Would I be right in thinking that one of the big-wigs at Valencia recently came out and said that nobody has a chance of buying Juan Mata? If so, that surely means he probably wont be moving this Summer...and therefore we'll have no replacement for Cesc.

In my opinion I think the Fabregas move is on an absolute knife edge. Barca don't seem to be upping their game in their pursuit, and even if they do Arsenal are too stubborn to accept any advances, despite saying they'd listen to talks. I think, in all honestly, it's best that Fabregas goes. It's like when a puppy needs a good home, and Barcelona are the loving family to welcome him into his new home.

In my view, the perfect and most realistic transfer window Arsenal could have would be snapping up Mata (if possible) and selling off Cesc for in excess of £30m (or £25m plus Alcantara - he's lovely). I'd also like to see a centre back. Any quality centre back would do. Plus I'd like Leighton Baines - best left back in the Prem, if you ask me.

Believable15 Unbelievable7

Well its all over the papers that mata is coming to arsenal...we can only wait and see...

as far as cesc goes...right now even 30 mill will do...but im guessing wenger accepted their add on crap as they did with alexis...All their players were in the audi cup so i dont think anyone is coming to arsnal.

Apparently Madrid want tevez...so possibly benzema rumours to surface soon...unlikely thou..we cant afford his wages...

ill take mata thou...as walcott looks like a injury waiting to happen this season...

we got the wings covered...maybe benzema would be a good option up front.

and nasri ffs sign the dotted line

Agree0 Disagree0

The reports are arsenal have met his release clause, if that's the case Valencia can do nothing about it
Yorkshiregooner

Agree0 Disagree0

There is NO chance thiago would be part of any cesc deal UNLESS,

1) they have a buy back clause in the contract which would probably be for around 15m - 20m absolute max

2) they are just absolute retards.

The Mirror are the latest to claim that we are 'closing in' on a Mata deal. Dont want to get too optimistic but I'm actually starting to believe this. Would have preferred an out and out goal poacher, but its looking like Gervinho and Walcott will be given very advanced roles this season.

ed who would be your prefered starting 11? {Ed022's Note - I can only say who is here now. Which would be bog standard...

Shez
Sagna
Vermaelen
Kos
Gibbs
Song
Wilshere
Nasri
Fabregas
Gervinho
RVP
Walcott

Subs: Fabianski, Djourou, Jenkinson, Ramsey, Vela, Chamakh, Arshavin.

I'd like to see a CB, LB, ALM and possibly a STR brought in though.}

-----------------------------------

Looks good ed, hopefully the ref will let us play all 12 players as well lol

Ben

Ed022's Note - Haha. Ok I hold my hands up. Thats what happens when you edit hundreds of posts at once. Still, we might win some silverware with 12 on the pitch. Let's see if it takes off...}

Believable5 Unbelievable3

I saw what you did there Ed
£38m on a striker for another club equates to us having the 'twelfth man' on the pitch and not in the stands.
A cunning plan. Now go and get some well earned rest mate. {Ed022's Note - I wasnt going to put Fabregas in which is why I had song nasri and wilshere then I thought id stick in the captain and see if anyone noticed. They did.}

Arsenal going to sign; juan mata within 48hrs, jose enrique to join by next wednesday and a centre back either samba, cahill or jagielka and wenger to bid £25mill for karim benzema as RM need to fund money for carlos tevez.
MK4LIFE GOONER

Believable18 Unbelievable8

Lets hope so... well apart from samba.. i'd rather put a fridge freezer in the penalty area than have him... let him join the spuds... they love collecting centre halves..

The Night Doctor..

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata will be 15m
cb 16m
enrique 8m
benzema 25m
total 64m
our budget was 35m, we spent 11m on gervinho so 24m left, sale of cesc 35m + eboue 4m + JET 1m . Probably still need to get rid of bedntner 10m and can potentially see arshavin going 12-14m

Agree0 Disagree0

This Budget Is A Myth Arsenal Are Caked Man

Agree0 Disagree0

AW will spend £12 mill tops on a CB Mata would be £15 mill in full, Samba? would prob be £5 up front then payments, the same with Enrique Can't see any move for Benz as his wage would be to high (and im not sure we need him, we have RVP, Gervinho, Walcott, Chamakh, Vela & Arshavin to play up top).

expect no further pursuit of fabregas from barcalona
mac

Believable12 Unbelievable15

Fully agree with You After performances of Thiago Alacantra during Audi cup Cesc has no place in Barca. I am also afraid that Fabregas place in Spanish national team will be threatened. Barcelona is short of money+ why would they splash 40mil for back up player for Xavi Hernandez wich they already have. Alacantra will be one of the best midfielders in the world in year or two.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why should we not expect any further pursuit? It's be nice to hear the reason Barca have given up now after almost 3 years of tapping up etc.

