Hi Ed, any possibility of signing Christian Erikson as he has really impressed for Denmark. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and AC Milan have shown an interest in Eriksen in the recent past. He has already rejected both Manchester City and Chelsea but AC Milan remain the most interested club. The Milan Press Office are convinced of interest from Manchester United and they have let it be known that they expect a bid to be made by for Eriksen who remains adament that he will stay in Amsterdam for two more years before moving to Spain. Expect AC Milan and Roma to press if a bid is made by Manchester United.}

Believable7 Unbelievable23

Well he has not exactly impressed for Denmark at the Euro's, but earlier this year he played som good games...
He is too young and inexperienced for at top team in EPL, he will stay in Ajax for two years more and then move on.. In AFC he will be a squad player and thats no interest for him

Agree0 Disagree0

I cannot see him starting ahead of Wilshere or Arteta really, a dont think he'd be a regular starter for us. He's a really good young player and will probably be great one day, but he really isn't yet. I don't think arsenal need to buy any more players with great potential, at least for a year, as I think even Wenger now realises we need some established quality coming in or we will fall far behind

Ivan Gazidis said that in the next few days will be exciting for Arsenal fans. Ed, do you think that by this he meant that we would confirm the signing of Giroud or something else? {Ed002's Note - I would be guessing - sorry.}

Believable13 Unbelievable13

A new club shop is opening up in central london. Exciting stuff actually - and it will be posted up on the arsenal website next week.

Agree0 Disagree0

Go on ED002...... Have a flutter ;p

Agree0 Disagree0

Ticket prices are being raised again?
RvP is being sold?
Denilson, Bendtner, and Squillaci are in Wenger's plans for next season?

oh the humanity!!

-Gooner Curmudgeon

Agree0 Disagree0

Our summer is looking very very good suddenly.

Confirmed Podolski
Strongly linked with Girioud
Strongly linked with M'Vila

Found a home for Squelch (Bastia>?)
Will get good value for Arshavin
Found a home for Vela (Spain...)
Will get good interest in Bendtner
May swap for Chamakh!

Wenger is putting at the fifa/football manager players to shame!

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

Its the same every year we get told there are exciting times ahead then nothing. Dont believe anything till it appears on the arsenal web site and even though Ivan the terribles comments were on there dont believe them.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, its PR bulls**t and spin, same as he comes out with every transfer window - dont forget they're still getting the money from quite a few people for their memberships, and trying to get rid of the unwanted season tickets

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been on the waiting list for a season ticket for 4 years and I'm still 20,000 something in the queue. Whatever happens people will still buy them

ed is kalou going to sign for liverpool? if not do you still think wenger could sign him? i'd have him at arsenal decent player + he's a free even better, and do you think we will sign a full back and a replacement for djourou if he leaves? and is the giroud deal almost done like every1 is making out?

sorry to blag you with loads of questions.
cheers ed

aaronk9 {Ed002's Note - Giroud: a move outside of France beckons with Arsenal the favourites. KAlou: Probably not. There is interest in Kalou from Schalke, Newcastle and Galatasaray. Previously Olympiakos approached Chelsea with an offer to take Kalou in January but the player has no interest in a move to Greece. Marseille did make an enquiry but the problem would be wages. If that could be resolved it could provide a solution that suits everyone. Interest from Liverpool is not out of the question.}

Ed I was wondering if you had any idea about the availablity of Gourcuff of Lyon? Arsenal were very heavily linked with him last year but everything became dead. Any light on what happened? And is there a chance the same has happened with M'Vila?
Scottish Gooner {Ed002's Note - Gourcuff will probably not move. M'Vila we will see.}

Believable3 Unbelievable11

If we are taking ganles on players with bad injury records, I prefer Afellay!

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

Gourcuff is injury prone and his form is teribble

Hi Ed's

Do you think M'Vila and Giroud is going to sign for us? Also what is the chance of Arsenal signing anyone defense like Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa? Also what is the chance of Arsenal signing anyone in Attacking midfield (Ibrahim Afellay)? Lastly and news in back up keeper?

