Arsenal have already secured the deal for Joel Campbell from CD Saprissa and it will be formally announced next week

Believable23 Unbelievable8

When does the U20 world cup actually finish?
BD

Agree0 Disagree0

So what How on earth is that going to 'improve' our current team? We NEED defenders, not more kids who have aboslutely no experience in the EPL.

arsenal top scout watching derby vs Birmingham and if scott dann plays well arsenal will bid 10m monday morning and he will be a gunner by weds

JELFY

{Ed022's Note - The lost. Conceded two goals to Derby. Surely not worth a £10m bid...}

Believable5 Unbelievable16

Scott dann was on the bench for b,ham 2day.According to ian danter on talksport dann wants to leave and as his heart set on a move to either us or l,pool. so u cannot slag him off if he was not even on the pitch

{Ed022's Note - I stand corrected! I assumed he would play. However in light of this evidence it seems it was well worth Arsenal's top scout watching him. The scout later said "Dann's positional sense was good as he moved up and down the Birmingham bench. His man marking skills were also very good as he sat tightly next to David Murphy, rarely letting him out of his sight...}

Agree0 Disagree0

If he comes to Arsenal, I think he will spend the entire season picking splinters out of his Arse.
Cant see him getting in ahead of Kos and Verminator

Maybe that is what Wenger wants. I mean I dont think you could put Cahill on the bench and he wants to play Kos

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny yeah.But i think he is a good defender better than squillaci and djourou anyway. B,hams defence fell apart after he got injured last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is this the 'super special' talent we've been hearing about? :P
I always like to put a positive spin on things. He's a good age, a good height and he'll play his socks off to try and get into the starting line-up. I'd sooner have Dann as back-up as opposed to Squillaci

Slick Mick

Agree0 Disagree0

Scott dann didnt even get off the bench..so didnt help

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice way to deflect from you being wrong there ed022. Good joke...

Agree0 Disagree0

Dann is a mid-table PL defender, no more. Not what we need at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scott dann was a unplayed sub

Agree0 Disagree0

He didn't play. He was an unused sub even though they were losing from quite early on which may mean he's off from there. Is he any good, though? And is he the 'super quality' signing Wenger wants to make?

Agree0 Disagree0

He's carrying a calf injury (niggles after a long injury), hasn't played much pre-season apart from 1 halve in the first 2 pre-season games. He's a scouser anyway.

Man United to swoop for Nasri with Carrick going the other way.

Tom

{Ed022's Note - Put simply. I hope not. Carrick is pants...}

Believable8 Unbelievable19

Carrick isn't even pants. He's like hand-me-down boxer shorts. With the elastic waist strap on the dodgy side of elasticity.

{Ed022's Note - Pants was me being polite as I deleted what I was originally going to write. I agree completely with your point...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hold on we just sent Denilson away on loan because God knows he can't pass forwards... and now we're getting Carrick the crab?

Agree0 Disagree0

Carrick is awful

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's speculated he only signed a new contract at United so that they could pretend he's a top dollar midfielder before selling him

Agree0 Disagree0

Whoever speculated that a player is offered a contract to fool other teams he is good is an idiot.
On that logic we need to offer new contracts to Almunia, Denilson and Bendtner. Long term ones at that so we can get loads for them.

Do Man City really want Nasri ? Yes

Does Wenger want him out after their row ? Yes

Do City have players that we could really do with ? Yes

Just look at the players in their squad which we could so do with right now

Richards, Kompany, De Jong, Ml / Adam Johnson, Bridge, Kolarov , Onuoha, Zabaleta, Lescott ........

Not saying that City would be happy to do a swap and I know that swaps are rare but for God sake Wenger at least have a go ....... Show some B***s ......... It's not like we have much to lose considering the way things are going atthe moment.

At least try.

{Ed022's Note - Woah woah woah!!!! Stop. Rewind... Wayne Bridge?! Are you kidding me?! Did you not see his West Ham debut against us? He was OUR best player with some god awful defending. Not good enough. Onouha is decent but not good enough. Kompany is Man City captain and Richards is first choice RB so they're out. De Jong is a first teamer and on £175,000 a week so thats a no go. Kolarov and Zabaleta are not up to scratch in my opinion. Lescott is on massive wages and first team too. Adam Johnson is a squad player admittedly but I don't think Mancini will let him go. Especially to Arsenal, even though we've sold them Toure, Adebayor and Clichy in recent times...}

Believable3 Unbelievable16

You right Ed they wont let us have any of theirs so y the hell dont we just say sod off to them. I just cant get my head round this. It makes my blood boil to think they have the neck to say you cant have one of ours but we are having one of yours, Wenger tell them who you want and then see how much they want Nasri, if you dont you must be a right pussy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Loving this thread....Ed, your reply made me properly LOL, nice one
But seriously, Adam Johnson, definitely. The rest ....not so much.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we need a left back, so why not swap Nasri for Clichy?

