Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

27 Apr 2012 21:49:50
Our chief scout Giles Grimandi was at the Toulouse v Montpellier game today, in which MP won thanks to a belhanda goal, a Liverpool scout was also there, but rumoured to be looking at Toulouse midfielder moussa sissoko.
However Bayerns General manager Christian Nerlinger was also there, apparently scouting the same man as Grimandi in Oliver Giroud.
I imagine we had a cheeky look at belhanda and M'biwa whilst there, but not certain.
Obviously the Giroud rumour has been going on for some time now, I must admit I can't see it though if RVP stays and poldi joins , we'd have three strikers in their prime, vying for national team caps and ones going to be benched at least.
Great choices for us to have, but can't see poldi or Giroud happy to be on our bench

D

Believable10 Unbelievable5

Erm but isnt podolski going to be our goal scoring LW? meaning 2 ST fighting for one place, or v.persie could play CAM/CF.
Waq

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently Wenger asked Grimandi for a full report in Giroud and he's been watched for some time apparently. Well, some weeks.

I think 2 top strikers is what we need desperately if we are to challenge for more than the league, or even just the league. I hope Wenger sees this and wants Podolski and Giroud/another even if RVP stays. Podolski's transfer fee, again apparently, will be based partly on appearances as well as a lump sum. We need a good striker on the bench so it may be that we're thinking of buying Podolski and another and rotating. We've needed fire power for a while so I hope this happens but I doubt the likelihood.

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree Pod plays on the left wing.

arsenal to cough up 500k to sign wigans hendry thomas

Believable4 Unbelievable29

Nah, that sounds like more like a spud buy

Agree0 Disagree0

That sounds very believable indeed. Wengernomics: Why spend 30m on Gotze when you can have Hendry Thomas for 500k?

Agree0 Disagree0

Wengernomics! hah!

Craig Gordon to arsenal as back up for shezza

Believable8 Unbelievable21

Good call, on a free and bob wilson rated very highly before sunderland amazingly spent 9m on him 3 years ago

Agree0 Disagree0

When he is fully fit probable the best British goalie. Just bad injury problems.

Would give shez a run for the no1 jersey other could stay fit.

Scottish gooner {Ed003's Note - I agree(one of) about Gordon SG }

Eds, is there any reliable information on the Song situation? Inter's interest seemed just to be a rumour at first, but several sources are picking up the story. Do you know if there is any truth in Inter's interest?

Oleg Maputo {Ed002's Note - I don't think there is anything to it.}

Believable5 Unbelievable11

It is because his agent is non other than the devil himself..darren dein. he links stories to the media about his clients and encourages them to leave to earn them and himself a massive sum of money.

all his clients have left arsenal, henry, clichy, nasri, fabregas etc..now rvp and song.

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^^^^^^^^
Nasri, Clichy and Van Persie all have different agents genius..

Agree0 Disagree0

^^ "genius", you're a mug. you do realise that many players have more than one person representing them..right? do your research before you talk and rubbish what I say. they are all represented by darren dein, this is a fact.

Agree0 Disagree0

I also think it is his agent talking ...i seriously hope us bringing a DMF does not effect him..

''I would have loved him (Guardiola), even going through a disappointing year, to stay and come back and insist with his philosophy. That would be interesting."

I think this shows the real brilliance of Wenger. He has so much belief in our club and philosophy that he will never give up. We win or die in the Arsenal way. Guardiola has basically jilted Barca at the first sign of trouble. I know the trophy drought has been frustrating, and I am certainly not saying that Wenger hasn't made huge mistakes. But he clearly believes that we deserve victory by playing football of the highest order, and he will not give up on guiding us to do that.

Oleg Maputo

Believable25 Unbelievable3

People can say what they want about him, but the day Wenger leaves will be a sad day for Arsenal FC

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Said

ES

Agree0 Disagree0

The brilliance of Wenger is to make money for the board and to win no trophies.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with op. Think of the players we have been priveleged to watch because Wenger has brought them to AFC. The man has shaped us into a club that excites and plays football like no other in the epl, we are the arsenal and Wenger has

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger was good the first 10 years.. the last 5 have been dross. Trophies make a club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you think that maybe building a brand new stadium whilst at the same time having to compete against two oil rich clubs may be the root of our trophy toubles?

Yes, Wenger makes money, but Arsenal "have" to make money. Unlike Chelsea / Man Citeh.

As to Man. Utd. it has to do with how much commercial monies they are making and their global brand. (despite their terrible leveraging).

Arsenal had to sacrifice the naming rights income because of the long term naming rights deal.

And as much as it pains me to say this the brand was not as strong as Utd's internationally.

