Can i please ask....what is going on over at the Colney Training Center that year after year, at nearly the same time every year, we lose half of our 1st team to injuries?

North Carolina Gooner

Believable28 Unbelievable1

I believe it is due to a few factors:
1) Poor conditioning of the players
2) As the squad has been weak for a while now, the same players have to play too often & become injury prone.
3) The idiotic formation we have been using for some time, leaves huge gaps, particularly in front of the full backs, which means the players have to cover far more ground. Hence, it is no coincidence that the defenders are suffering more injuries, with poor cover from the midfield. If we go back to 4-4-2 the four midfield players can cover the 4 defenders far more easily and a 2nd striker helps offensively.

Agree13 Disagree3

Could be the cold weather? Sounds silly but if you dont prepare for cold weather training it can hit your body hard? just a suggestion because yeah this does seem ridiculous and we have more than enough trained professional coaches, if they are struggling I will offer my services as a conditioning coach:)
Dan

Agree3 Disagree2

I think the manager is as tight as they come and the board without Dein in place like the fact we never buy.
over the last 5 or 6 years we have in Jan not buying has cost us dearly we keep hearing about not effecting the youngster coming through well these same youngster ARE affecting the first team in negative way
time something drastic happened at the club as we are continuing to decline

Agree7 Disagree0

Excellent posts all stating exactly what is wrong. At last you wake up and start talking sense. Arsenal have for too long banked the cash and invested disproportionately in new players, the current formation is terrible, and the future will be a nightmare if fans don't wake up and put pressure on the board.

It is time to evaluate the squad and decide to remove players who are not good enough. Here is my scoring for each player and I feel 7/10 is the minimum for the squad.

Szczesny - 7.5 / 10
Fabianski - 6 / 10
Almunia - 5.5 / 10
Sagna - 7 / 10
Mertesaker - 5.5 / 10
Vermaelen - 9 / 10
Koscielney - 7 / 10
Squilacci - 4 / 10
Santos - 5.5 / 10
Djourou - 5 / 10
Jenkinson - 6 / 10
Gibbs - 6 / 10
Boateng - 5 / 10
Yennaris

Agree2 Disagree7

Szczesny sagna and kos not even reaching 8? do you watch the same games as me?

bit unfair to rate the young ones and new buys so early on.

Agree3 Disagree0

We train our players way too hard, for the type of intense paced attack we play with. Hence, hamstring injuries and calf strains....

More fluids and rest, less intense training...difficult to do with new squad and turnover, hence injuries....

we need a massive clearout in the summer - diaby and gibbs always injured so not worth keeping , squilacci djourou simply not good enough , arshavin just aint going to do it for us , good player but just to inconsistent , we have a big squad but far to much deadwood and it shows lately!

Believable34 Unbelievable0

I think it is unrealistic to citing names such as MVila,Gotze,Benzema...
People seem to think it is like going tot he supermarket and just picking players from the shelf...do we forget that players must also be interested in moving...? especially the players cited...I agree that Arshavin may need to regain form elsewhere and squillaci for that matter...but the problems faced are a collective one...intensity in defending and quick movement off the ball..for that matter and taking into account squad restrictions and what is REALLY available on the transfer market...Abidal, Vertonghen,Montolivo are most realistic targets at this stage (who knows what happens in the summer) with Arshavin/Squillaci finding football elsewhere

EV

Agree2 Disagree0

For me arshavin is just holding back the ox who looks a great prospect , but i take your point , not sure who would want some of are players so they will probly just end up on loan somewhere

Agree2 Disagree0

I would add our loan players to above list of players to get rid of Worst squad of players i can remember at the club WHY DO SO MANY PLAYERS GET INJURED AT ARSENAL

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Jan 2012 20:22:12
we need:
in:
yann m'vila-£17- would be unstoppable with song
gotze-£30m-replace gervinho
podolski-£15m-play along side rvp
abidal-£5m-left wing due to so many injuries
and to an extent benzema-£35m
out:
ashavin-£8m
chamack-£7m
squillaci-£2m
rosicky-£9m

but AW isnt as usual willing to spend- get really annoying.

Believable14 Unbelievable15

Why replace gervinho? he has played pretty well recently and gives arsenal another dimension to work with.....

Agree18 Disagree4

Abidal on the left wing? what are you talking about?

Agree13 Disagree2

No way M'vila, Benzema or Gotze. Podolski is debateable and past it anyways, and Abidal will probably stay Barca....