Young gunner {Ed002's Note - There is a decent chance that one or perhaps both Giroud and M'Vila will sign. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has attracted the attention of Dortmund, Newcastle and Marseille in addition to Fenerbahce - which looks his likely destination. I think Afellay is still a high risk option but there is a chance. Goalkeepers - none I am aware of right now.}

Klass jan huntellar linked to Arsenal for 17m if true could be the end of RVP...

Bradders

Believable13 Unbelievable34

Wouldn't mind this scenario

Agree0 Disagree0

How did this post come through?

And why would Huntelaar even consider coming to Arsenal? He's extremely happy at Schalke.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if we get giroud we won't get huntellar. If rvp goes I think if we did replace him it would be with a player similar to him, more of a flair player. Though knowing Wenger, I think he wouldn't buy another after getting podolski and giroud

Chimney sweep josh

Arsenal are being linked with Serbian international Neven Subotic!!! Would love this to be true but cant see it happening

Believable15 Unbelievable17

Source?

Agree0 Disagree0

So basically borussia dortmund are selling all there best players apparently....

AG

Agree0 Disagree0

Caughtoffside.com saying Subotic would be a player that turns us into genuine title contenders isn't a link.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal have been linked with him for years though cant see it happening but would be amazing if he did! He would make us into genuine title contenders

Agree0 Disagree0

Would put the likelyhood of this happening at 2.3% (actual stats of CaughtOffside getting it right!)......

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we be title contenders if we bought subotic?
People said last summer that we would be title contenders if we bought a centre back who dominated in the air (remember samba, cahill?) and we bought mertesacker. we finished 20 points behind 1st place.

So tell me, how does subotic make us a title contender?

By the way, there's as much chance of us buying subotic, as there was of us signing eden hazard last year. zero

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO he and Hummels are the best CB pairing in the world

Agree0 Disagree0

Because with Podolski , RVP and Giroud likely we would have the goalscoring ability and wouldnt rely too much on RVP also with Mvilla likely to come we then have steel in our Midfield all we would then need is a world class defender AKA Neven Subotic and we would have a team easily able to contend for the title

ed do you think we could get dzagoev this summer? after all this might be cska's last chance to get some money out of him.

iceman {Ed002's Note - It would make no financial sense for the player to move now. And CSKA are looking to give him a new deal.}

Believable13 Unbelievable17

Dzagoev to cska is like fabregas to us. wont be cheap. i doubt wenger will get him. {Ed002's Note - He is out of contract in December.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He is out of contract, but I dont think we will get him. There are quite a lot of midfielders that have been available at a good fee (montolivio this summer) who probably dont even get a look in by Wenger. I see Dzagoev as one of those.

Any chance to get Christian Zapata Ed?

Sydney Gooner {Ed002's Note - Slim - he will be moving but Juventus and the two Milanese clubs are favourite.}

does anybody else thing we should look into fabio coentrao he is a good LB better at defending than santos ( so is my granny ) and is good at going foward. as well as playing LB he can play RB and CDM, very versatile just what arsenal need. what are the possibilities of this happening ed.

VP.10 {Ed002's Note - Very, very slim.}

Believable6 Unbelievable29

We have two left backs, we will not sign any more!

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't mind people asking about LBs because both of ours are pretty weak and nowhere near both good enough at defending and attacking in equal measure. But to ask about someone who moved last summer to R Madrid for mega money and has had a brilliant season....there's just no point in asking really!

Agree0 Disagree0

Madrid paid about 27m for him, can you really see Wenger paying anything near that figure? Also, having admittedly only watched him play a few games for Madrid, his defending seemed very average to me and sees Marcelo get the nod over him.

Agree0 Disagree0

He signed for Madrid last season for 25+ Million, no way on earth will they be willing to sell for under that and theres no way we will pay more than that.

