Arsenal to make a double bid for lazio's zarate and hernanes

Believable16 Unbelievable15

No way we can buy hernanes.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree about hernanes - his all round game is good and he is strong and decent and defending

Agree0 Disagree0

Is zarate really good enough?

Agree0 Disagree0

Id take zarate in a flash..think wenger could turn him into a right good player cause its in him,just need the right manager to get it out of him

The Guardian reports that tonight we made a 22m bid for Yann M'Vila. Anyone know if this is true?

Believable20 Unbelievable12

The guardian are usually reliable with their articles, much more so than daily mail, the sun etc.

however, i dont see the logic in spending 22m on a defensive midfielder (albeit a very good one), when we have song and frimpong who is emerging as an important squad player. if wenger wants to spend 22m on a player, surely its hazard?

or baines and arteta combined?

Agree0 Disagree0

^ Agree.

Frimpong looks incredibly promising although he does seem a smidge overaggressive/enthusiastic, but that's simply because he has yet to bottle it effectively, he is only 19.

Song stepped up massively also today, I was very impressed with his passing and technique, looking more like a complete CM and not a total DM. Vieria-esque? (Despite him being somewhat of a traitor.)

I feel like 2 singings are likely. A cover for Cesc/Nasri, and a cb. That's it. Maybe another mid, unlikely.

Agree0 Disagree0

Frimpong doesnt look that good IMO and song cant tackle and will just keep coming up and leaving a gap in front of the defence were the opposition counter and normally score because we have unexperienced defence if you compare frimpong and song and mvila m'vila comes out on top and he is younger than song and i think 2 years older than frimpong but im not sure

frimpong got same problem as song and also doesnt know when to release the ball which i noticed about ten times in the liverpool match

sky graeme baily:Reports in Spain say Arsenal will challenge Valencia for the signature of Real Madrid's Raul Albiol.

Believable15 Unbelievable12

He only signed for Real last summer from Valencia?

Anyways, don't want him, want someone with EPL experience (Cahill/Jags)

{Ed022's Note - He signed for Real Madrid in 2009. He has played about 50 times for them but is now 3rd choice behind the preferred pairing of Pepe and Ricky Carvalho.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Think if we were to have a bidding war with valencia, Valencia will win hands down. Its his former club, will feel more comfortable as its familiar the league, the club etc. He will only want to move to us, if he wanted a new challenge.

Very pleased with tonight's performance; only a couple of pieces missing;
a centre-half - cahill/jags - £13m-£16m
a dm - M'Villa/Vertonghen - £13-17m
2 am - Hazard - £26m and Ayew 13m
a cf - Cisse - £13m
buy these and we'll be the best team in the league
SPEND THE MONEY
A.G

Believable17 Unbelievable18

In my opinion we do not need a DM. frimpong and song are solid and young. been very impressed with frimpong, it is nice to see an arsenal player making strong challenges for once. Maybe a CM but more attacking seeing as we lost attacking midfielders (nasri and cesc)

Also a CB, and Cf is majorly needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

You've spent over 80 million there before wages, not very realistic is it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Im sorry but we dont need a dm we have song and frimpong they are both class... besides Vertonghen isnt a dm hes a cb.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why replace Frimpong or Song? They are looking very impressive lately. Frimpong is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

And, c'mon now. I'm sick of fans not thinking through realistic expectations for transfers. Do your damn math

Agree0 Disagree0

So you want a dm. honestly, no need for that we have song and frimpong and don't forget abou diaby on his day he's brilliant

Well done boys I think we have a world class keeper in sceze and jenkinson was absolutely superb, he is the future England right back, well done boys great performance

Believable28 Unbelievable11

Totally agree, gervinho looks promising too

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone who said we need a new keeper doesnt know there arsenal from their elbow. absolutely superb penalty save

Agree0 Disagree0

Isn't it funny how 12-6 months ago everyone was having a go at Wenger saying 'whats he doing not buying a keeper' 'everyone can see Arsenal need a keeper' no one even mentions it now......Wenger was right so to all you Wenger haters just let the man do his job.*WELL DONE BOYS*

Agree0 Disagree0

Who has pressed unbelievable to this? sceze there is no possible argument. Jenkinson was amazing considering where he has just come from - that pass under pressure across field to TV5 set up the move that lead to theo's goal.

Alex

Agree0 Disagree0

Or the future Finnish right back

{Ed022's Note - He has stated himself he would choose England over Finland.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah agree totally, gervinho was brilliant its nice to see a winger in an arsenal shirt that can beat defenders with the ball, even rosicky looked good when he came on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jenkinson plays for finland

{Ed022's Note - He has an English dad and a Finnish mother. He has stated that he would play for England. He has played for Finland up to under 21 level which still enables him to play for the Senior England side. Remember he was League 1 Charlton playing less than half a dozen games for them a year ago. There was no way he'd get an England call. Now hes playing CL football for Arsenal and Capello was watching tonight. Expect a senior call up soon for England...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ugh anon poster you copied my exact reply ;)

StEvE

Agree0 Disagree0

I think walker is the future right back

{Ed022's Note - Its not a bad situation to have two good RBs coming through for England is it?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Szczesny is by far the best young keeper in recent times. It feels good to be certain that we now have a solid world class shot blocker for the next 16 years. I can't wait to see what the CL-ticket will bring the team of new players...

