Arsenal and Wenger have stepped up their interest in Marvin Martin as he will be an ideal replacement for Nasri, Martin is a fantastic player with still sooo much potential.Alex Oxelade-Chamberlain and Joel Campbell deal is basically completed we would be paying 7 million plus add ons for Chamberlain and 1 million for Campbell. These two young signings would be absolutely fantastic as for now and the future as Joel Campbell should full fill to be our 'New Henry' also Werder Bremen have offered us Per Mertesacker. They have said they will accept anything around the 6 million mark. i find this a bargain as he could be a major experience to our younger players as he is a WORLD CUP winner, Also he has still some playing time left in him, could still possibly play up to 5 more seasons.

TomArsenal

{Ed022's Note - I would just like to say I am "Marvellous" Marvin Martin's agent/PR Manager and have been bigging him up massively on here over the last few weeks in the hope that we will sign him. I get a 10% commission should he sign on the dotted line...}

Believable9 Unbelievable3

Mertersacker is not a 'WORLD CUP winner' you fool.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, Germany won it more recently than England, so maybe that counts. He was pretty young, but he might remember it.
Andre

Agree0 Disagree0

When did mertersaker win a world cup??

Agree0 Disagree0

Definately not a world cup winner Zee germans last won it in 1990 if i am not mistaken.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mertesacker is NOT a world cup winner... and he is not even that good at all. i am from germany and i can assure you that he makes as much mistakes as any other average defender. he is tall bat that's it. so many mistakes in crucial games... i really hope he does NOT join because this would wreck our defence further... i promise he is not the guy we need (too inconsisten)

Agree0 Disagree0

Which world cup did mertesacker win?

Agree0 Disagree0

Metersacker is not a world cup winner as he is german and if u look at the last 4 world cup winners they were France brazil Italy and spain

Agree0 Disagree0

First of all sadly wenger is not interested in mertesacker he would of made a bid earlier for him so the only 2 cbs we are chasing now is samba, for me not good enough for our problem and jagielka good at everton but can he raise his game for us, NO, so the best option which Wenger seems to of got cold feet on is Cahill. However good this martin is he cant just be our only attacking signing cos again foreign not used to prem get mata aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

"Something about Mertersacker not winning a world cup"

Hi guys,
From what I can gather we have some interest in Per Mertesacker. Now alot of people are saying "oh no dont get him hes slow, and getting on a bit". All we need is to have him for say 1-3 seasons to teach Koscielny and step in when injuries occur. Bargain for 6 million. BUT would still Prefer to get Jan Vertonghen - he would be insane back with vermaelen.

Tommy P

{Ed022's Note - Tommy, totally agree. Vertonghen has been my pick from day one. The two V's in the centre would be an awesome pairing.}

Believable15 Unbelievable5

Wenger stated ages ago that he doesnt like to play 2 lefties or 2 righties at centre back. Vertonghen is a leftie so that would pretty much rule him out. and if you look back at the 2 "Vs" time at ajax, they barely played together. so i dont think this is or has ever been a possability

paul - rochester

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed remember i posted about being told we were after a player from belgium and a player who is not german but plays in germany,the player from belgium is who you want and its suppose to be close to a deal,
mark wexford

{Ed022's Note - Vertonghen is a Belgian but plays in Holland though. Would that not rule him out?}

Agree0 Disagree0

The person told me tonite it was vertonghen i may have got mixed up with the german connection but he told me its on and very close and if you look how arsenal do business this would be the sort of hush hush deal they could pull off. i know you like him is he that good

{Ed022's Note - I have watched him quite a lot. I went to see an Ajax game last season and seeing him live, I was impressed. I think he is similar to Vermaelen and he is not too bad...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets hope its true then

Agree0 Disagree0

He didn't play today. Could be some truth to this. I sure hope so

{Ed022's Note - Ooooh the plot thickens... }

Agree0 Disagree0

Can mata play in a central role and would ribbery play on the wing maybe thats the german connection
mark wexford

{Ed022's Note - Well Ribery plays in Germany but isn't German so that works! Mata is primarily attacking left/central midfielder.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed i dont think you read my post properly and there seems to be a mix up read it again i didnt say a belgium player in germany

