Out of all the teams United could have got they got Brugge. It's never a gimme I know but was hoping for a little tuffer side a long away trip or something. Something like the besiktas we had last year.

I should really just concentrate on our great team and not be so fussed about them really

When it comes to utd being patriotic goes out the window, come on Brugge :-)

english league is now 3rd in uefa coefficients. with la liga and bundesliga ahead of us due to their success in european competitions and italy are close behind us in 4th.

while we are close to the bundesliga in terms of regaining 2nd spot.

to have teams not competing in the latter stages of the european competitions be it champions league or europa league will hurt us.

and while we may take that 4th champions league spot for granted, if we do lose it, it may turn out to haunt one of our teams in the future.

so while i don't support united, and i don't want them to win the champions league...for them to get to the quarter finals or semi finals does well for our standing in europe.

{Ed002's Note - This is not new. England have been third for some time. You are worrying unnecessarily right now about losing the fourth spot. I suspect nothing will change for England much before the whole thing is restructured because of a breakaway pan-European League. In terms of club ranking MU has dropped below MC now.}

You can look at it two ways G62. Them going out would be funny. But the extra games they have to play would be a welcome distraction

There we have it, Ed002 has confirmed utd being knocked out in the preliminary round wouldn't affect the premier league 4 team qualification at all.
So I urge everyone to do their duty and get behind Brugge 100%.
A we don't want the rest of Europe to have to endure LVG/utd brand of football
B it would be soooooo funny :-)

I'm buying that G62. A nice little draw between them and spuds today will do nicely as well

I don't think you have the final point on this, hopefully they'll lose to Bruge so they then get chucked into fun-loving Thursday night football, which turns every team into useless idiots! That's what I'm preying for!

g62 i noticed yousaid jenks couldent play, is that true? doesn't wenger normally allowed loaned players to play against us?

League rule. Wenger would let him play, but other managers are not as fair minded. (I mean replaying a game because the ball was not kicked out and a player was injured? Letting your loaned players play against you? Wenger has his flaws but he is a purist).

As far as I know players don't play against their parent club in league games I'm not sure if its a rule but I can understand why I wood be, imagine Jenks trying to explain to hammers fans all 5 own goals were accidental :-)

{Ed002's Note - It is a rule.}

Ed, you are as always right.

.eden., is also right though. Wenger used to let the loanees play against Arsenal, and then the league changed the rule, because clubs were inconsistent and I guess because of the risk of what g62 said happening.

Although, if I were playing against my parent club, I would be looking to put in a man of the match performance to show the boss what he was missing...except if it was the last game of the season and Arsenal needed 3 points for the title...then I would ask the loan boss to sit me for fear of doing what g62 suggested.
