Tomorrows paper will say City are in for David Villa.

Surprised it took this long to be honest.

Ah well, it was a nice dream while it lasted.

Paul

Believable45 Unbelievable12

Seriously though..why on earth would City want Villa? for who they can afford, they won't be doing any panic buying nor are they short of any striker-power..they most certainly not in for Villa, it's just more journalistic latitude the, no less, have drummed up to create headlines about our beloved club because of AW's lack of transparency, they can just wave smoke in the air and call it a rainbow. If Mancini did go in to buy Villa, that would definitely be bad business. I ask you, would you leave Barca bench to go to City's?

Agree1 Disagree0

City are now bang on favourites with the bookmakers to sign villa.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well now that Mario is off to Italy, the papers will definitely link City with Villa.
There was an interesting discussion on today. They asked how on earth Wenger could have sold so many stars to Barca and still not have the pulling power to get one of thier player, even an ageing one.

If City get Villa after Wenger has said about this player then he will look a right fool.
The fans will surely call for his head.

correction... tomorrow's mirror will say this, after loads of banter from gooners about the very subject over twitter all day.

the mail and the times however are reporting the complete opposite as well as mancini himself on tv saying he more than likely won't be replacing balotelli right now.

doesn't anyone know the general rule of thumb about lazy journalism nowadays?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll be very surprised if David Villa moves at all, let alone to Man City.

We were definitely in for him but Barcelona simply refused to sell. If they were willing to sell then I'm pretty sure we would've got him. Even though it seems very unlikely, I still wouldn't be surprised if there was a deal to be done come Thursday. If not, maybe we'll go back in for him in the summer?

GoonerCharlie

Agree0 Disagree0

Villa wants to leave, he wants to join us, we want him....

Barca, after all we have done for them, can go **** themselves

Paul

Agree1 Disagree0

Depends how much city pay, if they spend 20-30 mill, then fine because he is not worth that amount.

Agree0 Disagree0

a bid has been made for David Villa, so our transfer window has started, 28 days later.

nobody knows how much it is (and if they claim to their lying) because Barca owe Arsenal money from various deals, Song Fabregas, maybe even Henry and Hleb(whoknows)

but it is a fact that they do. rumoured to be 8million plus Arsenal will wipe Barca's slate clean. so I presume they owe us around 10 million

why can't Wenger get transfers done before Big games so we have a squad available.

2 players were sick vs Chelsea and our bench was destroyed, would that happen to chelsea city or utd even spurs?

Believable29 Unbelievable19

Barcelona have always had problems paying there debt to Arsenal. that's how Arsenal got Fabregas. Arsenal were going to report Barcelona to uefa because they couldn't pay money owed for Overmars and Petit on schedule, so Arsene says give the boy to us. It was something like £2.5million and they were not happy about it.This Real Madrid Barcelona two richest football teams in the world is pure crap.Barcelona were struggling to pay there players not one year ago and the money to buy this current Real Madrid team was loaned from the Spanish government.

Agree2 Disagree2

Wenger said no on sky today, talking crap.

Agree0 Disagree0

And what iv just realised after seeing City were interested is, Ex-Barca officials Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain, now City's chief executive and sporting director respectively will give City a very strong negoatiating power over us.

Hey is it true that we put a bid in for Cavani?
Also Villa was not up for sale in Jan as he wanted to stay in Spain while his wife gave birth.
Have we moved in on any decent players?

Gunner93'

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger said no so that's true haha you make me laugh, last time I checked Santi Cazorla arteta are Arsenal players.

Most big teams in Europe have bid for Cavani so i'd imagine so because we had scouts watching him.

Looking more and more likely we won't be signing anyone, I am personally now leaning towards this being Wengers last season and the money is being kept back by Wengers and the board for the incoming manager.