The naming rights deal will be renewed soon for the kit (2014?).

And Arsenal's tours to Asia will help us open up some huge new revenue streams. I agree with Wenger that the asian tours / north american tours are disruptive of pre-season preparation but I'm glad that the marketing people have convinced him of their value.

With the stadium debt paid off, good commercial deals, and a stronger brand Arsenal will be successful long term with or without a financial backer.

I applaud Wenger for the short term pain in order to secure our long term gain. Even if it comes at some fans tarnishing his sterling service to the club. (It's not as if we have not had finals / great moments in the 7 years)

CL Final, a couple times just missed out on the title, two carling cup finals....

I guess the real issue is would you rather be Liverpool 1 Champions League title, 1 Carling Cup title, 1 title challenge, one administration scare, languishing in mediocrity. OR Arsenal consistent champions league, consistent later rounds in competitions, paid down debts, but no trophies for 7 years.

BTW see what happens to Spurs / Liverpool, when they build a new stadium.

Few papers this morning are saying that henry will stay in management and his dream would be to manage arsenal one day

Believable21 Unbelievable2

I have a feeling that once Henry's playing days are over, he will assist Wenger, with a view to taking over when Wenger calls it a day.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love for us to re-sign him in a player/coach role this summer. He was fantastic when he came on loan (much more reliable than Chamakh), and would be a good dressing room influence.

Oleg Maputo

Agree0 Disagree0

Henry aint managed nobody yet...when he does go into management lets see if he is good enough to manage Arsenal first.

I fully realise this is a Rumours page but why do people speculate on Van Persie leaving when he has NEVER even intimated he would be gone? Or that he is dissatisfied. In fact, every time he speaks of Arsenal, it is with much respect, love and, dare I say it, loyalty. No, doesn't mean he'll definitel;y stay but this isn't your Fabregas or Nasri type situation.

Hope we sign M/Vila and Vertonghen, they'd make a helluva difference. Podolski, too.

Believable18 Unbelievable2

People speculate on players joining us without them ever personally linking themselves with us - so it works both ways, and van persie is in a very similar situation contract wise, to nasri - and nasri left us to 'win trophies'. Absolutely no reason why van persie cant leave us this summer, Henry did it - and I think Henry is more 'arsenal' than robin is.

Agree0 Disagree0

Henry was almost useless to us when he left. Robin is just hitting his prime..

Agree0 Disagree0

Respectfully, both Henry and Van Persie are Arsenal through & through and yes, Henry did leave. Not in his prime, though! Sorry but I can't put Van Persie (or Henry) in the same situationas Nasri - not that I begrudge him leaving...after all, if someone was "dumb" enough to offer you double your salary to do the same job, your loyalty would be tested.

Agree0 Disagree0

I do believe that there is a very good chance that RVP will stay at the same time it is up to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger to prove to him this is where he should be by signing the quality players we need to get to the next level. If we don't we can't blame him for thinking about leaving.

Nasri and Fabregas are 2 totally different situations for me. Nasri was a good deal for Arsenal yes he had a very good season but we got a very good fee for a player in the last year of his contract. Cesc had given a lot to Arsenal and wanted to go home who can blame him for that and who can blame him for wanting to play for the best team in the world. Yes it was disappointing to see him leave but life goes on and we all knew it was going to happen.

After Wengers press conference today I must say iv feel so sorry for Diaby. Just when he feels fit and ready to play he catches something probably off Rosicky. As for the team tomorrow I can see it being the same team as it was against Chelsea but obviously Walcott out and Benayoun in. Probably Ox on the right and Beny on left. Maybe he will give Gervinho a go. Honestly believe we need just 7 points to guarantee 3rd. Can't see Newcastle winning every game and 7 points will keep us a above Spurs even if they win every game.
On the Pep Guardiola note I think he will take a year and a bit out. Then be Fergies number 2 for 6 months or so and take over at United. When does Fergies contract run out at United? Does anyone know?

Believable10 Unbelievable4

Guys, you don't manage Barca for 4 years or whatever and then go to be someone's sidekick. You just don't. Pep has a green light to any football club in the world, some comments about would he be Wenger's assistant for a bit etc. are just crazy!

Agree0 Disagree0

Why feel sorry for diaby?
just when we need him for this important game this weekend its reported he's ill/injured again.
he's been at the club since jan 2006, thats longer than quite a few supporters i would imagine of late. the guy shows promise but thats it, injury has cost him and more importantly cost us with wasted time and development with wages and a squad place.
its best to just let him go this summer.

pep is suited to a club like ours more than any other club in england, its ideal for him.

if city sign Hazerd then surely Johnson would be available, i would love to sign him.
spanner

Believable17 Unbelievable12

Mate me too. He's only a few months into his contract and unfortunately looks like the type of money grabber who doesn't mind sitting on the bench and picking up his wages.