Agree8 Disagree3

Get m'vila but who would he replace? song ? arteta? wilshere?

gervinho is a new signing why would wenger replace him, definately has troubled almost all defenses that we have played against..
Benezema wont come for 35 mil and wenger wont spend that much when we have rvp!
abidal yes good signing for us but it wont happen as barca sold maxwell.i disagree completely

-batch

Agree11 Disagree0

Are u serious gervinho cannot finish at all and hes 24

Agree2 Disagree6

Give him a chance Henry couldn't hit a barn door either when he first joined, and neither could RvP....

Don't panic!

CS

Agree11 Disagree1

Henry only took 7 or so games tonscore then turned out to be the best striker the premier league has seen gervinho will never even come close to that, give the guy a chance seems to be wengers new policy been doin it for years with donkeys like Walcott, arshavin chamakh and it hasn't worked so cut that crap out wenger needs to spend big or go home same with the board produce the cash or resign and let someone else have ago preferably someone that supports arsenal and wants to see trophies instead of cash in there bank accounts
Gunner14

Agree2 Disagree2

I think all our signing has been good
I think the people who definetly have to go is Arshavin Squallini Chamakh and Mannon or Almunia. I dont think we have to buy anyone. We have great youth which we can use and players coming back from loan

Agree7 Disagree4

Heard tat wenger is gona bid for hazard 25m+player

Agree0 Disagree4

Everyone's missed something on the original post here - £9m for Rosicky?! REALLY?! If he's worth that then surely your valuation of Goetze should be closer to £100m!

Agree5 Disagree0

£9m for Rosicky?!?! i would drive him to any club that would pay this. He is worth £2.5 MAX, he hasn't scored int he PL in 2 years

Agree3 Disagree1

15 Jan 2012 20:16:16
Can we hang onto RVP and Vermaelen if performances like this continue?

Believable16 Unbelievable5

Of course not- dont be silly m8 looool- no offense intended

Agree8 Disagree3

We are s**t average at best now and need to know if we have cash to spend or not,if we have and wenger wont spend then sorry time to go but as i expect its stan who is at arsenal to make a profit and pocket the cash so get him out asap before we end up in coca cola champ

Agree5 Disagree3

It is npower championship now...hope we can win that atleast!

Agree1 Disagree2

Ok i dont know if you actually believe we will be in the npower but sarcism on a day like today does not help

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on people....Vermaelen has just renewed and likes the surroundings...RVP will only make a decision AT THE END of the season and it may be that his reasons for staying(or leaving) are more personal than all of us backseat experts know...who knows..

The notion of us playing championship is a silly one at this point but I understand the sentiment..Our first XI is not a mid table...not a title contender for that matter but it would silly to think we are suddenly going to go into bottom three (stranger things have happened Iagree) ...We all have our views (and no doubt analysis) as to what we think the teams need but to attribute all the ills in the world to the manager and not the board and not even the players for their subpar performance is also v silly and short sighted...I personally think a versatile playmaker forward and defender (having replaced arshavin and squillaci), More game time to Ox and intensive work with the fitness coaches will improve our games enormously but am not the manager with coaching qualifications...All those clamouring for raid on the transfer windows (a) It may be work is being done undercover in that direction (b) it is not easy at all to find readily and available players that want to leave and the club want to sell...so thinking otherwise is silly...It is an excuse nor acceptance of mediocrity or the status quo ...it is a fact ...It was a v bad day at the office so to speak but lets see how the players respond over the next 3 games and also what happens in the LAST WEEK of the transfer window

Anyone who went to the match against swansea want hppened in the end. Why was Henry angry to some arsenal fans but I heard on the wireless that he was really angry

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Maybe the fans booed and he was angry at that? I switched off the moment the full time whistle went so I didn't see anything.

wenger needs to get rid of the defenders.
Except for santos/sagna/TV

Believable3 Unbelievable12

Kos was class today!

Mong Out!

Agree14 Disagree3

And Koscielny

GunnerzBoy

Agree7 Disagree5

Santos is not good enough either as far as I'm concerned. The only decent defenders we have are TV5/Kos/Sagna.

Worrying.

G95

Agree7 Disagree3

Koscienly is awsumn! settled in really well now, + Mert give him some times, he's quality in some respects, not pace, but with cover he's good + Jenkinson looking good as well for the future + considering we're missing so many defenders and they don't have tome to pair up, they're doing just about okay, considering

Agree6 Disagree1

I'd like to chip in and keep Miquel- looks one hell of a prospect to be fair.