If we want a young left back to compete with Gibbs and Santos i think we should look at Nacho Monreal of Malaga.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2012 16:11:44
Santos actually isn't that bad at defending as people like to claim, (certainly better than your granny anyway). In the one and one situations against wingers, Santos is a very good defender, he has an unusual and unorthodox style of defending but it's effective. In the air, he is very good. He is strong, he can't be bullied and he's also very strong in the tackle, if you have properly watched Santos over a long period of time, you would know this and the stats back this up and help to prove my points true.

Please check out this article:

http://www.eplindex.com/13838/bad-defender-arsenal-andre-santos-statistical-analysis.html

As we all know, he's great going forward. His biggest problem is his fitness, his pace and his mobility which I believe is all linked to his poor fitness, because once he gets going down that left wing, he's pretty quick and hard to stop.

He isn't lazy, it's his fitness that is the main problem because he lacks the stamina and pace to get back in position and his biggest problem defensively is balls in behind him between himself and the centre back. He reads it but he just can't get there like he would if he had Gibbs pace and agility.

I believe if he really improved his fitness and slimmed down over the summer, he could be a very good left wing-back, that's just my opinion after watching him for the whole of last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sell one

VP.10

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on about the santos fitness issue. It goes without saying that santos has quality, and if he had the fitness and stamina like gibbs, as the guy above suggested, then santos would be absolute top quality.

when the giroud deal is completed we should go hell for leather to sign belhanda, he was immense last year and combines well with giroud, wouldnt be fussed if walcott/gervinho were sold to make room for him.

ed, any chance this happening?

bs18 {Ed002's Note - There is confirmed interest in Belhanda from Inter, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Arsenal and PSG and there is unconfirmed interest from Roma. The player says he wishes a move to Italy or Germany with Bayern Munich or Dortmund or to play for PSG if Italy Germany is not possible (seems he is not really sure where he wants to move to). A price of 30M euros has been quoted by Montpellier who really do not want to sell.}

Believable16 Unbelievable7

I hate it when so called top players, don't want to move to England, just leaves an impression that they personally don't feel their good enough for the physical side of the English game. If you don't move to England and play in what i believe is the best league in the world in the premier league then you will never be one of the best players of all time. Sorry leo, maradona, etc

Agree0 Disagree0

I prefer his team mate Remy Cabella, much more raw and physically a long way behind Belhanda, but the better talent by quite a bit IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2012 11:54:43
ed, depending on how he does at the euros, do you see wenger being interested in debuchy?

thought he was very good against us in the opener and wouldnt mind him starting ahead of gibbs or santos

i know newcastle are interested, and they have a knack for spotting talent so why not go for him.

bs18 {Ed002's Note - I am not sure it is a priority for Arsenal. Debuchy is of interest to Valencia. This was their Plan B to the stalled Van Der Wiel situation. Inter, AC Milan, Manchester United, Newcastle, Bayern Munich and Palermo have also shown varying degrees of interest.}

Believable7 Unbelievable7

He's a right back. He would be in competition with Sagna, who is just ahead of him in the France roster but is injured. Gibbs may not be ideal, but bringing in another specialist left back would be wasteful unless we're giving up on Gibbs and selling him on, which we are categorically not doing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Problem is that he is only two years younger than Sagna, so he wouldn't really be a long term successor to Bacary would he? I think either Coquelin or even Garry Bocaly from Montpelier could be that successor, however.

Arsenal Euro 2012 Review So Far:
Arsenal Players have looked good so far and I'm highly impressed
Tomas Rosicky: Instrumental for Czech Republic but has not been at his best! But has been the key playmaker for the Czech's

Andrei Arshavin: (SUPRISE OF THE TOURNAMENT) if you have watched russian matches so far Arshavin has been like a right footed messi he has been fantastic running past players making assists and has shown glimpses of the star player that scored four for arsenal on that cold merseyside night!

Robin Van Persie: He has been quiet and lacked sharpness but scored an amazing goal last night with his right foot but RVP looks set to stay but I think he's a little distracted!

Lukas Podolski: Shown some very good signs and technique in the competition and was very good with 1-2 passes!

