With Torres likely to be headin out of Chelsea this transfer window, is there a chance Wenger will go in for him? Is Wenger a fan? Anyone know what wages he's on at Chelsea? I think he'd suit our style quite well.

EMG

Believable17 Unbelievable25

Torres is on about 170k a week, way out of our budget.

apparently he is being coaxed into joining athletico...

city are willing to pay 50 mill to take him to manchester.

madrid are making some big moves it seems. aguero, modric and ramires are being mooted by the papers.

Agree0 Disagree0

150k at least. he would still command a hefty transfer tag too due to his ability to sell shirts. Anzhi or PSG only real realistic options if he leaves chels

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless he takes a big wage cut,it will only be a few clubs that will be able to match his current salary, and Arsenal are not one of those teams, unfortunately.Just imagine Rvp,Podolski and Torres in the same team.its just a dream, just a dream!!
Braintreegooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres to Arsenal? Unlikely. Liverpool/Barca/Tottenham/PSG.

Personally, I think He could be excellent for Barca.

----------Busquet
-------Cesc Iniesta
sanchez Torres Messi

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see him going back to spain, barca would suit best

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres is a lazy striker. His confidence might be low, but his workrate is even lower. He sulks. I cant imagine him going anywhere except back to athletico where he should never have left in the first place.

''No news tonight is good news imo; means Arsenal have told him to keep his mouth shut.''

I posted this earlier...

Inter have already bought a CDM; one out of the race.

I'm hearig many different things atm.

Only time will tell.

Ben

Believable6 Unbelievable9

Quite honestly rvp should stay. barca are not going to spend crazy money this season.

madrid have lined up aguero, modric and ramires according to the papers.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this is about M'Vila not Robin..

Gilo

Agree0 Disagree0

'Only time will tell'

May aswell have made that 1 sentence your entire post. Afterall, the rest is pure speculation.

'Im hearing many different things atm'

Just be honest and rephrase that to 'I'm reading many different things on different websites at the moment'

Hi Ed. One of the rumours regarding Erikson and Van Der Biel is particulary interesting.

This is because apparently when Arsenal made initial enquiries at the end of last season about Vertognen we were offered Erikson and Vertognen for a similar figure. This rumour resurfaced again in January and I feel that there may be a kernel of truth in this.

The figure of 35m is also consistent as well and these transfers would take Ajax from it's current debt of 25m to a 10m surplus. Arsenal have traditionally offered more upfront cash than their competitors which is why Ajax would have likely wanted to do business of this type with Arsenal specifically.

Whether Wenger will proceed and the players themselves will consent is altogether another matter. The offer of the players and the figure itself I think likely. Ajax would certainly accept such a bid that's for sure.

Not sure if Wenger will {Ed001's Note - Eriksen has not been offered to Arsenal, that is nonsense.}

Believable5 Unbelievable10

Eriksen for 35mln is a bit steep don't you think...

That is the price of eden hazard who has been performing at a top level for 3 years.

Eriksen has been doing so in a elss competitive league for 1.5 years. Anything more than 20mln seems unreasonable.

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

If I could take 1 of them, I'd take eriksen. 20million, worth a punt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eriksen is a fine playmaker and easily has the ability to become one of the worlds best in years to come. He's very happy at the club too. Ajax would'nt offer him to anyone, they'd simply wait for inflated bids to come in.

Apparently were now in for skrtel from Liverpool who wants champ league football. If true would be great with the verminator as centre back partnership

Philyourpants

Believable8 Unbelievable26

Partner for verm? kos is our 1st choice centre half now. he has been superb this yr,
he is our vidic. verms form has been poor since christmas

Agree0 Disagree0

Too bad we don't have a vastly improved french centre back, who has been selected for their euro squad, in our ranks... Oh wait

Agree0 Disagree0

Koscielny is miles better than Skrtel anyways. So is Mertesacker. So if anything he would be an extremely expensive squad player

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't you mean partner Kozzer? Tv5 is better than Skirtel anyway but Kozzer is a class above both...

Agree0 Disagree0

Mvila says he has signed for arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

Sigh why are people so ignorant, vermaelen being our best defender is a MYTH

Agree0 Disagree0

Kos is boss

Agree0 Disagree0

You'd drop Koscielny for Skrtel? Seriously. Koscielny has been our best centre back/defender by an absolute distance for the last 18 months. If anyone gets dropped, it's Vermaelen who is seriously over rated.

My personal view is that Usmanov will be our owner in two years. He'll offer Kroenke an amount that he can't refuse. Kroenke will also have to consider the negative impact he has having on the fans as the majority want him out. I just don't know whether Usmanov is the man for the job.