Agree0 Disagree0

Guess there must be some spuds on here to disagree. Well done the lads you were fantastic you showed great passion ans determination and Rosicky was the changing point, well done.

Agree0 Disagree0

I knew the first time I saw Szcz play that he is going to be one of the best in the world one day, Wenger obviously thinks the same and I swear to god the man could make me cry after his performance today. Jenkinson has made me so proud to be an Arsenal fan.... he's what my mate would a Lid, and he just is not arsed is he, it;s amazing, he just gets on with it and our young lads don;t seem to be phased by much. Frimpong was fantastic, he looks like he's been in the first team for a long time and what a difference it made having Ramsey in the game - he wasn't outstanding by any means but the fat he did his job mean the rest could too. I so unbelievably proud and buzzzing right now...

This is what being rewarded for having faith feels like. The next week is going to be so exciting as we secure our targets in the market too, I almost couldn't care less about united.

Raz

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Szczesny looks good, did last year.But when he does make a mistake and he will everyone will be screaming for a new keeper.Need to get behind our lads they have no say as to what goes on in the boardroom.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can I just ask, is Micah Richards a right back? Would he also be in contention? He is immense IMO...

{Ed022's Note - Yeah Micah Richards is a RB. Glen Johnson is also a RB. Apparently so was Gary Neville but we won't go down that road...Things are looking strong for England in the RB department...}

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing that pleased me was jenkinson never tried to hide....always made himself available,very mature performence and didnt give the ball away....that save was outstanding, hit very hard at a difficult height....the second half sub our number 7 was fantastic....well done lads...still need a c.b...left sided mid, and a forward

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely had my doubts about youn szchezney, and was one of those sceaming for a new keeper this summer But the boy was on fire toninight and if he can turn out performances like this week in week out he could be the number1 for over a decade The rest of the team showed greatfighting spirit and played well, yet we do need reinforcements of a high quality to compete with the reat of the top clubs A lot of the players being mentioned are along the right lines, come on arsen do the business

Agree0 Disagree0

In terms of personal England preference, I'd have Richards first choice, Walker second choice, Johnson third choice and Jenkinson fourth choice. But I do believe that Jenkinson will absolutely rise up and be better than all of them are. What does everyone else think?

Agree0 Disagree0

Richards is a right back but he's got everything needed to play cb.loads of talk last year we would get him in px.Definate maybe for us

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd put Richards first, then purely out of Bias I'd put Jenk in second, Johnson at the bottom. He's alright at attacking but can't defend to save his life.

{Ed022's Note - Don't get me wrong. Micah Richards is our England RB right now. No question in my eyes. Johnson is probably second. However Jenks and Walker of Tottenham will definitely challenge them over the coming years...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Very happy with the performance tonight from the Lads. Rosicky looked amazing great sub from Wenger. Did anyone catch Super Szczesnys interview afterwards about giving Di Natalie some abuse before the penalty? TOP MAN I am so happy we finally have a solid keeper who isn't afraid to boss people about. Hopefully now we are in the Champions League we can look forward to some positive additions to the team.

Gooner Bill

{Ed022's Note - I did actually notice he was given him some verbal massively. I just laughed and thought "GOOD LAD!!" Do you know what he said?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Think ull find martin kelly will probably be englands future right back lol

{Ed022's Note - England are stacked with RBs. What about CBs and LBs??}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ill give it to spurs that Walker probably will be the England right back .. but we've got the futures Centre Mids in Wilshere and Frimpong (if he chooses England which i assume he will)

{Ed022's Note - Frimps has been called up to England Under 21s and I would say he'd choose England over Ghana at this point.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the left back problem has been resolved. Keep Jenks at RB and play Sagna at LB. Jenks has played crucial games for us and has been class. Chesney is a great keeper. A decent back up keeper would be good though. A great result tonight had my doubts we would pull it off seeing as the press have done their best to put pressure on the team by writing us off. Brilliant result. So proud of this side.

Romford Gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

No idea what was said by Szczesny but he said along the lines of "I'm not proud of what I said to Di Natalie before the penalty but it worked"
When asked what he said he replied "its not for TV" with a cheeky smile

One of the best penalty saves I have ever seen though. Hopefully we now have a true successor to David Seaman

Agree0 Disagree0

All the boys played great from what I saw I was spose to be working but caught glimpses the only one who didn't fill me with confidence was djorou we need a cb what if verm gets injured

Agree0 Disagree0

ED .. Centre backs Smalling and Jones willl be the first choice IMO, im sure there plenty of cover aswell.
And if Gibbs get his body sorted and stops getting injured he'll be the left back, miles better than Bertrand.

Agree0 Disagree0

If your English and Arsene wants you, there must be something special about you. Despite all the haters of Arsenal, every national team coach knows, if Arsene has him give him some national team football.

Agree0 Disagree0

COBBLERS-GOONER........ was good to see a performance last night worthy of calling great. Schez was brillinat, and as all have said before, an amazing penalty save, and it was also nice to see Theo playing well too, Rosicky had a great 2nd have, battled well and did a lot of work, but Jenkinson...... well, for a young kid and being thrown in at the deep end like that, i raise my glass to you... AWESOME PERFORMANCE, future England star.

