According to goal.com Roma have agreed a 5.2m deal for Stekelenburg. If this is true what is Wenger doing? Sell Almunia and Fabianski leaving us with Stekelenburg, Szczesny and Mannone. Goalkeepers sorted for many years.

The reason we need a new goalkeeper is simple.. if Szczesny gets a long term injury we are f***ed again as Fabianski will do the opposite of his job and cost us points. I can't believe no-one else wants another keeper brought in. Very naive to think we'll be okay in that department this season.

Believable14 Unbelievable9

Was going to post exactly this before I read this. I totally agree, yes Szczesny is a decent keeper. However he is young and inexperienced, Stekelenburg isn't that much more experienced however he is a solid starting international keeper and is still considered young for a keeper as they seem to go on forever nowadays.

As you said if Wojciech gets injured we're stuck with Flappyanski and we don't want that, I say Stekelenburg No.1 and Szczesny No.2 Send the others on loan but dont sell them they do have some potential

Agree0 Disagree0

Fabianski was pretty good before he got Injured and now he's got confidence he's a pretty decent goalie. We don't need a goalkeeper, szczesny will be Our goalkeeper for a good 10 years and if we get someone like stekelenberg it will just be a massive waste of talent and it will probably lead to Szcznesy leaving. We need a Centre-back and a Striker (to cover for African nations when chamakh, Song, And Gervinho go). Stop moaning.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you think Fabianski is adequate cover then my faith in humanity is all but gone. How many years did Ben Foster sit on Utd's bench? That's the problem with this club there is NO competition for places worth talking about. Fabianski isn't even close to being good enough to push Szczesny therefore he won't work hard to excel and become complacent so THAT is the waste of talent. I'd definately rather have TWO good goalkeepers than one cos when you have just one and he gets injured you're buggered

Agree0 Disagree0

Fabianski played as many games as szczesny last season and i can't remember him making a single mistake. wonderful saves, just little problems with crosses but nothing big. great goalie he'll fight for the no 1 spot with szczesny

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree but wenger will only thinkk about the club in the future so sadly stekelenburg is out of the question so he should just bring a decent older keeper like Buffon for cheap and start szczesny and he's their on the bench to take over if szczesny is not up to it, From No1 GOOOONER

Agree0 Disagree0

Newcastle at the Emirates springs to mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fabianski was great when before he got injured, and wasn't much worse than Szcznesny. He's always been a pretty good goalkeeper but just lacked confidence. You could see that after he made that penalty save against partizan, he hardly made an error and pretty much won us the game away to wolves. People who still moan about fabianski didnt watch much of last year.

Gago want to return to Boca Juniors, however, interest from Arsenal may be enough to tempt him to stay in Europe.

I heard that Fabregas going for £33.5mill and thiago, Juan Mata still on going, Gary Cahill bid being prepared, Lauka could be signed if arsenal make a good enough offer, Benzema ruled out unless madrid sign another striker and finally another defender was linked; Diego Goden which could happen if arsenal bid in the region of £14-16mill.

MKDONS GOONER

Cheers, so if we bid enough for the player, then we might have a chance of getting them. leaving your options open here aren't you?

Wots ur take on the Joel Campbell saga ed? In all honesty i cant imagine many had heard of him at all but after watching youtube footage he looks a little special. I don't tend to jump on the bandwagon concerning being linked with unknowns and spouting their name at every opportunity although when the Alvarez rumours were circulating I was gutted that we missed out on him. This Joel though looks, as some blog/reporter put it, a bit of a rough diamond which i'd have to agree. Fingers crossed, it'd be great to unearth a special raw talent that will terrorise the supposedly 'new top 4' which we ain't meant to be a part of =)

Welsh Gooner {Ed002's Note - I don't have any knowledge of it. I know the second major EPL superpower to bid was Wigan and I heard he was a no show at some sort of bash Arsenal had arranged in his honour.}

Believable9 Unbelievable6

Haha media hype then eh.... and another youtube 'best bits' filmed by his father Humberto. Aye, not turning up for the supposed medical ain't exactly the best of starts to relations. The Wigan bid i wasnt aware of, maybe Rodellega's stolen Martinez's credit card in his endless attempt to engineer his move to the Emirates =)

WG

Agree0 Disagree0

I knw wenger very well thn him....he wont buy plyr aft this....he jst play rumours till closing....

