According to some sources Arda turan has agreed to join arsenal in january.Any truth in this Ed? {Ed002's Note - Arda Turan will most likely move this coming summer subject to a suitable bid being made - something in the order of £18M-£20M. The likely destinations are England and Italy although there remains a chance that previous German interest will still be there and an outside chance of a return to Turkey. Atletico Madrid have already rejected a move from Schalke saying they do not want to sell in January.}

AW wants to buy an exceptional player/s and can spent 25,30,40 million on them if he wanted to but the difference between them coming to us and going to MC MU and Chelsea is that will give them 200,250,300 thousand pounds a week but AW wants no silly wages so they will get 80-100 thousand pounds a week. Very weird situation for us and who ever we get will be exeptional but will get poor wage compared to if he was at MC
Can only think who this/these player/s will be

Nice rumour

Agree0 Disagree0

AW statement "I will only buy exceptional players" is Wenger speak for "we ain't buying anyone

Agree0 Disagree0

WHy is it in football that people talk about 80k per week (4millionpa!) as a poor wage or an insult...... whereas a banker earning 1.5 million pa is a fat cat b******d!

What do you guys think of Pierre Emerick aubemyang. He is only 23 plays in the French league and is a fast tricky striker very similar to el Sharaawy, but stronger. for me he would be a typical wenger signing who wouldn't be too expensive.

PS Please could we start thinking out the box with transfer targets everyone is just repeating the same fabrication about players like Villa which isn't going to happen.

kb {Ed002's Note - After a year at St Etienne Aubameyang has attracted the attention of Fiorentina, Manchester City, Manchester United, Zenit St Pete, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Spurs and PSG, probably amongst others. He has said in the past the one day his dream would be to return to play with a great Milan side. I didn't see him leaving the Geoffroy-Guichard in January but I understand that if a significant bid is made that St Et will give it due consideration. Such a bid is being pondered by Fiorentina.}

Ed is there any player that you believe we are close to signing. Or wouldn't be suprised to see in an arsenal shirt come the first few days of January.

It would be nice if Wenger signed Benat- He is a better version of Michu and has played for the Spanish National team {Ed002's Note - If, as is likely, Benat moves Atletico Madrid is an option. Arsenal and Wolfsburg have shown some interest in him. Txiki Begiristain has, as reported, an interest in taking him to Manchester City.}

Don't see AW buying a striker - last 3 efforts were; Giroud, Park and Chamakh. Add in Bendtner and another 'good value' failure would be difficult to explain away. More likely to give Theo a run out.

Believable27 Unbelievable18

I think Giroud has been good especially considering how hard we all know it can be to adapt to the toughest league in the world (BPL) so i wouldnt cast him off into the category with those others. I agree with you though, a striker with enough quality to really outshine what we already have may be too expensive in this mid season transfer window. Perhaps it would be better to do our business in the summer when more options will be available and hopefully at a more reasonable price.

Bear gunner.

Maybe a bit harsh on Giroud - but he doesn't look that quick.

Henry, Wiltord, Adebayor, Suker, Anelka & RVP to name a few. Chamakh was free park was Nader 2m and Chrlsea once offered 10m for bendtner. You talking like Wenger has never bought a decent striker.

27 Dec 2012 20:42:06
You missed the point - recent evidence is not good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Giroud would work so much better as pairing with walcott knocking headers down and we know he has a few flicks to put walcott through in behind we may just have the perfect pair in front of our faces!

Baz136.

Agree0 Disagree0

Problem is we play with wide men and giroud needs a player beside him like ba and cisse

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe you havent noticed podolski

Agree0 Disagree0

Giroud, i believe netted a hat full in the french league last season.

Chamakh, great looking player in his time with bordeaux.

just because a player scores in one team doesnt mean he will do it for us. we could spend 50m on a player who doesnt score, torres

Agree0 Disagree0

Recent evidence, so youve not taken into account the influx of cash since wengers class signings, we havent had the cash to compete recently pal

Long time reader first time post here.