Some promising news coming through, if we dont qualify tonight (god forbid) we could still have a place in the group stages, this is because fenebace have been withdrawn from the competition due to match fixing alegations, we would be given a place due to having the highest uefa ranking of the teams not qualifying
YoungGunner

{Ed022's Note - As I have stated on another post this is all UNCONFIRMED officially by Uefa so don't get too excited just yet. This is just speculation. I wouldn't like to rely on it so let's get the job done, go through by rights and then let Uefa deal with it.}

It has emerged Arsenal are back in the running for forgotten target moussa sissoko.It is expected Wenger will make a bid this week if around 15m for the tolouse midfielder.Sissoko had held talks with Inter and Lyon but nothing happened.Wenger has said Montilivo and zarate will not be coming as he has denied interest and has said if he was interested in a player he would not say so it looks possible wenger will complete the signings of hazard (26m) m'villa (15m) Martin (17m) and Jagielka (20m) as he has not spoke on the matter and they have been long term targets aswell as the fact we have submitted bids.

Believable11 Unbelievable23

Martins price would be a lot less than you stated.....i also doubt he would be looking to sign both him and Hazard....central defender,one or two in midfield and a striker....bentner for sale,vela on loan...that leaves us short

Agree0 Disagree0

When did wenger say he wont sign montolivio i know martin is a good player but id prefer montolivio

Agree0 Disagree0

Hazard is staying at LOSC Lille for another year and then next year the big money teams (Chelsea, Man City, Barca, Real) will all be competing to snap him up.

Arsene has pulled out the stops to get us the players we need,
Christian Eriksen Ajax, €20million
Jan Vertonghen Ajax, €12 million
Mario Goetze Dortmund €20 million
Yann M'Vila Rennes €15 million

These are the 4 players we are going to sign with
a team of :
Szchezny

Sagna Vertonghen Vermealen Gibbs

M'Vila

Eriksen Wilshire Goetze

Gervinho RVP

Cannot wait for friday for these to be confirmed

Arsenal Steve, PS Come on you Gunners Tonight

Believable17 Unbelievable42

As much as i would love to believe this there is no chance of arsenal being capable of doing four deals in the space of 2 and 1/2 days just wishful thinking will be lucky to sign 1

Agree0 Disagree0

Always thought that a double deal for erickson and vertonghen was the way to go.

hazard throws strops when it doesn't go his way.
erikson has also been getting coached by bergkamp at ajax, should sweeten things for us in terms of fitting in to our style of play.
don't know about goetze, i like kagawa and honda, great players and will be great for ryo to man fellow countrymen in the side. but top of the list has to be vertonghen, would be a formidable pairing of tv5 and poss jv4, also versitile big plus.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can we really get Vertonghen for £12m? I'm fairly sceptical

{Ed022's Note - Hes valued at 12m euros which is the same price we paid for Vermaelen. You still sceptical?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Not true at all to the first reply- of course we could do 4 deals in that time, the fact that we already have them lined up has obviously bypassed you.

Btw there is no way Dortmund will sell Goetze.

Agree0 Disagree0

Y 2 2 1/2 days we have until wednesday

Agree0 Disagree0

**** my old boots, if we signed these four I'd, I'd, I'd be lost for words in admiration. Samir Who? Eriksen, Goetze, Vertonghen and M'Villa.
Arsenal Steve, if your are correct in this, it would be ....wonderful.
Max Farnham. In Arsenal Steve we Hope. In Arsene, still, we trust.

Arsenal are interested in Xherdan Shaqiri

Believable13 Unbelievable31

Who? I am sorry and how do you pronounce that?

{Ed022's Note - Pronounced phonetically is Zerdan Shakiri. He is a 19yr old winger who has been linked with both Arsenal and Liverpool in recent times. I seem to remember he scored a "worldie" of a goal against England when we met in the qualifiers. It was his first goal and he rocketed one into the top corner. Very talented and definitely a Wenger style signing.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Been saying this for months :)
DB7

Agree0 Disagree0

But he isn't experienced, think Wenger should spend the rest of the transfer window looking to buy some one who is experienced

Agree0 Disagree0

I am 22 and it disappoints me that the 'experienced players' that Wenger is looking to bring in are Eden Hazard and Yan M'Vila. who are both younger than me.

#gamechanger

Agree0 Disagree0

And he is 5ft 7ins another small player

Agree0 Disagree0

This is possible (Especially as he is not the Centre Half were desperate for ?).

On the + side type his name in and watch the clips on youtube. He has got "Arsenal Player" written all over him.

Only problem is he seems very much like all the young midfielders we already have a quicker version of Willshire.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh if our team was made up of 10 Wilsheres I would be happy. or 10 Nasris. I also really don't care about experience as long as they player is fantastic, an experienced player can still suck, and if the only reason for signing the experienced player is to lift the dressing room spirits then sign scotty p, keep eboue and draw a line under everything.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah....is eboue not gone
still if we sign shaquiri we must be spot on to get the boyfriend pique...he is a massive player

Agree0 Disagree0

He's amazing, he tore the u21 world cup apart. carried the swiss

Agree0 Disagree0

How many players do Citeh want? They can only have 25 in the squad.