StEvE

Agree0 Disagree0

It seems Barca have gone a bit ahead of themselves, .., (quoted) they had checked the suns and daily stars fantasy football fantasy league and Cesc's value was no where near £40 million...
It's a game, what a joke..

Wenger then commented... Fantasy football does not judge a players value.

Arsenal are favourites to sign Juan Mata, Jose Enrique, Gary Cahill and Chris Samba according to Sky Sports

I am afraid Mata transfer is imposible. He plays for Valencia team wich plays CL football. Valencia is in financial problems like before simply I don't see him leaving Valencia soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember us being favourites for Alvarez, Downing and Chamberlain at one point too. Bookmakers use favourites to make money and cut their losses a lot of the time so it's guessing where they're trying to make it or save it... hmm I really don't know. Ed?

I'd love it if we got all of them to be honest whereas I'm ecstatic we didn't get Alvarez and Downing and remain hopeful we don't waste money on Chamberlain.

There are several reports on the net today that Arsenal are monitoring De Rossi of Roma It was mentioned quite a lot at the start of the window but died down I hope it's true, he'd be fantastic for us IMO and shouldn't be out of our price range he only has 1 yr left on his contract Wishful thinking probably but a guy can dream can't he?

Hopeful gooner

Believable7 Unbelievable11

He is not the type of player we need for next season we need a player like Mata, Pastore

Agree0 Disagree0

This is what I'd do if allowed to lol. Sell Fabregas, sign Cahill, de Rossi, Cissokho, Foster (loan) and Benzema. Play Nasri in the middle, de Rossi in Song's place as he moves to CB. If Song is pants at CB play Cahill and let Song fight for a place with de Rossi. SIMPLES ;)

Just watching the Audi Cup and I noticed Thiago wearing the no.4 shirt. The no.4 shirt that im sure was promised to cesc fabregas. The same no.4 shirt that cesc's idol and current Barcelona coach pep guardiola wore. In no way am I suggesting that I know something that you all don't, but Thiago is supposed to be a strong-minded kid, someone I imagine wouldn't give up his newly attained first team number just because a new signing shows up...could this be an indication that either 1) cesc isn't going 2) cesc is going and Thiago is going the other way or 3) cesc is going and will wear a number other than 4...ed?

{Ed022's Note - My heart says 1) my head says 4) Cesc goes and Thiago stays and Thiago gets a new number.}

Believable14 Unbelievable4

Most teams during pre-season just have random numers for players... for example jordan henderson was wearing number 8 in there last pre-season game against hull so I don't think it'll make much of a difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

All their numbers were mixed up because it was ore season other players had different numbers as well

Agree0 Disagree0

The numbers were just temporary, some other kid was wearing number 2, which is dani alves' number, and he isn't leaving

Agree0 Disagree0

Pre season...means nothing...no names on jerseys should be a clue.

Numbers on shirts in pre season dont mean a thing.

Been told Arsenal are planning a £18m double bid for Birmingham's Scott Dann and Cameron Jerome

{Ed022's Note - £18m?? Are you kidding me?! Birmingham are rumoured to be near administration which says to me AW would wait a little longer and if they do go into administration he would be able to pick players up for dirt cheap. Also, Scott Dann is average and Cameron Jerome is nowhere near up to standard!!}

Believable3 Unbelievable18

I think the Podolski story has some legs.....would be an ideal Arsenal signing.....versatile on the left or center, good in the air, young, cheap, and Wenger seriously considered signing him after the 2008 Euro.Wenger loves cheap attacking options Another whisper i am hearing is that Arshavin could be part of a deal for Honda in January.

