Anyone else think it's criminal we didn't put a bid in for Ashley young? I mean talk about the perfect nasri replacement, and the guys an arsenal fan - would've surely counted for something...

Believable48 Unbelievable15

Considering the players we lost, the price utd paid for him and the price we paid AOC....im still shocked we didnt sign Young.

Agree0 Disagree0

Could have signed him from Watford before he went to Villa, wenger did not want to spend 7 million on a unproven 17 old......

Agree0 Disagree0

I am too. But then maybe AW knew that Man U were sniffing around a long long time ago and didn't want to waste his energy. WHo knows. Maybe he just thought he's overrated.

Young is one of my fav players, wish he wasn't tearing it up for United.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest he was not playing that well consistantly for Aston Villa last season and had seemed to go backwards. It is only since he moved that he now looks a good player again on a consistant basis again. We will have to wait a see weather in the long run Wenger going for AOC rather than Young was the best move.

Agree0 Disagree0

Looking at our recent history on bidding for players,I think we would have probably put in such a low bid that Aston Villa(and Young)would still be laughing now,and anyway,I don't think he would fit within our wage structure.If we can't pay big boy wages,we can't play with the big boys.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the difference is knowing when there is an amazing player who is at the wrong club and not reaching potential, but every time they get the ball they look dangerous (Young, Downing, Adam) and knowing when they're someone who looks promising but wouldn't be any better anywhere else (N'Zogbia, Rodallega). Sometimes you just know, and Young is one of them for me, it was obvious we would regret not signing him because whatever he did after Villa it was going to be impressive.
Raz

Agree0 Disagree0

On top of his fee, his reported wages were £160,000 per week. There is simply no way we can compete with Man U, Man C & Chelsea on such wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

We can, we just don't. Our owners use the club to get richer. they use the sustainable business model to cover costs and maximise profits, not to cover costs and increase performance or re-invest, which is a base business target of any reputable business. We are a cash cow for someone who really doesn't need the money, and the team's success is not a priority for them. They don't mind not winning things, which is appalling, and they don;t reinvest to achieve success, which is appalling. We could easily pay Ashley Young's wages, we just don't. Yes wages may be disgusting etc etc but we need to get with the times. Also AW is on over 115K a week, it's not as though he's on 50K exactly.

Agree0 Disagree0

No he never played well for villa last season because he was found out, he's very one footed, when he is playing on the left dont let him cut in on to his right, show him down the line and he is ineffective. Our problem when we played manu was the naivety of our full backs, Jenkinson let him move inside twice and paid the price.

Agree0 Disagree0

We've got his younger brother Kyle though! Ashley rates him as better than himself. O did I not say he's 15!!!

CrossRoss

Agree0 Disagree0

Does not matter what he went for, United would outbid and offer higher wages whatever. No win situartion for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Villa was a gold mine for players and and we got none. Decent!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Better replacement ----- Eden Hazard cos hes better