We also have to take into account that Wenger might leave if the Russian billionaire gets his wish. Wenger seems to be strongly against buying silverware. There could be a massive conflict in philosophy. There is also the possibility that with Wenger gone, they could appoint someone like Mourinho and then we just become "one of those teams".

It will be an interesting few years for Arsenal. That is certain.
Eman

Believable19 Unbelievable11

If it was next year it could be Guadiola.
KJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I Doubt That Because Usmanov Is A Fan Of Wenger

Agree0 Disagree0

Better off without a outright owner of the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

No sense

Agree0 Disagree0

In many ways I hope not- whilst I am hungry for sucess and want to see arsenal 'up there' again, I don't want us to have a sugar daddy owner, with no respect or cred-

I would rather win within the clubs means...(whatever that is) believe me it will be so much sweeter that way.

We are one of the few clubs who have never 'bought' a title, I would like us to keep that record and have some real arsenal pride:) But that's just me.
LG

Agree0 Disagree0

This would be great for the club. We wouldnt buy the title, we would just have the financial strength to attract top players before they get snatched away from us ie if we were prepared to shell out 25mill last season, hazard was ours without a doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with you Eman :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I have slowly come around to the idea that having Ushmanov in charge can only be a good thing as long as he respects our tradition, sure he can put money into the club and we can spend as we generate a lot of revenue. Arsenal is the 4th most valuable team in the world so we can work to Financial Fair Play rulings and still spend a large portion of money on transfers and wages if we wanted. I personally want to see real investment this summer to keep RvP and buy 2-3 real quality players (Podolski is one of them).

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal don't need a sugar daddy! Financial Fair Play (FFP) is coming into play at the end of next season so clubs can only buy players based on the earnings that they've made! This will rule out about 70% of the clubs from buying up players so teams like Man City, Scum from down the road, Barcelona, Chelsea, Italian teams, Russian teams etc won't be able to compete with Arsenal, Man U, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich....basically the main teams who generate a profit!

Why do you think the board and Wenger are so keen to keep sombody like Usmanov or any other filthy rich Abramovich style owner away from the Emirates? They know they will be up there again challenging for honors again in a very short time & in the best and fairest way possible, based on revenue and turnover, and not an Sheikh or Oligarch's plaything!

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is though, are UEFA going to be strict on the fair play ruling? I don't think so..you think they would throw the likes of Real or Barca out for having massive debt and spending stupid money on transfers and wages..no way, if they did they would have mutiny on their hands and a European Super League quicker than you can say Oil Money!

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^ agree^^^ the FFP is very vague also it doesn't include things like investment in training grounds etc.. and youth policy's

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm divided on this issue but i would be very concerned that the american will eventually take money out of the club and all the money saved over the last few years will be for nothing. At least the russian is not in it to make a profit and would leave the money in the club and make finances available when needed.

Kerry Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I wont put any eggs into the ffp basket. Money via sponsorship/donation will mean the 'rich' clubs stay rich and keep spending regardless of the clubs official income.

rumours are dembele has refused to sign a contract and fulham want arshavin.....arshavin+5mil for dembele? also anzi will spash 45mil for rvp, if he wants to leave take 45mil and buy giroud/ba to replace him for a bargin price!

Believable15 Unbelievable19

£45 Million for Van Persie, as a Gunner I would drive him down there myself

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with the 1st reply.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would have to have better crossers of the ball into the box if we go for Giroud

Agree0 Disagree0

Get him on a new contract then sell him for £60 million, if torres is worth £50 million

Agree0 Disagree0

This simply not possible...Anzhi aint spendin nething more than 25 on persie..he is just got one yr left on his contract fr god sake!
plus dey r going to lure him with wages.

also,
I dun think we shud sell arshavin...but i sure do want to get dembele!

I feel skrtel wud b a great signing fr us.