{Ed022's Note - As you didn't sign your post I presume this isn't Mark Wexford, who I was responding to. He said we were interested in a Belgian player (Vertonghen) and a player who is not German but plays in Germany (Ribery)...No confusion from me...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Vertonghen ribbery benzema mata
i would take that
mark wexford

{Ed022's Note - Mark I think we all would!}

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly think the club has some thing up there sleeves and i know i am the worse person on here for voicing my opinion on the board and lack of spending money.
BUT I HAVE A HUGE FEELING THOSE 4 COULD BE PULLED OF
MARK WEXFORD

{Ed022's Note - I am wishing away the days until September 1st so I can see who we've got!! Enough with the waiting already!!}

Agree0 Disagree0

With Gervinio, that would be 5 big first team people plus a few youngsters. As amazing as that would be, I don't see it happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

The names we are linked with today, Chamberlain, Cambell and Cahill may just keep us in the top 6, i thought Wenger would only spend money to improve the team, standing still is going backwards, if we buy these playuers they may be hits in three uyears time, but by then we will have lost RVP, Sagna, The Verminator and any one else who wants to win things. If you are willing to spend 12 mill on an untried 18 year old, spend a couple of mill more on players who can make a difference now, these signings will not help appease the fans at all For Cahill get Verthogen, for Chamberlain get Mata, for Cambell get a proven striker, i would love Benzema, but that aint gonna happen. Please do not consider Mertasaker, he is worse than Igors Stepanovs Just cos Germany won a world cup that does not mean he is good, ask any one who fallows German football

Agree0 Disagree0

When did germany win a World Cup? 1974? I dont think he had much to do w/ that.

arsenal have stepped up their interest in marvin martin and AOC and apparently the Joel Campbell deal is basically completed, also Werder Bremen have offered us Per mertesacker and could accept any deal worth around the 6m mark.

snejder for sale, why not get him to replace fab??

{Ed022's Note - Two reasons. £38m+ on transfer fee. £200,000 a week (alleged) wage demands. As much as I rate the player and think he would replace Fabregas. It just won't happen...}

Believable14 Unbelievable5

Genuinely believe that when Nasri and Cesc go that our central midfield should be Song, Wilshere, Ramsey. I think that would be incredible. You can argue a lack of experience but all the signs from Ramsey say that he has ability to exceed Fabregas' ability. There was no hesitation letting Cesc take over from Vieira so I don't think we should hesitate again. Moreover the understanding Wilshere and Ramsey seem to have already is quite amazing. I think our best bet would be to find a combative midfielder to come in to challenge. Rosicky can fill in the attacking role centrally (and looked good preseason doing it). Spend the money on Mata/Hazard, Hummels and Rodwell.

Szczesney
Sagna Hummels Vermaelen Gibbs
Song
Ramsey Wilshere
Gervinho RVP Mata

I wouldn't worry about that team.

mhc503

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont think sneijder will make us better than what cesc did...

we need to shore up the defense...get in a tough tackler and possibly a striker now with out 15-20 goal a season striker down and out once again.

As much as i want cesc to go to end this saga...i can appreciate how hard it will be to replace him and the fact that no one else in the 30-50 mill quid barrier can make a diff to arsenal the way he did...

ronaldo and messi are the only ones who would take us over the top.

Why would some russian club accept 4.4m for Traore when they signed him for ~9m in Jan...

of course, that's also his purchase price on FM11 - keep to that mate

Vertongen,hazard and mata would be nice but at the moment even emile hesky would be welcomed come on wenger sort it out alos gazidis out dein in

Hello, I have been reading all the recent posts and would like to add my comments:
1) Why keep Nasri? He does not want to stay, he would cost us the 13 million we paid to sign him if we let him go for free next season and was he really that good at the end of last season? lets get the 22m and hope that Arsene uses it wisely.
2) Cesc....I love the fact that his quality has shone for us for the past 5 seasons but he wants to go to Barca as the fact that he will waive his bonuses to aid the move....so as we did with Henry lets just let him go and thank him for his services and wish him well on the bench for Barca.
3) We all know we need at least one if not two defenders....personnaly I like Mertasacker (experience) and Cahill (top prospect) but would not turn down Jagielka. I would also like to see Baines signed as I thing Gibbs needs someone to learn from.
4) RVP is injury prone....Gervinho and Walcott could fill in but I honestly think we need to add another proven striker to aid RVP when he is injured which WILL happen. Chamackh is simply not good enough.
5) If both Nasri and Fabregas leave then we must sign a replacement or two.....personnally I would like to see Mata, Hazard and Parker signed as I feel that the quality they bring is badly needed in the heart of our midfield to help our future England star Jack make it to 25 without burn out.

