I'd rather higuain for 20m-25m
then spend 5m on ???

Agree0 Disagree0

Really? One of my fav players but cant see it happening to be honest. Sadly.

Agree0 Disagree0

He'd Be Better Than Huguaine

CaughtOffside by any chance?

No one of any class will move to Arsenal with the current uncertainties. It seriously looks like the end of Champions league football, and most of the stars would be cup tied at this stage for the current season. Arsenal are in turmoil and with the superstars leaving in their droves, it seems unlikely that any class player would join. Only RVP and Willshire left with real class, and perhaps Vermaelen in defence. The rest are woefully over rated and not top 5 material.

The sad truth for Arsenal is they will now see just how much they relied on the likes of Clichy, Sol Campbell, Gallas, Nasri, Eboue and Fabregas. These player provided the steel and guts tot he side, and Nasri and Fabregas provided the brilliance to unlock team and bring the front line into play.

The days when Arsneal could attract Marc Overmars, Adebayor, Denis Bergkamp, Henry, Ljungberg, Pires and even Van Bronkhorst are over. Arsenal will now need to look towards the likes of Stepanov, Cygan, Bendtner and co.

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^ Shut Up All These Players Were Nobodies Before Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

To the poster that said Arsenal will no longer attract Overmars, Adebayor, Henry, Ljungberg etc! Are you insane? we MADE them the players they were!
Col

Agree0 Disagree0

You say Overmars, Adebayor, Bergkamp, Henry, Ljungberg, Pires and Van Bronkhorst like these players were at the peak of their careers when we signed them which couldn't be further from the truth with Overmars (questions over fitness) , Adebayor (relatively unknown), Bergkamp ( had scored something like 10 goals in 2 years at Milan), Henry (3 goals in 16 at Juve), Ljungberg (completely unknown), and Van Bronkhorst (Scottish league, always a risk) so i really don't see you point unless its let Wenger do his job !he has a history of buying unknown/struggling players and making them great players and then proving you don't need to attract Superstars.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pedro? lol...not happening.

If you have not noticed messi and pedro are youngsters and they are there for the long haul, the only player they are likely to offload maybe david villa who turns 30 this year...but he wont be on the market for another two years.

Agree0 Disagree0

As far as higuain is concerned he has not voiced any displeasure over his role and even the purchase of neymar wont involve a sale from madrid as neymar will start from the bench...

Just to note when has real madrid sold a vital player in his prime? such as higuain and benzema who are under 25 years of age.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barca want Walcrock. So lets do a swap deal with Pedro :-). More than a win win for us!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well it is true Arsenal have burgers many talents but corporate greed has seen too many leave and the acquisition process has run out of luck.

Whilst I have to agree with some of the player form comments, do not try to believe that you made all these players through brilliant coaching and management.

So let's look at the so called flops who were exalted to stardom.

Take Adebayor who cost 7m back in 2005, hardly unknown or not rated.

Walcott 9.1m the same year, hardly the kid for 100k story you hear most Gooner profess.

Or was it the previously unknown Hleb who the misery Arsenal shelled out 11.2m for.

Perhaps it was Reyes who cost 13m years before that. Or was it Van Bronkhorst who you made from a little known Scottish club
with little previous form but the Arsenal board decided to pay 8.5m back in 2001 when that was an insane amount of money.

Perhaps you nurtured the raw talent from Pires who you acquired for a tiny 6m back in 2000. Perhaps Thiery Henry was a station porter at Gard De Nord before the amazing Arsenal nurtured him to success, or maybe Arsenal paid 10.5m in 1999 along with Lauren for 7.2m. The Gooner hype will gave you believe both were nothing before they came to Arsenal, so why pay the sort of transfer fees the top stars were attracting.

Now to be fair there are success stories like RVP a few million for a relatively unknown player. The same for Kolo Toure who cost literally nothing, and Fabregas, Eboue and Flamini but stop believing all were unknown free transfers.

The truth is you got lucky with Fabregas, Toure, Flamini and Eboue and the luck ran out. Arsenal are in big trouble and the panic buying of recent years has set them on a path to failure. Let's look at the fantastic purchases.