my quick analysis
its simple get rid of the dead wood
this is
almunia(Damian Martinez)
squillaci(miquel)
diaby(coquelin)
rosicky(afobe)
chamakh(aneke)
we should get at least 20m for them
immediate replacements=()
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
what we need
()=new signings
a centre back (Alex/cahill)
a P/WC-DM(M'villa)
a P/WC-AM(martin/hazard/alacantara)
a P/WC-F(benzema)
P/WC=potential/world class
we have a lot of great players coming through and there is no lack of talent in the youth team and they are doing well .
-------------------
a new director of football =
(former-player=adams/dixon)
(Giles grimandi)
and then former players helping the club a whole list of former players keep on going on and on about the problems they themselves can help and do something writing a blog on talkSPORT is not going to do anything so id like them to help if all those happen which probably wont then we will dominate again problem is the odds are it wont but if something similar happens or 50% of it happens it will still benefit the club.
but the link between us the fans and the club needs to be closer . silent stan needs to be more open and there need to be more open conferences maybe even once every 6 months to see where we are financially what will be doe about it and to ask general questions so that me and you can go to the emirates ask are question and get an answer
it wont happen but it is a step in the right direction
but just my mere thoughts i only want what is best for the club
Tricky one. I wouldn't be happy with Afobe replacing Rosicky yet. If he comes good this season then perhaps, but not yet. I would have him replaced by Lansbury, and I'd use Afobe or Aneke to replace Chamakh.
Keeper-wise I don't think we need to replace, just sell Almunia, we have Szcz, Flap and Mann-o-war.
Diaby just proves our squad is too big IMO. I don't think there is player at the club who gives us less haha. Trouble is with your suggestions, and no disrespect, is that Coquelin was pants at Man U, and if your replacements all palyed on the pitch at the same time in the prem they'd get destroyed, so for me they aren't replacements yet, and still need others now. Otherwise we'd have sold Diaby and Rosicky already no?
With Song, Frimpong and Djourou I wonder if we really need another DM?
I'd take MMM and Hazard and Alcantara and Benzema with a view to selling Arshavin, Rosicky next year and replacing Cesc and Nas.
Agree with you on virtually everything except we wouldn't get 20m for that lot even at todays prices and I'd also add dear old Andriy intothe pot of "offskis". Re bringing old players, you sare spot one. Promote Steve bould but also get thierry in, Martin Keown in, Lee dixon off the sofa. Gilles Grimandi is a fair shout in some capacity , but most of all BRING BAcvK David Dein! Good post
Agree0 Disagree0
I know this sounds stupid but I actually think diaby would be a decent player if he stayed fit and got a run in the team.
Agree0 Disagree0
Hmm it seems you just want to replace the whole squad? I really believe Chamakh still has a lot to offer, I know last season wasn't that great but if he can find his confidence again an we start playing to his ariel strengths I think he'll be class. I still believe Diaby and Rosicky have a lot to offer too. Just need them playing regular and on form!
Gooners
Agree0 Disagree0
Aren't Rosicky & Arshavin's contracts up end of this season anyway. Anyone know how long some of the other deadwoods have?
Agree0 Disagree0
I would be willing to keep Chamack as remember he did show early good form for us, so it is too early to write him off for me. Diaby I think can be an effective attacking midfielder with his skilful strong forward runs and powerful shot but in that position he does not really suit our style. He has been plagued by injuries so we have never really seen him perform for a longer period to see how he would settle into the side. He would work better if we became more of a counter attacking side again so a difficult one to call for me. I also think if Arshavin does not start showing some major effort and application he can go in January aswell (Maybe we can use him to bring the price down on M'Villa or Hazard)
Agree0 Disagree0
Some people think that five players in a team is the whole squad ??
Agree0 Disagree0
Lol, talking about the attack aren't we.
1-1 draw against Swansea on Saturday and its not going to get much better. Wenger will be gone by end of October hopefully as a majority of the fans have lost faith in him and so will the board. Cahill looked solid on Saturday and will get better, then go manutd for free next summer to replace vidic/ferdinand.
Believable21 Unbelievable55
So why would United want him when the have Smalling and Jones already pushing for ttheir places.
Agree0 Disagree0
Cheer up charlie, your just the sort of fan arsenal need at the moment.....
Agree0 Disagree0
Smalling's at right back now no?
Agree0 Disagree0
The last bit i believe no end, as for the rest, get over yourself man, its football, take the bad times as well as the good, we'll be okay
Agree0 Disagree0
Lol WUM.
Agree0 Disagree0
You are such an idiot.
Obviously not a real arsenal fan, just a fair weather fan. You disgust me.
Agree0 Disagree0
Smalling is a CB and is only playing at right back as the twins are both injured.
Agree0 Disagree0
Mertesacker > cahill
Agree0 Disagree0
Cahill will go to Chel$ki, not Man Utd, Man Utd have what they need and we've got Mertesacker
Agree0 Disagree0
I think that our squad is stronger than chelskis and will definately be the best in the league if we bring in cahil on a free in summer and hazard £18 mil plus arshavin (they said they wanted a replacement)and m'vila £25 mil
chelski have an aging squad and cant see any youth coming through that would be a suitable replacement for the likes of terry,lampard, drogba, anelka, cole and more
89 gooner {Ed002's Note - Chelsea have bought a number of young players this summer that look very good: Ulises Davila, Courtois, Romeu, Lukaku. They have Bertrand and Van Aanholt who look like excelent replacements for Cole. Sturridge and McEachran both look good and Chalobah looks one for the future. Mata was added this summer as well. Ramires and Luiz were added last season and it looks like de Bruyne will arrive in January. So perhaps the Chelsea squad is not aging as much as you think.}
Agree0 Disagree0
Chelsea Have David Luis
Agree0 Disagree0
Who do you suggest we replace Wenger with?
Agree0 Disagree0
George Graham
Agree0 Disagree0
George Graham Couldnt Achieve Have Of What Wenger Did Then So what Could Have Changed Now
Agree0 Disagree0
Half*
Agree0 Disagree0
Massive pressure for Wenger if score is 1-1 on Sat, and the following results against Blackburn & Bolton are not good. This is being over looked by the blogs. There is no room for error now. Have the board held back funds for a replacement manger in case things do not improve with the signings?
Agree0 Disagree0
^^^Lets Not Be Silly We All Know They Just want To Make Money
Agree0 Disagree0
So the board keep penny pinching, Wenger makes do, keeps us stable, keeps us in the Champions League..... GOON...
So lets get rid of a manager that would walk into any vacant football managerial role on the planet. Who has done nothing except listen to idots like you for the past 3 years talking absoloute Garbage....
Yeah lets get rid of Wenger and get Tony Adams....
Agree0 Disagree0
What's this rubbish we have the best squad if we just bring in this that or the other. So we don't then.!!