Arsenal are very close to having an excellent squad. I think, like many do that a clear out and some wise additions our squad will be good enough to challenge for silver wear this year.

We all know who should leave, however Wenger will stubbornly stand by some such as Gervinho.

The realistic in's that have been mentioned in the press that I would love to see happen are:

Honda - CSKA / Holtby - Schalke
Mbiwa - Montpellier
Zaha - Crystal Palace
Adrian Lopez - Atletico
Monreal - Malaga
Diop - Levante / Capoue - St Etienne

I think Arsenal need a genuine world beater up front, such as Falcao, Cavani, Benzema but it's just not going to happen anytime soon. Also any news on a Goalkeeper coming in Ed?

Believable28 Unbelievable15

Tom ince is better than zaha

Hi EDs... Have been reports in the Turkish press about Arda Turan (LW, A.Madrid) interesting Arsenal. Know that there was interest about 1 year ago from Liverpool and he is a damn good player. My understanding is he would be circa £15m but not sure about his availability or if our interest is real. Seems like a Wenger style buy.

Do we have an interest in him (already used the search function ;) ).

Thanks in advanced.

The likely destinations are England and Italy although there remains a chance that previous German interest will still be there and an outside chance of a return to Turkey. Atletico Madrid have already rejected a move from Schalke saying they do not want to sell in January. It would be very speculative in the case of Arda to try and indicate which clubs will be interested at this time. And thanks for taking the time to use the search function, it is a full place to visit.}

Arsenal's Andrei Arshavin is not likely Reading as Reading boss says the deal is 'Unlikely' though Reading chairman has expressed interest. Zenit are also in the race to sign him for a fee of around the 5 million range 3-5 million is about what the gunners are going to sell him.
In
Zaha 15 million
Lopez 15-20 million
Ba 4-8 million
Out
Squillaci 3-6 million
and a few others rumored- not confirmed
what do you think ed?

Believable9 Unbelievable25

If you can get anywhere near 3-6 mil for squillaci then you should consider a future being an agent!!

Lewis Holtby came out and has said he will not renew his contract at Schalke making him a free player this summer....anyone think he would be worth a punt? The german football rags said he has asked for 6.1M euros per year but his own agent has said this was a figure was plucked out of thin air so I reckon he could be on his way to england somewhere.seems like a jack of all trades, master of none in midfield.????anyone? {Ed002's Note - Schalke have confirmed that they are to offer Lewis Holtby a new contract but are aware that there will be interest from clubs wishing to speak to the player in January and getting him to agree a deal might be difficult. Aston Villa has added to the previously known interest from Valencia, Everton and Arsenal and unconfirmed rumours suggest that both Manchester United and Liverpool may also look to Holtby. Perhaps the most interesting option that he may have is Inter Milan who most definately has an interest after stepping back from any deal for Paulinho. However, Inter are being advised by Di Frisco that Holtby is perhaps two years from being ready for such a move but in my view it remains a possible destination - although they are looking at Belhanda as well.}

Believable3 Unbelievable11

If he isnt ready for a move to inter (which is a rediculous statement, as all their best players are past it, or leaving) then he isnt ready for a move at all!

Another season at schalke If I were him...or a move to the Arsenal would be fine too.A Ramsey upgrade!

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers ed....good to see you back.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need no midfielder we got arteta, cazorla, wilsere, ramsey, rosicky and now diaby if coming back from injury we need a winger or a striker if walcott dont sign a new contract ...

