Modric and Bale to Arsenal, both players looking for champions league football

This is a bittersweet moment. Spuds booted out - players to leave, etc.... But Chelsea champions of Europe.

If we are impartial spurs are a good group of players at a club that has been. Well managed financially.

Chelsea are a Russian oligarchs group of thugs with buckets full of cash.

Between man city, the mega spending real Madrid, PSG set to dominate France for years (even if they don't win this year) - football is slowly turning it to a joke.

Not about passion, unity and drive- its about cash...

I think I'm going to echo what a lot of posters here are saying anyway but what the hell.

RvP maybe using his contract situation as a way to force Arsenal to spend and spend big in the summer. Yes, Financial Fair Play is looming; but you could drive a truck through the holes that FFP has. A club like Arsenal, with the financial model it has *and* the loopholes that FFP has could easily go on a spending binge for This summer (possibly next as well) and by the time FFP kicks in, Arsenal will still be run within its self-imposed constraints. All the while having world-class players in the starting XI AND developing from within.

If Arsenal still stick to their guns and don't spend big as the season closes in he'll leave. If they *do* get 3 or 4 world-class players at vital positions he'll stay.

Believable21 Unbelievable5

What a lovely thought, but Wenger doesn't do spending binges.

Anyone else think we'll just promote Martinez and Shea as backup to Sir Ches?

With Almunia, Flappy and Mannone all likely leaving I'd say we need a new GK however if he does just promote Martinez I wouldn't particularly be disappointed. The kid could do what Sir Ches has done and he has already been in the Argentina squad, so he must have something.

Thoughts?

Believable22 Unbelievable6

These are insane words.
we need chez to have competition not a couple of young kids who hardly had any loan time out nor successful stints too.
we need good steady experience alongside chez.

Agree0 Disagree0

I fink martinez will be promoted but not shea

Agree0 Disagree0

"These are insane words"

I said we need a new GK however I can see Wenger just promoting from within.

Hardly insane words.

Who Actually Watches Huntelaa Often? He's The Same Age As Rvp, He Cant Dribble To Save His Life And He Is Slow So What Tells You Hell Suit Our Style.

Believable13 Unbelievable8

Well, he is a dutch international, very good in the air, holds the ball up well and a clinical finisher.

Agree0 Disagree0

Capslock mate you're bang on, like I say he's this season's Darren Bent - he knows where to be but he looks no better than a championship player. I have watched him about 7 times and even when he's got goals I have not been one bit convinced he could do a job for us...we need Agueros and Neymars not Huntelaars and Holtbys

Agree0 Disagree0

Rvp is slow....but still scores.
huntelaar is slow....but still score
when you have the pace on the wings like we have you dont need to be fast

Agree0 Disagree0

I Know Rvp Is Slow I Watch Him Every Week But His Ball Skills Make Up For It But Imagine Someone Who Is Naturally Slow But Trying To Dribble Too.

Agree0 Disagree0

You mean aaron ramsey ?

Agree0 Disagree0

He has great positioning has an unreal finish, his hold up play is good and he can head the ball so what if he can't dribble that's Theos and Poldolskis job.

Galway goonner

Agree0 Disagree0

For anyone doubting huntelaar in a fluid system, remember he came from ajax the pioneer of that very system which barcelona and arsenal play. Thank you.

Goodbye then RVP. He will follow the escape committee to City this summer. He is not going to turn down £70k a week to stay and fight for 3rd, that's £3.5m a year!

We'll spend too long trying to keep him, just like Cesc and Nasri, fighting a fight already lost. What's worse instead of looking strong and decisive we will look weak and uncertain again. Not only loosing all our best players but worse losing status and confidence, sending all the wrong messages.

The hope? Sadly sell him quick, and off load Chamakh, Arshavin, Bendtner, Denilson, Vela, Diaby, Squillaci, Park, Fabianski, Lansbury, and Mertesacker. Wow now that would be a decisive clear out.

In? Cisse, Podolski, Sturridge, M'Vila, Yanga-Mbiwa, and Vertonghen. You are looking at needing a GK as cover too, but post RVP a side that would press for trophies.

Chances of it happening? Zero.

Believable17 Unbelievable22

You have little idea if you think Mertersacker should b sold. U do realise he is the starting CB for Germany?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats a load of crap...for u football must be a one man show...sadly..m8 u need to realise dat persie scores only wen he gets a good lob/pass/cross...seldom u get to see him taking on defenders, like ronaldo n neymar...plus apart frm this season i cant recall last seeing persie playing an entire season!
u got a real pessimistic attitude!
y sell mertesacker and arshavin?

we jst couple of signings to bloster our squad...i say, if rvp wants to leave den make most out of it...sell him to city and get dzeko + cash!
bring in M'vila + van der weil + eriksen...plus hoilett
dis will make us title contenders.