{Ed022's Note - The can have 25 players over 21yrs old. Anyone under 21 can also play meaning players such as Steven Savic, Dederyk Boyata dont have to be named in their squad list. They will probably have about 30 players to choose from...}

Scweinsteiger rumours cropping up all over the place today

Believable12 Unbelievable25

No they aint It was in one place today, until 30minutes ago when the tripe that is Football 365 than put in in their live blog, which they do say, is basically bull

Agree0 Disagree0

Think schweiney would be the perfect midfielder at arsenal. great leadership qualities has a great engine fantastic passer and a born winner....but i think it would be an impossibility to prize him away from bayern.
i would say it might be different if we were a team that had won something though. think that if we manage to win something it will prove we are still competitive and that may prove to aid us in our signings, never mind all the champions league buff.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is champions league cup tied isnt he

Agree0 Disagree0

Im pretty sure that Schweinsteiger is Cup tied with Bayern Munich. Im also pretty sure that he just signed a new contract. 30+ million for a high wage, cup tied German does not look like the kind of signing Wenger would make. You don't have to be a Professor to work that one out.

Gourcuff,hazard,m'villa,jagielka,.....big four signings.....deal done.....xpect a striker if bendtner leaves....and this rn't rumours.....deals r done provided we go through to ucl group stages.... SHEIKH AHMED SAQUIB

Believable12 Unbelievable27

I'd really quite like to believe this "rumour"....
Can you add "Baines" and a thirty goal a season striker on there too please to really make my day?
Max Farnham

Agree0 Disagree0

If only this were true

Agree0 Disagree0

Then the deals aren't done then How can a deal be done as long as we qualify for the CL? A deal is done when a player is signed. Bullsh*t rumour.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think all of those rumours are valid except Gourcuff.....think he could cut it in england no probs but the history between him and chamack may pose the probs. plus i think he is champions league cup tied....
a big asset is needed though.would really like aly cissoko at lb if honest. think gomis would be a reasonably priced cf/st but alas cup tied also.

Just read on sport vibe juve have enquired about arshavin and are keen on a fee around 10mil, as much as he has been terrible lately can we afford to lose another midfielder?

{Ed022's Note - No, given that (Almunia aside) Andrei Arshavin is the only player for Arsenal who isn't going through puberty or who gets ID'd when buying lottery tickets, I suggest we keep him for his experience and his ability (on his day) to win or change a game.}

Believable11 Unbelievable6

Wouldn't be surprised if he does actually get carded, he looks about 14. I do agree with you about keeping him tho, Ed022

Agree0 Disagree0

I say take the 10mil and dont look back hes woeful.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think we should get rid of him, even last season he was a terrible, maybe the likes of miyachi and chamberlain can cover him.

{Ed022's Note - Rely on two 18yr olds? In addition to our 20yr old keeper, our 21yr old left back. Our 19 and 20yr old central midfielders, a 20yr old striker in Campbell... Don't you realise we need experience?!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed 022 writes a lot of first rate stuff on here, but on this occassion I disagree with him. Arsharvin might be "mature" bit his consistency is pitiful and we'd be better off with a younger, hungrier more reliable player on the left. Adam Johnson for example, (OK we've missed our chance if we ever had one, of him by not including him in a Nasri deal), but The Double A has been playing like a Double Agent (Barce goal aside) for the last season and ten million squid sound to good to be Bentdner to me. Flog 'im stick the ever experienced Eden Hazard in his place for a net £16m. Max Farnham

{Ed022's Note - Appreciated Max but my point was people were suggesting relying on AOC and Ryo. I think thats wrong and unfair. If we were to get Adam Johnson in for example then maybe ill feel differently. At the moment though he's got to be a keeper!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Chamberlain + Miyaichi = Not good enough. Miyaichi didn't exactly set the Dutch league on fire (albeit he played for Feyenoord who are evidence in itself what happens when your squad has an average age or 20 or something) and yet Miyaichi is hailed as some sort of superstar that will play a pivitol part in Arsenal winning the Prem.

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep him, for the love of God Can't beleive anybody wants rid of one of the few experieinced players we have, who CAN be a game changer - might even be nice if he got played in his preferred position

Agree0 Disagree0

Please stop calling Arshavin useless, cause you CLEARLY AINT GOT A CLUE MATE His contribution last season was our best from Midfielder.... 10 Goals and 17 assists last season, and has set himself a target of 15 goals this year 10m Juve, No thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arshavin has committed his future and see out his contract with arsenal, said earlier this summer. I don't see him leaving and really don't him to go. He gets a lot more stick than he deserves from fans recently.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I agree we need someone in the dressing room to help these lads develop RVP can't do it on his own, plus arshavin does score and is always way up the list on assists

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair ed022, im pretty sure tv5 doesn't get id'd, i certainly wouldn't id him

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Ed022 but Arshavin is hopeless so easy knocked off the ball. He is dreadful and spend most of his time on his backside. Atleast a 19 year old or 20 year old will be able to get more than 10 yards before falling over. If we can get 10mil I would hope wenger gets rid which will free up some wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Ed022 Arshavin is class when in form.. yes he had a bad season last year but he is also being played out of position.. if he played behind RVP I think you would see a huge difference

Trinidad Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand that if we do not sell Arshavin (and he did not appear last week against Udinese), he will leave on free next summer or Jan 2013.

Agree0 Disagree0

From what ive heard ryo did set the dutch league on fire thats why they are calling him the new ronaldinho. He is young and unproven here but to write him off is crazy

Agree0 Disagree0

West ham fan if your going flog him... get someone in first nas/fab were on there way surely you.ll have lined up replacements i mean nasri didnt want 2 sign a contract ex u have to draw the line somewhere any number of clubs would have taken him its left you chasing players that have gone up in price

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't afford to lose another midfielder even tho he's been bloody shocking for 18 months. thats the sad situation we find ourselves in

According to footybunker arsene wenger is looking to sign montilivo for around 12million pounds from Fiorentina have enquirer about his availability following key interest.Montilivo wants away from Fiorentina and only has a year left on his contract so fiorentina want to cash in on him.Arsenal are the favourites to his signature as no prem club have stated any interest,bayern have denied an approach and fiorentina have vowed not to sell him to league rivals.

