Eds i just wanted to get some info about a few things;
1)is it true arsenal tried to buy david trezeguet with a huge bid? after the 2002 world cup i believe.

2)is it true iniesta was available when rijkaard was still manager? and arsenal tried to sign him?

3)did arsenal really try to sign ronaldhino before he went to barce??

thanks, Waq {Ed002's Note - (1) There was interest in Trezeguet but it was later than 2002 if memory serves. (2) I have no recollection. (3) Not that I recall but Manchester United did.}

No.3.. Yes, AW tried to sign him from Gremio but encountered work permit issues (atleast thats what AW claims) that prevented the move from happening. So, thats another one in the rather long almost signed list of AW.

Agree0 Disagree2

It is an open fact that Ibra and Ronaldo were available for cheapo cheap but Wenger wanted them to take trial which made them angry...

i heard some very good news for us gunners today

huntalaar and mbiwa will sign in january for arsenal

more good news theo walcott is in talks with arsenal over a 4 year deal with 80,000 wages

good news all round

Believable20 Unbelievable52

I would assume that if Huntelaar signs Theo won't because that would be another striker playing ahead of him in his 'preferred' role. Zaha to come in if/when Theo leaves...

And then you woke up.......been dreaming

Agree0 Disagree0

A I the only one that wants to see Walcott play off either giroud or potentially huntelaar, would be amazing and cazorla could cut in from left, podolski from right, with arteta and wilshire central.
We also need another CB and left back, I'd love hummels and cissokho

Agree0 Disagree0

You say another cb. Out of interest who would you drop?

Go on theo sign the bleddy thing

Agree0 Disagree0

Yup and I heard that we have signed Fellaini as well! Prediction... Henry on a short term loan. Walcott will stay until the end of the season & walk out for nothing. We will make low offers for other players & sign nobody. We will get knocked out in the next round of the CL. Chelsea will beat us in the Capital One Cup. Swansea will beat us in the FA CUp & we wont finish top 4. Wenger will make every excuse in the book & will stay for his final season. He will leave to manage France.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd drop vermaelen, gd player but average at best D16

Agree0 Disagree0

No way schelke will sell hunter still in the league and cl race. Plus there not arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

Average at best this season I meant!

Agree0 Disagree0

How do u no we signed Fellani

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to say he has been a mixed player this season, hard to drop him tho seeing as he is captain and i do still rate him highly, hummels and mertresacker would be a really good duo tho

Dear compatriots in the doom and gloom contingent,
Slowly but surly everything we've said is coming true. We may not all agree on a solution, but we should by now all agree that there is a problem. I've said before that innovation made Mr. Wenger great. Innovation in training methods, dietary restriction, scouting policy et al, allowed Arsenal FC to triumph against odds, and conventional wisdom. All the things we did then when no one was doing them meant that we had an edge. I know that when I start throwing numbers and statistical analysis into my posts you probably all switch off, but statistics are just taking what we all see, and putting some numbers to it. My point is, as I've cited before a clubs wage bill accounts for that clubs position 92% of the time. That is HUGE. HOWEVER look at say.. the invincible season. Arsenal had the 2nd highest wage bill in the prem. This means they "over-performed" for that season. Likely as a result of innovation. Watching a team go unbeaten for an entire season must make other managers take some notice. after that season Arsenal just about always finished where their wage bill says they would. If it's not possible for our great club to spend like our rivals (and some might argue that not only is it not possible but also not desirable), then we must do things differently. Watching Arsenal season in and out do the same thing over and over again is like watching a child in school be allowed to retake a test and still tick all the same boxes. We changed the game and left the others behind. Now, the game is changing and leaving us behind. Those of us who think Wenger doesn't have the answers anymore need to put our heads together, and make an argument with one voice about just what this club needs to do to get back in the game. Unless we're just like everyone says we are, "A right miserable lot, who likes to grumble about how unfair the world is." Be the change you want. Charlie, Bones, anyone else... What does this club need to do?