Agree0 Disagree0

He isn't actually, he was though before this season though. I'm not saying he is a bad player just too slow and not strong enough for the Premier league - think Campbell, Gallas, Adams, Toure, Keown, Koscielny, Bould, and Vermailen - are you really saying Mertesacker is in that class now?
No one denies he was in the seasons before he came to us, but he was already slowing down as any German fan will tell you.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see RVP leaving... Why would he wanna!?!

RVP is a player who wants to play football, not interested in big paydays... At any of Man City, RM or Barca; he will only be sitting on the bench and will not be as good as a player as he is at Arsenal... Also he is captain at the Gunners, and is brilliant at it. Plus he will put his family first, and they are happy in London so why would he move...

What Arsenal Offer:
Captaincy
Decent Money
A starting place every game
Fantastic team spirit and beautiful football
Contention for trophies (yes we haven't won anything in a while but we are still there)
Champions League Football Every Season
The feeling of Home

What City, Barca, RM Offer:
Unrealistic amount of money
A sit on the bench and substitute appearances
Trophies (and a medal maybe if he plays enough games)
A new and unfamiliar style of football that won't suit RVP

This shows that RVP will be a fool to leave Arsenal, especially as Wenger has stood by him for so long, when he had his injuries

Agree0 Disagree0

Arshavin must go, just too lazy and doesnt even perform for the team he supports! Mertesacker must be kept, he will help podolski settle much quicker, and yeah, RVP should be cashed in on, lets face it one tough tackle and hes out for 3 months, we have been lucky this season. Personally i think the whole Yilmaz rumour is the most interesting, unbelievable goalscoring record, immense drive and workrate and has stated personally he wants to play for us all for 4 mil? Be rude not to really..

Agree0 Disagree0

Some people are so gullible. You do realize that it's only the english press making stuff up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is this the same mertersacker that every fan was preying for last summer who would fix our defense? just checking. how many of you were saying he was the key last summer, and is now saying he should be gone? my bet is a fair few of you

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I certainly wasn't praying for Mertesacker to come. If you read the German press he was slowing down a year ago. Too many have out of date views based on the last major tournament. Mertesacker was a class defender, just we bought him at the wrong time.

As for what can anybody else offer RVP? Well £5m more a year plus trophies at a guess. as for the media making it all up - you mean like Thierry, Vieira, Fabregas, Clichy, Cole, Nasri and anyone else class we once had?

RVP could stop all the noise if he wanted, but heisn't. Guess why? Shame as he has been great but one good season doesn't make it him irreplacble. What we cannot do is look weak - strong decisive action - control our destiny not be controlled.

Belhanda or giroud?
Lewandowski or kagawa?
M'villa or vertonghen?
Holtby or huntlaar (who's more realistic in this case)?
The clubs arent going to sell both or we aren't going to get players for same position
who would you pick and how would you fit them into the team as apart from Holtby all will want to be starters
Dan

Believable6 Unbelievable5

Giroud is more likely, as Belhanda just came out and said he wants to stay with Montpellier next season. Kagawa will go to Man u and cant see Lewandowski being sold. I would rather m'vila over vertonghen and much rather huntelaar over holtby.

Marty

Agree0 Disagree0

Good question mate. This is what worries me. We NEED some of those players and Arsenal are just so unlikely to put in an offer for two players that compliments their value that we will already be making bad decisions.

For me, it is Belhanda AND Giroud, nqa mate. We need them both, they have experience together and they are sick players. Arsenal shouldn't even be thinking twice about this, the only thing they should be thinking is how much do you want Montpellier? Because we need Giroud as we have all year, all last year, and because we need RVP's replacement be it now with a yr to settle or be it next summer or jan.

Then I would say Kagawa over Lewandowski as forwards would be done (Pod, Giroud, ACM). Also if we didn't get Belhanda. But Kagawa suits our style, I mean go watch the Bayern Dortmund highlights on footytube (5-2 to BVB) and look at Kagawa's display, he's ridiculous.

Then I would say M'Vila. Then I would say a new CB. I wouldn't take Holtby or Huntelaar tbh, Hotlby isn't good enough and Huntelaar is the Euro Darren Bent.

.................Szcz.................
Coq.......Kos......Verm..........?
............M'Vila...Wilsh............
......Ox......Kagawa...........Pod
......................Giroud...........

Sorry but that is an unreal team.

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO it should be:

Giroud / Lewandowski
Belhanda / Kagawa / Holtby
M'Vila / Vertonghen

Out of those, i'd have Giroud, Belhanda & M'Vila.

Ben X.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Ben X on this. To be honest if RVP stays - I would happily take just Belhanda and M'vila.

For me giroud is a nice to have. I would rather give miyachi / Joel Campbell some playing time for lesser matches.

Also everyone puts podolski on the left: this is the same as putting RVP on the left.