There are reports Arsenal have landed Joel Campbell for 900k. For me this is a good signing with potential to be world class.

Ed, do you agree ?

{Ed022's Note - Personally I have not seen much of the kid if im honest. Which I am. I have dispatched a team of scouts to the Under 20 World Cup and have been getting regular updates on his performances. We all know players can have world class potential. Fulfilling it is another thing entirely. As for the deal being completed, upon his return from the World Cup we will see if he signs.}

Believable22 Unbelievable3

What about Afobe ?

How many young players do we need for God sake.

Agree0 Disagree0

You cant pay 30 million for every player of your team, so if some of the youngsters come through, you are saving alot of money

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, apart from the fact that we dont pay 30 million for any player of our team

Agree0 Disagree0

What do u mean you've dispatched scouts to the u20 s worldcup? Getting a bit carried away are u m8?you don't know anymore than what anyone who reads these pages know, you've got no inside sources on arsenal all you do is edit a rumours page. Get over yourself.

{Ed022's Note - Hahahahaha. Oh dear! They say sarcasm is the lowest form of humour but how intelligent must you NOT be to completely believe what I wrote as the truth. It was quite clear I was making a joke and if you were a regular visitor to this site then you would recognise that. Therefore I suggest it is you that "gets over themselves" and if you don't like it then there's the door...}

arsene wenger has said he hopes to anounce the signing of a 'super quality' player next week. i have no idea who it could be but im guessing it might be a winger or attacking player as nasri is nearing his exit after having a row with wenger. in my opinion i think it may be either juan mata or eden hazard. we have first option on hazard and lille will sell but they want it done now instead of last minute as they want time to find a replacement. this signing could be exciting

{Ed022's Note - A note of caution. Wenger has not said we'l sign a super quality player next week. The direct quotes were...

AW: "We work very hard, we are non-stop working throughout the summer. I am positive because we have good quality and a style of play that is known by the players. So we want to add not quality but super quality."

Reporter: Are Arsenal close to a new signing?

AW:"No, not at the moment. We hope to give you some good news soon. Next week, something might happen."

Sorry to dampen the spirits. Just want to keep things in perspective.}

Believable14 Unbelievable4

Thanks for setting things straight but atleast this shows that we are doing something and something that would seem very positive by the sounds of it

Caughtoffside is good, but often unreliable though.

{Ed022's Note - How'd you work that out? Good but unreliable. Thats like saying RVP is good but often injured...}

I tried being positive yesterday. While my outlook remains so on the whole, it looks clear now that Cesc and Nasri are off. While this sends out a fairly negative message about us not being able to hold on to our best players, all is not lost.
I won't be sad to see the back of Nasri. He is far too inconsistent and has an air of self-importance that is not healthy for the team. When we lost games to so-called 'smaller' clubs, he was one of the guys who thought he could just turn up and win.
Cesc on the other hand will be missed. However, I can't help thinking that in some ways he held the team back. Because he is the focal point of the team, players were always seeking him out. This led to the increasingly frustrating tippy-tappy approach we have got used to seeing.
Transfer-wise, we'll see a CB (Jags), a winger (Mata or Chamberlain) and a striker (Campbell) Ramsey will move into the Cesc role. I'd like to see Vermaelen made captain but I think it'll be RVP. This is opinion only. Just using logic and common-sense.

Slick Mick

{Ed022's Note - Morning Mick, you're brave! Using common sense and logic? At the same time? Phew! That's the future right there! I agree that one or both are gone this summer and feel Ramsey will step into role and alongside Wilshere form a very good partnership.}

Believable18 Unbelievable3

Finally someone on here is speaking sense
I Just want Wenger to use the money we get from the sulkers to bolster our defence

Agree0 Disagree0

Excellent comments. I would go one step further in respect of Fabregas, whom I always thought was overrated & was made to look better than he is, as everything is played through him. He lacks pace, his tackling isnt great & he has failed to drive us forward as our captain & cant compare to the greats, Admas, Vieira & Henry. As for the purchases, definitely one CB as Arsene told us, hopefully not Jagielka (another barely 6ft CB), I would prefer Cahill or Samba. I believe Mata may still come (he looks superb on Utube, hence the Gazidis 'holiday' in Spain. I think we will also sign Oxlade-Chaimberlain as well as Campbell (almost confirmed). With the superb Wilshere, fit again Ramsey & Song we have the basis of an excellent midfield. We won nothing with Fabregas & Nasri and as long as signings along the lines of those mentioned are made I am optimistic for the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