How Do You Know This

Haha, Skrtel would be like 7th choice centre back.

don't think people realise how much lukas podolski is going to improve the arsenal side. All them chances Gervinho has had Pod will be in that position and man alive he probably has a better shot than rvp.
oh yeah i forgot though if he does well man city will bid 26mil for him and offer 260k a week wages

Believable25 Unbelievable6

Poldi will be great, but i reckon Gervinho will have a massive say in whether we can break our trophy duck or not, now that he has his first season out the way he can play with a bit more freedom

Last year I devoured every news flash, every football site, hoping against hope that Fabregas would stay. I felt less than happy when Nasri followed him out the door.
This summer won't be spoiled the same way worrying about RVP. Quite simply, if he stays he stays,if he goes he goes. Waffle about winning honours, titles etc won't phase me, I know it's simply code for trying to get more money.
Go to some bleak Russian city in the back of beyond for £300K per week, try it for 6 months, then ask the wife and family if it's the same as London. Enjoy some place where no-one speaks English, far less Dutch and Amsterdam is only 8 hours and 2 connections on a plane. When you are injured and on the treatment table for 6 months, you can always watch MOTD on the BBC I-Player at 3 am.
As for me, I will be hoping that Arsene unearths another gem to replace you, as we do our best next season. We may not win the Premier League, but I bet it's still more fun trying than playing cards with Samuel E'to for millions of roubles a hand.

Believable26 Unbelievable7

Is RvP to blame for stories made up by the media? Calm down and wait until we know what will happen.

RvP still is the man!

He hasn't helped surpress the medias stories by waiting so long for contract talks, and saying things like 'no matter what happens i'll always love arsenal' i completely agree that i think all he cares about is money, i have no respect for someone who is putting arsenal in this sort of position after we stood by him after 8 years of injuries

Agree0 Disagree0

I think everyone should relax a little when it comes to signings the transfer market doesn't officially open until July. I'm sure Arsenal are doing a number of negotiations at present just because were not aware of whom and at what stage their at doesn't mean there not going on. Can't think of any other big clubs that have announced big signings (agreements) so far only Chelsea and us with Podolski so were of to a good start and won't be like last season transfer market fiasco.

I very confident we'll have a good transfer market and keeping RVP.

For the champions league final I wanted Bayern to win for one reason only I wanted Arsenal to be the first London club to win it and wasn't bothered by the Spuds fate as I don't support them. I think we should have won it by now under Wenger with the sides we've had at times and find slightly embarrassing it is missing from the display at the Emirates.

Bergkamps apprentice

Believable17 Unbelievable7

Chelski winning the Champions League is a non event....so why worry?

They have bought that the same as Man City have bought the Premier League. Chelski were bankrupt before Abramovich and I imagine without him would still be too!

When we win the Champions League we will have done it the right way!

Im much happier about the summer so far on this page, then I was last year. Nobody posting rediculous comments about how we will sign 'x' on a certain day, bla bla. It seems people have finally realised that nobody knows what arsenal will do!

Didnt someone post on here 2 weeks ago that m'vila would be signed by now? Im quite sure that post is the reason people are speculating 'is he coming or not' on here.
The reality is ofc, wenger might not even have the slightest intention of signing him this summer...so whilst we would like him, its hardly a rumour that he will sign for us.

Believable11 Unbelievable4

Whats the point in this page if people aren't going to post who they think arsenal are going to sign from information they have gathered from different sources?

If the sources are the sun, the mirror, the daily mail, , talksport et al - then they arent worth being posted.

All those arsenal fans abusing rvp are a total disgrace. How can you abuse the greatest player for us last season because he hasn't signed a new contract yet? I am ashamed of all those fans and they are an absolute disgrace. Not worthy of being arsenal fans. How does abusing rvp help him sign a new deal. If he leaves those fans played a big role in chasing him away. I mean its absolutely disgraceful. Abusing bouchra vanpersie too is just not called for. Pls if you know any of those fans help make them stop that act. We should be making trends of rvp staying and giving him reasons why he shoudnt leave us rather than slag him off.
Naija gooner

Believable23 Unbelievable11

I'm pretty certain if he leaves it has nothing to do with what fans have being saying, if that was the case then he would have signed a deal already when no one was critising him?

Agree0 Disagree0

Probably yids stirring the sh*t by giving him grief

Ben

Believable7 Unbelievable18

Thats bit of downer as we need all the quality we can get.
hopefully now that wenger might shift attention to vertonghen which gives hope to coquelin/frimpong as he covers more positions.
although if m'vila was penciled in as a replacement for song we might be having a similar summer to last years shambolic showing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ben, what's your source. Some twitter bulls**t? I know for sure that M'vila will end up at arsenal. And i don't care if you believe me or not. I said more than a month ago that wenger's priority is m'vila and i still believe this. We will sign him.

Please post to help everybody's sanity!

Everybody's attitude towards Van Persie and his contract situation have changed massively. Flashback to this time last week and everyone was confident of him staying now everyone has resigned to losing him. What has happened in that week?

