So the state of play is this. Park and Chamakh are not trusted by Wenger, hence a distinct lack of playing time. Bendtner and Vela have iterated their desire to leave. This means potentially, all of these players will be sold. This leaves RVP and Poldolski as our only striking options. We would need one or maybe even two more attackers.
It's interesting that Clint Dempsey has iterated his desire to play Champion's League football. He would be a very good option. Not too expensive, versatile plus a proven Premier league performer. No bedding in, he can create, score, head, take free kicks. Plus he's a grafter and always gives his all. I'd rather have him over unproven players like Giroud. Is that guy really any better than Chamakh?

Slick Mick

Believable16 Unbelievable7

Giroud does look a top player but yeh ide love to see dempsey sign , he really has got the lot

Agree0 Disagree0

He looks the buisness. maybe with the cash for chamahk deal, securing him, relatively cheap! lose vela, bednter, free'd cash could be used for dempsey aswell, cheapish, could be a go?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dempsey going to Germany probably Dortmund

Agree0 Disagree0

Chamakh never had as good scoring record as giroud had this season

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant see him upping and going to germany if a london club with CL wanted him, he's settled here, family etc, but who know's

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon RVP Podolski Joel Campbell and Dempsey would be great striking options. Plus we would have Theo that could play there. The other good thing about Podolski and Dempsey is that they can play in other positions so they all should get playing time. Does anyone know when Dempseys contract is up?

Agree0 Disagree0

Clint Dempsey's contract expires next year, so we could probably get him on the cheap. He would be a good addition to the squad.

Charlie

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop talking about Theo playing as a striker. It hasn't happened yet and likely will not happen. {Ed030's Note - I think one day it should though}

Agree0 Disagree0

Giroud is much much better than chamakh. But as you said i would prefer dempsey. And m pretty sure he is desperate to sign for arsenal cos thats his only way of ucl football.

Agree0 Disagree0

For people who think Giroud looks the real deal, ask Gignac and those who think he is better than dempsey THEN YOU dont watch ligue 1. However I do admit giroud has age on his side and he may maintain consistency. But what I want to state is peopLE are judging him on just 1 good season. Dont jump on the bandwagon just yet. Anyways here is something I would like to share. I know giroud links are not new but I know this for a fact- Giroud is being seriously looked at but not as a primary replacement for rvp! Rvp may go but Giroud wont be the primary replacement. And if rvp stays, giroud is then being looked as a secondary striker to him.

One more thing who are a little bit late on it- rosicky already signed an extension in january and it was kept in dark for 2 months. You know what i mean but dont get your hopes high.

M'Vila emphasises desire to quit Rennes
(AFP) – 1 hour ago
PARIS — France midfielder Yann M'Vila confirmed on Friday that he intends to leave his current club Rennes this summer, amid speculation of an imminent switch to Arsenal.
"I am still under contract but I think I will leave," M'Vila said when asked at a press conference at France's pre-Euro 2012 training camp at Clairefontaine if he was certain to be moving on.
"Even with the European Championship coming up, I will be leaving. It is the right time to move on."
M'Vila, who could have a key role to play in the centre of France's midfield at the Euros, has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Emirates Stadium but he has yet to give a clear indication of exactly where his future lies after Euro 2012.

M'Vila, 21, was an ever-present in Ligue 1 for Rennes in the season just finished and has won 18 caps for Les Bleus.

So m'vila will leave and i do honestly think he will be an arsenal player because u can see he hasnt stated where he will go to and that is a good thing.
If you look at the players arsenal sign they hardly ever say where they are going as thats what arsenal tell them to do.

Alan

Believable17 Unbelievable3

Is what it is.. dont hold your breathe for a player of m'vila's calibre or price tag, which is relatively cheap at the moment but still.. this is arsenal. buisness first, then the footballing ambition side!

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite a funny comment.

'I am still under contract, but I think I will leave'

Why is this ok for m'villa but not ok for cesc fabregas ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Because Cesc betrayed the people that loved him, he forgot that without us, he wouldn't be where he is now. Don't get me wrong, I'd have him back in a heartbeat but I don't like the way he went about things.

Fab also stated he wanted to leave to win trophies, which he did to be fair, but he showed his distrust in the club by saying that. You don't just quit because things have got hard.

Where as M'Vila has stated for the last year he intends to leave and he's made sure he's left at a good time for the club.