Agree0 Disagree0

Him and his father stood-up an Arsenal representative who had schlepped all the way over to Central America. His club had agreed a price but the suggestion is that either his head had been turned by another club or that his father was trying to angle for a better deal or draw the attention of other clubs. His current club Saprissa were furious that he stood the rep up as they believed they had a deal worth around $1.5m. Either way Arsenal walked away from further negotiations.
Seems to me that Joel or more likely his pa are a couple of chancers and we may have saved ourselves a future headache.

Some blogs are picking up on the rumour again. Its hard to tell if the move is back on (as some suggest) or if they are digging up old news.

Just heard Arsenal have told Barcelona that they want 33 million pounds and Thiago Alcantara for Cesc. Personally i think it is a good deal.

Believable18 Unbelievable12

Be a fantastic deal.... Can't see Thiago wanting to join though somehow. =(

WG

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be ....If it was true

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah but would it be another cesc with him wanting to move when we make him the one the best mid fielders n then barca want him back so it all happen again

Agree0 Disagree0

The only way they would throw thiago in is if there was a buy back option in the contract.. cant see it happening personally though

Agree0 Disagree0

I would much rather take Afellay and try to convince Nasri to stay.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good deal but they will never give us alacantra unless we sell him back if he turns out good so take 40 million or 35 million with 2 unknown youngstars

Just read PSG are interested in Chamakh for around 15m. Link is quite dodgy, but curious what people's opinions would be on selling Chamakh, considering his poor form and lack of confidence 2nd half of last season and preseason, and holding onto Bendtner.

Believable11 Unbelievable20

He wont be going anywhere, the only reason he fizzled out 2nd half of last season was he was getting used to the physical side of the premier league..... bendtner to go for sure

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sure he improve a bit this coming season, but +£15 million in one year is a good bit of dealing. Also it's worth noting that at Arsenal his goals to games ratio is pretty much the same as at Bordeaux.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Nick, the problem is he has difficulty finding the net. Chamakh played so little last season you can't really tell but he is class. Keep him - flog Bendtner.
The reason Chamakh was played so sparingly? Another one of AW tight-arsed deals where he negotiated the deal on appearances - anything over this amount of games we have to give you another blah - million quid.
Chriss

Agree0 Disagree0

Sell, take the money and run

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that could be true but we need to give chamkh a chance i think he could be the other striker we need to fill in for RVP
when injured. chamkh just needs time with other young srikers to come in this summer as well i think that problem could be sorted

ed should we sop including carzorla and thiago in our teasor is it likely {Ed002's Note - Tough to say when I don't understand the question. Perhaps one of you buddies can help out.}

Believable1 Unbelievable8

He said Shall we stop putting Carzola and Thiago in our Teams or is it likely?

Tommy P {Ed002's Note - You can put them in your teams if you like. It is fine by me. Cazorla is still likely to head to Malaga. Their 23M euro bid has now been replaced with a 19M euro bid with several rather attactive add ons. I imagine Villarreal will sell. Thiago I don't know. I rather thought Afellay may have turned up as part of a deal for Fabregas.}

Agree0 Disagree0

ed what defender is most likely to come to us
or even out of ten how likely are they

jorgensen
cahill
samba
jagialka
sakho
vertongen
bruno uvini

as well as that is nasri more likely to stay or go

oh and what do you think about lukaku-benzema-mata-hazard coming to arsenal possible or not possible

thankyou very much Ed {Ed002's Note - Perhaps Cahill; it would be guessing about Nasri; all are possible, but none are probable.}

Believable5 Unbelievable9

Lukaku is the only striker likly to come but the defender situation is a mistery with all the possibilitys around, but my CB choices would be Mertesacker, Subotic From dortmund goin to be really good. cahill, possibly Sahko and bruno uvini would be a good young addition to the young talent at arsenal that is lacking at the back. Also i think we now need a good LB and leighton baines would be perfect to take that role in the squad

I heard a crazy rumour that Arsene Wenger might try to tempt Luka Modric to Arsenal to replace Fabregas.

{Ed022's Note - It's crazy because its not gonna happen. Spurs don't actually want to sell and have already rejected two big offers from Chelsea. One reportedly around £30m. Arsenal's transfer record is around £15m which was paid for Arshavin. To think Wenger (the same guy who looks to have Arsenal in profit every transfer window) will double (and some) his transfer record on a Spurs player is laughable. Even if he was for sale Chelsea would blow us out the water anyway...}

Believable7 Unbelievable22

Pure nonsense Toot wouldnt sell to Arsenal. Modric is overrated & overpriced. We already ahve better at the club & the last thing we need is another dwarf.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Wenger is having problems tempting anyone to Arsenal right now

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger coulda signed Modric way back and chose not to so why would he spend a squillion quid on signing him to replace Cesc? Oh, because you live in La-la land. Numpty.