In ArseneI Trust.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats just making city better and us taking their rejects makes a bigger gap between us and them.

Also, don't like Johnson, think his attitude stinks and he's so arrogant. Not like any of the current arsenal squad.

R.O.B

Agree0 Disagree0

Adam Johnson clearly isn't all that, because you all slate Walcott ,yet he starts ahead of Adam in every England match, so what more will he offer the team?

Agree0 Disagree0

He's so overrated omg, just look on a city forum, hes rubbish. MOTD player

Dzeko-Man City

Bendtner-Borrussia Dortmund
Almunia-Everton
Song- Newcastle
Koscielny-Anzhi
Walcott-Tottenham
Van Persie-Chelsea

Believable2 Unbelievable61

Thats the biggest joke ive heard in my life
song to newcastle?! haha
why the hell would walcott could do the spuds, hes not a complete idiot, he showed he would be too good for them when he put two past them in 5 2.
Van Persie to chelsea is the most laughable however, if he were to leave, he'd go to another country, not stay in england, and especcially not to a team below us in the league.
Why would we get two centre backs either, and dzeko would fit horribly into our play imo

Why do we bother as fans posting stuff that we know is not going to happen...is it to take pleasure in titillating those more inclined to believe such things..?

Why would Chelsea let go of David Luiz
and why would Song go to Newcastle?

What would be peoples thoughts if we sold Van Persie (doent matter for what amount) and bought in:
Podolski
Giroud
M'Vila
Vertongen
Jack Butland (GK)

For me we dont need both M'vila and Vertongen but if we sold RVP and rebuilt the team I'd think I'd be happy as it would give us a bigger dimesion and show that No Player is bigger than the club.

what are others opinions if we sold Van Persie but made big signings to carry team on?
dan

Believable14 Unbelievable16

Thats the kind of thinking that makes players like nasri come to us to move on at the first 'bigger' opportunity.

Your right that no player is bigger than the club but to sell a player just because he is playing well above expectations would make us look like a mid table club, when we should really be top 6 in the WHOLE WORLD

Agree0 Disagree0

No we'd sell a player as he is refusing to sign a new contract
dan

Agree0 Disagree0

We should be getting them and keeping RVP.
With the apparent 60m transfer kitty M.A. said we had plus getting rid of all the deadwood it shouldn't be that farfetched.

R.O.B

Agree0 Disagree0

Why sell RVP, yes no player is bigger than the club, but selling our best player, because he's playng well is crazy. We should be adding more players of his level. And build a topquality-side.

With Pep set to leave are Barca vunerable...

Wenger has always had an eye the barcelona youth:

Isaac Cuenca
Cristian Tello

Afellay on loan for cheap?

ED any thoughts?

Billybob {Ed002's Note - Cuenca is not for sale, Tello will get a new deal and Afellay has been out injured pretty much all of this season.}

Believable5 Unbelievable6

So it's sorted then ....

Agree0 Disagree0

They look like good players though! I personally love Tello (from the few times ive seen him :(
dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed on above, but it would be nice if the summer speculation went in our favour (relative to Barcelona) for once...

Also - for Afellay, I could only see this as a loan assuming that we miss out on other targets, eg: M'Vila, Belhanda, etc.

This to me seems like the cheapest replacement for Yossi.

Billybob {Ed002's Note - I don't see any relationship between M'Vila and Afellay.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey ed I've been meaning to ask for a while regarding Afellay, seeing as a fully fit squad he would be competing with Sanchez/Pedro possibly Messi when Villa is fit and the emergence of Tello in addition to Van Persie having a word with him at the Barca hotel when they were in London is there more than a sniff of likelihood we could get him. Basically - have you heard anything and were we ever really interested before he joined Barca. Thanks

In Arsene I Trust. {Ed002's Note - Afellay has been out injured pretty much all of this season and I think it would be taking a chance before he could really prove his fitness - although he may get two or three games before the end of the season so there will be a chance to take a look. However, I think it likely that he will be available in the summer- and Italy looks like one option if he is.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Cuenca is poor IMO. No better than any of our attacking players. He cant cross he cant shoot he's not particularly quick, i just dont see what he offers?

Agree0 Disagree0

Its the other way round actually, tello looks crap, cuenca looks good. pedro is a world class winger who's simply had injuries, bad form and loss of confidence but class is permanent and afellay is so average.

Agree0 Disagree0
