I absolutely admire cesc for the way hes handled this situation...he wants out probably...but hes not handed a transfer request or moaned or insulted us...he even turned down the chance for more money with REAL or CITY. He truly does love barca...for that im sure arsenal will always be in his heart...

As for Nasri...i thought he was a good guy. Clearly does not care about the team...its all about the money.

City? Really? are they really a big club? Ive lost all respect for this player...please sell him...hes half the talent and half the man cesc is...

We will be ok without these guys...i think Wilshere, Frimpong, Ramsey, Song, Arshavin, Gervinho will keep us afloat...

All wenger needs to do is promote a few players and Buy Mata and a defender...jagielka will do fine...

I believe...do you?

Believable8 Unbelievable6

Well said mate, couldn't agree more

Agree0 Disagree0

Cesc going public last year will cost us money. Everyone knows that he'll only go to Barca which stops a bidding war and keeps the price down. Admire him all you like but building a team round him has won us nothing and before he hits his peak he wants out at a discounted price. Let him go and rest his hamstrings on the bench at Barca.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need a new central midfielder with experience (world class) to nuture our youn talent, without one Wilshere and Ramsey won't leanr off each other

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha...exactly only "keep us afloat" you just said it...i dunno bout you but im tired of just "staying afloat" its about time this club aims at "speed boating to the TOP"

Scooby dooby K

Agree0 Disagree0

No

Jags is not tall enough and he's a crock, Cahill and Samba, a LB and DM, then i'll believe a bit more....

Agree0 Disagree0

I blame wenger not cesc for the lack of trophies...i have seen him play injured to help us win. hes only 24...and everyone around him was younger...besides RVP who was always injured and almunia who is well...you know..

I think if we had xavi or iniesta it would be the same...you need to build around a player...not buy kids and wait for them to grow...everyone but wenger saw this coming. I wud not wait around to win one trophy after 10 years at this pace...if im a football talent i want to win everyyear.

Agree0 Disagree0

At no point has Nasri ever said he wants to leave or wants to join city I reckon he hasnt signed a contract because Wenger hasnt strengthened the squad enough. I think good signings are whats he's waiting on and if AW doesn't strengthen then we wont sign. He wants to win stuff, simple.. can you blame him for that?? NO......

Captain next season:

Vermaelen - Agree

van Persie - Disagree

Ben

Believable26 Unbelievable11

Fabregas heard it here first.

Agree0 Disagree0

Vermaelen captain and van Persie vice captain is surely agreeable for everyone. van Persie deserves it for his dedication, but the leadership should come from the back, as it does with all great teams. Someone who can see the players and the flow of the game in front of him. Vieira for us, Beckenbauer for... well, everything, etc. Vermaelen will do well.

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually think Van Persie should be the captain, as Vermaelen was just as good without the captaincy at getting the other players organised.

Van Persie when he has played as captain always sees more of the ball, so if TV5 stays fit enough just to be there in the back line - I think VP as captain could be a shrewd move. We are Arsenal we should have somebody more attacking as captain as a sign of intent. {Ed022's Note -

Oh man, I bet that guy who kept insisting that we would sign Santi Carzola i enjoying himself, there were a lot of doubters myself included but everywhere seems to have this story now.

Believable2 Unbelievable9

I bet you're that guy and I haven't seen the rumor anywhere

{Ed022's Note - Arsenal will NOT sign Santi Carzola....}

I think AW has some business to do this summer if ;

1. Sell Nasri - it makes no sense to allow him go for free in one year when you can get over 20 million today.

2. Sell Fabregas - for 35 million plus with a loan back clause for one year. This is a win win arrangement for all.

3. The above gives you 55 million and you still has the services of Fabregas for next season which can be invested in buying Mata, a CB and LB.

4. I think Wallcot should be moved as a striker. But a back up to VP in a 4231 formation. Chamak seems lost. He should be the third option.

4. Gibbs is not up to it. AW should invest in a LB.

Believable14 Unbelievable5

The Reason Wenger Doesn't Play Him As A Striker Is Because His Finishing Is Poor

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would you want Fabregas for another year He wouldnt care and he would always be crying off with injuries. Just sell him for 40 million so I dont have to listen to it anymore

Agree0 Disagree0

Your second point very interesting it would make a lot of sense have too say i wholeheartedly agree a good point well put

Agree0 Disagree0

Walcott is already a striker, look at the first team on arsenal.com, he is in the strikers section

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Barcelona agree to buy and loan back? If they could just sign him next year they'll pay less than this year. If they want him now, they'll keep him, not give him straight back.

With the recent speculation I think it is likely that there will be increased movement with regard to players brought in during the next week.

I think it is likely that a fee will be agreed with Everton for the transfer of Phil Jagielka after Wenger admitted the requirement for another defender.

There is also a slight chance Wenger will firm up his interest in Romelu Lukaku this week in an attempt to secure his services ahead of Chelsea.

Other rumours about players joining the club such as, Scott Parker, Santi Cazorla and Juan Mata are largely dependent on the potential sales of Cesc Fabregas and/or Samir Nasri.