Believable16 Unbelievable14

Well like the Nasri situation, money talks.....

{Ed022's Note - Just gotta convince Wenger to talk with money!!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny how fiorentina now play in the bundesliga

{Ed022's Note - Funny how you've misread the post and thought you'd pick wholes in it? Bayern Munich have denied making an approach for Montilivo and Fiorentina have said they will not sell to OTHER Italian teams leaving Arsenal (if they're interested) with no many competitors. Next time read an article twice...}

Agree0 Disagree0

No signings will happen until at least we know what European cup were in. I'd expect that money we make from cesc and nasri to fill the gap if we don't have CL football for this season and then after that will require investment from the board ... if we win tonight then expect 2 big signings using the money from the 2 deals but that will be it.. Not expecting a defender

Udinese had a 6 mil euro bid accepted for winger Gabriel Torje from Dinamo Bucharest. The transfer will go trough after the CL qualifier against Arsenal.

Believable5 Unbelievable14

Actually as wierd as it sounds about Ronaldinho its something that wouldn't surprise me. I'm not for one moment saying it will happen, but remember when Arsene bought in Davor Suker? Wasn't he the top scorer in either the world cup or euro championships? Forgive me I have forgotten which tournament.

The point is, that was a surprise signing. So you never know the Ronaldinho thing is not so far fetched.

Steve

{Ed022's Note - Just for your own records, Davor Suker scored 6 goals in 7 matches winning the Golden Boot at World Cup 1998 in France. He signed for Arsenal in the summer of 1999...}

Agree0 Disagree0

It was also part of the Anelka deal...

{Ed022's Note - No it wasn't. It is often considered that they were part of the same deal. However, they were two separate deals. Arsenal sold Nicolas Anelka to Real Madrid for £23m in the summer of 1999. Due to his arrival Suker was pushing down the pecking order and Arsenal signed him for £3.5m to replace the outgoing Anelka. Suker fell out with then manager John Toshack and actually initiated a release clause and signed for Arsenal after agreeing to a pay cut...}

Agree0 Disagree0

How does this qualify for the arsenal rumours

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2011 11:33:45
Shock move by Arsenal to sign Ronaldinho. There's no 'Arsenal are contemplating a bid' or 'Arsenal are monitoring the situation closely' nonsense. A deal has already been DONE. Personal terms agreed and everything. You wouldn't believe me if I told you how I found this news out so I won't waste my time but it's 100% true. I'm heading down to William Hill and good old Paddy Power to see what odd's they'll give me for this and put on the biggest wager of my life……I suggest you do the same
This isn't made up. I'm not even an Arsenal fan. I'm a neutral football fan who admires any club that play good football. Ronaldinho is still playing great for Flamengo and is in great shape. Although he is 31 and not the usual Arsene Wenger signing he has bags of experience and is exactly what your club need. Anyways wait and see….the news will probably break out anytime between now and this weekend.
Antonio

{Ed022's Note - If we sign Ronaldinho, which we wont, then I will streak naked down the Holloway Road...}

Believable13 Unbelievable26

Really don't see this happening, we can't afford his wages and he's a bit past it. I'll join Ed streaking down the Holloway Road if it happens.

The likelyhood of brazlian players coming to europe at this point in time is very very low, with the World cup just around the corner... you'd be better off placing a bet on Ronaldinho retiring after the world cup imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems every Gunner is prepared to streak down Holloway Road for this.

Agree0 Disagree0

To see ED streak is worth signing an ancient player i say bring him in

{Ed022's Note - I work hard to get the body I currently have. However, I don't think anyone really wants me to streak down Holloway Road. It is merely a statement of my confidence this deal wouldn't happen...}

Hahah My Ars3 we'll sign ronaldinho. he's rubbish

Agree0 Disagree0

I will put money that ed will not even take his shirt off

Agree0 Disagree0

Idiot players can still leave brazil the brazilian teams just cant sign anybody

Agree0 Disagree0

Brazilian transfer windowing being shut means they can no longer buy players, however they can still sell. that is why there is still interest in Neymar.
D1

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I was going to make a point about their transfer window being shut- that stops that one cold doesn't it.

{Ed022's Note - I think its safe to say that Brazilian clubs can still sell but they can no longer sign players...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting to see this rumour surface on here. I have no inside knowledge but what I can say is that some fans were talking about a possible Ronaldinho deal last week at the Emirates during the Udinese game. It may well just be a pipe dream, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ronaldinho has the desire to play in the Premiership before he retires.

Also, what a previous poster said about the Brazilian window being closed is false. Brazilian clubs can no longer sign from foreign teams but they can still sell players abroad and buy and sell to other Brazilian teams as long as the player hasnt made more than seven league appearances.

Believable34 Unbelievable16

Doing the right thing? what are you on about? doing the right thing would be investing in the team in problematic areas with players of quality and above all experience. something which mr wenger is neglecting to do. why have cesc and nasri left? ok they are bothgona earn more money but they have a much bigger chance of winning a trophy. i dont want wenger to go but he like a lot of fans should OPEN THEIR EYES. football has

I agree that we need to invest but booing the team off adds nothing to the club and the image of the true fans...if investing means paying overly inflated prices for avg players just to bring big names then we dont need man-s**tty-style-investing...ps congrats for a great win tonyt...