Gervinho 10.6m - Average at best
Oxlaide Chamberlain - 12m risky business
Andre Santos - 6.2m Who ?
Mertesaker - 10m Tall German and poor
Arteta - 10m Old injury prone and okish
Kosielny - 10m lmao
Squillaci - 4m omg are you serious
Vermaelen - 10m (Actually a great buy)
Arshavin - 15m No wonder Russia has all the money.

Hardly the most inspiring group of players for around 100m.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well im gonna skip the writeup and get to your breakdown.

Gervinho average? so you would rather have henderson who is actually average?

AOC is risky business but he has the talent to succeed and we can all see it..sometimes you need to gamble.

Andre santos has still not slotted in but he is a decent buy for a backup and he is always causing the opposition fullback problems...the only downside is that he lacks defensive awareness but for the past few games he's been better than evra so i'll keep him.

Mertesacker and koscielny are keeping us in better form then you would know. For a combined 20 mill they have played better than all of man utd defenders who have allowed close to 18 shots a game at their goal this season compared to 11 from ours.

Arteta has played his heart out and he maybe old but hes got spirit.

Arshavin on his day is a match winner hes been off form and maybe sold soon but again its a risk buying players not all work out.

maybe your unhappy we dont have real madrid or barcelona players, but the fact that we started so badly and slowly put on a run and recovered ground should show that we do have talent.

We are also missing our starting CB our starting RB and our starting CM all of who are world class.

So as much as you may want to think we have a rubbish squad you just have a rubbish mentality...get behind your team you muppet.

Sorry but I have to address this.

1) Gervinho was cheap for a player of his position, with his record, and a league winner, in today's climate. 10.6m is NOTHING for a striker as good as him. We have been woeful going forward and he still gets a goal or assist almost every game. You are wrong.
2) AOC -yes it was risky and yes I was fuming that we chose him over more 'suitable' targets at the time, whoever he is worth every penny, his U21s and current Arsenal record prove this. Your point is redundant, it was no more of a risk than anyone we signed and so far it as paid off.
3) Andre Santos, Brasil left back, that's who. He has experience and quality, he will need time to adapt as EPL is not exactly home to Brasil on or off the pitch and aside from his risky flair, he is good. For 6m I would never complain. It is too early to call him as a player though so for now why on't you shut up, look at his CV and wait before judging?
4) Metesacker - tall is great, he is so far positionally great, and so what if he is German. I am half German, do you have some kind of racial issue with Germans? Aside from the fact that he is part of one of the greatest international defences of the last 15 years I really do not get what point you are making here?
5) Arteta - I don't care what anyone says he is a top quality player and the only reason he wasn't plucked from Everton sooner is due to his injury record. But he is still a top class player and when he is fully confident he will show this. Do not underestimate the affect it had on all our signings joining us when they did.
6) Koscielny is perhaps the first price tag I am surprised about. However, had Vermaelen been fit last season nobody would be laughing because they were destined for one for the strongest partnerships in the league. Instead, Kos walked into this club and had to play with Djourou and Squillaci for most for the season. The little we have seen of him this season he has been outstanding and his game against Barca last year alone justified his asking price. Do not ignore the context surrounding these players.
7) Squillaci - utterly shocking purchase, agreed.
8) Probably the league's purchase of the season defensively. 'Great' doesn't come close.
9) 13m for Arshavin and he was worth every penny for his first 2 seasons. He was statistically the league's 5th best midfielder last season and the season before that he absolutely annihilated the league - again, you're making out like it has been a poor purchase and it really hasn't what are you on about? Yes his form sucks right now, but that was probably the best 13m the club has paid for a long time.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the poster, who quoted 100 mln. Firstly, you recognise that in almost all of the cases you mentioned, it was not outright cash up front. We DID NOT pay 12mln for AoC.

Arsenal structure transfers to higly correlate the fee paid to the future value of the player. Upfront is to buy out the contract and the rest is based on goals scored, appearances, etc.

Buy the time we pay out 12mln for AoC, he will be worth double that.

