FROM sky sports, on robin van persie;

Wenger said: "We will sit down with him at the end of the season. I believe he is committed to the club.

"Hopefully he will extend contract. Even if he doesn't we want him to stay."

That last sentence is telling, because its an exact copy of what he said about samir last summer. Ofc they want him to stay, but guess what, they will want the money a lot more.

see ya robin.

Believable13 Unbelievable12

It does sound very similar to the Nasri situation.I do hope that Podolski is Bendtner or Arshavins replacement and not RVP's.
Braintreegooner

Agree0 Disagree0

If he doesnt sign the renewal he dont want to stay on.. if that happens i think we should sell him indeed..
I dont want him gone , but no player is bigger then the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he kisses the badge tomorrow we know for sure he's off

Agree0 Disagree0

The last comment is very funny!

If he leaves i will not bear a grudge as if Wenger cant sign some star players then i dont think RVP should stay. He deserves to be in a winning team and get some silverware.

Agree0 Disagree0

RvP is going to finish his playing days at Arsenal... he said he is looking forward to playing alongside Podolski and strangely enough they are from different countries so not much chance of that happening if it isn´t for Arsenal #COYG

Daily Mail is reporting that Real Madrid are planning a double swoop for Song and Vermaelen.......and so it begins.

North Carolina Gooner.

Believable9 Unbelievable16

No chance of verm going, he just extended his contract. Not to concerned about song if we get m'vila.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why on earth would they want song? they have xabi alonso, khedira, lass and sahin. No chance

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd want Song to stay

I am from Bristol and news is going round that arsenal are after Albert adomah from Bristol city, this guy has done wonders in the championship and gets past players with ease, I think a 2mil bid would get him. What do you guys think of this? {Ed025's Note - not good enough..

Believable4 Unbelievable13

I thought this also ed but he wins games on his own for Bristol city so imagine what he can do with the players arsenal have around him.. Future star in my opinion!

Agree0 Disagree0

Great potential worth a punt!

Agree0 Disagree0

Trust this guy it will happen.......on FIFA.

Agree0 Disagree0

This type of transfer would only happen on fifa.

Agree0 Disagree0

If fifa transfers are true then arsenal would have bramble

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do you guys think that this is a load of rubbish? We sign the ox from a league 1 side at the time but you don't see us signing someone from a championship side?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah but the ox was younger than adomah plus he was recognised as one of the top players in league 1. i'm not saying adomah is bad but he isn't recognised as one of the best players in this league alongside lallana, lambert, noble and tomkins

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see us buying from a championship side but only if there 21 or under

Having read Wenger's comments today on the Arsenal site in respect of signings, it appears that he wants to see how the squad shapes up, before making further signings, so the reported imminent signings of the likes of M'Vila & Vertonghen seem wide of the mark. I believe selling or releasing the following will be important:
Almunia, Mannone, Squilacci, Denilson, Lansbury, Benayoun, Park, Arshavin, Vela, Chamakh & Bendtner. These will free up funds, wages & space for new signings. Assuming they all depart that still leaves:
Szczesny Fabianski
Sagna Jenkinson
Gibbs Santos
Vermaelen Koscielny
Mertesacker Djourou
Song Arteta Coquelin Frimpong
Wilshere Ramsey Rosicky Abu Diaby Walcott
RVP Podolski Gervinho Oxlade

That makes 23 players without a 3rd keeper. I know some of the players will qualify as 'under-age' players outside the 25 man squad, but there are additional young players such as Miyaichi, Yannaris, Aneke, Afobe, Bartley & Miquel, etc

My own feelings are we may sign a replacement keeper if Fabianski departs & a replacement if RVP departs & one more top signing, either a defensive midfield player or a creative midfield player.