Without peeing on your sandcastle, Goal.com isn't very accurate and this is the same Goal.com who suggest Hazard wasn't going anywhere YESTERDAY...}

Agree0 Disagree0

The French champions have been bullish about holding on to the golden boy of Belgian football, who they value at around the £26 million (30m) mark.
Hazard told the Lille hierarchy earlier in the window that he would like to stay in France for one more season before moving to one of Europes big guns.

But a source close to the 20-year-old playmaker told Goal.com: Eden has said all along that he wont leave until next year unless the right opportunity comes along. It would need to be a club who can match his ambitions but they are running out of time to get him.

Arsenal are heading the queue for Hazard and made their interest known to Lille earlier in the window and again in recent weeks.

The two clubs have a good relationship following the sale of Gervinho to the Emirates Stadium last month, while Hazards age, ability and technique appeal greatly to Arsene Wenger.

However, the French club are in a strong position to hold on to their prize asset in the window after generating £20m (23m) from the sales of two of their title-winning team Gervinho and Yohan Cabaye, who went to Newcastle.

Arsenal are believed to be unwilling to pay more than £20m (23m) for a player who was dropped from the Belgium team for a friendly in June for misconduct following his reaction to being substituted in a Euro 2012 qualifier.

Lille believe that Hazard could be worth another £5m (5.5m) in 12 months time if he has another strong season in France, which could enable them to demand more than £30m (33.5m) for a player who has been tracked by all the elite European clubs.

Lille general manager Frederic Paquet has said: "Eden will not be leaving this season. We are aware of interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe but we are not prepared to sell.

"He is very happy here, he understands our project and wants to stay for at least another year."

Wenger has a formidable transfer kitty of £90m (103m) to spend before the summer window shuts, Goal.com revealed on Tuesday.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a feeling if we win tonight he will be in london tomorrow or friday

Agree0 Disagree0

Every players has there price. If the moneys right he will come.
D1

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope everything goes well with this transfer. IMO the only player that suits arsenal at the time.

Gooner from Greece

Agree0 Disagree0

In which case it must be true

Agree0 Disagree0

CL footie - £25m to Lille & £80k a week, might be enough to conclude the deal. Whether Wenger would sanction such a deal is highly unlikely. I think we will sign Cahill & a relatively unknown central midfield player.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2011 10:04:36
wenger has not got 90 m to spend its a load of rubbish
1732
he has about at least 45m -max 55m

Believable18 Unbelievable34

I think Wenger has a huge amount at his disposal, its whether he wishes to spend thats the problem.

Sales (appox)
Fabregas £34m (eventually)
Nasri £24m
Eboue £3.5m
Clichy £7m
JET £1.1m
Bendtner £10m ?
Total £79.6m

Purchases (approx)
Gervinho £11m
Oxlade (£12.5m eventually)
Jenkinson (£1m)
Campbell (£1m)
Total £25.5m

Balance £54.1m

We had a surplus the season before last when we sold Adebayor & Toure for approx £42m & bought Vermaelen & Arshavin for approx £25m
Surplus £17m

There was a reported £35m set aside for this season, as well as property profits etc.

This makes at least £106 million

However, I do not believe for one second that Wenger will spend anything like that

I would suggest;
Cahill £15m
M'Vila £20m
Hazard £25m
Baines £15m
Total £75m, meaning we wont have touched the £35m set aside for purchases. In addition we have reduced our wage bill considerably by selling/loaning several players, so the wage bill shouldnt increase by much, if anything at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry made a mistake 67 m

Agree0 Disagree0

Baines would cost more than that then you have to take signing on fees agent fees and wages into acount

Agree0 Disagree0

He had £50m before the sale of Cesc and Nasri.
So simple Maths would suggest is around the £90m mark.
This figure is for transfer fees and wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

As the above poster stated and I've stated here on a couple of occasions now.

We have between £90m (min) and £97m (max)

However remember that includes wages and renewals of players contracts.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2011 10:03:39
wenger has 90 m why is he not spending do you think the board just let wenger do what he wants with it
if wenger wanted to buy sneijder for 55m
would they just let hhim but nooooooooo they would not

Believable8 Unbelievable20

Because its not as simple as just paying for a player...a 55m player on 5 year £150000 a week contract eventually costs 91m pounds (not including bonuses etc).

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd say sneijder would want more than 150,000 a week. But if you think about it and say he did settle for 150,000 a week and it was coming to 91m for a 5 year contract.

That would have paid off over the 5 years because a player of that calibre would always help us to achieve qualification to the champions league which is an automatic 20m pounds a season, plus all the all the sponsorship that would come from that.
Thats 100m over 5 years just for qualification which would have paid for the player and made a 9m profit??
its 1m every match after that is it not? that alone would fund for another decent player.
The problem is Arsenal is a business run by business men looking to make a profit for themselves rather than putting the money back into the club.

Rob

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not sure you can guarantee qualification on the back of one player - he may never settle, may dissappoint, may be injured (most likely with our luck)
I agree with you anyway, and the point i was making simply was, it isnt just as easy as throwing money at a player, just because we can afford the initial price.