Sorry for the hijack

Ben X.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not being funny, but we dont play for Arsenal, and we know we arent winning trophies anytime soon. For cesc to use it as a reason to leave is more than justifiable. Any player than demands a leave whilst under contract, commits the same sin. The only exception to this last season was tevez, who took it to a whole new level. But thats what happens when players get paid so much that they can play for 1 season and never have to work again.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest mate, the club has never opened its mouth about m'vila like barca did every week with cesc,

our french players arent putting our shirt on him like the barca spanish players were doing with cesc,

you dont have diaby sagna etc mouthing off in the press saying he should some to us like pique and puyol were.

Everyone who believes the journalist saying M'villa will not be joining Arsenal. If you can, go to his Tweets on August 31st 2011. He constantly said all the way up until the deadline that Mikel Arteta will not be an Arsenal player. We all know how that turned out.
Honestly though, I cannot see any transfers happening till a week or two in to June so calm down everyone nothing will happen now only talks.
GoonerForLife3

Believable13 Unbelievable5

And that is relevant because? sorry but i expect that journalist to be right

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree,I think we will see some players leave, before anybody else comes in.
Braintreegooner

And you expect him to be right because he is arsene's or Richard law's friend?
Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not suggesting anything but everyone does not always gets it spot on. LaurensJulien stated that beckham was going to psg.. Did it happened? I am not saying mvila wont come or not but I am just saying dont shoot everyone out there just because that person isnt talking in our interest.

Apparently Arsenal would rather allow RVP's contract to run down, than sell him on the cheap this summer. It is an intersting position as he will be 30 next year and less attractive to the major clubs. It may just be that Arsenal are playing hardball to drive the price up. I cant imagine how he will perform if he is forced to stay & keeping him could cost us a £25m fee. My own feelings are that he will sign for Man City late in the window for approx £25m - 30M, with Giroud replacing him at his buy out fee, of approx £12m.

Believable7 Unbelievable12

We'll sell RvP to a Premier League rival days before the transfer window closes. Then we'll desperately search for cheap replacements so we can turn a profit and we'll end up signing John Carew. Then we'll start loaning money to small businesses, disband the football team by selling everyone and the stadium, and become a bank.

Sincerely,
Cynical Gooner

Giroud is being looked at but not many know, he is not being looked at as a primary replacemnt for rvp!! yes and i mean it.

BBC journo is saying that M'vila not heading to the EPL from a his camp but this is the same journo that said arteta was defiantly not coming.

In the press conference m'vila did not mention anything about his future and was talking about his role in the french squad and there chances. made sure he didnt answer question regarding his future.

Hey everyone

What is the latest on the walcott contract situation?

I for one do not think he should leave - Granted he can do a lot better but I would love to see him down the middle and bring in Hoilett who has bags of potential

Pat-the-hat

Believable10 Unbelievable6

Thing is we're never going to see him down the middle so he may as well leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yea,, would love to see theo down the middle, flank just aint his bag! but yea, never gunna happen, shame because i think hes a fracture on the flank of the player he could be down the centre! dnt want to lose him.. want to get rid of gerviniho tho.. great forehead (should i say 5-head?) but rubbish football

M'Villa's agent admits there is no strong interest or bid from Arsenal or any other PL club.
Only from elsewhere in Europe!
Once again will lose out...

Believable9 Unbelievable16

I really don't know why so many people think we are in negotiations with anyone when we cleary have to sell and get the wages freed up. Arsene has both hands tied until we move the likes of Bendtner ect.

Agree0 Disagree0

Evidence?

Agree0 Disagree0

Err, if we're not showing interest then we're not going to 'lose out'. I'm sick of people implying that Wenger is to blame just because a rumour that someone on Twitter invented doesn't come true.

The only info I've seen about M'Vila has come from Tweeters who are desperate for followers. Those stories were then regurgitated by posters on this site and also by the press which bizarrely results in everyone assuming it's definitely going to happen.