25 Jul 2011 15:00:21
ok guys...i know we are all getting decidely down in the dumps about the "ins" and projected "outs" at our fine club but one little conspiracy theory came into my head.
Arsene has said that he will only sign players who he can believe will be better than what we have. so on the basis of that statement do we think we will actually sign players of a higher class than we have.
my theory is that the players we have seemed to be interested in have eventually moved to our rival clubs.
of course we were interested in the likes of phil jones and had a fleeting interest in stewart downing who moved to united and liverpool respectively, and now interest which has seemed to have appeared out of no where for lukaku.
im just wondering if the supposed bids which were submitted for these players were to be genuinely followed up....aside from jones who wenger really really wanted i honestly couldnt see the other two at the emirates.
im just wondering if this was a deliberate attempt to have teams spend their funds early this season and give us more room for movement.
just a thought.
i really hope this is the case as usually transfers are completed before the usual summer friendlys are played. im beginning to start worrying guys, but really hoping i am proved wrong and there are some good players coming in.
on a great note: gervinho looked on the level and seeing jenkinson play again i am pleased that we potentially have unearthed another gem.
sad to see young henderson have a bad day and no one likes to see that sort of injury on a young pro. hope the lad gets a big get well soon.

AC Milan have bid 35m + flamini + emmanuelson I personally would take this as it would 100% sort our defensive midefield & left back areas

shezza
sagna tv jagielka emmanuelson
flamini
gervinho wilshere mata
rvp lukaku

{Ed022's Note - Absolute rubbish. AC Milan haven't made a bid and even if they did, Cesc (as I have said numerous times) will ONLY go to Barcelona. This is a complete non-starter...}

Believable2 Unbelievable27

Lol non starter it's a complete lie.

Jagz - Not even made a decent bid
Mata - Not moving
Lukalu - Not even made a decent bid
Flamini - AW dont bring ex players back, thats why we missed, Viera, Campbell, Sidwell etc more to the point we should never of sold stuart taylor we wouldn't have had a crisis in the gk slot like like last season

ed i was hoping you can tell me if chelseas alex is a target for arsenal and also i heard that nigel de jong has stalled on a contract with city maybe a swap deal with nasri, you think this would be a good deal?

{Ed022's Note - De Jong currently gets in the region of (wait for it..) £160,000 a week! He is looking to extend his contract and boost (unbelievably...) his wages. There is no way Arsenal will top £120,000 so that is a complete non-starter! As for Alex, the usual speculation, a bit like we were linked with Salamon Kalou during the January transfer window. Wouldn't be surprised if Alex's agent wasn't angling for a new contract for him, hence the link. For me, both non-starters. Sorry!}

I don't think we need massive marquee signings. we need stability. A solid CB would be a advantage, but with thomas vermaelen back and hopefully fit, he could turn koscienly into a decent CB, however i would still get a solid CB (english or not a solid CB would do fine by me). i agree with alot of the other posts we need strength in depth, like it or not we get alot of injuries. James McCarthy, N'Zogbia, Doyle or Hunt would be great signings. We do not need attacking players we need grit players that can defend as well as attack. the defence was weak last season due to lack of experience and lack of team defending. Personally i would get James McCarthy, N'Zogbia, Doyle and a CB, would love Richards (although never going to happen) or Cahill. Let nasri do want ever nasri wants to do personally though i am sick of him, so disloyal another adebayor. I am not feed up of arsenal not winning a trophy its the manner in which they do so. we were in all four competitions and in the space of a month we had nothing left. C'mon lads thats not just the gaffers fault. we need effective premiership players like those I mentioned not Benzema or Mata. Yeah great players but with out Grit there just get beat off ball n fade away in tough games like a certain Arshavin. not even mentioning the excuse of ' THIS IS THEIR FIRST SEASON IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE THEY NEED TIME TO SETTLE'. C'mon Wenger BUY SMART NOT BIG.

Emmanuel Eboue has agreed personal terms with Galatasaray and is now destined to leave Arsenal in a deal worth around £4m.
Bossarsenal

Believable30 Unbelievable10

Well with Carl Jenkinson in at RB...eboue can go. especially for 4 million. its been tried and hes failed...time for a new guy.

{Ed022's Note - What happened to the fans who said... "Eboue's a good person to have around the dressing room!" We surely can't lose our class clown? Can we?!}

Agree0 Disagree0

True true Ed I want him 2 stay as well.
Bossarsenal...