Believable6 Unbelievable17

The podolski rumour has happend every summer for the last 3 years so its unlikely. but i think he is the perfect back up for rvp. we all know that rvp will get injured at some point in the season

27 Jul 2011 18:50:11
Hi ed022. I know a lot of people want to see Bendtner leave during this summer, yourself included. I like him but, let's face it, he hasn't really produced to goods. I think it's due to the fact he hasn't had a full season playing week in week out. Do you think it's worth loaning him out to a club like Bolton or Everton on a season long loan to see how he does? And if he does well keep him and play him more, and badly, flog him to the highest bidder. It'll be a good opertunity to see how good, or bad he really is, considering both Bolton and Everton are somewhat lacking in the striker department. And you never know, it could sweeten a deal for one of the cb's we're linked with.
Thanks, you're comments are appreciated
Joey

{Ed022's Note - IMO Bendtner would do WELL at another club playing week in week out. He just wont get that playing time at Arsenal. I don't think he ever will. I think it would be best for both parties if he was sold, preferably for a bit of cash that could go towards strengthening the squad. I think clubs who need a striker like Everton or a top 10 team like Villa for example would do well with Bendtner in their team.}

Believable9 Unbelievable1

I too have a sneaking feeling that Bendtner eventually will turn out to be as good as he thinks himself.
Played week in and week out that is.
So a loan move would be a good options to find out.
Peter

{Ed022's Note - A loan move would be good for him. I just have a sneaky feeling Wenger wouldn't give him playing time week in week out even if he did do well. We'l see...}

New Reports coming out that now apparently AC Milan are in for Cesc and are willing to meet our demands could this mean 40 million?

uk.ibtimes.com/articles/187654/20110727/arsenal-football-soccer-transfer-news-rumours-gossip-barcelona-ac-milan-fabregas.htm

{Ed022's Note - Yes but he wont agree terms to Milan because he ONLY wants to go to Barcelona! NON STARTER!!}

Believable8 Unbelievable14

Why can't people get this into their heads? Cesc will not play for any club but Arsenal or Barcelona.

{Ed022's Note - I do try telling people but they don't listen...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, but if this bid is true... accept it. Put it in Cesc's hands to refuse terms (which he would do). At least that way, Barca's (lame) argument that AFC are over-valuing Cesc at 40 million won't hold since Milan were willing to offer that same amount.

{Ed022's Note - I see what your saying but Barca also know that Cesc wont agree with anyone else so wont raise their bid.}

Agree0 Disagree0

People dont seem to understand that cesc isnt for sale.. the ONLY reason arsenal are prepared to sell is because cesc wants to go back to barcelona and BARCELONA ONLY. so there wont be a man city bid, milan bid or any other team for that matter.

Agree0 Disagree0

I 100 per cent believe Wenger is doing some work behind the scenes on bringing in new players.

What I also believe will happen is a new striker arriving (due to Wallcotts Injury and incase he is not fit for our hard start to the season), another midfielder, a Centre Back and possibly a left back.

I also believe Nasri will stay for this season and dependant on how this season goes will decide whether he stays or not. Cesc will leave to Barcelona for roughly 35 million with no players in exchange.

Although I have a strong belief that Wenger is working hard to buy someone I do doubt who he will buy. I believe that the transfer record will be broken but only once. This could be for any position. I think he will do this to please fans before buying cheap make-shift replacements.

Unfortunately I have a sneaky suspicion that Squillaci could be staying with a young defender coming in as well. I also see a young European striker coming in. This could be Benzema or Lavezzi but I doubt Wenger will spend 25 million when he has so much confidence in RVP and will most likely only buy for back up. If there is going to be a big buy I think it will be in the midfield department most likely Mata.

I would personally like to see Benzema, Mata and Cahill to come in with Kyle Bartley, Ignasi Miquel and other youngsters coming up. With Benzema we could have another formidable strike force like we did in the 2003/2004 season: Benzema, RVP, Vela, Chamakh, Campbell, Gervinho. But this would be very unlike Wenger.

I would want Wenger to make us have a large reliable squad rather than a weak but rather large squad especially with numerous players leaving half way through the season for the African Cup of Nations. But unfortunately I think one big name will be arriving with three more players being bought as well. Whether this will be suffice is another question.

Heard Arsenal officials watched Dundee Utd's european match last week and they had their eye on David Goodwillie. I watch SPL football and think he's a cracking player and could crack it in the PL. On the bench behind RVP.