Well, Sunday we confirmed Champions League Football for next season. Surely that would tilt towards Van Persie staying knowing that he will play at the highest level of European football again. Next event that occurred during this week was the pictures of Podolski posted on Arsenal.com. Not being funny or anything but just seeing a player of Podolski's stature in an Arsenal shirt really hits home the reality that bigger players are coming and it shows the initial signs of intent that this club is looking to improve. Yet again, this must be a positive in making Van Persie stay.

Now on to the major happening of the week. Van Persie's contract talks on Wednesday morning. I am not a genius but I know that it takes more than one day to renew a contract. So realistically a deal was not going to be done on Wednesday. Now, correct me if I am wrong but Van Persie met up with the Holland squad on Thursday, therefore a deal was never going to be done before now. Since those negotiations the media have had a field day. Lots of stories posted with mixed messages. In my opinion none are true. Why? I don't believe any of the media were there. It has been confirmed that Van Persie has been banned from speaking to the Press. So he hasn't said anything. Gazidis and Wenger were the other ones there and they most certainly would not have said anything! The only other culprit is Wenger's wife and if anyone believes she has given details away has to get a life!

So, nobody knows what happened on Wednesday. Don't listen to all of these stories in the Media.

It's the silence that doesn't sit right with people. It is all to formilia to us gooners, it was the same when Fab and Nasri left. Why the silence? Why the ban on media speaking to RVP? Why has the only things at of AFC is that he still has 1 year? And why has no-one from arsenal come out and said talks where posative?

Excluding any new signings for the moment. Is it just me, or does anybody else agree that we would be much better off rotating Podolski, Chamberlain and Arshavin on the wings instead of Theo and Gervinho?

I like Theo and he has been a lot better this season, before you all shoot me down but Podolski and Chamberlain are better and assuming Arshavin has regained some confidence from his title-winning loan spell so is he. Especially when it comes to the final pass.

Don't get me started on Gervinho. He just puts his head down and runs straight into the oppo's right back again and again and again and again.

Thoughts?

Thanks, Nialli

Believable6 Unbelievable11

Don't Want Arshavin Anywhere Near Afc Hes Let The Team And Fans Down All Season.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's clear that arshavin still has talent, but he is clearly not at home in London - as a result Arsenal only get a shadow of the player at Zenit.

I personally feel Podolski is a CF and not an LW; much in the same way that RVP is. They can both play there, but it is nott where they are at there most lethal.

I suspect Wenger will rotate between rosicky and gervinho on the left and Theo and the Ox on the right (until he is certain of his starting XI).

He will probably keep miyachi and joel campbell for carling cup / fa cup matches.

I would be surprised if we signed another striker (assuming RVP stays). Instead, M'vila will come in and that will be the bulk of our business barring young prospects and last-day bargains.

If Adam Johnson is available as reported i think we must make a move for him. He would be outstanding for us, Move Walcott into centre. Would then give us Pod, OX, Ryo, Johnson down our flanks. I believe we may even be open to offers for Walcott and Song this summer. Personally believe we have players we need to shift a lot more urgently than those two but hey.

RVP is gonna drag so get a comfy chair and a good book this isn't going to be quick. Though i hope he stays as we all do.

going through all the posts and everyone that suggests a team has arteta on the bench which i really dont get.he has been a great signing and provides a calmness with experience.if we sign mvila i cant see song staying but a midfield of arteta wilshire and mvila sounds good to me.

gaz the gooner

Believable21 Unbelievable8

We r too weak defensively so having mvilla and song together wudnt b bad with song moving more freely while mvill stays to protect the back 4.... song has had 10 assists while being the CDM crazy imagine if he was allowed to let loose

Agree0 Disagree0

Sell Song

Agree0 Disagree0

We were weak defensively in the games where Arteta DIDN'T play. He's an essential member of the first team imo. M'Vila, Arteta and Wilshere would be a great midfield three.

Stezza.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the formation (particularly the midfield - will be a function of the opposition). For example for certain matches (against stronger attacking teams we will like deploy M'vila and song; and for lesser teams - particularly at home employ arteta instead. I think that wenger will not be looking to rotate song, barring rest periods.

Meanwhile, if we do not buy another attacking player - its fair to assume that wenger will rotate between Rosicky, wilshire and arteta.

I would not be surprised if we start the season with with following line up:

Shezza
Sagna kos verm Gibbs
Song M'vila
Theo arteta Rosicky
Van persie

In which: ox, podolski, gervinho are all impact subs.

Realistically wenger will probably think that the eventually return of wilshire and diaby; as well as Ramsey, coquelin will give him enough midfield depth.

Billybob

Arteta for me any day. Yes we did struggle in games he didn't play in. Ramsey can't complete a pass on a regular basis, he just hasn't got his confidence back.
