I must admit I'm still not convinced. the French league is not as strong as ours, I hope he won't feel the pressure.
Doesn't anyone feel a bit like second choice either? A bit like if you really like a girl but she likes your best mate. He turns her down so she turns to you like "oh go on then". Atletico had him all lined up, the only reason he didn't sign for them was the transfer ban. Granted the five year deal gives us a bit of security but I just fear if he performs well this year, and Madrid or Barcelona come calling he'll be off!
Having said all that I really hope we don't leave it at that, it's a good start. a fantastic start if he performs but I'm still very cautious about it.

If only KDB was French? 😁.

The last 3 PFA player of the year's came from Ligue 1 (Kante/ Hazard/ Mahrez) also Henry/ Trezeguet/ Drogba/ Benzema/ Anelka/ Aubameyang just to name a few also Ligue 1. Really fed up of this "but it's only ligue 1" rubbish. the guy is French he grew up in France so guess what. yes you got it he will start his career in Ligue 1. The loyalty he has shown to Lyon over the past 2 seasons is a sign of the charachter we are getting on top of the goals, let the man play at least a season or even a game at that matter and judge him by what he does in an Arsenal shirt. I am very confident this is going to be a massive massive signing for us.

Top post mate.

He's 175cm in height. Watch him struggle with defenders stronger and taller by 10cm in the french league. I think he'll need to adapt but the guy has got fight to him. Ozil and him are going to get along very well imo.

Well we'll see, just for the record though I'm not slating him. All I'm saying is the league isn't as strong, and I'm right there. I hope he does well and I'm proved wrong of course. All I'm saying is that we should temper our excitement a little.

07 Jul 2017 06:47:55
It's not often we sign World class players so let's just be excited and look forward to what is going to happen!

Apart from the premier league what other league has strength in depth come on stop talking nonsense, Spanish league is not all that neither is italian or german so i don't get your point mate.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The sad thing is people actually believe that. The German League is far superior in quality and strength in depth than the EPL where the only strength is the money they waste on buying players from other leagues because the homegrown English players are garbage.
Do you really think teams like Brighton, Watford, Huddersfield, Bournemouth or WBA add anything positive to the EPL? Outside the Top 6 the rest of the league varies between mediocre and absolute dross - which is a fair description of the quality of football on show in England too.}

07 Jul 2017 14:02:05
Elhombre, average pl centre half is just 2 cm taller than in ligue 1. Also can't remember Aguero (173cm) , Rooney (176cm) , Sanchez (168cm) etc having trouble scoring.

he will be great guys no doubt he has that self belief and fight I don't see in our other strikers.

Do SC freiburg, Mainz, FC Augsburg, RB leipzig and Frankfurt add anything positive to the German Bundesliga?

Ed007 you have hit the nail on the head mate! We really are diludid when it comes to thinking the EPL is the best and then we compare ourselves to la liga. Both leagues have a lot to be desired and we have talked before about the championship been the most competitive league in this country.

Exciting news, the highly likely signing of Lacazette. Sad news that Santi looks likely to miss next season, as he will be 33 in December I can't envisage seeing him playing for us again. It makes his contract extension all the more baffling, unless the club are covered by an insurance policy.

Interesting news that Ox and Sanchez's agents both say they will run down their contracts. I believe this is a ploy to encourage Arsenal to sell them at lower transfer fees in order to avoid losing them for nothing next year. It seems like Ox will end up at Liverpool and Sanchez at Man City. Despite Ox finishing last season well, he hasn't been a consistent performer at the club and keeps stating that he wants to play more centrally, when the wide role suits him better.

It reminds me of Walcott wanting to play a central role, when he had the opportunity he was useless. In respect of Sanchez it's a risky strategy as he will be 29 in December and if Arsenal were to call his bluff and keep him despite his contract ending next season, he would be approaching 30 when his deal ends and a long term deal at high wages may not be so easy to obtain.

I hope we keep the pair, but Ox is replaceable and if Sanchez departs we must sign a top notch replacement. The other news involves Bellerin, hopefully we can retain him, if not with about 5 years left on his deal, we should demand a huge transfer fee for such a young talent.

Flog them off to someone in China. Or loan the Ox out to Hull or Forrest.

Richard keys is saying alexis will be going city and mahrez will be coming in next to replace him. Maybe he knows something from people in the game but I'm not really a fan of this move. Alexis with his contact will fetch us 50m max I reckon. Mahrez will cost 40m. Unless alexis is being a complete git about leaving is that really worth doing. Personally I'd rather keep him another year then lose him for free then look for someone new. Not like we're short on money surely.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

05 Jul 2017 12:18:58
I don't want to sell him. We really need to keep him!

However, 50 mil for Sanchez and get rid of some of the dross we have in the team, we could make about 70/ 80 mil!