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand why were letting him go for so little. He was a fantastic RB before Sagna came in and he's been a solid back up for the most part. Jenkinson looks quality but with our defensive problems over the last few years I'm not confident in him yet if Sagna goes down for any period of time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well im sure for locker room morale eboue would be great...but the wages hes on which should be between 30-50k a week...i think thats an expensive class clown.

He plays well in small games rubbish when the pressure is on. Its time for a new mentality...I want those players who have proven nothing to go...start again if we have to...we need to get things right...no time for sentiment...we are trying to win trophies...as much as everyone think Jenkinson is not ready he seems to have grit...and thats already made him better than eboue in my eyes.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree is a high price for a benchg player, however arsenal are losing the characters that have been there for years we need to have players that stay at arsenal and retire there. yeah its good to get the money out of them but for team sprit wise, we need players that want to stay at arsenal forever not until they can be moved on or until they want to leave. eboue is a cool head that i believe that looks after the younger players we need more figures like this cos i bet rosicky doesnt nor arshavin

Agree0 Disagree0

Eboue has been an embarassment. His play acting was vulgar. glad to see the back of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just for the sake of having a player retiring as an arsenal player we cant keep rubbish players...im sure hes a good guy and all that...but on the pitch hes had 2-3 good offensive touches a game and then gets destroyed or does something silly in defense

Anyone know whats the story with Ryo's work permit? I'd like to see him in the squad next season. Any one agree or disagree?

Rob

Believable31 Unbelievable5

Really hope that he gets one been a star in pre season and with him or gervinho on the left or walcott or gervinho right would be a nice attacking threat for us we also have rosky and the little russia as back up for either side or the middle
With there speed and the service of rambo and wilshire in the middle i think our attack would be deadly

{Ed022's Note - No news as yet on Miyiachi's work permit. I am sure there will be an announcement either way when the decision is made. Enjoy him at the Emirates Cup as I think he will get declined for one more year. (I hope I am wrong mind you!) I reckon Wenger needs to slip someone a brown envelope of cash to "smooth" things over...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Even if it is rejected its no problem, register him in the squad he is under 21 so doesnt take up a place in the 25. send him out on loan with an instant call back option, wenger will use his influence in Japan to get him a few national team games and then work permit will be granted before Jan.

This is plan B as Wenger is "super confident" he will be granted one now as an exceptional talent

{Ed022's Note - The "gifted and talented" route is the one being persued by Arsenal at the moment. We'll have to just wait and see...}

Agree0 Disagree0

I read somewhere that Ryo could not play in the Emirates cup, something to do with his registration

Well ribery is injured in training...so there goes that rumour...

Barca are willing to give up thiago. but thiago is not willing to join arsenal.

Apparently Bojan turned down the chance to join arsenal too.

Believable22 Unbelievable4

Well thiago signed a new contract recently and barca rate him as better than fabregas, so i can't see that happening. Bojan has also recently joined roma, so how about watching the news before you make posts you moron

Cesc fabregas by the end of the week done deal £35m cash no add ons, no player exchanges.
Jags to follow £15m and the usual random donkies that AW like to buy.
Henderson, Frimpong, Afobe, Lansbury and Jenkinson will play first team next year the kids have 2 more games to prove they're place.

ALSO

Dont admire Cesc for his handing of the saga he has caused this saga to drag on from season to season. He is our captain but he wants to move back home he should man up and say I want to leave but only if AW is happy for me to do so. Doing that is what a real man would do, Viera did it and so did Henry. He is gutless and underhand telling his closest one thing and AFC another he is damaging the team and fans trust. We dont hate Henry (went to barca) or Viera (went to Juve) infact they are bigger than Fab ever was or will be, they were true leaders and true hero's.

