it has been revealed that arsenal were close to signing eden hazard. A fee of around 30m euros plus offered and was acceptable to lille but they did not want to sell because of the little time to find a replacement. We hope to go back for the player in january.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

I hope your right, I have a feeling we will get him in January. Arsenal have plenty of money still from transfers and can easily make a strong bid in Januray. Perhaps that is why we got Benyoun at short notice on the cheap as a stop gap until then.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is true but we have to act fast because if he puts on eye-catching performances in the CL other top clubs will definitely come in for him and we will have little or no chance of signing him. January is our last realistic chance of signing him.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest (i hope i am wrong) that wont be happening. Its just AFC refusing to pay the wages. Apparently even Arteta had to take a pay cut to join us. until we can start paying wages like the 'bigger' clubs (excluding mcfc) we have no chance

Agree0 Disagree0

If Arsene wants him he will get him. Its not as if Hazard would be requesting 180k per week wages. He is within our wage structure . Only thing i see is if Lille go through to d knockout stages of CL, they might be unwilling to sell again. I hope Arsene can pull this off. For now, lets get behind the players we have and hope for a good run. Liverpool will push us all the way in the top 4 thats why we still have to improve our squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh, why would we sign a cup-tied player in Jan (especially one that will be a key player)

i can see a deal being thrashed out in Jan for a summer signing (after Yossi's loan finishes)

Agree0 Disagree0

Your probably right,I think Arsenal were hoping that Hazard would put a transfer request in,and that would put the pressure on Lille to sell on the last day.But Lille and Hazard know that come January or next summer there will be bigger and better offers on the table from a lot of different clubs. So come on Wenger,Spend that Fabregas/Nasri money that you Haven't spent and make us great again.

Agree0 Disagree0

By the way hes played the first games, the valuation will go down! Would prefer Goetze or Muller.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont think its gonna happen. He is cup-tied. Same case as Chamakh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Might as well forget about him now, I am sure other clubs will start sniffing and as usual we will bow out so not to be involved in a bidding war........ shame really!!

Agree0 Disagree0

We signed arshavin when he was cup tied
and the reason why we didnt sign chamkh is because we got him for a free in june

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2011 21:37:51
Apparently Lille had agreed £28m bid for hazard from arsenal but it was too late to find a replacement for him if he left and he could weell join arsenal in January. Probably silly rumour: caughtoffside

Hopeful gunner

We should try and get "Alex" from fenerbache on a free.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Bit old for wenger, dont u think ?
BALLYBOY

Agree0 Disagree0

For free I don't think wenger would care... Alex is a beast.

Elia saying in a nutshell that our dallying cost us his signature apparently. Typical.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Exactly, IG and our front office who handle transfers are inept in every manner of the term. Thank god we have Arsene.

US Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Always something to complain about, Arsenal fans? I'd say we did pretty well yesterday, we didn't need him.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is disgraceful, i hope the french tv were paying wenger well.

"My agent did have contact with Arsenal, but it took too long. I had no contact with Arsene Wenger," Elia told www.onsoranje.nl. "Wigan, Everton, Fulham and Newcastle had fairly concrete interest.''

Agree0 Disagree0

So typical, sums up the whole window- both in's and out's. Not sure if it's down to wenger or IG ..?

Agree0 Disagree0

Two Or Third Post Unless You Want Arshavin Playing On The Left Ease Up

Agree0 Disagree0

He's a really inconsistent player, quick yes but not someone we need. Benayoun is a good stop gap, and can be replaced by a world class player in Hazard

Agree0 Disagree0

If he genuinley raised the point of not having contact with wenger as an issue, it subtley implies wenger still has pulling power, the PCYoung signing proves it really, on swift call from the man himself and he bailed on Lille.

Agree0 Disagree0

So basically the agent offered him to Arsenal but we didn't want him , that is the teams choice, so stop whining.