Twitter has virtually zero credibility when it comes to transfer rumours. Don't believe everything you read.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Arsenal have not lost out... because it says that there is no interest from Arsenal... you cannot lose what you are not interested in

Agree0 Disagree0

Why are we reliant on this 1 player arriving. Yes he is a good player but come on he isn't going to be the only option

Paul - Rochester

Agree0 Disagree0

We lost on M'Vila the same way we lost out on Aguero last summer! We havent bid for him. No one knows anything about Arsenals transfers! No one {Ed027's Note - Lost out on Aguero, what are you on about

Believable9 Unbelievable5

Where can i watch or see this press conference
Alan

Agree0 Disagree0

Where did you see that please?

Agree0 Disagree0

M'Vila is conducting a press conference as a FRANCE player to talk mainly about the Euros. It is quite possible that he will say NOTHING about Arsenal. Don't get your hopes up.

Matt Spiro, a journalist who is currently at Clarefontaine with the French team said this yesterday:

"Spoke to Yann M'Vila today. He was surprised to hear he's become a hot topic in England. Will say more about his future tomorrow afternoon. I dont know where M'Vila's going. I dont know if he knows."

We are making a move for Olivier Giroud

TobyTheGooner

Believable19 Unbelievable5

Yeah, and the amount we offered + rubbish player trade wont have a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

This might mean the end of RVP at Arsenal. I hope not.

MiracleGunner

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as I love RVP, he's had one good season in the 8 or so he's been with us now.. yeah, you can argue that Giroud has only had one really good season now too, but he's also a lot younger. We'd have a lot more to work with in Giroud than in Van Persie, he would cost less.. his wages would be less. Add in to this the fact that RVP has one big contract left in him, realistically.. if we keep him, he's going to have no re-sell value at all by the time his new contract is up. Maybe it's time to cut our losses and make what we can out of it. The only problem here is the board not reinvesting the money.. but if we did bring Giroud in, at least it's a step towards that.

-Catscangrowbeardsallover

Agree0 Disagree0

Would like giroud but 6 + shocking chamahk aint gunna cut it.. dont think wengers on this planet sometimes?! can we use our womens team next year if we cut all their hair off and draw beards on them with felt-tip pens? they are an experianced trophy winning team.

READ THIS POST. FROM A MORE REAL LIFE PERSON

Arsenal won't sign any more than 3 big players this year. And personally I doubt even that! And this is including Podolski.

Ins:
Podolski
M'Vila/Capou
Kalou

PLEASE COMMENT AS THIS IS MY FIRST POST

JACOBBEHM

Believable14 Unbelievable18

Is kalou a big player then? thats bleak man

Agree0 Disagree0

That is indeed down to earth.

But Kalou can hardly be considered to be a 'big signing'.

But yes. I also don't expect more 'big signings' than that.
Maybe a few young talents that may suprise us in the upcoming years as Wenger is so good at.

asyd

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant understand the kalou link.. probly is true because wenger loves a cheap deal but, if he's not goot enough for chelski then why would he be good enough for us. i dont personelly rate him that much, would be a dissapointing buy, doubt RVP would be impressed. i would be happy with the edition of giroud and m'vila and a defender. ive always slagged off chelski, and s**ty for buying sucsess but right now i would love a sugar daddy.. reality is, it takes serious money to win things, let alone compete.. just hope usamanov takes over at some point and catapults us back to the top. been a long 7 years. i truly believe stan k is purely in it from a buisness perspective, no real intrest in glory, just profits, which we are very good at! yanks just dont get the passion for 'soccer', look at liverpool.. russians seem to like the glory aspect.. think usamanov was impressed seeing his mate roman's team win CL, hopefully will spur himon and try to take over. im not a pesamistic person by nature but i dont think things are boding well for next season, maybe premature seeing as the transfer window is'nt even open, but with arsenal, the board and im afraid to say wenger, i think its gunna be same old same old... 'we have a good squad' blah blah blah

{Ed030's Note - Wenger apparently said he likes Kalou as a player a few years back and since then we have been linked with him everytime his future at Chelsea has been in doubt}

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop using caps

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal have already expressed intrest in buying another striker by bidding for Giroud, which kind of blows your theory out of the water. Kalou won't be joining us, if it were to be anyone from Chelsea it would be Benayoun.

Ben X.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kalou doesn't make sense;
1. overseas player
2. another possible acn player
3. really awful player
4. would still command a high wage

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not a huge fan of Kalou myself, but just because someone isn't playing their best with one team then it doesn't mean they would so the same with another.. RVP and Henry are both prime examples of players that started to dip in form at their previous clubs before moving onto Arsenal and becoming great players with us. Granted Kalou is older than the latter, but I trust in Wenger to bring out the best in him if we do sign him.