Holmesy

Believable51 Unbelievable28

I agree holmesy.

there is just something not right at arsenal.

still hoping for some quality being signed but I just can't see it now.

even if we bought just dm I would be happy.this should of been done when we sold alex song.

i think wenger and the board deserve every bit of abuse there about to get if we do not sign any 1.

champagne charlie

Agree3 Disagree1

Who should wenger bring in....you make it sound that its lie buying at the supermarket..a club must be willing to sell and I would rather not have any old player just for people to say we brought someone in...saying that I am disappointed we did not trigger Fellaini or gotze or match villa valuation

Agree3 Disagree0

Like spoilt children

Agree2 Disagree0

To be fair I would have taken sissoko anyday

Agree0 Disagree1

Old boy slippers on laughing at this monopoly money arsenal for life

Agree0 Disagree0

Were will fellani play? put carzola on bench get real.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cazorla can easily play on the wing, which he did so in his time in Spain. But buying Fellaini or other top quality players would give us something we haven't had in years, strength in depth.

Conor

Agree0 Disagree0

No, there will be no signings
No, it isn't Wenger's last season as he is doing exactly as instructed by the board - even if we don't qualify for ECL!
Until there is a mass revolt and no waiting list for season tickets the board will continue to treat the fans with the contempt they barely disguise, looks like we should all go to the theatre (arrogant Alsatian person!)

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it all boils down to the belief that the board have in AW to get 4th spot without paying top dollar. The ticket price freeze is a sweetener to placate us over the non activity in this window. As someone has already said if City with the sale of Balotelli go for Villa and manage to sign him, AW after what he said about Barca not willing to sell, his going to have egg on his face.I will stand by with what I have already said, that we do need more QUALITY in depth, but we should have performed better in the league this season with the squad that we have. The reason for not doing that lays firmly at the door of AW, with his team selection, tactics, not giving certain youngsters their chance and his blind loyalty to some of his bad buys.
The game tonight is a must win, like every game should be, irrespective of what the situation is.
Thanks for the site Ed

There is a report from Holland about Ajax central defender Toby Alderweireld leaving Ajax. He is a belgium international. who knows?

Its reported on a sports radio station....

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jan 2013 22:50:59
Did you know Vermaelen Carzola segna petit Viera ... he replaced tv5 at Ajax...played 20 times for his country and has attracted attention from the small club in north london that won the league in 1961.....I was stating it was reported on a British radio station....unlike most of the lies people post regarding being in the know....km

Agree2 Disagree0

No one is saying that you didn't hear about it. We're just saying we don't know who the **** he is..as for the 'lies' that are posted, most of em come from the very source you got yours from. Go figure eh?

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a solid young centre back and has been a regular at Ajax for a few years now. Would have no problems with him coming in as a replacement for Djourou in the short term (and potentially a first-choice centre back in the long).

Although I'd be surprised if Ajax accepted less than 10mil for him, and 10mil for a 4th choice centre back is hardly good business...

I have good reason to believe Dick Law is in Spain to negotiate for Victor Wanyama!
This is why I believe this.
1 Lots of reports of Dick Law in Spain
2 We know there is interest in Victor
3 The Kenyan FA president Sam Nyanweya hinted at a move "Wanyama will soon be joining one of the big two clubs in the world. It is an exciting moment for us, which means that Kenya is a powerhouse in football"
4 Wanyama agent is ExtraTime.S.L. who are based in Barcelona - Spain
Will let you know if I manage to find more info!

Believable29 Unbelievable27

I hope we don't get him.he was shown up at the weekend, he plays for a pub team

Lets just hope this is true it's just wot we need

Danny 1985

Agree1 Disagree0

Can't be Arsenal! You said one of the best two teams in the world....

Agree1 Disagree0

U mean in Scotland

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger would rather take his chance on Diame making the step up for £3.5 million rather than paying an over inflated price for Wanyama in January.

Agree0 Disagree0

I love arsenal, but one of the big two clubs in the world?