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Dec 2012 20:36:26
No need to sign a new central striker depending Walcott signs a new contract he is like a new signing in that role, fast agile makes runs, exactly what we have needed.
I believe that we could sign a new winger or central midfielder.
for wingers i believe it would be someone like Nani who can play either side and is able to beat a man well.
If a winger is not signed then a central midfield player would be worth the investment I player like Wanyama who reads the game well and sits in that pocket on front of the defence to break up play and to read the game, Wanyama and M'Villa are my favourites.
Ed, any chance of seeing these at the emirates this January or Summer?
Cheers, (What the ED's do is great and people should appreciate it a lot more)
Wilmslow Gooner {Ed002's Note - Regardless of what happens with Walcott, Arsenal are looking for a striker. Wanayama may well be beyond ARsenal now. I would have expected that Wanyama would sign a new deal at Celtic after the summer move to Arsenal failed to materialise rather than move elsewhere to sit on the bench. QPR also had interest and had an offer rejected in the summer. Whilst I suspect that Manchester United and Arsenal both remain interested but reluctant to pay the sort of figure Celtic will be looking for in January, given that Begiristain has hinted that Manchester City are considering making a bid for the player as well, one or both might look to try and tempt Celtic to sell and the player to drop his Champions League ambitions for the rest of the season. Spurs, Inter Milan, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Zenit, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all shown a determined interest in M'Vila over the past year and perhaps PSG and Barcelona will become interested as well. However, he was there for the taking of Arsenal should they make an offer that is acceptable to Rennes but his recent issues with his National coach has made Arsenal think again. Spurs put an offer on the table - a 15M euro bid which was rejected. Zenit is another club who remain interested and QPR would look to attract him to London. If he were to be available to move this winter, there is going to be no shortage of interest.}

Believable7 Unbelievable18

As you said, if Theo stays, means he will play as a striker, which I prefer and like, with Olivier as his backup/rotation/super sub.
Even Podolski and Gervinho can play up front when needed. Means we are packed up front if Theo is to stay.

But then I would like a new winger, skillful one who can beat man. Ox is only one close to that, and will play there, but we'll need one more body. Nani is unrealistic but great option, Zaha is more realistic, and although still young, is what we miss. I wont come out with names, but a skillful winger is something we need in this league, this formation, IF we are to move Theo up front.

Midfielder like Celtic ace, is another style of player we miss. English champions without a proper ball winning midfielder, an engine, is something I dont remember ever happened. Arsene has faith in Coq, and I rate him high, but its still early to rely on him that much, cause of our young squad and importancy of having ready player for such a big defensive midfielder role

Agree0 Disagree0

Last window a lot of gunners wanted Robert Lewandowski in the Arsenal, but I am very curious what would you guys say to another Polish superstar from Dortmund - KUBA BLASZCZYKOWSKI as a right-winger option for us? He is quick, explosive, good cross - typical winger. Mario Goetze he is NOT but would be maybe two, three times cheaper than the german. Just an idea - thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree0

Demba Ba is a top man for Arsenal as ther looking for a Striker playing Podolski on the Centre Foward position and then we have Ba and Giourd in Strike --- 5 MIDFIELDERS AND 3 DEFENDERS

DOes anyone else feel that the recent reports of Wenger blocking a loan move for Henry has anything to do with Henry meeting Usmanov and his closeness to Dein and red and white holdings....?

Believable4 Unbelievable25

This is a very valid point. Never noticed it until now.

Wenger was talking up the possibility of a move for 2 weeks straights then all of a sudden it's a no go.

Honestly think you're on to something here, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit... Wenger is that stubborn. He'd cut off his nose to spite his face.

StEvE

Agree1 Disagree0

Cant really see how this makes sense as Dein and Wenger are very close and have been for 2 decades. If anything I would think that Wenger would prefer R&W involvement if it meant working with his friend again. Wenger even asked Dein if he should resign following Dein's dismissal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Usmanov and DD need to be at the helm of our club ASAP.

We are not going to let Arshavin go for £3m. he's still a quality player.

Agree0 Disagree1

A £15 mil bid has already been rejected from Spurs for M'Villa so what on earth makes you think a £7.5 mil bid will materialise?

Agree0 Disagree0

Mainly like Ba for Arsenal cant see M'Vila joining the Gunners we got many midfielders but i think all the players out are great

Agree0 Disagree1

I doubt the M'vila fee but if we did get these two players and keep hold of Walcott I think we give ourselves a great chance.

In Arsene I Trust.