He can play there, but it is not his preferred position. So podolski is cover for RVP, NOT playing ahead of gervinho!

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

The left is not podolski's prefered position? he plays there for germany and has an outrageous scoring record for them playing out on the left, so yes he will definitelyu start over gervinho

Arsenal Outs
Chamakh - Bordeaux
Bendtner - Dortmund
Vela - Sociedad
Denilson
Squillaci - France
Almunia - Free
Fabianski
Park
Arshavin

Arsenal Ins
Sakho - PSG
Podolski - Done
Mcgregor - Rangers
M'Vila - Rennes
Hoilett - Free
Gourcuff/Martin - Lyon/Sochaux
Giroud - Montpellier
Belhanda (Maybe) - Montpellier

RM6 Gooner

Believable25 Unbelievable14

Sakho is a player of massive technical and leadership ability, but does he walk into our starting 11? Gourcuff is a crock and made only 13 appearances for Lyon this season (which is a shame, he had all the potential in the world and maybe still does). Giroud would only come if RvP leaves and even then Montepelliers asking price may be a stumbling block

Agree0 Disagree0

If we were lucky we would get circa £30m for the players you mention. Ground alone would cost circa £25m, add the others and you are looking at a guess at around £110m! Chances of us spending a net £85m is zero.

Agree0 Disagree0

Belhanda(belend) won't move

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with these apart from belhanda who won't come plus we won't spend the amount montpellier want for him, don't really think we need hoilett when we have walcott, gervinho, podolski, chamberlain, miyachi and we will only sign giroud if rvp leaves otherwise wenger won't spend that much on a player

alex song asking for 130k/week or he will leave..haha, i saw this coming, i said a few months ago that i thinks hes off just by his body language, he looked totally uncommitted after new year, he stopped celebrating goals and literally didnt give a f*** to do any defensive work at all and the fact that darren dein (the devil) became his new agent (the agent/representative of henry, adebayor, clichy, nasri, rvp and song).

Believable15 Unbelievable20

If this is true, well goodbye song. Not even close to being worth that...try half that.

Agree0 Disagree0

What club would offer song that? Couldn't care less either way, he's nothing special
AG

Agree0 Disagree0

Song is nothing special! Oh then who was our only midfielder other than Arteta with any talent? RVP will go, whatever you do not wish away the few others that have real talent. Song was after RVP along with Koscielny player of he season.

Agree0 Disagree0

130k/week? Really?

Well then: Goodbye Alex. Hello Yann.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've said this time and time again. Don't belive what you read in the press. It's complete turd.

Ben X.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont be mistaken for thinking m'vila will be on low wages when he changes club. A player that will cost 25 million to buy, wont be on 50k a week. Even Gary cahill is on more than that....bet he's glad he went to chelsea

Agree0 Disagree0

Kees vos is the agent for rvp not darren dein

Agree0 Disagree0

People here are believing the press, "British Press", who claims arsenal were forced into mvila deal because song is asking for a fortune. Yes we can afford a totally new world class player and his wages but we cannot afford an existing player's wages... Journo's record speak for themselves. Nothing more to say.

Idiotic ITK

Agree0 Disagree0

Song is the most attacking definsive midfielder in the premiership. Without him Arsenal would NOT have finished 3rd. I would gladly give him £100k considering we pay the likes of Djourou, Denilson and Bender £50-£60k. Also he has been our best player outside of RVP for around 3 years, even though he no longer defends

Agree0 Disagree0

Darren dein is part of Rvp as an agent and if songs is as well then history shows they are both gone as all his other clients before - the guy (Darren dein) is a cancer of the club

Latest Paper Talk Is Rvp Wages Demands Could Put Of Juve Madrid Barca And City How Can I Be The Only One That Sees It's All B's Also I've Heard That Arsenal Don't Want To Announce Any Signings Untill After The Euros Heard They Didnt Even Wanna Announce Podolski

Believable16 Unbelievable5

Because there is an Arsenal embargo on any loose talk from Van Persies camp the the papers are up to there normal tricks, making stories up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yup, RVP is a very expensive purchase, even for us the reported £5m signing fee, plus 3 seasons at £130,000 per week, makes a total cost of approx £25 million, for a player who will have little value at the end of his 3 season deal, when he will be entering his 33rd year. If a club, such as City, were to pay £25 million, plus say a 4 year deal at £250,000 per week, the total would be £77m, for an asset worth virtually nothing after 4 years. With the Financial regulations coming in, it makes little sense. As suggested RVP, may indeed price himself out of the market. The doomsday scenario is that he gets injured during the euros & runs down his contract, leaving on a free. Personally, I would take anything above £25 million, replace him with Olivier Giroud & we have Podolski.

Agree0 Disagree0

While I am nervous about RVP - I think this latest round of media speculation is frankly nonsense. At most this is the agent saying RVP wants 275 - with the goal of getting him 150+ area.

Billybob