In addition, we can also expect a few squad players to leave this week, including; Manuel Almunia, Emmauel Eboue, Nicklas Bendtner and a number of other youngsters, either on loan or permanently

Believable14 Unbelievable3

Have to be 20+ mil for jag he is the best english cb.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scott Parker is not good enough to be an Arsenal player. AW will never sign him

Agree0 Disagree0

Scott Parker is exactly what is required in the midfield A bit of aggression along with good technical abilities Either him or Joey Barton

anybody else notice de jong at city is looking to go... how about an exchange for nasri?
also jenkinson OG.. not to worry lad... lee dixon did the same and look how great he was....

The Night Doctor..

Believable12 Unbelievable15

I wondered about de jong on hearing that news today as well- he would add that steel in the middle of the park we're missing for sure. Not sure if he would want to come to arsenal ? Plus I suspect his current wages are too high now, let alone improving upon them. But in principle I think he would be a good signing- just don't see it happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't take De Jong if he came free and gift-wrapped, Never happen.

arsenal are going to bid £12 million for jagielka

Believable24 Unbelievable14

No we bid 12 we are going to up it

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Jags but can help thinking that maybe his purchase is a couple years too late and maybe we should spend the money elsewhere

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually we bid £12m last season... We bid £10m last week and are going back up to £12m this coming week.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not convinced everton will accept the improved bid- I think they are looking at selling b4 buying, so they might do, but I reckon they'll say sod off and come back with 15, imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm surprised Wenger will spend that much on a 28 year old. Cahill at 25 would be money better spent in my opinion.

Just my views but here goes ...
Sell - fabregas 30 mil plus affelay
Bendtner - 8mil
Eboue - 4 mil
Almunia - 1 mil
Add the 7 mil we already got for clichy
Money in = 50 mil and affelay

Spend -
Mata - 20 mil
Jagielka - 15 mil
Gervinho - 11 mil
Jenkinson - 1 mil
Affelay - part of fab deal
Spent - 47 mil

That leaves us 3 million in the plus, then if nasri goes, get as much as we can for him 25 mil is possible, use that money to try and sign a striker ( ideally benzema but if that doesn't happen possibly lacina traore who's a much cheaper option) and shaqiri who will cost less that 10 millon

This means we will most probably spend 10 million maximum.. Does this sound plausible or am I living in dream world?
Db7

Believable13 Unbelievable24

People still act like we HAVE TO SELL to make money. We're already at least £45m in the plus now, before any kind of sales...

Agree0 Disagree0

Everybody and their dog know we dont HAVE to sell to buy as we have money, but this is arsenal we're talking about, its how we work its been the same for the last 6+ years now .. and he is showing no signs of changing that this season
Db7

Agree0 Disagree0

Virtually every season gazidis or a spokesman for arsenal states that arsenal have a large/substantial, etc transfer budget- that's *before* selling any players...as the guy posted above, it's not having the money that's the problem, it's the spending of it...after all these years I cannot see that it will change- I really wouldn't have too high expectations if I was you.

whats the chances of cesc being sold this week for 35mil + add ons, mata signed for 20mil and jagielka for 15mil??

either way, still not convinced our defence is upto it and really hope wenger signs a solid cb.

Believable16 Unbelievable13

Every arsenal fan wants wenger to sign a new center back. is jagielka the center back we need he is too small, gary cahill would be a better choice for arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

Another fan obsessed by signing a tall defender. Is Jags even short? Are Vidic and Terry giant defenders? No, but both are monsters in the air, due to timing and commitment (something that Vermaelen showed in his first season too by the way). Cahill is supposedly the best defender in a Bolton back line that shipped goals for fun last season. Not saying he's a bad player, but can't see him coming in and organising our defence in a commanding manner, especially the full backs. Personally i would love to see Jags in our back four along side Kos or Vermaelen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cesc can go, he is a quality player but at the end of the day he is not a play with arsenal in his heart anymore, get 35mill+, buy in young and exciting players like Mata, get some premier league experienced defenders such as Jag and Cahill, and start moving nasri into centre mid, the young guns like Ramsey, Wilts are already coming along well, use the good young guns like lansbury ect to bolster squad for early stages of cups, simple really ha ha ha

Agree0 Disagree0

Jagielka is 5ft 11.despite vermaelen being quality he is also only 5ft 11 .You cant have 2 small center backs @ set peices.arsenal need a vidic type of defender

Agree0 Disagree0

Vidic isnt even that tall. theres only 3inches difference between jags and vidic. and before say 3 inches makes a difference i agree, but any defender who has good timing and commitment in the air will beat the striker 90% of the time. height isnt everything in footy. know im gonna get slated but anyone remember a tricky lil italian who used to play for chelsea? 5'7" and scored many a header.