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance but if this is true hopefully happens because this kid is a world class player

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly the responses I expected from t
Arsenal fans. Professional stiff upper lip and overly optimistic. Credit must go to Arsenal for actually maintaining some level of performance when the squad is so weak. I have to be honest I see the following for 2011 - Man City easy winners, Chelsea 2nd, Man Utd 3rd, Tottenham 4th, Liverpool 5th, and 6th is a crap shoot with Aston Villa, Newcastle, Sundetland, Arsenal and even Stoke. I know it is hard to accept but Arsenal have no longer got the profile or security of progression that you see with other clubs. If you are a star player in another club what possibly would attract you to Arsenal. The fact the new stadium acoustics destroy the atmosphere, maybe the low wages, perhaps the certainty of Uefa Cup football or perhaps the chance to improve themselves alongside Fabregas and Nasri.

There is only one way to reverse the rot in my opinion. Get rid of Wenger, change the wage structure, buy massive in January to plug the gap and start having a reality check in the mirror before it is too late. I am not suggesting you are a Leeds or Nottingham Forest, but history provides lessons. One thing you have is RVP but seriously one injury and the ship would go down.

Pedro is not even a legitimate target so please stop being silly. You need Cahill, Hazard and Higuain but you won't get any of them.

Arsenal are contemplating a £12million January bid for Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan.

The Gunners want the 21-year-old to resolve the shortage of midfield options following last summers departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

Manager Arsene Wenger is still understood to be in the market for a top class midfielder from Europe but is aware all his targets will be cup tied for the Champions League latter stages.

Instead, buoyed by the emergence of Aaron Ramsey, Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin, he will just boost his squad numbers and wait for his star until next summer.

Bannan has impressed this season under Alex McLeish at Villa Park. His form has caught the attention of Scotland boss Craig Levein and even Man Uniteds Sir Alex Ferguson.

Wenger hopes a £10million plus £2million in add-ons will be enough to lure him away from Villa.

Meanwhile goalkeeper Manuel Amunias extension of his loan at West Ham depends on Robert Greens recovery from surgery.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce confirmed Green is progressing well from his operation and the Hammers boss will not rush into a decision regarding Almunia.

Rob is recovering well, he said. We will see how he is doing before we decide on whether to extend Manuels stay from Arsenal.

would not mind bannan but id rather bent from aston villa

Didnt we agree to ban all caughtoffside rumours?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 million for bannan? thats more like a cheeky bid for rodwell that he would put in.

Arsenal are reportedly bracing themselves for a double bid from Anzhi Makhachkala to sign Andrei Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci.
The big-spending Russians are one of the most ambitious clubs in Europe, having already made Samuel Eto'o the highest paid player on the continent in the summer, and are eager to continue their spending.

Arshavin has been linked with a move back to his homeland before and the latest reports suggest that Anzhi are lining up a move when the transfer window reopens in the new year which will also see Squillaci move east.

Arshavin made a big impression when he first arrived at the Emirates Stadium but his performances over the last 12 months have attracted growing criticism and forced boss Arsene Wenger to publicly back him last week.

Squillaci, meanwhile, has struggled to make an impact since his move to the Premier League at the start of last season and the 31-year-old Frenchman's chances of first-team football appear increasingly limited following the arrival of German Per Mertesacker and the impending return to full fitness of Thomas Vermaelen.

YESSSSS

Here's hoping!

Agree0 Disagree0

Squillachi yes please...arhsavin not for 8 mill...we need atleast 12, hes still worth something to us...we may not see it but he can win us games and we cant afford to sell and not buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does bracing and the term 'willing it to happen' mean the same thing now? i hope so

Agree0 Disagree0

"bracing" eh? Arsene should be jumping up and down for an offer on AA and SS. hey put them together - AASS :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Highest paid player on the continent seems to play down Eto'o's wage a little, surely no other player in the world earns more.

Agree0 Disagree0

By all means, sell the Squid.

Arshavin? Keep him. He's mentioned recently how he feels he really has been playing below standard. He came out and had a great match against both Stoke and Sunderland. We all know Arshavin is extremely talented, it's his desire and work ethic that are questionable. That drive and inspiration mostly comes from within. If he was serious about what he said recently, that he really wants to improve, then we will have that fantastic player we had when he was first signed. He has far too much to offer to go to a club like Anzhi (people can say that about Eto'o too but Eto'o had already achieved everything).

Agree0 Disagree0

Shava with a storming performance over Bolton. Great awareness and showed his worth in the second half against prem opposition (don't let Bolton's s**tty league position fool you, they have played the best teams in the EPL in 6 matches)