Believable16 Unbelievable8

Ok just to reply to what your saying i believe that arsenal has circled areas in wear we need to strengthen over the course of this season via press confrences wenger has said were a lil bit short in defence (injury) where relying on rvp to much (attack) and we have been forced and stretched with option in midfield I've got a slight feeling wenger will take this summer to do a massive restructure of his team I'm not saying he going to buy a whole new squad but I'm thinking he knows just 3 signings may not be the answer to get the trophies if you look at man u there reported to have 100 million to spend we all know man u was there for the taking this year players getting old and them being stretched as a team i feel arsenal knows that if we finish 3rd we was lucky as we didn't buy accordingly with poor siginnigs (except arteta) in the previous window he has gambled in january i feel this summer may be a lot of re-structuring

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi,

Yeah agree with you...but i think the main concern of AW , is us getting 3rd...and with that he will have budget to spent...imo we got podolski early because Colonge are very much relegated / very close (still matches to go)..regarding Mvila and Vertonghen..i think we will sign Vertonghen first because they have already won the league and then we will go for Mvila (Rennais are still fighting for Champions League / Europa League) positions...And AW is not one of those managers who would disturb a team in a tricky situation.

P.S. AW most difficult job will be to get the deadwood out..as we all know how tricky the situation is...
Have faith we will get our players..

Go and get Norwic tomo..i say 2-0..win

The first response to this articulate comment makes no sense, as Wenger has already stated that we have a very full squad & he hopes to make signings, but very few & with quality. He has his keeper & back up unless Fabianski forces the issue. He has 4 full backs, 4 CB's plus Miquel & Bartley. He has Wilshere & Abu Diaby to return from injury, as well as many midfield options. He has, at present, RVP & Podolski. I cannot see wholesale changes unless RVP, Fabianski or any other major players depart. The Vertonghen issue is a non-starter as he will be signed as a CB & we arguably have 3 first choice CB's plus Djourou. he will not be signed as a LB, we all saw that Vermaelen a CB, looked less than convincing at LB & he wont be signed as a defensive midfield player. Do you seriously suggest Vertonghen will be happy to be cover for Vermaelen & Koscielny? M'Vila is a possibility to play alongside Song or/& as cover for him. Hazard is a non-starter as other clubs will out bid us.

Agree0 Disagree0

In essence your correct to say that 'he has wilshere and diaby to return from injury' - but we have had diaby returning from injury for a long time now...and we havent won anything when he has been in the team - I can only assume that you think wenger will stick with diaby forever. Unfortunately, wenger doesnt consider a lot of the players in the arsenal squad to be deadwood, as we do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would just like to comment on the Diaby statement above. Diaby is a quality player and for those who feel different take a look at how well he has played when he has had a run in the past. Probably better going forward than Song, knows how to defend, has a good engine. Ok, it is fair that he is always injured by anyone say "Robin van Persie for 7 seasons before this year?".

Of course all Gunners want silverware, our team is one that deserves to win due to our footballing principles and our approach to fairness in how we handle ourselves as a club as well as how we play as a team. But, true Gunners do not just become fickle and slag off players who are Arsenal through and through and for whom money does not speak volumes.

Are we also forgetting about some truly impressive young talent that we have (Benik Afobe, Chucks Aneke, Francis Coquelin, Joel Campbell{my God I hope he gets as work permit}, Ryonaldo (that is what Dutch named him), Frimpong, Miguel (going to be an absolute class act), Toral (have seen this boy in the reserves and he is something special).

It might mean that we have to wait another year, the year after next, but when the new rules come in, who else has a talent list like ours?? Keeping it should be our gravest concern.

I am old enough to remember us hoofing it over the midfield (as we didn't really have one of any real talent in 80s) and hoping to secure a 1-0, where does everyone think the chant came from? It was a mickey take of our team from opposing fans!

Arsene Wenger has been a Godsend to this club, and as long as we keep getting into the CL I for one have faith. When we sold Viera, everyone thought that we had lost our best player. I was at Highbury to see Fabregas take him apart in the CL so badly that Viera was taken off after Pries knicked the ball from between his legs from behind and tore off up the wing. Thought Patrick was going to cry and all press had gone on about the week before was Fabregas filling Viera's shoes on the big stage was asking a boy to do a mans job, well what a boy..

Wenger let him go home, anyone truly believe he won't be back if he wins the CL with Barcelona? Me not so sure.

we need to keep faith, we are doing it the right way, we have principles, we have ethics, we have talent, we have spirit ,we have honour, we have class and we have built this rather than bought it in!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Diaby is better than Song, but that don't mean much ! He is an injury prone player and sentiment cannot have any room in a 25 man squad, nothing will change on the injury side.Sell em both.

