Goalkeepers:
It is unlikely that a goalkeeper will be brought in. Wenger has faith in Fabianski and Szczesny who will fight in out for the No.1 spot. Almunia will most likely be sold to a La Liga club for around £2million.
Defenders:
Havard Nordtveit has left for Borussia Monchengladbach so there could be a space to fill at the back. Koscielny has started to fit in a bit better but Squillaci looks out of his depth. With Vermaelen being out for at least another month a CB should certainly be a priority. Jan Vertonghen from a cash-strapped Ajax would seem to be the best option. He would cost around the £10million mark and could also operate as a defensive midfielder if required. A back-up RB is also expected in the shape of Sime Vrsaljko from Dinamo Zagreb. He is a fantastic young prospect from Croatia who would cost approx. £6million.
Midfielders:
I don't expect any change in the midfield. Expect to see Emmanuel-Thomas, Ramsey and Frimpong to get some game time, particularly in the FA Cup, the latter two after their respective recovery from long term injuries.
Strikers:
Carlos Vela looks certain to go out on loan, most likely to a Spanish club. Nicklas Bendtner has stated that he intends to stay to fight for his place, therefore I don't expect any first team forwards to come in. Nick Powell, a young English striker from Crewe Alexandra, looks likely to join the youth set-up.

Someone posted a rumour regarding a possible swap for Clichy to Real Madrid and Benzema coming the other way. Wouldn't rule it out- Wenger has spoke of his admiration of Benzema before.
Arsenal currently have 3 LB - Clichy, Gibbs and Armand Traore (on loan at Juve)
Notice that against Birmingham Wenger played Eboue at LB instead of Clichy which i thot was rather unusual as he rarely rests Clichy, never mind to play Eboue (a RB) in his place. A swap deal would get arsenal benzema on the cheap which is how wenger does business, and he has 2 LB who can take Clichy's place.
Wenger usualy only signs a player if one leaves - the fact he said earlier he may allow Vela to go on loan.
The same goes for Mertesacker - Wenger let Nordveit leave recently so there is a place in the defence. Mertesacker doesn't have long to run on his contract either so he wouldn't cost a fortune

Stop making crap up saying u work at the emirates or you know some1 who does. Arsenal may sign 1 player and that will be a goalkeeper if he wants to but unlikely a defender, we may sign Given as we need a kepper desperatly if we do it might be on loan as he City won't sell him that easy, i think personaly we should sell RVP in the summer as he is injury prone and has lost his scoring and playing style that we all love (do u remember the volley against Charlton) do u expect him do that eva again? we shuld then buy Hazard and play him on the right wing and then Wenger might have some common sense and play Walcott upfront as he is a great goal scorer and is not a winger his idol mite be beckham but he still isn't a winger wot do u fink ed?

I'm a Liverpool fan and am often on the Liverpool rumours section (dreaming probably) but my neighbour just called me into the garden to tell me his mate who works at the Emirates has seen Shay Given there for the last 2 days. Unless his mate is winding him up this sounds plausible

There are many players who have been linked with a move to Arsenal but lets be honest maybe the cheapest option will come. Wenger does not want to spend big and I doubt he will heavily strengthen in the places needed such as Goalkeeper, Centre back and Defensive-Midfield as he will spend £15 million absolute maximum.
Goalkeeper situation - Almunia will be likely to leave in the summer to spain, possibly old club Osuana. I personnaly think he is an average keeper but average is not good enough for us. Fabianski makes some awesome saves but lacks confidence and needs to come and collect crosses and not be afraid of Big Centre Forwards. Szcenscy is very promising but has little experience, people hail him as the next great keeper but he is just yet to make a mistake that will suck the confidence out of him. Their are many options for a new Goalie; Given (£8m) lloris (£15m) Akinfeev (£12m) Adler (£15m) Neuer (£12m) Steklenburg (£12m) Schwarzer (£2m). Theese are all unlikely and the Highly unlikely are Reina (£25m) and Buffon (£20m). Wenger has faith in Fabianski so a new keeper is not goin to happen sadly.
Defense - Vermaelen is a Brilliant player and will not be replaced. Koscielny has heart and pace but is not used to premier league tempo so maybe good enough for back up or Sub Bench. Squillaci is a veteren defender who is losing is pace and was originally cover for Vermaelen. Djourou has a good record but will end up being another Senderous. There are many CB linked with Arsenal; Mertersacker (£10m) Subotic (£8m) Sahko (£8m) Samba (£7m) Vertonghen (£11m) are the likely candidates for Vemaelens partner, I personnaly want Mertersacker. Here are the unlikely; Chiellnei (£15m) Garay (£12m) Cahill (£15m) Jagielka (£12m) Mexes (£9m). One of theese is likely to be brought in Hopefully Subotic, Mertersacker or Vertonghen.
Defensive Midfield - This is not so much a problem like at GK or CB but would strenghten our staring XI. Song is good but bobs forward too much and needs someone alongside him who will sit back. Diaby is also good and also bobs forward but needs to be replaced as he is very injury prone. Denilson is crap, enough said. Posssibly candidates; Innler (£10m) Vertonghen (£11m) Felipe Melo (RVP swap + cash our way). Innler is unlikely, Vertonghen can play DFM and CB so is likely and Melo deal looks 1 in 100.
Other - Clichy could be a straight swap for Benzema allowing RVP swap for Melo as Benzema would cover for RVP but all this is unlikely. Hazard could be brought in for £15m for when Arshavin gets too old but is unlikely as Real Madrid would but in much higher bid of £20m. Lukalu is also a possibillity but again is been chased by bigger clubs who would pay more. Honda is a unlikely transfer as he has a £12m price tag which Wenger would not pay. Van Der Wiel could be brought for £6m from skint Ajax. If Fabregas leaves expect no replacement.

My post already proved that wrong, we're getting Wellington Silva and Ryo Miyaichi in the January transfer window plus Wenger will probably get someone IF he gets a good deal.
So 2 great young players, (Wellington Silva might go straight out on loan i've heard) plus if we get a Center Half.
I don't think that's too bad considering most managers don't like spending in January. But this one does have a lot to live up to since we got Arshavin in the January window.

Mertesacker will join in January. Wenger has stated that the defence lacks a leader. Meanwhile Per has admitted he would love to join Arsenal. He would also be cheap as his contract expires relatively soon, and Werder Bremen would like to cash in on him. Also Wenger stated that somebody would have to leave for someone else to come in and now Nordveit has left there is a defensive whole to fill in the squad. Mertesacker is the obvious option;it will happen. By the end if January Vermaelen and Mertesacker will be giving the strikers of the Premier League nightmares.