-Catscangrowbeardsallover

Agree0 Disagree0

What's a more real life person? Am I a more real life person? I sure hope so.

I will say this - I'd be worried if we don't bring in someone who can play in the Rosicky role. We can't count on keeping him healthy for a majority of next season, nobody knows what Wilshire can give us, Ramsey doesn't seem ready, and we've all seen how much we need Arteta in the deeper role. Maybe M'Vila or Capoue (sp?) if they come can free up Arteta, but all the same I'd prefer a Kagawa or Dempsey to come to challenge/rotate with Rosicky.

Agree0 Disagree0

How can u say Kalou is a big player

Agree0 Disagree0

Kalou... just the world class player we need to make us the best team in england.. hope rvp dont hear this, if i was him an was asking for a statement of intent from my club and they brought kalou in.. id be off straight away! so disillusioned with afc and the board. highest ticket prices in the land.. to go and watch.. kalou? im being raped without the courtisy of lubrication!

New Gooner

Believable14 Unbelievable19

Do we really want a player where we are his second choice behind Spurs?

Andy H

Agree0 Disagree0

He has also said Spurs are his first choice, if that's his attitude they can have him

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal nor the fans will be happy being plan B, let him go to spuds. The only reason we are his second choice is that he knows he won't get regular starts at Arsenal, barring injuries to Kos & Verm. We already have Merts as 3rd choice CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's just playing mind games with Spurs. He says Spurs are his first choice. Fine. He's giving up Champion's League football because he doesn't want to compete with our defenders. Shows a lack of faith in his own ability. Don't need him.

Slick Mick

Agree0 Disagree0

My reply hasn't been posted?

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a good player and would very much like to have got him but.. i dont think he understands the rivalry between us and.. them.. im not sured id like him to come to us purely for the reason they didnt want to pay the money.. we are no plan b, especially when it comes to spurs!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont think 3 is enough, ESPECIALLY if kalou is 1 of the 3

Agree0 Disagree0

You're all being ridiculous. If AW could get him from under Spurs' noses, that'd be fantastic.
Ypsigooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Ypsigooner to be honest. None of you had any complaints when we signed Sol Campbell actually from Spurs, so why would a player that hasn't even played for them yet bother you all so much? It'd be a great coup if we signed him from under them. Not to mention if Spurs do sign him then they will be even stronger next season.. do you really want that?

The whispers this morning are that we are finalising M'vila.

4 year deal at EUR 20mln.

If we make these 2 signings, I hope fans are appeased and will give wenger some time to:
1. Have a well-derseved holiday after the toughest season of his life
2. Scout at the Euros/Olymics
3. Manage internal issues (squad management / which youth players to promote / wage management)

All I read on this site is fantasy. Wenger is a has been, and the In Arsene we trust brigade need to wake up. No silverware for how long? How much more time and money do we the fans give this trio of idiots? The biggest transfer we need to.be calling for is a new owner, a new manager and a new board

Mathias Suarez to join bayern, who have dropped their interest in giroud and which means the chamakh and cash deal could be true.

Believable19 Unbelievable5

I would love to think it is. I recall seeing Giroud before all the hype about him started and impressed. Ideally front line options of RVP, Giroud, Podolski & Campbell (work permit permitting) would provide great options. My own opinion is that RVP is going to depart, which will mean that Giroud & Podolski would provide a replacement and back up.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really like giroud, good player, him podol and rvp would be good, each has different atributes. hope the cash plus chamahk deal comes off, would genuinely be happy if we got him. strongly believe 'giroud,m'vila'podol (in the bag already) and a defender, mbwia(spelling) verthonge. or van der wiel would put us in good stead for next season and would impress RVP.. which as we all know is not looking for money but, trophys, or atleast for arsenal to show serious intent..

Agree0 Disagree0

Shame, hes a good player.. i would be equally happy with giroud though.. hope thats not just paper talk and there is some truth in it.. cash plus chamahk.. great deal! hope it can be done before euro's tho... he will be showcased and that just inflates price and gets other more willing to pay teams intrested! i seriously think that when it comes to these links' 'm'vila, giroud etc' we need to take care of buissness early because of the euro's, and to show rvp we are serious. im not holding my breathe tho!