Agree0 Disagree0

Forget, move on!

Are there any chances of free transfers happening?

NottsGooner

Believable2 Unbelievable3

Lets hope we release Almunia

Choc sunhat (great job by the Ed's last night)

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes free agents can move anytime, although I dont think there is anyone decent out there that is worth it as a free agent. None spring to mind unless anybody knows different.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not really, only free agents can move now

TVOR

Agree0 Disagree0

Watch us sign sol campbell as back up again lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Too late for free agents, clubs have to submit 25 man squad to EPL and CL {Ed001's Note - you can still add free agents if you have space in the squad.}

Will people still be using this site, or do people only use it for the Transfer Window?

Ted

{Ed022's Note - You can still use it for banter, match day teams, rumours surrounding the club. I know the transfer window is a highlight but the site will still be running. Feel free to come on by...}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I'd miss this place. It's on my favourites, so I'll definitely be dropping by to see what's happening. :-)

great job to ed022 over the window, keep up th good work.

i do however hold your personally responsible for afc not signing MMM! ;) lol

bring on Swansea.

@ryan083

{Ed022's Note - I gave him the best nickname in football, I bigged him up all summer, told everyone who good he was, spoke to my mate Arsene but he wasn't having any of it! I did everything I could!}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ok then... i forgive you:)

We did actually come very close but took Arteta as back up

I told you should be carefull what they wish for in april a lot of people said thaat we should not go for young french players...

Believable0 Unbelievable0

With the exception of Giles Grimandi; I can't think of one French player under the AW era that has really shown any loyalty or given anything back to the club ~ as for PV poaching Na$ri.... that pretty much sum it up!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thierry Henry has, does, and will always champion AFC to the public every chance he gets. He'll always be a hero for me.

US Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

TH does say nice things, and I'm sure Cesc will to over the next few years (did he have a hand in the Arteta deal, they are pals??) ~ but basically both did very little for the cause in their respective last seasons (TH was positively a bad influence on the team & youngsters at the time, instead of helping encourage and develop them) and both scuttled off to Barca.....

sorry to say as both big heroes of mine too! ~ Jackthelad

wenger will bring in cahil and montolivio in january and will get rid of suilaci who is still here!! and rosicky

Believable0 Unbelievable3

You are dreaming. Arsenal will be out of every cup well before Jan. Mid table finish for us

Agree0 Disagree0

Rosicky is good, why would he want rid of him ?

Agree0 Disagree0

We will bring players in only if we are struggling to finish 4th (look at the past January signings)

Agree0 Disagree0

I can assure you we will still be in the FA Cup come January seeing as our 3rd round game isn't played until January... We will also be in the Champions League still.

Agree0 Disagree0

How negative is the person who replied first?? Are you a gooner at all. Our team needs support thru the good times and bad! I think with the signings we have made we will do well this season. At least we know now that all the players we have now really want to be at the club. Good for team spirit and will be good for the team!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Rosicky is awful, which is a shame as he was amazing before his huge injury. We don't need montolivo now as we have arteta

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should remember that Wenger has spent less than £30m and so has £50m burning a hole in his pocket. Worrying that we could not attract that marque signing. Still, the season starts here!

Agree0 Disagree0

AC milan have got an agreement with montilovo for signing him next summer havent they??

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that the signings that have been made are just what we needed. Big name players come with big salaries and I would rather get a few good players to supplement the squad rather than just one or 2 big names. We have always known that our first 11 is as good as any but have struggled when the injuries strike. Now we have very good back-up players and let's see where we go from here. Experience will help us, especially in Europe and at home when last season we often struggled to break down teams who just defended and then caught us on the break. Also, with Mertesecker we have a real threat from set pieces as well as extra protection when defending them.

Agree0 Disagree0

People need to stop comparing this team or infact ANY team in the prem, to the invincibles side.

Basically that side was a one off and would tear up any prem side or European side of today, which is why Man City wanted to buy that same squad!