Agree12 Disagree1

I disagree. Keep:

Vermealen
Koscielny
Sagna
Santos
Jenkinson
Mertesacker
Miquel
(Coquelin) I know he is midfield but he looks equally as impressive as a wing back. Class.

if we dont sign any players in january we will finish 5th or 6th

watford gooner

Believable22 Unbelievable1

What a mess swansea well done you outplayed our rubbish! we are going to up like Liverpool miucking about in 5th - 7th! what a mess Wenger has produced RVP will leave when we don't qualify for Champion League why would he stay and at inking team! I bet Henry can't believe how bad it has got since he left USLESS

Agree23 Disagree0

15 Jan 2012 18:33:52
Arsene Wenger has to go. He has taken us as far as he can go. Please the board give him the option to go upstairs and give all the money to Josep Guardiola and pay the compensation to barcelona

Believable19 Unbelievable22

I agree but too many people still have rose tinted glasses. Wenger will never leave and will probably sign a contract extension.

Agree8 Disagree4

Why the hell would Guardiola want to join Arsenal at this current moment in time?

Agree6 Disagree2

I know that, but I am sick and tired of his attitude, he knows we need the players and he watchs them for 1 - 3 years and our rivals go and get them two names come to my mind Cahill and Mata. Arsenal wanted them and could not pay £1 million more to Bolton for cahill

Agree12 Disagree0

When do you propose Wenger leaves? Do you think we will do any better this season without him? You cant just 'pay the compensation' to Barca - Guardiola has to want to come, which will not be the case halfway through a season. Wenger leaving now would mean either Pat Rice caretaker for the rest of the season (when he is about to retire) or quickly hiring in someone readily available. I do not think great managers are going to rush to a club showing itself to be in crisis by firing it's best ever manager. really, there's no point restarting this 'wenger out' tosh until the end of the season.

Oleg Maputo

Agree11 Disagree3

I am a big Wenger supporter but tbh, maybe it is time for him to move upstairs - perhaps he's taken us as far as he can, give him credit but don't let the team suffer. We need new players - Arshavin, Djourou, Walcott are not good enough. Mertesacker was not the best option! Yes, we have injuries but so do other teams. Yes, we lack money - maybe Kroenke needs to come up with some or move over for the Russian shareholder. Alternative? We end up having to be satisfied with 5th or 6th...oh, yes, until some trillionaire decides to finance Sheffield United or Doncaster or MK dons and we slip to 7th , 8th or.... Sad truth is that it's a business now and not a sport and our owners don't seem to have grasped that fact.

Agree11 Disagree1

If a manager can't see what many fans can see, then he is either stubborn, has lost the plot or doesn't care at all about the club. Anyone who cares would do what is good for the club. I could see at half time that something needs to be done. Theo tried, BUT flattered to deceive, you would think that Dyer and Sinclair were the England internationals. Arshavin... enough said. Ramsey was awful.

Agree8 Disagree2

Yes, It makes one wonder just how far down the EPL table Arsenal will be allowed to slide before something is done. We are so far behind the top 4 now and with the present Board/Manager/Team it's not going to get any better.
Having two billionaire owners is doing us no good whatsoever and it needs sorting out.
Personally I don't care which one it is but one of them needs to take control and take the club forward.
Waiting for UEFA to change the rules on financial regulations is a compete waste on time. They are not going to be able bring all the european super powers into line. It will be the signal for them all to break away to form a European super league.
So If the club is going to be considered as one of the EPL's elite teams, (never mind one of Europe's). We need invetsment.

Agree7 Disagree1

Oleg... there is never a good time to get rid of Wenger is there. Judge him in May. May comes, then it becomes, 'lets see what he does in the transfer window', then it's ''there is no point in getting rid of manager after just a few games, give him a chance'. Followed by 'sack a manager in December, are you crazy? judge him in May'.

Same crap for the last few years.

Agree8 Disagree1

Wenger can leave whenever he likes I believe he is stuck in his way and we will not win anything under him. Come on we think we are barcelona and we have not got the players who can do that. The only thing I can give to wenger is that we havd so many injuries but it shows we do not have the squad and before anyone trash my opinions, listen we could have gone into the market last summer for some players but we kept trying to get the player on the cheap and then bang we either lose out or the player says he rather stay in their club. Either arsene changes his policy or go upstairs and get a younger manager it does not have to be Guardiola. I do not care anymore.

Agree8 Disagree0

Maybe AW want to get the players but has been told he is not aloud just food for thoght do you realy think AW would want Arsenal like this after all he has done for the club maybe its not all down to him
I remember an interview in the summer with him when he said about how loyal he is to this club and that one day you will find out maybe he was hinting about the board
Rainham Gunner

Agree4 Disagree2

Guys, I think it is time for a change but unsure if it is Wenger that needs to go. Something is a miss with the board and as stated previous by someone the board are happy with finishing 4th/5th or 6th. IMO the board is what needs changing. People like David Dein need to return to the club as that man was the master with Wenger. When Mr Dein went Arsene no longer had the support he required. Mr Dein is probably never going to come back so the option is for Arsene to go upstairs in the Dein role where he'll support the new manager and the team would start to change. I personally believe this is our only way forward.