Believable19 Unbelievable8

Honestly, how can you blame Cesc for wanting to go back to Barca. People are making arguments that they may be the best club squad ever. He's made it clear what he wants without being disrespectful to Arsenal. I don't see how he's been underhanded unless you'd prefer he come out and tell the fans the team is s**t as well as disrespecting Arsene. Look at the quality of player Wenger has surrounded him with for the most part, and it was clear for several seasons he gave his all to win with us. The whole "saga" is certainly a massive distraction, but if he's unhappy here due to the quality of players we keep signing and our failure to mount any real challenge for trophies for so long, what else can be done? I'd be perfectly fine cashing in on him now if Barca are willing to make a reasonable offer (40m+ or 30m+ player) and wish him the best. I also think its pretty clear he should never have been made captain, but the fault there lies completely with Wenger for thinking a squad of youngsters should be captained by a rather quiet player just because he happens to be immensely skilled.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whatever the circumstances if he wishes to leave for Barca then he should just say "i want to go back to barca, i appreciate everything everybody has done for me but it is time to move on" no telling xavi and pique and all the others that he feels trapped or barca shirts or stuff like that he could come out squash them rumours or apologise or just be honest. He aint a man he is letting AW deal with it and Barca are exploiting the fact he wants to leave. Fabs is letting it happen he is not defending his club, of which he is captain, just hiding. He maybe surrounded by below par players but if that is the reason come out and say it adams, viera and keown would've done it what is fabs scared of dont sign a contract unless you wanted to stay.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's just it though, he has certainly told Arsenal he wants to leave as well as telling the media on a few occasions. Cesc's silence on the issue is more respectful to Arsenal and the fans than trying to force a move by whining to the media daily or what would be a meaningless gesture of calling Barcelona disrespectful, as we all know he prefers to move. He has been loyal to the club in my eyes and is the difficult possession of trying to be respectful to two clubs which have little love for each other, one of which is playing fantastic football at the moment, and the other which has giving him the opportunity to break through on the world stage and play a huge part for the past several seasons, although failing to challenge for the most part. As far as Xavi and Pique comments, there's no way those can be attributed to Cesc as they're just trying to destabilize our club and force a sale for cheaper. The responsibility for how long this has gone on lies strictly with Barca for constantly low-balling us and insulting us in the media to try to keep his price as low as possible. If Barcelona were to act respectfully and professionally, this would have been sorted last summer. I hope he finally comes to see these joke transfer sees as an insult to Arsenal and himself and finally tells Barca to h*ck off, but I don't see it happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he wants to leave, fine. But with four years left on his contract he can go to the highest bidder. In all fairness, he is not a position to dictate where he wants to go Personally, I now want him (and Nasri) out asap.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed but it is not disrespectful to go the route that Viera and Henry went they came out and said "I want to move on to a new challange I will hold AFC in my heart always but I feel the time is right. We dont judge foreign players for this as this is what they do it is the culture where if an Englishman did it there is always money or the big teams have come calling. Contrary to popular belief AFC and FCB's relationship is very good the players are another story but the boards are very close. Barca offered £40m+ last season and we said no, AW made a mistake and he is making another 1 with Nasri it is a massive gamble he must go before the end of the window if he doesn't sign his contract, I feel he has conducted himself better he hasn't hid from the fact that he wont sign unless the club makes a statement of intent to make trophy challenges by adding qulaity not quantity to the squad. If we added the right players to the side 5-6 and removed the deadwood 6-8 then gave the kids there chance he would be happy he dont want £30m signings he wants positive action but the action consists of letting Given slip thru to Villa (Mistake 1), not signing Parker on season loan (Mistake 2) Not aquiring 2 CB's by July (Mistake 3) he should've prepared for the close season earlier like SAF and KK did, but he "only focuses on the football" at the final point of the season, we did well on that didn't we, what is an Assistant Manger for, in Pat Rice's case not a lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with all of that. Well put

Agree0 Disagree0

Cesc signed a contract until 2014. Real captain wouldnt leave the ship and won nothing. And we need a captain that have "balls"... When we needed a player to take responsibillity in crucial moments of games, I didnt see no Cesc, no Nasri. The real hero that have balls in this team is Jack.

Anyone else think that Song isn't what we need / good enough. We need a REAL defensive midfielder. He gets forward way to much and gives away so many fouls it's unreal. I know that anyone in a holding midfielder position will give away fouls, but he's about as good a tackler as my Nan. And if he's not playing a 'holding role' then he isn't good enough on the ball and good enough to pick a great pass to be in the midfield.

My replacement would be Daniele De Rossi. 1 year left on his contract, so would be a lot cheaper than normal, and is a very good player in that position.

JH.

Believable15 Unbelievable14

De Rossi ain't gonna happen, only team he'd leave Roma for would be Man City (where they'd pay him over £8 million a year).

{Ed022's Note - Agree that De Rossi won't happen for us. He is a world star in the Sneijder, Benzema mould (by this I mean, massive fee, massive wages) and unfortunately we cannot afford either.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He aint for sale deal with it

Agree0 Disagree0

With the number of quality DMs that have moved in the market this summer I'd have to think Wenger is perfectly happy with our options there. I'd like to hope we at least made bids for a few though...

{Ed022's Note - IF Wenger is happy with the options then he wouldn't be making bids..?}

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't say that we should go out and buy him, i just said that would be my preferred choice. It would obviously be near impossible to pay his sort of wages. But one can always dream.