Arsenal will do well every season is the same people doomsay ohh no we will finish mid table .... but I have been watching the Arsenal since I was about 15 (1996) and we have never finished lower than 5th which was in that first year as I recall...

This year probably 4th again being pessimistic, which I am not so I am going to say we improve to reach 3rd, behind the two Manchester teams and with Chelsea close behind

I would put my money on cahill in the summer for free to replace djourou he's been rubbish so far this season. And Yann M Vila for 25 million either January or summer and or maybe the now infamous (at least on this site anyway) Marvellous Marvin Martin. I would also put my money on the fact that this will be Abou Diaby's last season and maybe Tomas Rosicky's too. And what about Andre Arshavin to go back to Russia in January must be good odds.

Yossi Benayoun twitter says that he's signed with Arsenal

twitter.com/#!/YossiBenayoun15

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I think everyone knows this already haha

Kieron Gooner.

Agree0 Disagree0

WTF why have we signed Yossi benayoun,
Complete waste of time and money luckly only a loan, Wenger said he will only get better than hes already got hes been searching for months and the best he can get is benayoun Im furious,WE are screwed he hasent replaced the midfeild departures[ dont get me wrong Arteta is a good signing] but We need another midfeild goal threat urgently, He better impress with absoloutly amazing january signing.

Arsenal.com website is back on! by the way Ed, great job this summer, kudos to you! and to every Arsenal fan and supporter, let's keep the hope up, we are followers of the best style of Football in England!! :D

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I haven't seen that style of football in a good couple of months. The players we have and have signed can not keep the ball. We will have to change the way we play. Maybe the mid table way like we have played our opening three fixtures

Lets start off the season with the thrashing of Swansea!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Yes need to get back to winning games and let see the real Arsenal show up. I fear for Swansea.

SideNote:- I am losing pateince with Arshavin we need to see him start to perform to match the talent he has. The platform is there for him now that Nasri has gone, we need a good season from him.

Agree0 Disagree0

At least by a margin of 8 goals!!

Agree0 Disagree0

I went to a match not long ago and recall Arshavin scoring the winning goal against Barcelona in the champions league. He is a talent without a doubt, just wonder if his position doesn't suit him

Agree0 Disagree0

You not have realised but the season started three games back - anybody told Wenger?

Agree0 Disagree0

No doubt arshavin is a talent but i belief his days are over. dont think he can reproduce the magic when he thrash liverpool in his first season. i guess he just dont have the appetite and hunger, and he is also not performing when he is playing for russia.

Agree0 Disagree0

Such a shame, because when he was playing upfront as a second striker he was amazing! This is where his talents lie, not as some half baked attempt of a winger, or even in midfield - he doesn't have the legs for it ... He should be in the hole behind the main striker or playing next to a taller targetman type striker...

That is where he excels he clearly isn't a run backwards defending type of player so Wenger should just stop trying to teach an old dog new tricks and throw him a frickin' bone ... Or just sell him and call it a day!

CommonSensei

Agree0 Disagree0

Not gonna happen, team sucks didnt replace Nasri which was very important to do.

Here's an idea:

ITS THE ARSENE WENGER DRINKING GAME

Take a drink every time Arsene Wenger says: errrrrrrrr

Ted

{Ed022's Note - Like it Ted. I'll bring that in the next time a post match interview is on...}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

3 fingers ever time walcott hits the deck and complains to the ref but doesn't get a free kick.

1 finger for "Ref".
2 fingers for "F***"
2 fingers for player rolling around on the deck holding a body part.
3 fingers for someone/Walcott/Gervinho going down, complaining to the ref, and not winning anything.
3 fingers if someone is having a shocker and AW subs off someone who is having a good game. Lol
4 fingers for a yellow
red card= neck ya drink
ARteta comes off injured = fill your drink, neck it, repeat once.

This list could go on and on haha...