Afternoon Ed and thanks for the comments.
As an aside, I was just re-living former glories and looking at our previous double-winning sides under Wenger. 1998 team: David Seaman, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, Martin Keown, Tony
Adams, Ray Parlour, Patrick Vieira, Emmanuel Petit, Nicolas Anelka, Dennis Bergkamp, Marc Overmars.
2002 team: David Seaman, Lauren, Sol Campbell, Martin Keown, Ashley Cole,
Fredrik Ljungberg, Patrick Vieira, Edu, Robert Pires, Thierry Henry, Dennis
Bergkamp.
Both primarily a 4-4-2. I'd love to see a return to this more direct approach. Admittedly our current crop lack the same power but how about-
2011-12 team- Szczesny, Sagna, Vermaelen,
Koscielny, Gibbs, Arshavin, Wilshere, Ramsey, Gervinho, Van Persie, Walcott.
Obviously any new signings would make this subject to change. Song and Chamakh would be on the bench, called upon to hold on to leads, something we've had a major problem with. Arshavin and Gervinho would swap positions much like Ljungberg and Pires used to. Any thoughts?

{Ed022's Note - I think that the preferred formation nowadays is a
4-3-3 that can revert to a 4-5-1 when defending. A lot of international teams use it such as Italy, Germany, Spain and Brazil and they've done alright on the International scene. Arsene Wenger made the decision to change formation and now every level of Arsenal from the youth set up to the first team now play a 4-3-3 /
4-5-1 formation. Personally I love a good attacking 4-4-2 but without the defensive unit of an Adams, Dixon, Keown and Winterburn playing in front of a legend in Seaman we are suspect to being opened up at the back.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I am aware that this us the preferred set-up. It's just we haven't won a title since the switch in tactics. Is it a personnel issue. It just seems to me that this formation looks good on paper, however due to the high defensive line we get opened up more than ever before. How many 'balls over the top' goals have we conceded? Thank God we sold Clichy

Slick Mick

{Ed022's Note - Thats my point, we do get opened up as we don't have the regimental line of the arms up offside appeal brigade...}

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with your post although I feel that we will need at least one replacement if both depart. Three players who I would like to see are the Marvelous Marvin Martin, Douglas Costa or Mario Gotze. Valbuena would also be very good. We cannot rely on Ramsey and Wilshere as both are young and relatively inexperienced.

hi ed i posted on here a couple of weeks ago that i was told by an ex german student of ours who is a sports journalist now, that we are interested in a player from belgium and a player in germany who is not german he told me its still on.
we wont tell me there names untill hes 100 percent sure hes winding me up by not telling me and he knows it
any ideas

{Ed022's Note - Im sorry to say without anymore information in your post it could be a number of players. I unfortunately don't know which player it could be...}

ed why does every 1 think we will only get about 23 million for him if he goes its not the same as cesc there will be about 6 clubs in for him and i expect to get a better offer than that. if club wants a player they will pay the asking fee.i bet we never quoted a price to any 1 for nasri.but i expect him only do business for cash.i think this could determine who we really go for in the transfer market wenger was banking on him staying but wants to go.
with CL qualifier coming up thats when he will call barcelona and any 1 that is after nasri bluff any clubs that want are players want them for the big prize the CL and they all want to win it now
mark wexford

{Ed022's Note - The difference in the valuations is that Nasri is in the last season of his contract. If he is on £90,000 a week then thats £4.68m over the course of his last year. Coupled with bonuses then double it and I think £20m is a massive price to ask for and one that I'd snap there hand off rather than letting him go on a free in June. Cesc although he is a "one club" man in regards to transfers is under contract until 2014. He is on £115,000 if im not mistaken so that would be £17.94m over the next three years, add the bonuses and double it and there's your £40m valuation. A bit like Gary Cahill being £17m when he is out of contract in June...}

Believable9 Unbelievable1

People like city and inter or even real would love some 1 like nasri you could get a bidding war. and if munich get involved there could be a an exchange for ribbery because they could never have been in the same team because they dont like each other plus nasri would not cost big on wages he would take 140k a week thats more than double his wages compared to tevez who will want 250k a week i just think this is going to shape are transfer plans more than cesc the club all ways planned for this but not nasri

Guys i have found out that our chief exec has "gone on vacation", i hear that ivan has been at logger heads with arsene over the transfers targets this summer. ivan and his team have been working hard on negotiations all summer which have been fruitless, this is due to the fact that technical decisions are decided by the manager, he has the final word. ivan has tried to transform the club on the commercial side but feels he is been blocked in his attempts to encourage arsene in purchasing players which would raise the profile of the club. This will lead to ivan handing his resignation, expect ivan to leave by end of september.