Agree0 Disagree0

The club must take into acount money they make off of new players too ie shirt sales ect how many shirts would sneider sale dose this have any factor ED ?
or can it be used towards wages ?

{Ed022's Note - Yes, shirt sales could go towards "paying off a big transfer". For example, Ronaldo's 2009 switch to Real Madrid broke all records for a single player transfer when Real splashed out the single fee, without clauses or additional payments, last summer. However, by April 2010, "Ronaldo 9" shirts and "Ronaldo memorabilia" have already seen them recoup a substantial amount of the 25-year-old's transfer fee. According to official figures, more than 1.2 million shirts with 'Ronaldo 9' on the back were sold in the Spanish capital alone, with millions more thought to have been bought up elsewhere around Spain and across the world. The income of around £100 million has not all gone towards paying back the outlay for the player's services due to production and marketing costs and payments to kit manufacturer Adidas and Ronaldo himself.
But experts are predicting throughout the player's six-year contract he will more than make up for his market value in merchandising alone - regardless of his performances on the pitch. Therefore, if we signed Sneijder then shirt sales, sponsorship and competition progress would go a long way to "paying off the fees/wages"}

Agree0 Disagree0

So why can our club not do thease sort of deals ??

{Ed022's Note - Honestly, I don't know. Its a sort of speculate to accumulate transfer which isn't something the Arsenal board like to do. Imagine if we were to sign Sneijder. Can you imagine how many people would get his name and number on the back? Nike sponsor Arsenal and he is one of their "poster boys" for their advertising. If we were to sign him our sponsorship would increase. Obviously on a footballing side, he would help us win trophies and go further in competitions thus gaining us more money/revenue...}

Agree0 Disagree0

I wish we were on the board, we'd get Sneijder in with that logic.

Rob

Agree0 Disagree0

You have to remember Wenger will be careful about spending, If he spends 60M plus and still doesnt win any thing and only manages 4th. His career may just be finished.
D1

{Ed022's Note - If he doesn't spend and we still finish 4th or less then he will be hounded out anyways! He may as well spend some money. Go out fighting!}

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has a team list yet? STILL nothing on the Arsenal site.

I would love to AOC play, no matter what happens he would give it such a good go that alone would be worth a watch. I'll be annoyed if he's on the bench and we don't see him. Can't wait to see Gerv in action again either.

Raz

Believable17 Unbelievable6

Whould be realesed around 5-30

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the team picks itself virtually;
Szczesny
Sagna Djourou Vermaelen Traore
Walcott Rosicky Song Frimpong Gervinho
Van Persie

I think Wenger will rest Jenkinson & Ramsey as they have been playing too often for young players & will be need for Sunday, when Song, Frimpong & Gervinho are all banned, hence Wenger should & hopefully will play them tonight.

Agree0 Disagree0

My tip:
Szczesny - Jenkinson, Djourou, Vermaelen, Sagna - Walcott, Rosicky, Song, Frimpong, Gervinho - RVP
pretty much the same, only Sagna on the LB and Jenkinson on the right

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't believe in a vital game you're calling for AOC to "get a run", seriously its a must win game (by no means a certainty) and you want an inexperienced boy played? You need your head examined, by all means give him a run in Carling Cup, or prem game where we have comfortable lead, but definitely not tonight

Agree0 Disagree0

Er, no I don't need my head examined, I just feel that he'd be more of a threat than Walcott, the lad is as big as Ramsey and having just signed for Arsenal he is probably brimming with confidence and would be desperate to impress. Jenko played in a big game twice, he's only a kid, and not big, he's been great, no reason why AOC couldn't be the same at all. I admit it's a punt but with the form of Arshavin, Walcott and Ramsey so utterly woeful it could be a punt that paid off handsomely.

Raz

Agree0 Disagree0

More of a threat than Walcott? Are you forgetting who scored our goal last wednesday and on any other day would have netted another?
Experience will be the key tonight.

J

{Ed022's Note - I thought at the time that save in the last minute from Handanovic could be MASSIVE. 2-0 lead going into this game is a completely different story. Would have taken a lot of pressure off. However, I still feel we'l have enough to get through...}

Agree0 Disagree0

I know he scored. I did watch. I was gutted his other one was saved. I really want Walcott to play as a centre forward. If he was a centre forward I would choose him first any time, but he ISN'T centre forward, he gets played on the wing. So I am saying I'd rather see what AOC can do on the wing instead of Walcott. If Walcott stays on the pitch in the middle or even on the left cutting in on the right that would do it for me. My focus is not so much Walcott of the pitch, rather AOC on it regardless.

Agree0 Disagree0

AOC to start as a bench player coming on for gervinho.

Although id like to see one youngster play, namely Miyaichi

id like to see it as

Szczesny
Jenkinson Djourou Vermaelan Sagna
Song Frimpong
Gervinho Van Persie Miyaichi
Walcott

I dont think ive hated a man more.

Believable48 Unbelievable3

Lol,yup hes a person

{Ed022's Note - Change person to a body part that only men have...Sounds like quick...}

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly hate nasri the most of all. Nasri wanting to leave came from nowhere. I still think man city has the potential to implode and that will b the best day of my life. I used to hate man utd but they are angels compared to the other scum

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest, recently when ive heard him speak, his definitely changed since what happened at the african cup nations....

Agree0 Disagree0

Look on the bright side, Adebayor is a disruptive influence and might scr*w things up for them.