All the doom and gloom around needs to be curbed, lets be honest we are a top four premiership club steeped in history going in the right direction under the leadership of a brilliant manager and I as one would think that, for what he has done in the past, lets get behind him for one more time and give the team the support they need to finally deliver on the promise that is quite clearly there....C'mon you rip roaring reds

Believable21 Unbelievable2

Well put, totally agree

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh i dont see arsenal buying a new LB. Wenger will sign one centre back and maybe parker. and i think walcott is good enough to be a striker cos hes quick and can finish. but we need a proper winger. dont think we will replace fabregas with som1 of his character and qualities because thats wenger for you.

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as im for getting behind wenger and the boys, you honestly think were going in the right direction?

i hope your right fellow gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

History gets you nothing. Leeds are steeped in history. Notts Forest had a great manager and a great history.

History is great but you are only as good as your last trophy

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger will only buy one player, not 7

Agree0 Disagree0

Well people on here are so negative, finish sixth , maybe make top 10, biggest mistake was moving to emirates, all these extra fans are not worth it and its not only the prawn cocktail brigade. booing at a pre season game is disgraceful.

Agree0 Disagree0

If only young Cesc would give up all his bonuses. So far, he's only offered to waive the next four years from Barcelona. He should man-up and ask for the transfer he, supposedly, wants so badly so that Arsenal don't have to pay him 4M out of the fee we eventually receive. Turron and eatin it imo.

Unlucky Clichy cant keep a 2-0 lead for 45minutes, was quite impressed with his backing away from the ball on the 93rd minute as well.

Is Wenger seriously splashing out £12 million for a championship player and not £20million for a young world class player like Mata or a decent player like Jagielka.
What has Arsenal come too. :/

Believable8 Unbelievable11

As much as i hate to defend clichy i dont thnik u can blame him for nani's 2nd goal and i dont think we can blame him if he was not playing when man u scored there first 2

Arsene says

'Cesc is just coming back from injury and he is not ready to play in the game'

What was he waiting for? Here was an opportunity to play him in a friendly, be it even for 5 minutes as you could play as many subs as you wanted.

Further evidence that he is trying to sell Cesc and doesn't want any further injury. With Cesc's hamstrings, he has just as much chance of injuring himself in training

TA LONDON

Believable8 Unbelievable2

I don't think he wants to sell fab at all- I think he realises that fab wants to go- nip picking perhaps but there is a difference never the less.

This transfer window has left me feeling very frustrated at the goings on at the emirates. Wengers stubborness is getting increasing worring, with the injuries to RVP, Gibbs, Wilshere and Walcott surely even Wenger must see that we need substancial reinforcements.

I really want to be positive about arsenals chances this season but unless we do get some quality additions to the squad i think we will struggle to finish 4th.

IMO we need to sign a CB, LB, STR and wide player so we can challenge for the title.

My prefered oprions would be:

CB - Vertoghen or Cahill
LB - Baines
Str - Benzema
Wide - Mata or Hazard

Believable20 Unbelievable4

I am led to believe that we have a certain monthly wage figure that we can only vary very slightly.So before we can add to the wage bill,we have to get players off it.That means selling,which doesn,t appear to be going very well.We sold Clichy and JET and brought in Gervinho and Jenkinson which probably allows a little bit of wages in reserve.
We need to get rid of Almunia,Bendtner and one or two others,so freeing up wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

Add a freby to the list and we may get third place this season, Joe Barton to do ajob, and he aint injured every other week. Are all our squad made of glass, it is so predictable, Van Persie, Walkot, Gibbs all injured AGAIN

Agree0 Disagree0

Aswell as getting rid of bentner and almunia add arshavin and squilacci to the out lidt we can rack 20 million from the sale of them two fab to go for 40 mill 60 mill easy, instead of hazard although awsome maybe get marvin martin as its more realistic. but a week to go to the start of the prem it cant see us completing the team for the opening game resulting in us losing to newcastle an ending up in thr europa league, hope im wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2011 13:19:13
i cannot believe we are close to signing oxlade-chamberlain.......for an eventual fee of 12 million?
what in gods name is wenger playing at?he wont pay the money for cahill,squillaci.he wont pay the fee for mata until we sell but he'll shell out 7 million upfront for another kid from the bloody championship
we cannot defend for toffee and instead of recitfying the problem wenger is spending money on joel campbell and AOC.get it sorted for crying out loud arsene

