Don't know mate, there have been some disappointing yet sensible points about waiting to see if we qual for champs league etc....I can see why potential signings want to make sure we have before signing with us. We just have to do our thing at Udi and see what happens. It is like a crack addiction trying to unearth who'd coming in though oh my word.

Agreed. It's speculation, so the poster is entitled to ask for any kind of confirmation. If indeed he is going on loan, then it surely means a defensive signing is inevitable.

I don't understand why all of a sudden most people seem to want Zarate to join. Yes he is a striker, and yes he is probably better than Chamakh. But his scoring record is not very good. He has averaged about 1 goal in 4 games for every club he has played at (other than Al-Sadd in the Qatari League [4 in 6]). This isn't any better than Chamakh's and he is only 5"7'. Don't we have enough small players in the squad? At least when Chamakh is playing (awfully) he can head the ball.

I feel terrible for poor old Chamahk, when he was playing well I saw how good a player he could have become, and he infact was my favourite new signed player

The fact is he has person troubles that are ruining his attitude and his form (allegedly being blackmailed by the 3 Swedish slags he shagged whilst in Vegas) and this is the reason he is so crap at the moment.

If he can sort this out I fully expect him to become a first team regular as he looked to do before this awful stuff came out...

I'm surprised people are so quick to judge the guy - everybody makes mistakes and he went from practically nothing to an Arsenal star over night - happens to a lot of young guys who suddenly hit the big time ... They make mistakes.

Let's at least give him this season before we judge - He is still our player after all, and we don't want our players to feel intimidated by us ... I think we should FULLY support the lad, he did well for us and needs the club and fans to get behind him.

Admittedly he cannot play until this is resolved but I don't see him leaving us until at least the start of the next season, and that is IF he cannot rediscover his form and goalscoring

Well said. Everyone slated him for the other day but he looked better than he has all pre-season. He needs time and faith and he'l get back to his best.

People see the nice alloys on the bandwagon and it's all downhill from there, that's why. I couldn't care less if we don't sign Mata, Zarate, and a whole bunch of others. Mata was cr4p against Liverpool.

Funniest is when people are like "Ed, I've worked it out, I know who we need in the squad - Zarate" (or Jadson or whoever) as though they've had this random epiphany after hours of scouting, when's it's blatantly because they saw the name on here .

Possibly, it doesn't always mean that.
It could mean the complete opposite.
Arsenal are favourites to sign Samba and Dann, it doesn't mean that we will get them.

I fear that he will end up at Liverpool, as Arsenal are classics at always leading the interest but never following it all the way thru.............

Arsenal will sign Metersacker, the deal will be concluded tmro.
TV5 will play at ledt back whilst Gibbs is injured.
Wenger will only sign another left back if he can get the right price.

Armand Traore is apparently heading to QPR on loan. This seems strange as Gibbs is out injured. We have no LBs available now, unless a defensive signing is on the horizon...Here's hoping it's Vertonghen/Baines/Cissoko..

You seemed spot on with the Nasri news yesterday, so hoping your sources may have said something to you.... I'm getting very concerned now, but with less that 2 weeks of the window left, we are so much weaker than last season, despite having obvious areas where we need strenghtening.

Do you really believe that Wenger/board are working hard behind the scenes. or are we going to be tuning into sky sports news till midnight on deadline day waiting for a last minute gem?

In my opinion, we need a back up centre half (happy with kos and TV5), a creative centre midfielder and a second striker to compliment RVP.

Anyway, Got some news that will cheer a lot of you up. News coming out of the Emirates is that deals have been tied up with Gignac and Diego but both are waiting until we qualify for the CL to dot the I's and cross the T's.

Dann and Valbuena will come in by Wednesday of next week. Wenger is also trying to sign Joel Matip of Shalke. Very Wenger type signing, can play CDM, CM, CB, LB, RB. 20 years old, cheap and very promising. Price will be around 6 million.

I really wanted more English in our team but a 6'6 German international CB would be a massive boost, might be slow but with all the other attributes he brings to the table outweigh the lack of pace.

I don't think he would cope with the pace of the English game the season has started wenger should have made first team signings

Would add experience, height, strength in depth, not break the bank, proven international (so could be perfectly suited to English game) at worst far better than Squillaci. I would be very happy to see him come in.

has dropped down the germany pecking order and hasn't really improved over the last few years as expected... they are skint and want to off load...a good price ? Yeah, but a reason for it- no better than kos and certainly not tv5.

in set pieces we would be yeah great- but open play pulling our hair out as pl attackers are all over him, too slow and unresponsive for pl- this is reality versus football manager, etc....

I would rather have Mata. Although I would love either to move to us. I believe that AW is not worried and any potential signings have been lined up. He is allowing the situation to develop (CL, Fabregas, Nasri, etc) before making the ultimate decision and getting out his cheque book. His plans will become clear in the next 2 weeks.
In the meantime we will continue to be linked to every world class player going.

Hazard, simply due to him being stronger on the ball and having the ability to become one of the world's best. that being said mata apparently has a far better attitude and work ethic.