Agree2 Disagree0

After doing a bit of research into it myself, you may just be on to something!

Would be a brilliant signing & just to sweeten the signing for the fan we would be capturing on of utd's targets

Agree0 Disagree0

Cavani's agents are also in Spain :/ There are looaadddzz of big players who have their agents in Spain and more importantly, some we have been connected with at some point or another. If this does turn out to be true, deadly. But don't bank on it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny. one of utd's targets? I imagine us signing wanyama, and then utd going and buying de rossi. the difference in pulling power between arsenal and man utd is astonishing.

Rossi is rubbish has a couple good games a few goals a season for Roma he's pants more like drossi wouldn't even make it to half time in the EPL.

Agree0 Disagree0

What?! Have you bet seen de Rossi play? He is an absolute beast of a player! His game shouldn't be measured in goals as he's more a defensive midfielder, he bosses games, breaks play up well, reads re game brilliantly, has an incredible range of passing and is rock hard in the tackle. He'd get in ANY team in the PL and would not struggle to play 90 mins. Get back to Fifa.

only realistic business we have a chance of doing is Diame for 3.5 million,

West Ham are trying to scare clubs off by saying that clause in his contract has changed to 10.5 million,

There will be bids made by Arsenal for Villa tomorrow and Thursday, but it's very unlikely that barca will let go of him right now.

The problem Barca have is they want to recoup some of the 30+ million they paid for him and if they don't sell now they would be looking at 10 million tops, when Arsenal are willing to pay 18-20 million for him right now.

Preparing for no signings, and hoping for the best. Praying Spurs don't sign any more. Defoe injured is good for us and lets hope Adebayor and Togo stay in the AFCON long so they have no strikers, as I can't see the squad we have now going on a run like we did last year.

Believable11 Unbelievable16

We have pretty much the same squad as last season, remember van persie was actually less good 2nd half of the season

Agree1 Disagree1

They can't just say his clause is 10.5mil if he has a clause of 3.5mil...

Agree1 Disagree0

Arsenal will not pay 18-20 million for a 31 year old.

Agree2 Disagree0

Barca have already recouped it in the money he's made for the club since he signed.

Agree1 Disagree0

Lets not lie about this RVP carried us. we need spurs to be poor and everton to fade away for us to get 4th, be realistic. we have the better team yes, but we had an awful start, dropping points against swansea fulham sunderland all at home when you still have to play the better teams is just not good enough

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jan 2013 20:45:07
Defoe is not injured and will be in the squad for tomorrows game at Norwich.

Barca still owe us about £8 million from the sales of Cesc and Song, so I would expect us to offer them about £13 million maximum.

Kenyon FA President has just said Victor Wanyama is on his way to Arsenal or Man Utd in the next 48 hours, I truly believe he would be an awesome signing, better than M'Villa or Diame. It would be Wenger like to do something like this.

Bangkok Gooner

Believable7 Unbelievable42

I know not reliable, but it would be a great signing as our much needed DM. Although if it is like all the other players we have been linked with he'll be at old Trafford Thursday night.

Agree0 Disagree0

He didn't state arsenal or man united he said he should be joining one of the top 2 teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

Like everybody else, I feel that we are definately in need of 3 players. A decent back up keeper, a strong defensive midfield player and a back up centre half. The problem is with no guarantee of champions league football next season are the club likely to spend big? - no is the answer as we will well short of our normal operating profit next season. Bit of a chicken and egg situation here and I just cannot see the club gambling on qualification. Lets get behind the players and the boss instead of turning on them.

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree he would be a good signing, I know for a fact Wenger is interested but he doesn't like the fact Victor is Cup tied for CL. Sir Alex has travelled to Celtic to watch him against Dundee utd last week, I would think Man utd are ahead of us in the running unfortunately

Agree0 Disagree0

Sam Nyamweya (FA Kenya) did hint at a move away from Celtic.