HE'S BETTER THAN BENDTNER

{Ed022's Note - Christopher Wreh coming out of retirement would have more of a fan backing than Bendtner and could probably nick a goal too!}

Believable7 Unbelievable16

I played with Christopher Wreh at Buckingham Town FC in 2004 - he nicked more sandwiches from the after game buffet then goals that season

{Ed022's Note - I will not have a bad word said about Christopher Wreh. A cult hero in my eyes for managing to play for Arsenal with very limited actual ability but someone who nicked some crucial winning goals against Wimbledon and I think Bolton on our way to winning the league in 1998... He also scored the winner in the FA cup semi that year too.}

Agree0 Disagree0

IAM A RANGERS FAN AND WORD UP HERE IS HES HEADING TO RANGERS BUT NOT DONE AND DUSTED YET IF YOU WERE LOOKING AT GOODWILLIE AND YOU WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO NICK HIM FROM UNDER RANGERS NOSES HE WOULD BE A STAR striker FOR YOU AND GET THE GOALS YOU, SE NEED, JELIVIC IS ANOTHER YOU COULD DO WITH HES IN THE CLASS ARSENAL NEED. PS IAM NOT TRYING TO SELL OUR PLAYER BUT THE GUYS TO GOOD FOR SPL.

I don't normally believe any rumours that start like this but it is something I heard in the North Wales area (near to Liverpool) and have my own explanation:
Jags sister got married recently and my mates wife was at the after wedding party. Her son had a Chelsea shirt with Jagielka on the back - so she was convinced that they know something that the rest of us don't - then I explained that my daughter has Williams on the back of her Shirt - so probably the son supports Chelsea and his name is Jagielka - nothing to do with any transfer - but you can see how a rumour might start

{Ed022's Note - This is definitely how rumours start! My nephew has his name on the back of a Arsenal shirt but I won't hold my breath about him turning out for the Gunners...}

{Ed022's Note - Ahhh Marvelous Marvin Martin!! Possibly one of the more interesting names in European Football. He is a good player and both Liverpool and Arsenal were credited with an interest in June but nothing has happened. I haven't heard if anyone will be making a bid...}

Hi Eds,

I am not the only one who has been praying we bring in another striker aside from Gervinho. I am just curious to see if our stance may change now that Walcott is injured? For me this is a sign we need to sign one more striker if it wasn't clear this time last week.

Do you think this will be a warning heeded by AW or do you, like I, think it will go unrecognised because he is stubborn?

Raz

{Ed022's Note - Take yourself back to when Vermaelen and at points Djourou was injured and the news in January was that Wenger would sign a defender due to the injuries...He didn't. I think we need a striker but won't hold my breath...}

Believable7 Unbelievable2

It's like Ed said he is a 'father' to the players instead of their 'boss'. Prime example being Clichy. He's allowed to join who he wants as opposed to who we want him to join. Its ludicrous we should have demanded Given or Richards in a straight swap.. take it or leave it. But if they decided to leave it Roma were ready to pounce. We sell to a non-rival... again that doesn't matter as long as Wenger doesn't upset his 'son' Clichy's feelings.

Alex Ferguson (despite the fact I hate him as a person) wins with his team because he is the boss and all the players either know their role and shut their mouth or he lets them rot on the bench ie. Berbatov.

The team lacks the ruthlessness needed to win in my opinion. I'm starting to come to the realisation that Wenger has gotten soft and may have to pack his bags.

Arsenal have now given Barcelona until Monday to decide if they want to sign Fabregas or not.

Barcelona have sign Sanchez and that was thought to be their top summer target. "Sanchez was always our No.1 target, " said their negotiator, vice-president Josep Bartomeu. "Fabregas was always No. 2."

I wonder how that statement makes Cesc feel, knowing that he was always the second option for Barcelona this summer. Surely he should take a hint and know that he will more than likely sit on the bench if he goes to Barcelona.

With Arsenal's team photo for the coming season being taken tomorrow (Thursday) it is pretty certain that Fabregas is going to be in it and sitting next to Wenger as I can not see a deal being done before then to take Fabregas to Barcelona.
BOSSARSENAL....