JH.

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely disagree about Song. We did not concede too many goals from open play last season because he is the first DM since Vieira who can effectively break up play. The defensive problems come from that fact that when opposition players do get past the DMs (which will inevitably happen at some point), our CBs are either completely disorganised in their positioning or dont/cant go in for the challenge. And of course we concede almost freely from set pieces.

Having said that, I wouldnt mind better cover for Song. Diaby doesnt cut it in that position and Frimpong - impressive as he is looking - is inexperienced and prone to injury. I think Banega would be a great signing for this purpose. Dont think Wenger will invest in this area though, particularly if he is keeping Wilsh in the box-to-box role.

Agree0 Disagree0

You re spot on mate song is way overrated anybody thinks he is a top def midfielder dont kno football

Arsenal have agreed a fee with Juan Mata. The players representatives are currently negotiaitng personal terms with Arsenal. Expect the deal to be concluded and announced by Friday. are reporting that Mata will not be sold, but ignore this. This is simply part of the agreement with Arsenal to deter other clubs from attempting to hijack the deal.

Dublin Gooner

Believable29 Unbelievable17

Are you sure ? because i dont know about every other gooner but this would be an amazing signing.
But then again the dublin gooner hasnt benn that accurate has he .

{Ed022's Note - Not especially but then again if you throw enough s**t then some of it will stick...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Source? I'd love to see it happen but any truth in it?

{Ed022's Note - He's gone from Liam Brady to an unknown "source" this time...}

I hope u are right but will it really be done by Friday? how do you get these details?

Llorente is adamant the skilful attacker is not for sale at any price.
"The decision is clear and money will not change our position, " Llorente told Superdeporte.
"Valencia will not sell to any club that wants to buy Mata."
Shock me Mr. Dublin Gooner...

So we believe you like we were waiting for your big story last week when you just didn't post a thing or confirm anthing whatsoever.

you lost all credibility to big claims you made and 2 misses, if you make a mistake or judt make something up then say dont hide

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be an amazing signing, but I've been let down too often by Arsenal being linked quality players in recent years to get my hopes up until its a done deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Too much guiness has influenced this rumour, and a no doubt other imaginary board member or member of arsenal coachin staff this time.
BD

Agree0 Disagree0

Really want to believe you mate...hope you aint messing with us

Agree0 Disagree0

I know Valencia are saying he's not for sale but I swear it was reported a while ago that he had a buy out clause in his contract at about 20+ mil, in fact I remember a few weeks ago Graham hunter (reliable??) on saying so Come to think about it he also said that arsenal and another unamed epl team had met that clause {Ed002's Note - Please forget buy out clauses - they cannot be invoked across international borders and at best give an indication of what a club may accept. The buy out clause is the biggest red herring in football.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Make us a deal then Dublin Gooner, if by Friday Mata has signed we'll give you the credit you deserve, if however he ain't then please stop posting jack-a-norys on ere. Its either A) You're a true fan and in the know. Or B) You're a knob.... no offence intended....yet =)

Arsenal make approach for James McCarthy according to SSN? I hope not. Hes good but not Arsenal quality

Believable7 Unbelievable19

What is being brought into account to make that kind of decision other than "he plays for Wigan"?? He has been absolutely OUTSTANDING for Wigan... He is young, talented and British... I would welcome this signing

Agree0 Disagree0

Will not happen have no fear. Not an Arsene type player. simple as that

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldnt pay much attention to SSN rumours.

Agree0 Disagree0

What's ith this "Arsenal material" nonsense Denilson has been Arsenal material for years. I don't think Arsenal needs to bring players into starting 11 to achive trophies (If Cesc and Nasri stay). The right thing to do would be getting rid of players like Denilson (done) and bringing in players like McCarthy and that would make Arsenal better - BETTER BACK UP PLAYERS; BETTER SQUAD

Agree0 Disagree0

Folks....

Agree0 Disagree0

*sarcastic voice* "he's not good enough for Arsenal" sort it out mate you are so wrong it's laughable. I will tell you why you dont like him, as the above poster wrote
1. British
2. Wigan
3. His not "a marquee signing"
4. His name isn't italian enough
5. He isn't an impossible target

we dont actually need fans like you they are ruining our club, you are only interested in foreign talent, marquee signings, you cant bare life without cesc and forget the last time we won something we had team made up of British players and players who would die for us. Go and glory hunt someone else i'd rathwer get relegated then sit next to people like you at the library (emirates) because you know nothing of our history, dont sing, you whine and you are only interested in "being like barca" reality check m8 we are not even that good we need to earn that right and and since 2005 we have lost that right.

