Ed,
It's being reported that Arsenal have shown interest in Alex Song. Are you aware of any approach for him by Arsenal, or is the report just guesswork, as we are looking for DM an he has been made available.

The speed of Song's transfer to Barcelona must have set some sort of record:- either he was desperate to join what he repeatedly described as " the best club in the world" or Wenger was only too happy to accept what seemed to be an opening offer of £11million, with little or no haggling. Even in the days of Fabregas, Van Persie and Nasri Song always seemed to consider himself as one of the stars in the team, a position not many fans acknowledged.
Yes we need a DM, but not this one who has too much baggage.

I seem to recall that Song had an attitude problem whilst at Arsenal, often late for training. I think there is zero chance of us signing him.

I think if we qualify for CL, then Khedira will be on his way. If however we don't then Wenger would probably go for Song.

Hi Eds,

Great job with the page and the stuff you come up with! I have two questions, which I hope you will be able to answer.
1. Can you confirm if we are still in for a striker or only Center Half and a Defensive Mid?

2. I read somewhere that we are waiting to assure a CL group stage position and then look for a striker. Any truth in that?

{Ed002's Note - (1) Arsenal would like to add a forward still. (2) It sounds like supposition based on a viewpoint that more players would be interested if Arsenal were confirmed in the CL. Talking occasionally to someone associated with the club, it seems that the club are looking at options regardless of this. If the right player comes available for the right money, and the club and player can persuade each other it is a good deal for both, then something can be done. I would not expect Arsenal to buy just for the sake of it.}

Eds with Manolas edging closer to join us, that secures the cb positions for us. So was wondering what the latest is about our defensive midfield targets. Has new names come up, have we held recent talks with teams, players, agents, etc? Thanxxxx

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed as far as I know. There is interest in Khedira from Arsenal & others, and there should be some news on him by Friday. Schneiderlin is probably not an option now. As an aside, do not be surprised if a loan is arranged for Bernard by Arsenal or Spurs.}

Im not really happy with the transfer window, as we have not really addressed our problem positions.

however considering the market madness where Vermalen went to barca for 15 mill, in the reverse situation we would not pay 5 mill for him, it just goes to show some clubs have a mighty financial arm to take such gambles while clubs like Arsenal have to carefully plan to spend their money as they don't generate as much.

Im sure wenger is thinking of a DM.

Arteta, Flamini, Coquelin, Diaby are all in the last year of their contracts. So a move for a DM or headway into signing one in January or the next season should be a priority.

I guess with the possibility of signing Manolas means that we have somehow addressed the depth at CB with Chambers being an able deputy. Its left to see how good Manolas actually is.

while the RB position does have debucy and chambers and even bellerin if necessary, our next problem position looks like its LB, with gibbs barely able to play 2 games at a stretch, and monreal being less than impressive.

Im also glad we are not giving contract extensions at this moment. quite a few players need to prove themselves.

just hoping we sign a DM now if Manolas is being currently signed up behind the scenes.