Believable11 Unbelievable4

Team Photo is next thursday 4th August

{Ed022's Note - Hence the reason Arsenal want this deal done, or not, by the weekend, Monday at the latest. They WILL NOT have him in the team photo then sell him. The saga should be resolved one way or the other in the next few days...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Its starting sound like this will be sorted soon then. Only a fool would think that he isnt their number one target and just seem to be trying to lower his value.
Arsene will stand firm and get the true worth or nothing at all. Its not like his contract ends next season and the fans will still support him

{Ed022's Note - Agreed. Unless an offer of £35-£40m plus comes in then he will stay and the saga rumbles on...}

I am not pessimistic about all transfers just pessimistic about our manager of 15yrs spending £25m plus on one player when it hasn't even looked close to happening up until now. I always have hope that Wenger will pull off some top signings and have stated it several times.}

On holiday @ the moment in Spain and there are a number of reports linking us with the signing of mata. They are reckoning that the deal will be concluded @ the weekend for around 20 mil. To be honest I think that is a bargin for mata. They are also saying the cesc will sign by Saturday, in the range of 35 mil with no player in exchange just cash. I have also visited the arsenal webpage today and saw the away kit launch was annouced for Thursday. Mata yes, Jagielka no please no...

{Ed022's Note - If not Jagielka then who??}

Agree0 Disagree0

May be another one missed as Redknapp is looking to outbid us as he also wants Mata.

Agree0 Disagree0

No way the club shop will be on standby because of confidential transfer negotiations - get in the real world

Agree0 Disagree0

1) Cahill
2) Samba
3) Anyone but Jagielka, a very overrated barely 6ft, centre back. (except Squilacci)

Agree0 Disagree0

If arsene wenger is forced into a bidding war with redknapp for juan mata he will pull out. I hope im wrong but in 15 years he rarely gets in bidding wars for any player. No matter how good

{Ed022's Note - Personally I would be so annoyed if we lost out to Spurs over Mata. However, I also think Spurs don't have the money as statements came out earlier in June saying they'd need to sell to buy. They've not sold anyone so cant see them spending £15-£20m straight out. Spurs being interested is probably speculation being used to hurry Arsenal into bidding...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets just hope wenger and gazidis can get it done while harry is twiching away

{Ed022's Note - Wenger is not exactly the quickest mover in the transfer market...don't hold your breath!}

Agree0 Disagree0

At the risk of getting my head chooped off..... Javier Pastore??

{Ed022's Note - No chance. We struggle to spend £15 on a player let alone £40m. Not a chance in hell.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Also, did Gervinho not already get 22??

{Ed022's Note - He was wearing Clichy's old number against Cologne. However, I think I am right in saying that they have until around the end of this month before they official "number the players"}

ED, what is happening with cahill? is he still a target for arsenal?

{Ed022's Note - Cautious Wenger has got his fingers in several pies I feel. He has hit list of targets and I feel he is trying to sign ONE defender and is looking for the best deal available between Samba, Cahill and Jags amongst others...}

Believable13 Unbelievable2

Last week arsene wenger was asked by the interviewer on arsenal player which defender he was most keen on and he smiled when jagielka named was mentioned. so i think the everton man is favorite

{Ed022's Note - Jagielka has always been the favourite with Wenger and hes been tracking for some time now. If a sensible deal can be struck then he will sign for us. Cahill is an able 2nd choice and I think AW sees Samba strictly as a back up signing should everything else fail...}

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont know why he wants him that becuse jags is not that good cahill is better, the only everton man we need is baines

I must admit, I do enjoy reading the posts on this site but we all know Arsenal and the first you will hear about any signings or sales will be from Arsenal. Why is this summer any different from previous ones; everyone moaning because Arsene isn't buying, Arsenal written off before the season starts. The difference this summer is that we will a trophy come May 2012. Keep the faith and remember 71 to 89 and 89 to 98.

Believable14 Unbelievable7

Are you for real?? 89-98? we won the league in 89 and 91, fa cup and league cup in 93, cup winners cup in 94, cup winners cup runners up 95, super cup runners up 94.

95-96 was a bleak year at highbury i remember it well, managerial merry go round and crashing out of europe to medicore teams. so basically you are talking about 71-89 which as i remember includes an an fa cup, league cup, two wembley finals for the previous cups and a european final.

GET YUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU START PREACHING THE AFC GOSPAL.

North Bank Elite

Agree0 Disagree0

Dear Arsene,
Your memories of our history are like your sight of incidents.
Between 71-89 we made 3 apps at the fa cup final wining 1; and then in 87 won the league cup, and were runners up the next year.
Between 89-98 we won the league 2x, had a cup double in 93.
In short you're right we've had fallow times but get the dates right.

Agree0 Disagree0

We also won the double in 98....