North Bank Elite

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree he is a talented player- prefer him to denilson. I don't care which club he's from, he has talent. OH and he's Irish not British btw. {Ed007's Note - I have watched James McCarthy play since he was 14/15 years old. He is goint to be a fantastic player IMO and anyone who looks on the Man Utd site will know I have been talking about him on there foe months. He was actually born and grew up in Glasgow, but chose to play for Eire as it was his grandfathers wish and Scotland had snubbed him at schoolboy level, under 18s etc. It is just the same scenario as Aiden McGeady.}

Agree0 Disagree0

McCarthy is a player with huge potential....anyone with doubts should get try and have a look at the Wigan Liverpool game at Anfield last season where he was absolutely immense. Watch that game and then decide if he is good enough for Arsenal. McCarthy is with Wigan so no doubt their is a view on here with a few that he is not good enough (how many times have you guys watched himm play a full 90mins?)...the view with Mata is then that he is the answer to all our woes...I wonder how many on here have watched him on a regular basis (if at all)....

Agree0 Disagree0

Always looked a very good player for Wigan, who play nice football as a team. COuld be a good fit for the squad, my only concern being woth Wilshire and Ramsay (then Frimpong) we are pretty well stocked in the upcoming midfielder area.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he would be a good signing. a good squad player with plenty of potential.

@North Bank Elite unfortunately you are wrong about your comment - the last time we won something we a team made up of british players. You couldnt be more wrong, In the 2005 season when we won the FA cup we had two british players who were regular starters. Cashley and Campbell. the starting 11 was
Lehmann
Lauren
Campbell
Tour
Cole
Gilberto
Ljungberg
Vieira
Pires
Bergkamp
Henry

That was also the invincible starting 11 and we were heavily critised for not having enough british players throughout that period (which was a very successful period for arsenal)

anyway all i'm trying to say is dont rule out british players but dont make a point in targeting them and making the squad "British". the british lads seem very over priced now and after Liverpool's King Kenny investing about 100m in their squad and signing many british players they still wont finish ahead of Arsenal.

Rob

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny how ed tells you all how wrong you are and then the praise comes flooding in, either have your own opinion or just dont be so snobbish towards players like mccarthy or gibbs for that point

North Bank Elite

{Ed022's Note - I havent told anyone they're wrong regarding this post? Of course everyone has a right to voice an opinion. They have theres. I have mine. With regards to McCarthey, IMO he is a good player and the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have been monitoring him recently. Cant be that bad can he?}

Agree0 Disagree0

@ Rob

The squad on the whole incorporating the entire dressing room and training ground included
Graham Stack, Justin Hoyte, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell, Martin Keown, Ray Parlour & David Bentley + the kids in the first team squad. Stack was ROI but he was our number 2. so thats 7 home nations players in our immediate first team squad. Last season we had, Gibbs, Walcott and Wiltshere all season not good enough our kids are n ot given the chance, simpson was sold without a fair crack because of bendtner, vela and chamack look at them now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just out of curiosity then what would people prefer...

A young lad like mccarthy who performs well for a relegation fighting side week in week out in the EPL...

or a player who performs in the french league for a mid table side who would probably get relegated in the EPL?

Agree0 Disagree0

HES ACCTUALY CLASSED AS IRISH NOW HE PLAYS FOR THE REPUBLIC, BUT BORN IN GLASGOW.

Agree0 Disagree0

OP here...

okay maybe i didnt mean he isnt good enough. yes hes good however i see little point in buying him. i am a realistic fan an i know we arent gonna spend loads on one players but i think there are players out there better and more needed in our squad than mccarthy would be

Agree0 Disagree0

If a player can shine in a team that dices with relegation then he earns the right to be known as a talented footballers, McCarthy isnt potential he would hit the ground running and improve as the season went on. Other players like this like, Hennessey, Doyle, Dann, Adam, Vaughen, Obdemwingi, Hunt etc. These players over mid table foreigners because the EPL is tougher than France there league is far behind ours in terms of quality, with the exception of the big boys. Consistancy for a team battle relegation and performing week in week out is worth more than being consistant in the French mid table, that level is that of Championship FACT L'Orient are not better than the likes of Wolves, Norwich, Birmingham, Swansea and Forest etc

I think where Arsenal end up in the table depends a little on fortune too.
If key players, Van Persie in particular, can stay fit, we have a good shot. If Cesc and Nasri stay, all the better. I think next season we will have a stronger squad simply because there are better players making up the numbers.
Gervinho to replace Bendtner, or even have a regular place in the starting 11, Ryo pushing up through Arshavin (might help him find some permentant-ish form). Vermaelen fit, plus another defender, if Wenger's noises are to be trusted.
I feel pretty positive.