Nasri and Arsene have also been involved in a stand up row on the plane to germany in front of the squad, chief execs and supporters. Nasri will be shipped out in this window.

edd have you caught wind of this?

{Ed022's Note - I have not heard anything on Ivan "the terrible" and Arsene "purse strings" Wenger having a bust up. I wouldn't be surprised as there has definitely been words said from IG saying we'd spend big, big changes etc... it seems he has been pushing for transfers that havent happened. Who knows? We'l have to see how it plays out.}

Believable11 Unbelievable4

He hasn,'t gone on vacation as such, he is doing business, this is coming from talksport

Theres only one man who has ever had wengers trust and ability to convince the stubborn french man on transfers - DAVID DEIN . bring him back

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2011 09:49:19
I have a feeling Wenger has accepted that both Fabregas & Nasri are going. Hence he has engineered an 'argument' with Nasri so the player will want to leave, rather than runnng down his contract & leaving for nothing. Arsenal will then collect the £20+ million fee from whoever buys him.
In Fabregas's case, he is retaining his value by not playing him, risking injury & possibly making him cuptied for the CL.
I believe Wenger has a plan in place for their replacement. The first being the signing of Mata, hence all the 'noise' & the second a surprise signing to lift the spirits of the team & fans. Be patient fellow Gooners.

Believable16 Unbelievable7

05 Aug 2011 16:13:26
Hi Ed....

Just wondering, if Fabregas and Nasri play any of the CL games against Udinese will this make them Cup tied..

{Ed022's Note - Yes, if Cesc or Nasri play in one of the qualifiers then they will be cup tied from Barca and Man City should they join them this summer. I have a sneaky feeling both will be "injured" for the games as Arsenal will not to devalue the players transfer fee but by then being cup tied.}

Believable8 Unbelievable2

They will only be cup tied if we go through Not a given by any means.

{Ed022's Note - No if they play in a qualifier then they will be cup tied for any group stage games if they join another club...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Oops-ur right of course, since we will automatically go to Europa league group stage, the player would only be eligible if we were knocked out of Europealtogether.

"I don't think Fabregas will be ready to start the season because he has been out for along time and has had no games" said Wenger. Today we have our last freindly an ideal chance to get Fabregas match fit even if he plays for only 30mins.
AW has definately lost the plot and is blinded by his love for the player.

Believable11 Unbelievable5

Fabregas hasn't travelled with the 19 man squad

Agree0 Disagree0

Check out Arsenal.com before posting fella
fabs hasn't even travelled with the 19 man squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I agree- it does seem ironic and contradictory, fab isn't injured, yet he doesn't play because he has been out a long time? Surely that's what a friendly uncompetitive game is for, to gain match practise, etc if needed. However...let's face it , it has more to do with fab going- if he was staying he would be playing today.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know that, why did he not take him to get him match fit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fab is mos likely fit, Wenger won't risk injury to him because it would lower his sale value. Fab won't play another game for AFC imho. :(

{Ed022's Note - I agree it seems very unlikely Fabregas will play for us again. Let us remember the good moments of brilliance he has given us and understand his desire to go "home" to Barcelona.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, Ed if only you were the manager.

{Ed022's Note - I too share the same feeling in addition to a lot of fans. We all see what to do but obviously it isn't as easy as jumping on football manager and winning the league. We all know Wenger is stubborn with regards to change and thinking differently but surely he must see what is required...surely?}

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2011 08:29:58
This is what Mr. Wenger should do if he is really looking for cheap quality players:
Sign Parker/ Hitzelsperger, Marvin Matin (this guy is pure talent esp on quality delivery and freekicks), a deal for Macdonald Mariga (kenyan midfielder missed out by city last season coz of permit issues but a quality box 2 box player in the mould of Yaya, currently rotting on the bench at Inter and a arsenal boyhood fan)as cover for any midfield position, and a Joel Campbell deal(pure class..next Henry).

Believable10 Unbelievable9

Lyon are working on a deal for Mariga, he will then b an important player in their c.l quest, his price will def rise to 17mili, then Chelsea will buy him in place of Mikel..another stolen under Wenger's nose