Agree0 Disagree0

Regardless of what happens this year or any other year, I love Arsenal, and we'll be a big club forever, no matter what silverware is won or not

Agree0 Disagree0

according to all the spansih reports we are close to signig mata for 20 million euros but tottenham and another club have bidded aswell. surely he will come to us as we have champions league football.
great signig if it is true.
in this way cesc can go for 30-35 mill to barca. move nasri in centre and mata on the left.
then all we need is a centre back like samba noly 10-12million.
and maybe the guy from anderlecht to cover for song when he goes to the africa cup.

Believable15 Unbelievable2

No worries, Tottenham will bid for anyone and everyone, I don't see how they could afford Mata unless the sell Modric as they're planning on spending £15 million on Vucinic apparently and no one will buy Crouch for £9 million, plus Tottenham have all that Champions League football to look forward to... oh wait.

At the end of the day Tottenham get the scraps the top four and Liverpool don't want.

Agree0 Disagree0

What you have described is my dream resolution to the summer spending. Please god, let it be us this season

Agree0 Disagree0

Champions league football? Not yet we don't.

{Ed022's Note - Have some faith. We should get through over two legs against most teams in the qualifying draw...}

Ed do you think there was any truth in Arsenal being linked with Lukaku? and do you thing anything will come of it? over on the chelsea page they seem pretty sure theyr going to tie him down along with Pastore and Hulk

Wozza

{Ed022's Note - Lukaku was pretty much sewn up apparently to go to Chelsea however since AVB has come in the link has gone cold. Wenger has always been a massive fan of him and we have close links with Anderlecht so that could help. Only problem is that Anderlecht want to squeeze as much money out of whoever buys him. We cannot compete with Chelsea however we have been linked with a bid plus players on loan move for him. I would love him for us than against us as I have stated he has a touch of Drogba about him. 6ft 3 at 18 is unreal! He is strong, powerful, quick and has a finish.}

Believable12 Unbelievable5

We can only not compete with the chavs as Wenger is not prepared to pay over the odds. I can remember him saying a few years back we moved to emirates for competing with the best. Money is there, fact

Agree0 Disagree0

Yu can get hulk out of ur head his agent is claiming some un named club has bid 80mil and wenger wont pay over 15 for any1

{Ed022's Note - I have spoken to my contacts in the game and other Ed's it seems the unnamed club is FC Anzhi Makhachkala. They are the Russian club who have been aquired by billionaire Suleyman Kerimov. The boost players such as Balázs Dzsudzsák (ex PSV player) and Roberto Carlos.}

Guys, There is nothing official on the Mata story, so i think we should sit tight till we hear something..

Personally i feel we need to smash the Transfer record three times this summer to stand any chance of competing next season..

Cahill or Jags either will probably cost around 15-20m (add ons etc)
Benzema who will probably cost around the 20m (personally i think Wenger will play Walcott through the middle this season, so that will be interesting)
Mata who will cost around 20m
Enrique 8m

I dont fear for us next season, lets remember people didnt even think we would get top 4 last season and with Verminator in the team who knows what could have been? I talk to alot of United fans who agree that if Vermaelen was in our squad last season we probably would have won the title (But thats all ifs and buts)...

If our line up for Newcastle is:

---------------Szczesny-------------
-Enrique---Verm---Cahill/Jags---Sagna-
----------------Song------------------
----Mata--------Wilshere------Gervinho
---------------RVP--------------
--------------Walcott--------------

WELL THAN I WOULD BE PRETTY CONFIDENT and this line up is not impossible at all...

Also Cesc and Nasri will both leave in my opinion.... To that i aint really bothered, Nasri is holding us to Ransom and Cesc, well he is our Captain, so we cant have this happening and allowing it to effect our on the pitch leader, so i think its inevitable at this rate....

Believable13 Unbelievable9

Sorry Guys, this was emant to read "People feel we need to smash the Transfer record three times this summer to stand any chance of competing next season.."

Apologies,

Samba at CB and gibbs at LB

Agree0 Disagree0

What a load of nonsense

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully not, i am a big fan of Gibbs, we can not rely though he is too injury prone, i would love if he wasnt but the fact is, we cannnot take this kind of chance after the past 6 years Wouldn't mind Samba though..

Agree0 Disagree0

"What aload of nonsense"... Obviously left by some t**t

To a sensible realistic post... Some people on this site simply try and instigate arguments... IDIOTS...