He said: Wanyama will soon be joining one of the big two clubs in the world. It is an exciting moment for us, which means that Kenya is a powerhouse in football.

He did not mention any clubs names, everyone assumes it is man united or Arsenal as we are believed to be interested in his signature.

Agree0 Disagree0

More likely to be United than Arsenal

Agree2 Disagree0

Victor wanyama will join man utd. Celtic fan here the talk going on up here is that ferguson has offered one of the up and coming youth players to Celtic on loan so that man utd get wanyama

Agree0 Disagree0

If he has said that he will be joining 1 of the 2 top teams in the world then do any of you really think it will be us, we all hate to admit it but we all know its not true that we are 1 of the 2 top teams in the world. so it sounds like it'll be united or barca in that case.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jan 2013 14:21:02
I think we've just had a bid accepted for Diame? Which could simply mean we've offered 3.5m (the clause in his contract, so automatically accepted).
Allardyce previously saying he is staying, now says he "we might lose him".
Odds have gone to evens that he becomes an Arsenal player after West Ham (not specifically this window) and just now odds changed to 1/1000 he's leaving (to go somewhere not specifically Arsenal) West Ham.
Very interesting and above all essential in my opinion.
This is all guess work based on fact!

Hi Ed!

Love the website, keep up the great work!

I seem to remember we were linked at some point in the past to Mauro Zarate. He is freezed out at Lazio at the moment, seems desperate to leave and can play as a 2nd striker or winger. Could add something to the squad and become an decent impact sub / backup. Is/was he considered by Arsenal this window? Is anyone trying to get him at the moment?

Wenger has a habit of saying he isn't in for a player when he clearly is, Arteta, Cazorla and Arshavin are three example of that. Agree1 Disagree0

Who gets to choose his name then? lol - you would of hoped his parents may have already done this...sorry for the cynicism but being 'un-named' does not necessary means 'things are on the up', especially if the player is of the calibre of players such as Santos, Arshavin, Chamakh...do I need to go on?

He's 'un-named' because club officials want everything nailed down and ship shape BEFORE announcing anything.
Transfers can experience difficulties in the 11th hour.
Just being prudent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I have to agree with Adam. An unnamed player doesn't really tell us much does it. The only thing I disagree with is that I wouldn't put Arshavin in with the calibre of the other two, he's much better than them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do we bother, we all know nobody will be signed this window, or he'll do his usual and go for somebody at 11:00pm on the night the window closes, and miss out as usual, and then say we tried...the usual crap, Wenger out, I've had enough, and no replies from sentimental 20 year olds, who've never known any other manager.

hi eds, any developments on the diame situation? he looks our best bet of a signing at this moment in time

preston gooner {Ed001's Note - nothing mate, yet.}

Believable4 Unbelievable11

I don't believe Wenger will go for Diame's type of defensive midfield player. In any event he probably thinks we have sufficient options in Abu Diaby, Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey & Coquelin. I am praying I am wrong & he buys Fellaini.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2013 23:48:35
Arsenal have matched Felliani's buyout valuation - but Chelsea have bid more and wages offered are significanly higher.

Believable25 Unbelievable63

I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal making no significant signing's.They have gone after highly sought after players who can pick which team they want to play for in europes elite and now are going up against other clubs with more transfer funds so late in the day.

Agree1 Disagree0

Why would Chelsea bid more than the clause... That makes no sense

Agree1 Disagree0

Well, it's a simple question to answer for Fellani: He can go to a club that'll pay him better wages, but will flip-flop managers every six months and playing Europa League football.

OR

He goes to a club that won't pay as much, but is stable by all accounts, may or may not get CL football next season but...has a two-legged tie v. Bayern coming up.

Decisions, decisions...