Believable17 Unbelievable5

Damned if he buys someone, damned if he don't

Agree0 Disagree0

No mate don't stoke the fire, it's got nothing to do with damned if he do damned if he don't. It's the fact that he won't a top quality defender with a proven record of quality, yet he'll sign a scrote who has never played in the premiership before, for equal price. That is appalling. It is also the fact that he woon't adress our biggest weaknesses, yet he has covered a position where we already had cover, and has replaced a player that is leaving. He has not done what the fans our the squad want him to do, and seems to be signing all these kids who simply are not a priority right now. I'd rather he Oxlade, Campbell and the other new kid and Jenko alone and focused on world class (30m euro a pop) striker, midfield, and two defenders. NOT HARD.

Hey ed? Any truth in the arsenal going for alex oxlade chambalain and doglas coster? {Ed002's Note - Yes for AOC but only a slim "perhaps" is there any serious interest in Costa. I suspect Costa's name will be prominent for a number of clubs in the coming weeks. At present, Roma and Napoli perhaps have the edge over the English sides who are interested, although Chelsea could make a push.}}

so it looks like were gonna sign douglas costa and chamberlain with our money from fabregas with 15 mill for costa and 12 mill for chamberlain and will spend 12 mill on samba
equals 39 mill and thats wat i think will happen and nasri will stay and we should have a title challenge

Everyone's thought are welcome.

Nasri to leave in the summer after bust-up with Wenger, but Fabregas to stay.

Wenger won't buy as he believes Ramsey's form will continue to improve after horror injury. Diaby and Rosicky will also provide enough options especially Rosicky after pre-season.

Wenger to buy 1 cb for less 12 mil for competition for fist team with kos and djourou.

Believable6 Unbelievable7

Nasri and cesc will leave but rest still applies. he will buy aoc and j.campbell as his marquee signings to boost our team destined for europa league next season...

Wenger looks set to complete a few deals before saturday.with fabregas and nasri leaving Douglas costa is set to be a replacement swell scott dann or jagielka will come through aswell chamberlain will be added and possibly mata as it still doesn't look clear wether he's staying at Valencia.I feel though wenger may push for either kagawa or lucho gonzalez aswell who has been apparently offered to us from Om hopefully wenger does fond the replacements this week.cmon u GOONERS.

Cahill to sign on wens and Campbell and hazard end off week money grabber nasri to also leave next week good riddance one assist all last season is not good enough so long Samir hope you enjoy sitting on city's bench

Believable11 Unbelievable14

How can you be so specific it will be Wdnesday?

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance he would be on the bench, that is just sour grapes

Nasri to city would be 20M bargain for them And a huge huge loss for us, especially to our direct rivals .... Wenger for all his managerial nous should know better than to trade so many players into the City squad.

They just lost 3-2 to United in the cup; it's just like when we play Utd.

Change my mind, I now consider City our biggest rivals next to United

Agree0 Disagree0

Did wenger do wrong by selling them adebayor?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sour grapes I don't think so he only ever had six good months for us now just like adebayor he thinks he world class your only that good if you can do that every game every season like messi or ronaldo and nasty and aid or no where near as good

shaun wright phillips & craig bellamy to be offered in payment for samir nasri, to push through the transfer this week

Believable5 Unbelievable21

What would we do with them? Are we now signing players to challenge the bench sitting regulars as I don't see them anywhere near the first team.

Agree0 Disagree0

So a 32 year old and nearly 30 year old on high wages in exchange for a 24 year old with huge potential? Sounds like a fantastic deal.

Christian Eriksen to replace city bound nasri,

Believable14 Unbelievable20

Afraid not. He told the Danish press today that he was proud to be liniked with City, but he would rather stay in Amsterdam. He don't want to go somewhere where he is not a starter week in week out. Great prospect though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say that Eriksen would actually be keen to play for us--we follow the same style of play, we promote youth... the only issue is that he's literally directly in Ramsey's spot. If we drop cesc AND Nasri (inevitable, isn't it?) and pick up Eriksen I'll be a happy spaniel.