Really? Has he put in a transfer request? Do you have a close relationship with AW or Nasri's agent? Or do you just believe everything you read in the tabloids?
What a load of nonsense, obviously written by some illiterate tw*t.

Agree0 Disagree0

Neither cesc or nasri will leave this summer its all been blown out of proportians by other teams wanting them but knowing theyre not gonna get em
Just listen to wenger not Evra and barcelona

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2011 11:36:52
I have been quite careful not to slate Cesc or Nasri in any of my posts as to my knowledge nether have said anything themselves about leaving the club We all know Cesc wants to end up at Barca but he is man enough, and Pep has told him to be professional about it all I feel there is more chance that we will sell Nasri than let Cesc leave My GUESS would be that both will stay, Nasri will be sold for about £15 mill in Jan if he won't sign a new contract This means to me that Wenger could only sign one more, a CB. Who? who knows Prob Samba in my eyes as he will fit the BIG CB mold He would not be my choice but really Wenger is just replacing Squillaci. Samba would give us 4x good CBs. As for Mata, i'm not buying it, Wenger really rates Ryo highly so only if he could not get the work permit would any offer be looked at for Mata, and even then I think Wenger would have his eye on a sub £14 mill (left) winger

My opinion is that the squad will look something like this:

GK Shezzer
GK Flappy
GK Mannone
GK Shea

RB Sagna
RB Jenkinson

CB Tommy V
CB Samba
CB Kos
CB Djourou
CB Bartley
CB Miguel

LB Gibbs
LB Traore

MF Cesc
MF Nasri
MF Song
MF Jack
MF Rambo
MF Frimpong
MF Diaby
MF Ryo
MF Eastmond

ST RVP
ST Walcott
ST Gervinho
ST Arshavin
ST Chamakh
ST Vela

29 players but remember youth does not count in the 25 man squad.

Believable10 Unbelievable12

No way will anyone pay 15 million for nasri in january

Agree0 Disagree0

Think your squad is spot on apart from fabregas who will be replaced by mata

Agree0 Disagree0

James Shea has already signed for Dagenham and Redbridge on loan so he won't be in our squad this season.

And Nasri can sign a pre-contract with anyone in July, so it's sell now or lose on a free. Unless we can tie him down on a new contract

Agree0 Disagree0

If Nasri has as good a start as he did last season £15 mill will be the asking price

Agree0 Disagree0

Hasnt shea gone on loan to dagenham for next season

Agree0 Disagree0

Afobe will be in the first string and so will Lansbury

Agree0 Disagree0

Nasri can sighn a pre contract in jan next year , not in july this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

My bad, did not know Shea had gone on loan I can't see Nasri signing a pre contract, he will want to put in a strong effort to get the best wage (if he goes), he may yet sign a new contract but he will still move on within 2 seasons

the reason arsenal have put a bid in for mata is that the board are growing frustrated at the lack of transfer activity at the emerates & have instructed wenger to buy or be sacked you heard it 1st here....

{Ed022's Note - Which member of the board are you then?}

Believable9 Unbelievable18

What load of crap AW would resign if he was pushed into making bids. I also think no bid has been made as the odds have remained the same for Mata joining Arsenal have been the same all this week.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where has the story that we have bid for Mata come from?

Mong Out

Agree0 Disagree0

If only i could click 'unbelievable' 1000 times....

Agree0 Disagree0

Well i think that wenger will not go into a bidding war with the likes of chelsea or man utd or city or Madrid or barcelona, liverpool...basically teams that have more money.

But if he does manage to bring mata and the fact that he said a defender will arrive and also add to the fact we have gervinho...thats not a bad transfer window..

We have sold or loaned the players who make little to no impact and brought in players who have similar impact with a lot more potential.

We are moving in the right direction...

Agree0 Disagree0

This must be the illustrious Liam Brady that Dublin Gooner talks to.
BD

Agree0 Disagree0

COBBLERS-GOONER... i heard we had triggered the release claus in Mata's contract about 10 days ago (maybe a bit longer), but there is too much NOT going on for any movement to be taking place. If this happens, i feel it will be a quick thing as they say "no news, is good news".....

Agree0 Disagree0

If Wenger doesn't spend in the right places and we start to fall behind the front runners, things will become very uncomfortable for him. The fans are restless and it's not just about winning trophies now

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2011 10:20:54
I have been reading this site quite a lot recently....and thought i would post up my opinions.. (note these are strictly opinions).