TRANSFER TARGETS:
Christian Eriksen: Has been very good for denmark and has shown great link up play like Xavi and iniesta

Alan Dzagoev: Not seen much of him but has scored three goals!

Lil Tim

Believable13 Unbelievable24

Arshavin has been played out of position since he joined Arsenal. wenger has wasted him big time!

Agree0 Disagree0

If you have watched the Russians to see Arshavin, than how exactly have you missed the play of Dzagoev?

Agree0 Disagree0

Arshavin was great against Czechs but absolutely uselss again Poland!

Chess

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh Yeah and Podolski has looked a shadow of his past self. If he performs like this for us I expect Gervinho to win his place back pretty quickly

Chess

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't think Arshavin was surprise of the tournament as he regularly is quite good and consistent for Russia as the pretty much build the team and attacks around him it's at club level where he is asked to defend he hits major problems, rosicky for me has been quite surprising as he has really shone for the Czechs I would be surprised if an offer came in for him, likewise with bendtner.

RVP has been a bit shocking Infront of goal Ino the Dutch have a lot of egos but it's finishing he's had problems with (until yesterday woooow) like you said poldolski looks promising proper work horse that does his job effectively and may offer something different down the wings rather than Walcott and gervinho with pace?

If any thing our players having a good tournament might help us move them on as Ivan said we are looking to sell. Worried about Walcott though a surly he may be asking questions to whys he's not starting but the Ox is fear he may leave due to a big star rising underneath him and he is still relatively young (Walcott that is)
Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't forget the mighty Bendtner. 2 goals against the Portugese :D

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought Erikson was solid but unspectacular - mostly anonymous. Podolski also quite anonymous offensively, although it would be wrong to judge him on two difficult and fairly tentative games for the Germans so far - we all know what he is capable of! Have been rather impressed with Simon Poulsen though I must say, we could do with a stop gap left back who can defend whilst waiting for Gibbs to become the player we all know he's gonna be :)

with redknapp leaving spurs and jan vertonghen not signed yet maybe it will put him off spuds and we can nick him from under their noses

what are the chances of this ed?

bs18 {Ed002's Note - No idea.}

Believable34 Unbelievable15

Be interesting to see who Spurs get as manager, as they have left sacking 'Arry a bit late - with a lot of managerial transfers already taking place, and them potentially missing out on good replacements. Hopefully will get Vertonghen to reconsider, and perhaps sign for Arsenal. I also imagine it is probably a certainty now that Modric will leave them.

Bentschke

Agree0 Disagree0

Literally my sentiments exactly. sign him up arsene
BW

Agree0 Disagree0

Unlikely. He'd have no guarantee of first team football with us, where as at Tottenham he'll be the number one centre half. I think if it's not Tottenham he'll be going abroad.

Chimney sweep Josh

Agree0 Disagree0

He might be good but I don't want a player who has been in the midst of a public lovefest with Spurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jan wanted champions league football but from the interested clubs we were the only champions league team, but then decided spurs were for him can only mean he didn't believe he wouldnt be guaranteed first team and to be honest I don't think he would of been TV,Kos were a quality pairing last season some mistakes but that's expected in a first full season playing together, mertesacker may have been the subject to a lot of grief but considering his caps and his previous standard of football he can't be as bad as everyone keeps saying. Why try to sign someone who clearly wanted to go else were I'm glad we didn't get him prefer what we have to him anyway

DD arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

Good Shout

Agree0 Disagree0

Vertonghen is like mertesacker but with better feet. He is a slow centre back. We dont need another 1 like that.

Agree0 Disagree0

He would get first team football at left back where he played for Belgium against England so sign him up. Gibbs will be a good back up when not injured and Santos - well enough said

Agree0 Disagree0

Vertonghen is certainly not slow - he can match verm and kos for speed

quality centreback imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we want a player who saw spurs as a better option to us? he should never be a gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

We will not sign Vertonghen. Interestingly no top teams came in for him, only Tottenham, a 4th placed Europa League outfit. This speaks for itself, that he isnt rated as highly as the hype suggests.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it is intriguing where he played for Belgium against England. As It used to be TV5 who was shipped out at LB and now it is Vertonghen. That in a nutshell shows I think that the Belgian coach rates Vermaelen as a better defender overall, which may explain Arsenal's reluctance to go and make a serious bid.
Just a thought - I could easily be completely wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dun 4get...pep might be interested in dat position...imo

Agree0 Disagree0

I would prefer Mbwia - we need someone who can play anywhere across the back!