Both we NEED the midfielders when i watched the game on tuesday thy tried to play arsenal's style of football but didn't have the talent on the park to play like that. IT WAS HARD TO WATCH

Hazard hands down. TV5 will help him adjust aswell and we got rid of any Spanish speakers this year and I think settling a player early is really important but that's just me I guess.

p.s. Mata is a better team player but Hazard is much more dangerous....difficult to decide who would be more effective. I think the Mata deal is dead and Ryo Miyaichi is a very similar player to Hazard so I'm not sure if Wenger will want the two. On a personal note I LOVE the thought of Hazard and Ryodinho both playing on the left and right of our attack. if Hazard was to come, don't expect a deal to be announced until after the 2nd leg Udinese game IF Arsenal qualify. Hazard is already garanteed Champions League football at Lille this season so if Arsenal don't qualify he definitely won't come. seems Lille are open to selling him as well.

Id like both. But ill be amazed to see either.

We need Baines. FACT. Gibbs is injury prone and Traore is inexperienced. Who remembers last seasons FA Cup game between Everton and Chelsea? Baines was brilliant. Sign him now

I agree but another option is putting vermealen LB and getting cahill maybe getting another cb like mertesacker, samba, dann [although i'm not sure any are good enough] or starting koscielny [can't beleive i'm saying this might not be that bad].

COBBLERS-GOONER...... I cant believe you said starting Kos either. Baines would be a great signing in my books, and we still could do with a Cahill or Mertesacker(spelling sorry)...... TV5 can cover LB, but he is too valuable in CD, and Kos... well, i just cannot say anything

I'd love to see Baines at Arsenal , but I can't see Everton selling, They Demanded 18m for Jagielka so they would want at least 20 m for Baines and Wenger aint gunna spend that amount on a LB when he would hault the progress of Gibbs

Yeah don't see LB coming in. Other matters may be more pressing and agree Wenger will want to keep Gibbs as first choice. But Baines could make a huge impact on the team.

At the moment it looks like the players trust Sagna down the right but don't feel comfortable passing out to the left and keeping possession high up the pitch on that side. Baines would make us a real threat on both sides.

Wenger & the BOD have made a total pigs ear of this summer. Everyone in football knew Fab & Nasri would be leaving. Every team will now be hiking their valuations up because we are now desperate & have left it far too late. I respect Wenger for his achievements, but sadly he now lives in a bubble.

I agree with you, with Liverpool on Saturday, CL on Wednesday then Manchester next weekend, I don't think the squad is no way good enough at the moment to win the 3 games...GAZ

I have been worried all summer at the lack of urgency shown by Arsene and the board. There is every chance that the league will be beyond us by next weekend and we will be out of the Champions League too. We constantly dither with negotiations and in the end our targets go elsewhere. It is a pathetic situation and Arsene Wenger is bringing the club to it's knees. Sad to say it, but there are going to be plenty of empty seats at the Emirates this season. still, on the bright side, Thursday night Channel 5 will be good

Imo we won't sign any new players till after Wednesday when we will find out if were in or out the cl.

There is talk about our interest in per mertesacker. Around 5 - 9 mill for him.

Not a rumour just my humble opinion

When i look our squad (minus the already out the door Nasri) i see a squad no stronger than Bolton or Everton, that level of squad wont be challenging for the league and will will only be putting silverware on the shelve with an early knockout of the champ league and a good run in the FA or League cup

We MUST do a City and overhaul and re-invest in the sqaud, not with kids with great futures but with proven, exprienced, leading and driven players who are hungry to push an ailing team back up tp the highest levels

Here are my wishes and suggested targets
Cahill PL proven and developing into future england regular
Hazard exciting talent with couple of first team seasons of league football under his belt
Mata already a national level cup winner and ready to take the challenge of the PL
Parker not as young as AW would like but in form of his life in a influential position that we need influence in

AW must rebuild a team with instant impact just to maintain our 3/4th position level

If we do a 'City', we'll be doing a 'Leeds' three years later.

You shouldn't spend money you haven't got.

Not got? Both our major shareholders are billionaires - one of them has repeatedly offered to put money in and been refused by the board. Also spending money that is available and been earmarked for transfers (instead of hoarding it scrooge fashion) is not "doing a leeds"

The major difference with us and leeds would actually be the thing thats holding some signings and movements back, Wenger and the Boardroom staff would make sure the profit margins were still good, our laready healthy finances and profit protection methods would never allow us to drop out the PL, I truely beleievce, a 65m overhaul with a cache of driven players and a leader will grab our team by the balls and drag us back up to title challenging, at the current status quo we stand a better chance of slipping down the pile and if this gaping wound of a status is not plugged and remidied we may be looking at relegation fights in two or three yeras

No stronger than everton or bolton? look at RVP, Wilshere, Vermaelen, Sagna etc, we still have the backbone of a top team. and our worst players are, at worst, mediocre - everton and bolton both have plenty of players like chamakh and squillaci. i agree that we need a few more signings but the depth of cynicism of some people borders on stupidity.

i too am a frustrated arsenal fan, but lets actually think critically about what we need rather than make these crass statements. we still have top players and are 2/3 away from a team that can go into this campaign confidently. maybe with 1/2 reinforcements in jan if needed.

a complete overhaul would sacrifice team shape and give out a signal that we are in chaos. we are not like city - we have tradition and style so we do not need to buy a new team every few years.