I would love to be able to stay positive, and keep thinking oh we will survive without cesc. But watching him on youtube and seeing some of his games last season, i realised how much our team would miss him. He has experience and is one of our only world class players. Every arsenal fan is hoping the money from Cesc sales would be spent on two if not 3 players, but when you face reality, if we are lucky we might get one player (juan Mata) and the rest will be pocketed by the board. Cesc's departure will leave a gap in our team and Jack and Aarom cant fill this yet, YET. We need another world class players in midfield to play the cheeky through balls, and chips over the tops, and with great skills, to replace fab, but what are the chances of that?

Tommy P

Believable17 Unbelievable11

Cesc is world class, but i'm tired of a player that plays 17 games out of 38 games/season...

Agree0 Disagree0

Ready made replacement is already in our squad. Samir Nasri should move to central mid-field, if and when Cesc goes home to Barca. He has the vision to pick out a pass like Cesc does and I think would fill that central role very well.
However, if we loose Nasri as well, then I think we may struggle.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did u see wilshere's two passes that led to two goals yesterday?

Agree0 Disagree0

Its also not just signing a replacement, its who will be good enough and how much?

there isn't many world class midfielders out there for that price that would be available. (by this i mean truly world class)

nasri should just leave arsenal...dont think he is worth all that hype looking at his stats...nasri...30games 10 goals 1assist...if thats wht you fellow gooners want to replace cesc thn we are doomed let him leave..qnd please dont tell me he played on the wing...walcot did an here are his stats..theo 28games 9goals 7 assists..so sell nasri fast..he evenhad only one good tackle just 1 a whole season.
kenyan gooner

Believable10 Unbelievable6

Mate what you perhaps have to consider is that like Modric Nasri is a playmaker. He got 10 goals as a midfielder, Walcott technically got 9 goals as a forward. Assists doesn't always define your play-making ability, end of the day Arshavin has the most assists I believe and many fans want him sold - so put the stats into context.

I agree he isn't worth the hype, but I'd say he's definitely worth hanging on to.

Raz

Agree0 Disagree0

Good shout. AA's stats are probably superior too and he had much less starts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually nasri scored most of his goals when walcott was injured and he was playing on the right. stupidly people reckon we should sell fabregas and stick nasri in his place, a player who is no better then denilson in that position. i would actually rather have diaby in their but the guy is always injured. definitely not worth the hype.

Agree0 Disagree0

Theres alot more to it that just goals and assists nasri is a top player and with the right defence and Gk over the last few years we would of won so much , wenger OUT dont care what all u loyal blind lot say on here , its time for him to go

tony too

Agree0 Disagree0

The original poster is a moron. If and when Cesc departs Nasri is the best player left in the squad by a mile. He also gave more than Cesc last season. Most of what is being written abut Nasri the last month is bo*loc*s. How anyone can question Nasri's quality is beyond me, but what do I know? Perhaps we should just auction him off between MCFC, MUFC and CFC? Muppet

couple of rumours i saw today on BBC....

Arsenal is set to "hijack" Lukaku from chelsea (not really hijacking if he has been a long term target for us too)

hopefully this one is true. He'd be a great player with unlimited potential

Arsenal are interested in Santi Cazorla

Don't have much of an opinion on this one seeing as i don't know the player well enough to make any sort of criticism of him

Galatasaray has apparently bid 4mil for Eboue

that is interesting, and maybe we could squeeze a little more out of Galatasaray. Wouldn't be against selling him but only if that means we search for another player who we can slot into the RB/LB position

Having just seen the Arsenal - Cologne game it doesn't seem to be all doom and gloom, Gervinho looked great playing as a striker I thought he was going to be used more as a winger but with his runs and finishing I can see how he scored more goals than Hazard. Frimpong seemed promising muscling people off and winning balls Wenger has great faith in him and I can see why. If Arshavin gives the same amount of commitment as he did in this game we'll be seeing the Arshavin we bought in the first three months of his Arsenal career. If we lose Nasri and Fab we have great players in Walcott, Vermalaen (loved seeing him wearing the armband) and RVP.

It is just the defense and unlike others I don't think we need 2 new cb's Djourou and Koscielny are good as backup and still young.

Ed - How do you feel about players like Rosicky and Eboue? I like both players especially Eboue, but I WANT to like Rosicky he just seems spent. {Ed002's Note - I expect Rosicky to leave and I reckon Eboue may leave as well.}

dear edds great sight by the way.about fab please if you have any thoughs.some edds have said if arsenal or liverpool make a bid for mata barcelona will make a bid.also some edds have said the new russian man city are preparing a 100m euro bid for ganso and neymar but the top man in santos wants neymar to go to barca.

so having just bought sanchez for 23m perhaps rising by 11.5m maybe related to appearences or winng trophies.will they push for fab and will it be similar to the sanchez deal and not 35m up front.would barca buy all four players. {Ed002's Note - Regardless of what has happened with Sanchez, I expect that Fabregas will be gone this summer. Barcelona have been selling on some players in order to raise cash for the purchase of Sanchez and Fabregas. I would stop worrying about Fabregas and start thinking about what needs to be done to keep Nasri. As an aside, the Russian club I have mentioned is Anzhi Makhachkala, you need to remember their name as you will be hearing a lot more of them. The other club that is upping their profile is of course Malaga.}