That covers the lacazette transfer. Bring in Mahrez and then add someone say Carvalho in the center?

5 at the back,
ramsey and carvalho (or xhaka and carvalho) in the middle.
Mahrez, Ozil and Lacazette from 3! (iwobi, welbeck, Ox and Walcott if needed)

Agree1 Disagree1

05 Jul 2017 12:51:02
If Sanchez forces a move, then Lacazette and Mahrez wouldn't be too bad in the circumstances.

Agree1 Disagree2

05 Jul 2017 12:54:10
sanchez out for 50 mill would be great he is only starting his holidays then needs a pre season he was also carrying an injury he prob won't be fully fit and effective until end of october if he went to city he would not walk into the team so they prob would not get much out of him until december january anyway, i say say take it, unless he wants an extension of course .

Agree1 Disagree2

05 Jul 2017 13:22:04
I think Mahrez would be a massive waste of money.
Was relatively unknown before he had a great season with Leicester.
Had a massive sulk last year because he didn't get his move and will
be same again this season. Do not want!

Much rather we go for Lemar! Younger and has a lot more to offer!

Agree5 Disagree2

05 Jul 2017 15:09:35
I'm hoping with say the expected 2 signings and mahrez that reports are true and alexis just wants to see ambition. That may convince him to stay. Who knows.

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Jul 2017 15:16:40
Disagree bud. So what if was unheard of 3 years ago?

I seem to remember Hazard having a sulk too the season before last (after also winning player of the year) , everyone forgets that after last season. Mahrez still has the quality I'm sure. Granted could be a gamble, but what transfer isn't (aside players who Arsenal simply can't get) ?

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Jul 2017 15:41:53
Its a fair point but he is nowhere in Hazards league.
Hazard has been doing it consistently since his breakthrough season at Lille and he has had one poor season at Chelsea. Mahrez only had one great season. Can you really see Mahrez replicating his Leicester title winning form for us and even coming close to winning player of the season? I just can't. I'd love to be wrong but I still think this is a silly transfer.

I understand illbill, but at least he HAS done it, and is used to the PL. Who's to say Lemur won't take a season to settle into the lifestyle? Given our realistic options I say it's worth a punt and not a massive waste of money. Coyg.

Agree2 Disagree2

05 Jul 2017 16:45:13
Yeah but so did loads of players. for example Amr Zaki, Roque Santa Cruz and Michu. All had amazing seasons in the premier league and never replicated the form again. So saying he HAS done it hardly has any credibility because of 1 season.

Lemar is the far better option imo, he has pace, can finish, great skills, can pick out a pass and is 5 years younger. Looks to me as he has much more to offer in the long run than Mahrez.
I'm guessing you don't agree but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. All transfers are risky but i'd much rather us sign Lemar if we had a choice out of the 2 players.

Agree4 Disagree1

05 Jul 2017 16:46:27
Spot on for me scar. I think he could be a huge signing. It's no more of a gamble than lacazette is. Maybe less of a gamble as he is proven in the prem. just hope he is a brilliant addition to the team not alexis'a replacement.

Agree3 Disagree3

05 Jul 2017 17:17:57
Mahrez isn't good enough We need someone much better than him.

Agree2 Disagree3

05 Jul 2017 17:44:34
Yeah but how many great seasons has Lemar had? Don't get me wrong I like him but I fail to see that much more logic in signing him over Mahrez aside his age and he might have a nicer personality!

Mahrez's champions league stats weren't too shabby.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jul 2017 18:12:15
Mahrez is top quality, the only question marks are his price and his temperament.

Agree3 Disagree1

05 Jul 2017 20:52:27
Steve you are bang on this time. Mahrez can be a beast for us and it's all about motivation. I hope we have enough leadership to keep him focused.

Agree3 Disagree1

06 Jul 2017 08:55:59
Mahrez isn't good enough for Arsenal despite being premier league player of the year in 2016?
Arsenal are way to good for the likes of Mahrez despite the fact we are asking him to leave a team that has achieved two things in the last 2 seasons we haven't got close to achieving, a premier league title and a champions league QF.
Sorry but some fans need to pop down to spec savers and get some real glasses rather than those special Arsenal ones because they are giving them a very distorted veiw of reality.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2017 11:56:30
Mahrez is a good player. I think he would flourish in a team with more quality around him. his dribbling skills are better that Lemar's. His attitude problems are disappointing though.

Read reports that Arsenal have submitted a bid for cuardardo. something in the range of 25 mill. can any of the eds confirm?

{Ed001's Note - no mate sorry.}