Absolutely Shocking, and that's being kind.

After seasons of not investing we must have some money in reserve. Let's say we had £50M.

Ins:
Gotze/Hazard £30M or Gourcuff £14m
Abidal £5M
Samba £7M
Henry £7M

Out:
Arshavin £8m
Squillaci £3m

Ins: £44m/£28m
Out: £11m
Total: £33m/£17m

Believable10 Unbelievable8

You think it's as easy as that? Just to spend millions of pounds!

We need 4/5 players,but won't get any!
So much dead wood and poor players.
Give up on Walcott, Arshavin and Ramsey

FAB

Believable12 Unbelievable10

That's a bit harsh on ramsey

Agree12 Disagree6

Arshavin yes, walcott and ramsey what are you on?

Agree6 Disagree5

On Ramsey? do you have something wrong with your head FAB?

Some of the s**t people put on here is shocking at times so dumb

Agree9 Disagree4

Dont be a fool we need two players our team is very good when everyone is fit we just do not have the cover we need a striker and a midfilder to push the others for a place and step up when we need them
The players you mentioned are not the dead wood we need to keep them and get them in form there is a lot more obvious players that are dead wood than them the only one I would think about getting rid of is Ashavin if he dose not find some form soon

Agree7 Disagree2

When did Ramsey last dominate a game or actually have a decent game?

Agree9 Disagree7

Above post was by Rainham gunner forgot to leave my name sorry

Agree1 Disagree0

Walcott and arshavin were instrumental in creating 2 goals at the Liberty Stadium - no team has done that this season. the problems were defensive. you really need to get a grip and not jump to obscene absolute conclusions when a smaller problem affects our team. Want to know what happens when you buy half a 1st-team? Look at Liverpool.

Oleg Maputo

Agree3 Disagree6

What does Ramsey bring?
Please tell me

Agree4 Disagree3

So you think Ramsey is good enough for Arsenal?
What is he good at?

FAB

Agree7 Disagree4

Not being a fool or talking dumb, just my opinion.
Ramsey is poor most weeks and gives the ball away far too much IMO
Walcott has not improved in 4/5 years...FACT

FAB

Agree9 Disagree4

They have improved so what are you on?

You know what happens when you don't spend decent money?

You end up like Leeds!!

I'm not saying spend 35m on Carroll..i'm saying spend 35m on Gotze or Hazard! MASSIVE difference to a team.

Spend 8m on Cissokho or 15m on Baines. too. They money IS there. That's why people are frustrated.

We all know Wenger could spend that money a hell of a lot better than Redknapp, Dalglish or Andre Villas-Boas. So why doesn't he? That's the problem!

StEvE

Agree7 Disagree1

Ramsey is overrated and Walcott is average

Agree8 Disagree1

I agree with Fab, Ramsey not great this season.

Agree8 Disagree2

Ramsey was responsible for the penalty and the second goal after giving away possession needlessly as he always does. Check how many times Ramsey lost possession. The midfield was a weak link before Rosicky came on.

P gunner

Agree3 Disagree0

We cannot buy as our squad is too big Wenger's hands are tied agree we need to offload dead wood but who will take them, Dark times ahead

Agree4 Disagree0

Ramsey has been one of are best players this season , ive read some crap on here but this is the daftest yet! 1 bad game but then nobody else was much better!

Agree2 Disagree7

Walcott has been shocking doesnt have a clue what to do with the ball.get rid of him arshavin, chamakh, squillaci and get in 4 replacements, they are out there hoilet and sessengon have been miles better than walcott and for much lesser teams.ship chamakh and try get someone like a soldado or a remy we rely on rvp way to much.dont need to comment on squillaci

Is there a chane of arsenal reviving their interest in yann m'vila ed?? {Ed002's Note - Inter, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, Genoa and perhaps Liverpool & Chelsea showed an interest or enquired about M'Vila this past summer. M'Vila will almost certainly not move until the summer. A very significant bid from Manchester City has already been turned down. With that offer that was made for M'Vila in the summer Rennes have upped their valuation of the player to an extent where Creachcadec has said no Italian team can aford M'Vila. I would expect that there may be interest in him from PSG, Barcelona and possibly Real Madrid by the time he comes up for sale in the summer. I would be astonished if M'Vila moved in January, but his agent is telling clubs that there is a clause in his contract that can invoke a release for a single 20M euro payment to Rennes and then he is looking to negotiate a signing on fee as well.}