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

Vertonghen could not match either Vermaelen or koscielny for speed.

In Arsene I Trust.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's good or great player in his last year of contract and still Ajax want loads of money for him. Maybe the teams are waiting for him to finish his contract and sign him on free?! This MAY BE the reason for top teams not going for him. Good and steady CB/LB, great at going forward and also has power, height and pace. I watched him for belgium couple of times (playing left-back) and for ajax (playing something like, we used to call in old-school days, "libero" - moving from back four(CB or LB) to DM to ST position all along the pitch - great versatility, sense of the game and movement of players and ball). IMMO future top top player. I would love to see him in our starting lineup (LB or DM or CB - nevermind), maybe even before Song and Gibbs (who I rate as CM and LB).

MaJaBa movement

Agree0 Disagree0

Think certain people are being a bit harsh. He wanted to play for Tottenham as he would be guaranteed first team football. All the CL Man City, Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea have at least 2-3 quality CBs with 1 or 2 average backups, so he just wanted to make sure he could play in his favoured position of CB with Spurs. Nothing wrong with that. Arsenal should sign him as he is equally as good as Vermaelen and Koscielny. I remember one of the EDs saying he had a suspicion that Vertonghen would sign for Arsenal, think he could be right...

Hass

Agree0 Disagree0

Your a bit late Hass. Vertonghen's name has been bled dry on this page, and now its giroud who has that honour. When he signs for a different club, only then will the name be dropped. Havent seen Hazard's name on here recently have you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone saying vert couldnt match our cbs for speed have never seen him play - still id rather keep our 2 at the back - a bit shakey but all they need is a holding mid imo

Agree0 Disagree0

If we can we should bring him in and rotate our defenders more. This means less injury, greater squad depth and a greater chance of winning the title.

Agree0 Disagree0

Koscielney is faster than most midfielders. Vertonghen is no where near as fast. I think its you that hasnt seen vertonghen play. Maybe his stat on football manager has confused you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ajax fans, on the whole, rate him much more than TV. And he is definitely faster!

My mate is a season ticket holder at Ajax and can't believe he hasn't signed for anyone yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

He might not be as good as Verlmalen but his better than gibbs/santos, i say throw him out wide!

Agree0 Disagree0

A player who stated that he prefers sp*ds over us....
i dont care for what reason
i for one wouldnt welcome him
bosscielny n tv5 are perfect we dont need vert.
we need players like tv5 stating love for the club not players who would leave us for better ops

just read on sky sports news Ivan Gazidis has openly said that we are talking to several people regarding transfers & that something exciting will happen for Arsenal fans to be happy about.

Now he obviously knows more about whats going on than we all do. This could potentially mean various things.

a) We will sign Giroud & maybe Mvila, maybe others

b) We will sign Giroud & RVP is staying

c) We are signing a real star player none of us saw coming

d) RVP is staying & a star player is comin aswell as Giroud & Mvila

Hoping it will be the last but reckon it will be A.

Believable31 Unbelievable15

Just hoping option "A" includes RVP staying ;)

Ed002 with the interest from different clubs that you have mentioned in M'vila, out of curiosity what is it that makes you think that he is arsenal's for the taking. I'm assuming at least half the clubs you have linked could pay higher wages and offer first team football. Thanks {Ed002's Note - I understand that the player would be happy to join Arsenal.}

Believable14 Unbelievable5

Is it not the same reason so many other players chose Arsenal over higher wage/fee offers? Because they like Arsene, like the system, like the way we play, and hopefully - they have some incentive to win trophies for us, playing attractive football the Arsenal way!
