We are reportedly after PSG left back Layvin Kurzawa, possibly on a free. Is he any good?

According to Ornstein Arsenal are in advanced talks with PSG for Kurzawa. Arsenal hoping that a deal can be secured this month for free with his contract expring in the summer. Mustafi will be kept at least until the summer due to lack of options and a LB being prioritised in this window. Not a bad bit of business if we do get him for free 👌🏻.

I think Mustafi is a reasonable backup for the RB slot. He might get some minutes this season to give Luiz/ Papa some rest. I wonder what we'll do with 3 senior LBs at the club though? Kurzawa, Tierney and Kolasinac are all probably expecting starts. I've been impressed with Kola since Arteta arrived, must say.

Kurwaza can play further forward, which may appeal once both existing LB’s are fit. Alternatively perhaps long term Arteta may decide to go 4-3-3 and he could be on the left of the midfield 3 or he doesn’t rate one of the two other LB’s and will sell one in the summer.

I agree Wire mate 3 into 1 doesn't go so if he arrives Kol must be off in the summer or Tierney is being seen as a bit part player because of his injuries.

Napoli have expressed interest in Kolasinac by all accounts and even though he has been playing well under Arteta, there is no doubt that he's injury prone. He will move on and KT and Kurzawa will fill that void. I wouldn't expect him to play in a more advanced role with Martinelli, Saka and Auba all playing out on the left (Auba may leave as we know) . Nelson and Pepe on right and Laca and Nketiah through the middle. Personally I still want to see a tall and strong centre midfielder brought in to the club which I have wanted for years.

The beast of North London would be a most welcome addition Glen, Eamauel Petit was a CB before being transformed into our and Frances midfield beast and went on to win the double with us and world cup euros double with France.
If we can't find ready made it might be worth looking to transform someone we already have or buy cheap and transform an average CB into an excellent DM beast.

We have a problem with our full backs, with the exception of Tierney they have little defensive ability. Hence, next season I expect the LB's to be Tierney and Kurwaza (assuming we manage to sign him) . I have a feeling Arteta may well sell Bellerin in the summer window and bring in a RB with defensive ability. Whether he retains Maitland-Niles will also be interesting.

I rated Kurzawa when he first moved to PSG, but I haven't seen him in some time, how's his form been?

Apparently he's prepared to move now in order to play football rather than wait until the summer when he could probably negotiate a much betrer financial package for himself, so that's a good sign.
I just hope if he comes it's because Artetta really wants him and sees a real benefit in having over the next 5 years or so rather than just taking him because he's available for nothing or worse still because Edu and Raul have chosen him.
If he's a genuine Arteta target and signing happy days but we really don't need yet another player to come in and struggle.
As a club we really need some non Sven successful signings rather than more of those who were signed before and since Svens brief Arsenal stay.
Transfer success record is awful and has been for far too long.

Are arsenal interested in a Brazilian midfielder can’t remember his name, cheers ed.

{Ed002's Note - I assume you mean Bruno Guimaraes (DM/CM) Shakhtar Donetsk have been in discussions with the representative of the player (who they have a close relationship to) and Athletico Paranaense but the asking price is proving to be a major stumbling block. Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Atletico Madrid (who have a tentative agreement), Chelsea, Arsenal, Marseille (as a Gustavo replacement) and Kashima Antlers (who are completely out of the picture) have also a declared interest. Chelsea have discussed taking the player in 2020 with his club but there is a problem that Athletico Paranaense only want to sell 80% of his economic rights - which takes Chelsea and Arsenal out of the picture.

Benfica reached agreement to buy him but there was an issue over cost at the last moment (pen in hand). That has now been resolved and Befica have been given a lower cost. In the meantime, Arsenal have returned to say they want him again - but they would have to have AP agree, and then have to pay an increased price.}

Ed would he be a replacement for Granit Xhaka.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Potentially Arsenal could let Elneny and Xhaka go if they could bring him in.}

16 Jan 2020 15:57:18
ED, do you think Arteta’s prime targets will be players that aren’t cup tied. Only my personal opinion here but Europe you’d think is a priority with the likelihood of us getting top 4 a stretch to put it lightly.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, it will make no difference to him. He needs to try and improve the team with little or no funds. The problems at Arsenal are not improving right now and the stupidity of last summer and the ridiculous structure will continue to bite them on the ass.}

16 Jan 2020 16:36:03
Did we only buy 75% of Pepe as his only got one foot?

We paid twice his value SY because we'd be lucky to half his fee back I'd we wanted to sell him right now.
Maybe he Tierney and will all come good and prove to be bargains but so far they both look like really expensive reaction buys.

Don’t disagree - Lemar at €60m would have been better

It was a joke about how one fitted he is.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2020 06:49:17
The problem is would Lemar have joined us last summer?
We weren't exactly an attractive proposition for anyone with decent options under Emery with our concede chances for fun mentality, how the first half of the season has played out hasn't exactly stunned football, I think many people totally expected it.

Hi Eds,
Is there any concrete interest in Bruno Guimaraes?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal are interested again after a move to Benfica fell through at the last minute (pen in hand).}