Believable24 Unbelievable5

We faired pretty well last season, without Van Persie & Vermaelen playing, as well as many other injuries. With the new signings Jenkinson & Gervinho added, as well as the additional central defender we have been promised, plus a replacement or two if Fabreagas &/or Nasri depart, as well as young players such as Wilshere & Ramsey gaining a seasons experience, all doesnt look too bad. I am also hoping for great things from Frimpong, who looks an exceptional prospect.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Cesc and Nasri end up staying it will be a disaster. Wake up and smell the coffee, they do not, repeat, DO NOT wnat to be here

Rumours circulating that we're going to make a cheeky bid for Alex at around 12m. Heard about this a couple months ago, hoping it's true. Far better than Cahill and Jagielka. To be honest I think we need a LB more than we need a CB, but this is not my decision.

Believable11 Unbelievable7

IMO Alex would be a decent signing...Vermaelen is very good CB but would like to see him pushed to LB for a few games pre-season to see how things go..

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we definitely need a left-back, I feel sorry for Gibbs who is a decent left-side midfield player, but not a left-back. Traore is poor cover. We also need a tall commanding centre back, my choice would be Cahill, who fills an English spot, is 6'3" & is 25 years of age. My second choice is Samba. I do not want Jagielka, he is poor, only just 6ft & not particular quick.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need at least 2 quality CB not a squirt like Jagielka, plus a proper Midfield Enforcer.If this does not happen I think Wenger should be sacked. Look at the rubbish that he has brought into the Club in the last few years - Silvestre, Squallci

{Ed022's Note - Wenger knows he will live and die by his signings this summer. He will not want to jepardise the "legacy" he has at Arsenal. Lets not forget what he has done for the club? Yes we haven't won anything for 6yrs but lets be honest. We don't really know how much his hands have been tied financially. Face it, we're not City, United or Chelsea. We can't spend £40m on one player. We would be four players and turn them into £30m players. At the end of the day, Wenger will NEVER be sacked as a mark of respect for what hes acheived with club. If we win nothing this season then he will walk away. The board will not sack him. He is our most successful manager in the clubs history and deserves to walk away.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Think we def need to sign another CB. TV is class, Kosh will get better but Johan is too injury prone. Lets pull out the stops and get Cahill. With these 3 CBs we could go for. Need another LB and Gibbs is too injury prone, so lets go get Enrique at Newcastle. He is young, good defender and has EPL experience

Paul B

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol THANK GOD IT AINT YOUR DECISION Gibbs is fine we need an experienced 30+ player to fill the cover role and CB it dont matter how tall you are you just need to be solid and commanding remember dennis wise (MF) and Paul Davies (MF) or Irwin (DF) height? no. Jags or Dann is the choice we want they are the best defenders on the market and AW knows it.

North Bank Elite

hi ed i would like to know if charles nzogbia is a target for arsenal as he is french and is a left sided winger and as we are after one of them already you think arsne could possibly make a move for him? for 10m, good pace and dribbling, a natural left midfielder with alot a prem experience i think it would be a good buy if we cant come to terms with mata.

Also i heard that eboue is a target for blackburn as a "utility man" maybe a cash and player offer for samba?

Colney bandit

{Ed022's Note - Again, Wenger is a fan (possibly due to N'Zogbia being French!) and to be honest he would probably be about £5-£8m cheaper than Mata which would also appeal to purse strings Wenger. In regards to Samba, tomato sauce has told me that a "deal" has been verbally agreed with Blackburn but it appears to be a "back up" plan which sees Samba signed if Jagielka/Cahill doesn't come off.}

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Signed for villa.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aston Villa have re-opened talks with Wigan regarding Charles N'Zogbia and have agreed a £9.5million fee.

Ed022, is Arsene Wenger known to be an admirer of Benzema do you know? I really think he'd transform our fortunes over night and persuade Nasri that we are an ambitious club. I'd do whatever it takes to get him, and I think ten or twelve years ago Wenger would have done the same with a player he likes. If Real get Neymar is Benzema going to be on the move?

{Ed022's Note - Wenger is a keen admirer of Benzema and has tracked his progress for a long time. When he went from Lyon to Madrid a few years back we couldnt compete with the money being offered. If a deal can be made and wages can be dropped then its possible but as it stands its very unlikely...}