Agree0 Disagree0

I can quite believe this and here is why.....Mata, Hazard to name the latest example were both on Arsene's radar, Mata was actually at the Emirates watching a game while the board finalised his contract and Chelsea swooped on the 11th hour and stole him from under our nose. The Chelsea transfer policy seems to be, wait till Arsenal identify a player and go for him..! It gets right up my goat. Just watch Fellani join the blue bandwagon one unhappy gooner here..! Running out of patients fast..!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Any why exactly would Chelsea offer more than the buyout clause? This is bull although can see him moving to Chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would chelsea bid more than the buyout valuation, doesn't make any sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Chelsea bid more than his buyout clause? Yeh cause they just throw money away that easily?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Chelsea pay more than the buyout clause?!

Aussie Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Where have you heard such nonsence?

Agree0 Disagree0

Those that are questioning why Chelsea would pay more than the amount contained in the clause, the answer is simple. Say the clause amount is £22m & Arsenal offer £22m, then Chelsea could offer £23m to beat Arsenal's offer & entice Everton to take their offer, assuming the player wishes to go there. It would be interesting to see if Chelsea have space in their squad for any more foreign players, as they can only have 17 overage foreign players in the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

"Running out of patients fast..!"

Are you a doctor?

Agree0 Disagree0

It wouldn't matter how much chelski offer over the clause becuase everton have to accept 22m its down to the player after that

Agree1 Disagree0

Lol last poster.

Why would chelsea pay more in fee? If anything they should put it into wages so fellaini choose them.

Buyout is fixed. If you bid more than it, it doesn't make changes, it is still accepted. LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

If the clause is £22m then Everton have to take the offer don't they? So it would be pointless to bid an extra £1m.

Unless of course Everton then started really pushing Fellaini into moving to the highest bidding club.

If both clubs have met the release clause then I wouldn't be surprised if it came down to wages.

Mike

Agree0 Disagree0

To the doctor or dentist or whatever who wrote 4th reply to OP........what is it you are doing to your patients to say you are running out of them? Are they dying off or is your bedside mannner such that they are going elsewhere?

CECEGUaW

Agree0 Disagree0

It doesn't matter if Chelsea bid more than the buyout clause. Of Arsenal, or any other club, bid the correct amount then Everton are obliged to allow the player to talk to that other club. So if CFC bid more, but the player prefers AFC or whichever other club might bid, then he can choose whichever option he wants. CFC can't entice EFC to accept their offer by bidding more - all offers that match the buyout value must be accepted and the player will choose where he goes. Therefore, CFC will definitely not bid more than the clause as it will give them no advantage whatsoever.

Why would chelsea offer more than the buyout clause?

Jeeze thick or what. the minimum amount is the trigger amount of say £22m, but it doesn't stop more than one club getting into a bidding war & pushing the price up.

Assuming the player would go to either club, if Arsenal & Chelsea offer £22m, then its up to the player, but if Chelsea offer £23m & Arsenal only £22m, then Everton would almost certainly sell to Chelsea. In reality, if the clause is £22m, then we don't stand a chance, as long as Wenger is in charge. Shame, as Fellaini would be ideal.

Chelsea coming in at the last hour for mata is rubbish. we messed up negotiations and he decided not to come here. at that time I beleive chelsea were still managerless

it was a few weeks later when he actually signed for chelsea - once AVB was manager.

Whether the OP was winding us up or not I don't know but he could be correct. ..
fellainis buy out clause is for a club currently in the champions league which chelsea are not...so cfc could offer 40m and Everton would have the righy to reject it.
they would be stupid to reject anything abpve the release figure had arsenal already triggered the clause.
not saying its happening or I've heard anything just informing you all.

"Jeeze thick or what"... erm, sorry but you clearly do not get it. If one club offers the value of the buyout clause, and 5 other clubs each offer an extra £50m, Everton CANNOT reject the lower value offer if I matches the value of the release clause. EFC might ask him to go to the highest bidding club, but he could refuse and go to the club offering EFC the smaller amount. Jeeze...

His clause is £27m and he prefers chelsea over arsenal so forget about it.