Your right we do need a overhaul to bring players and refresh the squad ,BUT NOT DO A CITY, i hate city i mean why would you support them other than being a glory hunter or a local, Look at the attitude of the club, sign players with talent that never play Like Milner, Wright phillips, santa cruz, lescott and others not signed like Richards and onhua. Some of these players 3 or 4 years ago were big names with a massive potential, wrecked By Manchester city, the greedy must have it all team that leave out players after one bad game.
At Arsenal we develop players into some of the biggest names in football ,example, Theirry Henry, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Jack wilshere the list is endless, a team that develops young talent to be world beaters and yes we do go over the Top with the young Players and it is time to get the wallet out and buy some proven players, but not paying over the top like City and Chelsea do for someone who might not start every week [Torres].
Arsenal is a special club maybe the tickets are over priced for a football match but I'd rather pay to watch exiting Arsenal that never Fails to show home grown talent and polished Gold unearthed from Smaller clubs than watch City and Chelsea that rely on money and other clubs to source talent. In my opinion that makes Arsenal one of the greatest clubs in the World, Maybe not on performance alone but the unique attitude, patience and professionalism that keeps in contention for the league and champions league every year and Never to have been relagated and for the money we invest in players to stay up there just shows how awsome we are.What do you think ED

Couldn't agree more - and all summer I have been wanting Chamakh to make the second half of last season be a "blip", but his touch against Udinese was appalling. OK, it's one game, but he really doesn't look likely. I'd settle for Cahill and Vertonghen, though realistically we could but only hope for one of those (Vertonghen, PLEASE), I've never even seen MMM play but he seems to be a popular choice on here, Hazard would be tops - why no Arsharvin on Tuesday, is he off to the new unpronouncable club in Ruski - and Higuain seems at least more likely than the much touted Benzema. I'd still prefer Benzema on two counts - (a) I think he's "better" (Higuain is hardly "poor") and two he's French so asdie from PSG, there's no-one to lure him back "home" a la Cesc). I'd still say two defenders, but make my wish-list: Vertonghen, Baines, Martin, Hazard, Higuain. Guesstimated costs: £16m, £16m, £12m, £24m and £25m, totalling £97m (I'm being generous, but have you seen the rate of inflation?) against money in of £35m Cesc, £22m Cheeses of Nasri, £7m Clichy, £3m Eboue, £8m(?) Bendtner, £10m Arsharvin, which would give a net spend including Gervinho, Jenkisnon and Oxbow-Lake of £38m. It's a lot - and of course stertches credulity - but £38m at todays prices to bring in a total of eight players is a pretty good spend. Anybody else excited about Frimpong? He may not yet be the real deal, but he doesn't look lightweight, can put himself about and I don't have concerns about him stepping in for Song for the next three games -as long as he can stay on the pitch looks a bit frisky and impetuous, but I think a midfield of Frimpong, Ramsey and Wilshire with Hazard left, Gervinho or Walcott right and RVP or Higuain up front is a bit special. Needs some years perhaps, but it has yoof and pace. Still we'd have Oxbow-Lake and Miyaichi. Back four of Sagna, TV, Vertonghen and Baines, backed by Jenkinson and Kos, Gibbs and (if we have to) Djourou. Kepper, no-brainer. KEEP THE FAITH IN ARSENE, especially if by some miracle he does all the above Max Farnham.

Mirrorfootball reporting that chelski have made a £20m bid for Mata. Also reporting AW will wait til the end of the transfer window before going for Cahill. AW trying to reduce cost. Nasri also had medical at Citeh and that Spurs are interested in Adebayor.

I know everybody is desperate for a cb but I feel we need a cm and a cf as badly as we need a cb
Take away wilshere and ramsey - who do we have for cm? (Song and frimpong are dm, rosicky isn't good enough in there and nor is diaby, nasri is pretty much gone)

This might b stating the obvious, but our struggle to win some games were because we weren't finishing teams off when on top as much as it was defensive mistakes.

This is where people go mad but I'd take someone like defoe as my top choice, a clinical finisher in and around the 18 yeard box ...

Completely agree with you mate As frustrating as it is with the lack of transfers, I honestly think Wenger will pull of at least 4 between now and the end of the window Cahill is a MUST. Defo agree on new CM's because we're really lacking some at the moment and if injurys continue then we're f*****.

I agree that Defoe would be a great signing man, he's ageing but his experience and technique would be great to have upfront. He can't be happy playing at spuds and I think he'd love to have the chance to play along with RVP upfront... spuds needing to sell in order to spend may help this cause aswell.... however would they really sell to us?

No matter what happens, I PRAY that wenger will atleast sign some players. I dont want to jinx anything but what a dissapointment and real lack of intent if he doesn't. Expecially with the board selling 2 of our best players (If nasri does go - I hope he stays but looks like he's gone) and increasing the ticket prices

I'm not as down on Rosicky as everyone else seems to be. If he stays healthy, he'll be great.