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO I think Nasri tried to pull a Rooney just to try get more money from the club. However the attention he attracted and the ongoing situation at Arsenal, made him soon consider his option. Always the same story though. Not that hes Foriegn, remember a certain Ashley Cole.
D1

Agree0 Disagree0

Fail. Nasri wanted a better contract, nothing like what has been spouted in the press. He also wanted assurances that a couple of experienced and world class players were coming into the team. AW wanted to facilitate this, went to the board and said so - his reasoning was that instead of paying people like Bendtner, Denilson far more than they are worth (and almost on a par with top players like Nasri, RVP) the club should be paying current market rate wages to world class players and the rest whatever they are worth. AW doesn't negotiate wages IG does. This is also the reason we cannot sign decent players. The facts are that the board will not countenance top wages for top players. The facts are that signing a world class player isn't just a case of stumping-up £30M+ you need to take into account wages over a 3-5 year period that can add huge amounts to any deal. Anyone that doubts Nasri is world class needs to ask themselves why he is attracting the interest from clubs such as RM, MUFC & MCFC. Nasri is about to have the best 2-3 seasons football of his career - unfortunately not in an Arsenal shirt. I love my club but if I was a pro footballer in his position I would be off to a team that matched my ambitions - Arsenal don't or rather the board don't, they simply want to get the stadium paid off, see their share values increase and rake it in. Some of you lot need to get real.

The two players who are the only world class standard in the current Arsenal transfer rumours have ruled out a move to Arsenal, Hazard and Mertsacker.

We have been linked with moves for Doyle, Jagielka, Dann and Arteta. Now I'm sorry if i offend anyone but these guys are not world class players, if they were they would have been snapped up by now and wouldn't be playing for a team battling for relegation or not even making it for the l squad for there country. Anyone agree?

Home and Away Gooner

Believable34 Unbelievable10

I agree they are not all world class. But i think at arsenal a couple of them could become very quickly. The way i see it is if we signed those 4 then we would have a very strong team with many options to last us all season. I would call it second tier signings which could happen if we didnt qualify for CL. But really they would be pretty good for us rather than NO signing right?.

Agree0 Disagree0

It Shows Your Arrogance Mertsackers Team Were Also Battling Relegation

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on.. The following would be great signings to give us renewed confidence & please the supporters;
Gary Cahill, Samba, Hazard, Tarabt, M'Vila, Tevez (on loan)... This would give us many options.

Agree0 Disagree0

Home and Away Gooner you are wrong about Arteta he is an absolutely outstanding player, he has just had a terrible injury history. Don't forget he was out for something like 6 months, came back, and then was out for a year because of his right knee. Alos Fabregas is widely considered to be one of the top 3 mids int he world but he doesn't start for Spain does he? Maybe he will soon but in previous years he hasn't. Fact is Spain have the best mids in the world and Arteta, although amazing, doesn't quite reach that level.

Doyle is pants, Jags is not as good as everyone makes out (I'd rather have Distin at CB) and Dann is a fantastic defender. When he was playing 2 seasons ago Birmingham had the best defence in the league and he was at the heart of it. He is probably the most under-rated defender in the prem actually. if he put in the same performances for us or Everton as he did at Birmingham then he would be priced at probably 15 mil.

Just because Hazard has said he isn't moving doesn't mean a thing, forget the media mate you know it's all nonsense. They'll say whatever they are told to in order to keep the price right.

Doesn't one season mate, not every season, he used to be a champions league player.

Haha Mertsacker is hardly world class- speak to some german fans, they will happily tell you about Mertsacker...no better than kos and certainly not better than tv5

{Ed022's Note - Mats Hummels is a far better player. Younger, tall and class defender who can play out from the back.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Mertsacker 70 odd caps for Germany, hes a bit like Terry for England slow not too much skill but can defend for his life, thats what we need

Home and away Gooner, does that mean you're Australian?

I would hate to think of you attending every match, but not understanding what your watching, because to be honest, your knowledge of football is poor.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the above poster, think Dann would be a great acquisition, massively under rated. Also agree that some of the aforementioned players may not YET be world class, just as many of our previous transfers have not been world class when they arrive. However, am confident that they could develop into world class players (as others have before them) under the tutelage of Arsene and the coaching staff.

Two 29 year old players who have suffered injuries at a cost of £28m Gary Cahill is a must & Tarabt would be far better purchases.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree on Cahill, as I think he'd partner Vermaelen better. Taraabt, however, seems far too temperamental and not the type of character I'd want to rely upon as the creative hub of our squad. Would rather we signed Montolivo as a deeper playmaker and pushed Wilshere into the AM role when he's fit again.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we are limited in who we can buy, with the window closing. Cahill is purchaseable, Tarabt could be as well. I would try & prise Hazard & M'Vila with high offers & see if its possible to get Tevez on loan as part of the City deal. These are the type of purchases we need urgently, failing which I cannot see us qualifying for the CL next season.

Arsenal are targeting 4 signings, they are:

Phil jagielka - everton - 16m
Kara mbodj - tromso - 3.5m
peter utaka - odense - 6m
riccardo montolivio 11m

couple of good signings, & a couple of typical wenger
signings, better than nothing tho

might be something to do with us:everton trying to get Patrick van Aanholt on loan. Moyes does not have cover for his England left-back Leighton Baines .Baines may yet be a big-money target for one of the big guns in the summer transfer window. via mirror
