Ed do you expect Upamecano to leave this summer and if so which clubs do you expect to hold an interest?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Dayot Upamecano (CB) has been looked at by Bayern Munich as a Jerome Boateng replacement but they had another preferred plan - now that situation has changed with Bayern having recruited a young CB rather than an experienced player, so interest could return - with RBL already having a replacement in their sights. Barcelona have DU on a long list of CBs primarily because he is more affordable than others as he only has a year left on his contract - but they are fearful of making another Umtiti or Mina type error. Milan asked about a price but they have financially more viable options in what are tough times for them but may still try to gift DU to their new coach. Real Madrid enquired after him when discussing Werner with RBL, but they have preferred options so he will be down the list a bit and have already deferred their two primary purchases to next summer so spending will likely be constrained. It is hard to see CB as a priority for the summer for Manchester United this summer unless they can sell players on. Other interest from England from the likes of Manchester City exists but is not being pressed due to other priorities and preferred options. Arsenal have already recruited two new CBs for the summer, have one returning from injury and another given a new contract and are still massively overstocked at CB.}

Ed,
Could I trouble you for any information you might have on Jack Grealish with regards to what clubs may be interested in signing him and also if you might know of any sides he may favour?
I know the second ask is a stretch as your not privy to personal info it’s just he has spoken highly of Arsenal and the stadium in recent times. Of course this is not evidence of any preference for Arsenal but it is a little more than is ordinarily shared by players and a little random as he was not prompted to say either.
I’m not one of those that puts 2+2 together to make 5 it’s just I feel this guy will be a game changer for whoever he signs for and if it’s spurs or utd we will be at a loss because we are badly in need of his style of play.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United. Previously Spurs but they won't have the money.}

Thanks Ed.
Sickened.
He will bring a lot to Man Utd with how he runs between the lines and carries ball forward.

{Ed047's Note - you should ask ed01what he thinks of Grealish mate. 🤣

Ha ha Ed047,

I think I remember reading that he thought he was seriously over rated. and at the time I would get have argued.

But looking at what we have and what we lack he fits the bill as we don’t have any players, Tierney aside, who look to run at or past an opponent to allow opposition to fall out if their shape. Everybody wants it to feet and we inevitably have to play 10 inch perfect passes in order to get even a shot off.

If Pepe would ever just stay going in the same direction the first move he makes instead of confusing his upper body with his lower we might have someone who takes people on but more often than not he checks inside or backways.

We need a player who stretches teams with the ball and runs into space from midfield to receive a pass.

We do not have that and I think he showed last night what his attributes are and I think he will bring the best out of other attackers at Utd by being selfless and doing the dirty stuff we don’t acknowledge.

It has to be Countinho now for us. I’m hoping at least.

{Ed047's Note - someone suggested Liverpool buy Grealish and ed01’s head exploded! 🤯 and I best say nothing as I’m not a fan of either! 🤦‍♂️🤣

You’re right about Pepe though, not sure he’s looked like a £7 million player let alone £70 million.

I really don’t know who the answer is Shambles, someone we can’t afford that’s a certainty.

I'm not a Greaslish fan either so wouldn't lose any sleep over him going elsewhere, regards Pepe he has to turn it on next season or we have to cut out losses and get back what we can while we can, can't afford to wait 5 years hoping on yet another player to come good.
If we have made a mistake then so be it get back what we can next summer while we can.

I like watching Grealish a lot. I don't know whether he'd fit in at Arsenal or whether he's a top class player, but he is entertaining and to his credit he always wants the ball, never hides.

Now that Villa look to be safe, I think Watford might be picked apart. Eds, do you know if any clubs are interested in the likes of Deulofeu, Capoue, Sarr, Pereyra etc? All good players on their day, seems like they could go for bargain prices.

I'm at a loss to understand the Mesut Ozil situation. I love watching his linkup play when he's firing on all cylinders. I can't think he is happy just to sit around and take the money. He is a man who obviously cares deeply so why is he always injured/ not selected for technical reasons, not just with Mikel but with Emery as well. Is ego his problem or stubbornness? Or does Mikel only value players who have drive and energy? I hope the situation is not impacting the rest of the team as if it is it will be a long season next year! Eds do you have any insight please?

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal want to sell him - there is no question about that.}

21 Jul 2020 13:08:52
I do wonder if something ended his love for football a while back. The Erdogan stuff seemed to really affect him, as did his falling out with Die Mannschaft. Sometimes players just don't want to play anymore and I suspect that is the case with Mesut.

{Ed047's Note - I’d love nothing more than him to come good but sadly don’t see it happening with us.

Even in games he’s played under Arteta he never really took on the work ethic.

It’s like Sanchez lost it and it never came back and the same seems to be the case with Ozil and his wages are killing us.

Just my view but suddenly finding himself unwanted at Real where he was both happy and brilliant joining the Arsenal with its then fully flourishing cosy club at its hight was the worst possible move he could have made for his career, he arrived outstandingly brilliant and seemed to want to prove Real wrong but that attitude seemed to disappear when he realised what he was up against and he quickly seemed to chill out relax fit in with everyone else at the club back then.

What a partnership he had with Sanchez. They were unstoppable. I think the treatment he received after the World Cup affected him deeply. It seems a shame he didn't accept the offer to play in Turkey as I think this is where his heart lies.

I'm sure the atrocious treatment he received after the world cup did effect him Sally, it was terrible and totally without foundation as he was one of the few German players to show up at all in that world cup.
I think Mesut Ozil the person goes way beyond football and he's very much a humanitarian who got involved in charities in South Africa Brazil and Russia during his world cups and after them too as well as speaking up for the Muslim community in China when no one else wanted to talk about it, football has been good to Mesut financially but I get the impression he's never lost touch with the real world and his abity to help those less financial fortunate than himself.

I totally agree G62. I'd love for him to get back on track with us and see his contract out in a blaze of glory. Such a wonderful footballer on his day. Oops I've just realised this thread should be on the banter page, many apologies Eds.

It would be lovely to see Mesuts Arsenal career end on a high Sally but I don't think that's going to happen.

For the board the worst thing that could happen is for Mesut to play for us next season and be absolutely outstanding! That would leave the board in a proper dilemma, extend his contract and outrageous wage or let him go.

Those in control at the time got things very very wrong with Mesut and his outrageous wage offer.
