time. portugal league might not at the same level as EPL, but u can't judge player by only that. remember bergkamp, vieira and how they flop in seri A?

and how much would u expect from a striker if 1 in 2 is not good enough?1 for every game?ridiculous statistic IMHO. no hard feeling mate.

PS : sorry for my bad english

{Ed022's Note - 1 in 2 games is fine. In the Premier League. Name three other fantastic teams in Portugal? Benfica? Erm...That's about it? Sporting Lisbon? My point is, I could have a goal ratio of 1 in 2 in Portugal. If Hulk played for Arsenal and scored 1 in 2 in the Premier League then I would have a different opinion...}

thanks for the comments Ed022.

defintely get the feeling hulk is a little over-rated, but I do think he is a good powerful player. that said, he could be julio baptitsa_v2

agree that 30mln is quite a bit to pay for the willian, but he is 25 and has shown some great champions league performances.

i think if we can't get a striker (particularly, as giroud looks good at the moment), we should be aiming for a quality lwf. struggling to come up with a list of potential targets:

willian
ben arfa

Jadson's at Sao Paolo not Santos.

But agree with rest of your response ed.

Add to that maybe Cesar hasn't signed because of wage demands as mentioned on here before but also he expecting to first choice keeper throughout the season. Where as Wenger wants some to compete with Scz for the 1 spot.

It was reported y-day that lewandowski was unhappy with dortmund and bayern over a move. I love for arsenal to make a move for him, surely a decent bid would be better for dortmund rather than lose him for nothing next year.

{Ed022's Note - Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE Lewandowski to come to Arsenal. He is only 24 but is already world class and has lots of experience. He would slot straight in and score goals for fun. However, in a note of caution, Dortmund could offer him to other clubs but think about it, he'd be priced at about £25m and there are a few clubs who could do with a striker; Real Madrid, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal to name a few. Do yo think we could outbid these clubs or convince Lewandowski to join us over these clubs? If we're completely being honest, I think we would come up short. However, my gut is still that he will join Bayern on a free next year...}

Believable19 Unbelievable1

13 Aug 2013 12:26:18
Ed022 yes we can out bid all of them.

being willing to spend it is another thing.

{Ed022's Note - But can we? Actually OUTBID them? That was my point. Wenger has a valuation of EVERY player and if it goes above his valuation then he won't bid for them. Therefore, we won't outbid Chelsea, Real Madrid or Man Utd. We were interesting in Cavani, Higuain, Mata, Hazard but as soon as their price tag was above AW's market value we didn't stand a chance...}

Agree1 Disagree0

I disagree ed. I bought Lewy on Fifa and he said he was pleased to play for Arsenal. {Ed027's Note - haha

Source ESPN: Gourcuff is ready to lower his pay to join arsenal - Lyon chairman. {Ed044's Note - He would need to. Very high wages, injuries and he has hardly played for two years.}

Believable14 Unbelievable20

Any interest at all in him Ed?

{Ed022's Note - Personally, I have no interest in him at all...}

Agree1 Disagree0

I can't express enough how disappointed I would be if we signed Gourcuff.

{Ed022's Note - As I expressed earlier, I concur. Completely unneccessary signing and we need to address other areas...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Awww don't be horrible Diaby needs someone to keep him company on the injury Bench!

{Ed022's Note - Vermaelen can do that for now...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Would he not be worth a risk though if cheap? I'm sure he did used to be equality player before the injuries. Still would like us to up our standards tho