I believe that Nasri staying for one more year, or so the rumours say thats the case, IMO it wont be a year He will see how the team is competing in all competitions come January, and then himself and Wenger will decide whether it will be best to cash in on him or to sign a new contract Hopefully we will be top by then and he will sign
With regards to transfers....Cesc is clearly going to go, but with Jack the Lad we have a more than capable replacement with his creativity and precise passing range, we replaced Big Pat with Cesc at the tender age of 16/17 and Wilshere has shown he is more than capable so I dont feel a replacement is neccessary
Think we should go for Cissokho at LB he is big, strong, good on the ball, quick, and would adapt to the premiership instantly..for £10m I think we could prise him away, effectively costing us £3m with the departure of Gael "only play 4 man city 4 money" Clichy.
Out of the CB's we have been linked with, I REALLY want an English player, someone who will have the English steel at the back we have had in both our last 2 title winning seasons in Adams and Campbell. Cahill would be the one for me £15m plus Bartley on loan wage free for a season, and with the added factor of being good friends with Wilshere. Although I really rate Koscielny considering he was chucked in last season without a real leader to guide him in his 1st prem season I thought he done reasonably well.
Last thought is the striking options...Gervinho looks to be another Snip from AW however I will preserve judgement for the big games in the premier league and he will be going to the ACN along with Song, I dont feel we need a striker, but someone who is capable of getting down the wings and delivering the killer ball. Ribery has been mentioned, is he fit enough? Will he get on with Nasri? and Wages would be too demanding...I would prefer Mata but only time will tell, Ed what are your thoughts on us needing another striker or someone who is capable of creating the goals from the wings?
We will have a good season, all the doubters let them doubt aslong as we keep the faith and get behind our team there is no reason this cant be a successful campaign.

Ads

{Ed022's Note - Personally, and I am not Wenger obviously but I would like to see a striker brought in. Someone who can get 20 goals a season and take the heat/pressure off RVP. A target man, an out and out striker. I personally see RVP in the roaming role. Causing trouble, creating things. However, as Gervinho has been brought in and can play anywhere across the front and with Walcott being moved to a more "central" striking role and with Chamakh and Vela available, I cant see Wenger buying someone.}

I guess wenger putting in a 20 million pound bid for mata is his wake up call...or cesc deal is almost done.

We can get mata...alot of people may have not heard of him but ive seen him play against barcelona and hes dynamite...comeon wenger...

Mata over cazorla any day of the year.

{Ed022's Note - Mata is a quality player and really shone recently in the Under 21 world cup. I personally would love to see him in an Arsenal shirt. Lets just wait and see until something concrete comes about...}

Believable15 Unbelievable4

I know its early...and it could only be rumours...but i have a feeling he could be our main man for a very long time.

I'd take mata over Cazorla and Jesus navas..

I do think Nasri will be sold if cesc is sold...unless wenger does want to see 20 mill walk out the door for free...

getting mata is a priority...then the defender..as no one is trying to outbid us for jagielka or cahill or samba...

from what i see this years lineup will be

RVP

Gervinho ---Walcott

Mata
Song-------Wilshere

Enrique-Vermalen-Cahill-Sagna

Scz-er

Arshavin, Ramsey, Diaby, Chamakh, Koser, frimpong, Djourou, Rosicky, Jenkinson, Gibbs, vela, squillachi, fabianski

Clichy (gone for 7 mill)
Cesc ( to be sold...soon)
Bendtner ( someone take this moron)
Almunia ( just release him)
Eboue ( 4 mill)
JET ( 1 mill)
Nasri ( 22 mill)

Just seen this on SKy clockwatch and Eurosport, hopefully this is something to good to wake up to for a change:

Reports in Spain suggest Arsenal have made a bid for Valencia star Juan Mata and could be close to signing the Spain international

Also Denilson has said Cesc will stay, so surely he is staying, surely, right?

{Ed022's Note - Yes absolutely. Before "out of favour" Denilson left the club on loan for a season he was put in charge of player negotiations. This means we can take everything he said as the truth...}

Believable10 Unbelievable13

Thanks for clearing that up for me Ed.... Its made my morning better, Denilsons opinion means alot to me, i think we should replace Gazidas with him..