Needs a new manager, get rid of dead wood, stop buying average players, spend on world class players

"allowed Arsenal FC to triumph against odds" - this sentence is what is wrong, and the clubs rhetoric which supporters are buying into, we are one of the riches clubs in history and finance. WE SHOULD BE TOP EVERY YEAR and not against the odds.
Wenger likes to triumph against the odds so lets have a new manager or board that believes AFC are the best.
for me the club needs consumer pressure like booing as nothing is going to change while people at the top like Wenger and Tom Fox believe we are successful without actually being successful.
4th place is just that ........

The problem we have is that the Club seem content to finish 4th and compete in each year in the Champions League. By finishing 4th, we do not have to pay the wages that the winners pay and this suits the Financial Model. There is a waiting list for season tickets and therefore are the Club worried if some supporters do not renew? - no they are not. Things will not change until there are more and more empty seats at home matches, thereby reducing match day income. As for tomorrow, should we lose Wenger already has his excuses lined up with a number of key players injured (apparently). Sadly that means that Gervinho and Ramsey will probably play which straight away gives West Brom an advantage. Expect some cheap, and possibly unknown new faces in January with the resigning of Henry designed to keep us all happy.

2nd biggest wage bill in the EPL?? Which club has got a lower wage bill than us. Man Utd, Citeh or Chelsea. Pool aren't far either...

Agree0 Disagree0

He's talking 2004 you muppet. Before Chelsea when crazy on wages. It probably was only utd with a bigger bill

1. Different formation (4-4-2 like the good old days).
2. Different Manager (who is willing to evolve and change within matches)
3. Buy better Players (Hummels, Fellaini, Huntelaar, Higuain, Zaha)
4. Pay competitive wages.
5. Sell the crap (Gerv, Ramsey, Bender, Squid, Djoupoo, Santos, Denilson)

Basically press the rest button and start a fresh.

Very well put Moe. No easy answer. Off to the pub now to put the world and our beloved Arsenal to rights. Tomorrow feels like the morning of a cup final (remember them). Nervous, excited and trying to be positive.

Come on you rip roaring Gunners.

Chess,
he would have to admit he was wrong and that is never going to happen.

A major change in thought is needed. The reason we are able to lure young talent is because we pay them high wages in comparison to other clubs. How that back fires is if the player proves to be a dud then we cant offload that very young and sub-par player who is on high wages. So we get a high overall wage bill but no real quality in the squad. Now if we have to pay mega-bucks to top talent then we have to stop paying relatively huge money to kids, which means the kids might not come to our club just on the financial carrot. But we can still tempt any player if we win trophies. We need a philosphy of taking that gamble. Spend a little, replace like for like and win something and things will all fall in place. All we had to do over the last 7 years is to buy 1 marquee player every 1-2 years and we would have won a lot. Now Wengy/board have dug themselves into a hole from which they would have to invest major to get out off. They are hedging all their bets on FFP to help them out after 2 more years, which pretty much means as it stands they dont intend to change their ways for atleast 2-4 more years.

Yes MB,
"...against the odds." I know I know Arsenal FC is by far the greatest team the world has ever seen, but obviously you don't know how probability(ODDS) work. As I said in the OP in the invincibles season Arsenal were odds on 92-1 for to place SECOND. Finishing first, let alone unbeaten is then OBVIOUSLY against the odds, and thus overachieving. Managers lie, agents lie, pundits lie, numbers don't lie. I'm not trying to be contentious here, but how can you argue with facts? You're arguing against something that is inarguable. All I asked for was for us to get our heads together and come up with a proper solution we could all agree upon, and you want to argue with me over whether your gut feeling is more accurate than hard fact. Your delusion is just the kind of problem I'm trying to solve. What can Arsenal do to either A)Make it statistically reasonable to believe that we can win things, or B)Give ourselves an edge to defy the odds again.
Kind Regards,
MoeTheGoon