Could Wenger ever build another side of the early noughtys in todays market.
1. Wenger had first choice of the French stars that emerged at that time.
2. He would sign players that were not happy
at there current club, played out of position or in his mind they could play better in a different position.
3. Clubs have now caught up with his scouting and diet systems
4. Too many players now are just over inflated prices for there talent deserves
5. Has his method of football been caught up with systems to counter act his style of play. Which was essentially pace, passing and counter attack
6. Top players are now looking at other clubs than us and Man u as there preferred destination.

Believable5 Unbelievable9

I agree, I think Wenger has understood that you need tall powerful agressive athletes as well as smaller technical players. I would love to see us sign Fellaini, Vertonghen & M'Vila. Imagine:
Szczesny
Sagna Koscielny Vermaelen Vertinghen
Fellaini M'Vila
Wikshere Song Podolski
RVP

Agree0 Disagree0

I note your comments, where I think Wenger changed was around the time we left Highbury. His philosphy changed to one that relied on homegrown talent & moved away from his proven fluid 4-4-2 ish system & the use of powerful athletic players. We became a young, smaller, technical side, using various different formations, not his old system. He belived that he we couldnt compete financially with the likes of Chelsea & we had to produce from within. He has realised that the problem now is that the young players dont stay at the club & we have lost the likes of Flaminin, Nasri, Fabregas etc have moved on, before he wanted them to. Now he has signed Arteta, Mertesacker & Podolski, which is a move away from his previous plan. It will be interesting to see how we progress next season. {Ed025's Note - good post that mate..

Agree0 Disagree0

His strategy changed because the stadium move, made a financial restriction on his on-the-pitch philosophy. He was forced to change his system, into a 'young player from the academy' scenario, because he was not allowed to spend money on new players as he would want to.

Eds, what is the situation with Kagawa? Today some sources link him with ManUtd. Some papers even claim that the deal is done. What do you think, is that true ?

BGGOONER {Ed002's Note - No deal has been done but the player said that it would be tough to turn MU away if they came calling.}

Arsenal should take a good long luck at Robben!

Believable5 Unbelievable25

He's just signed an extension at Bayern I believe. {Ed002's Note - Although there is still interest in him from Palermo.}

He signed a new contract!

Yes signed an extension until 2015

Probably swap Hazard with Giroud, Belhanda, Dempsey or Hoilett if it were to be completely realistic. I just believe if we sign Vertonghen and with Gervinho and Vermaelen already here Hazard MIGHT choose us if we offer a decent wage packet.

Can't wait to see what the rest of the summer brings.

StEvE

Believable21 Unbelievable23

I would love this to be true giroud and belhanda are both exciting players i think arsenal need to exploit the attacking force and have 3 world class strikers or there about so rvp, pod, giroud will be crazy with the likes of hazard/belhand and so behind them will be crazy

Agree0 Disagree0

StEvE get a grip mate, I cant believe the amount of people that honestly think AFC will get rid of 10 players or more. There is no chance that 13 players will depart.

Agree0 Disagree0

Last summer the following left, either on loan, released or sold:

Mannone (loan)
Miyaichi (loan)
Denilson (loan)
Eboue
Clichy
Nasri
Fabregas
Jay Emmanuel Thomas
Traore
Vela (loan)
Bendtner (loan)
Lansbury (loan)
Campbell (loan)
Some of the players probably won't leave for the prices mentioned but I'm confident these players are no longer wanted, except maybe Diaby.

StEvE

Agree0 Disagree0

I really really like the first XI

Agree0 Disagree0

What planet are you on, who do you really think will pay £ 8 million for Chamakh, and £7 million for Barry Bender, give me one credible buyer for each and then lets watch in the summer, if i am wrong you can then rip me to pieces - it will not happen, please reply as i really want to know who is gonna buy them, and some of the others you mention !

Arsene Wenger is about to manage his 900th game at Arsenal. Most interesting stat? His overall goal difference for the 899 games so far is +799. *thumbs up*

'Whatever happens with me, I'll always feel like a Gunner'.

'I will always feel like a Gunner. When you ask Robert Pires (now) what he feels like, he says, 'I feel like a Gunner'. '- Robin Van Persie

Sounds a bit.. ominous doesnt it?
