Nasri wishes to leave more than Fabregas. I quite sure since Barcelona doesn't have money for Fabregas he should be sold to anyone who pays more even it is EPL club.

Believable5 Unbelievable12

Erm...he has to agree to the transfer. Fail

Edd any chance of signing Micah richards. Sky sports reckon arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool are all interested.

{Ed022's Note - I think its possible but when we are competing with other teams I worry we can't compete. Especially if Chelsea get involved...}

Believable7 Unbelievable9

If it becomes a bidding war, we will be blown out of the water, but we have the advantage as Richards is an Arsenal fan.

So if we do get mata and benzemar bring in decent left back and vermalens mate from Ajax keep nasri I would be over the bloody moon and really up for a crack at premiership this season

{Ed022's Note - Baines, Vertonghen, Mata, Nasri (re-signing) and Benzema signed and I think ALL Arsenal fans would be over the moon...}

Believable12 Unbelievable6

Most of your choices are ok but would'nt we be better equipped if we had an english centre half so that we have more spirit.
KJ

{Ed022's Note - The guys passport doesn't matter. Its the player that matters. See Vieira for details...}

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be happy if Arsenal replaced Clichy with Cissokho, Bendtner with Gervinho, Fabregas with Mata, Nasri re-signing and signing Subotic and Sakho.

Agree0 Disagree0

Viera - was he centre half?

{Ed022's Note - My point was "Spirit". Everyone gets caught up in the fact that they "Must be English" In answer to your sarcastic question, of course he wasn't a defender. Another point I will make is that Vidic has aggresion and spirit in abundance but isn't English.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather Cahill or Samba becaus ether have Premiership experience

Arsenalkid10

Agree0 Disagree0

I get the feeling we won't end up signing any of those players :(. Btw, Vertonghen won't be moving anywhere I think...he recently said he has no reason to leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

Both recent premiership winners have had joint English and foreign CBs proving to be the best mix that's my point. I apologise for the sarcasm.

Arsenal have been given an ultimatum by Bolton: They must sign Gary Cahill within the next 10 days or Bolton will pull the plug on the deal.

Believable14 Unbelievable7

Doesn't Cahill have a release clause, which if met has to be accepted. so it doesn't really matter when a bid is made, Bolton can't just pull the plug on a deal...

brummy gooner here keep the faith wenger will be spending big this summer all clubs jokeying for position buying and selling would like to see obvious duds go such as almunia schillachi denilson rosicky vela can see fab going cash plus player maybe keita big strong holding midfielder suited to prem cus dont rate song at the highest level hope nas stays if he wants big money he will go make no mistake cahill a must dutch keepers good not too expensive if he dont go to roma like sakho too big strong guy good on ball and would like striker benzema or higuain

Wenger to hold talks with Nasri over a new contract.
Wenger also looking to sign Benzema for 25 million and Lavezzi for 27 million. Mata will NOT be coming to Arsenal. Gervinho to sign in the next week or so for a fee in between 10 and 15 million {Ed009's Note - so three forwards and no sign of arresting the problems in defence?}

I'm just going with what I've heard thats all

Believable3 Unbelievable15

ed whats the situation on scotty parker? I think he would be the perfect signing Liverpool won't buy him and Tottenham seeing as they are keeping Modric PLUS we have CL football we should be beating these clubs to signing player easily

{Ed022's Note - Apparently members of the coaching staff have been trying to persuade a less than interested Arsene Wenger into signing Parker. However, he is stubborn as hell and we will more likely sign Matuidi or someone...}

Believable11 Unbelievable2

Parker is not the answer, he is so over rated

{Ed022's Note - We need a player with guts. Someone who will roll up his sleeves and get stuck in. The sort of player who will tell players to their faces if they are putting in 100%. Nationality isn't the problem. Its the type of player. Whether that player is Parker is up for debate...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Am I the only one who doesn't want Parker to come to Arsenal? I have never really rated him, but at any rate it is objective that Song is better, not subjective. Song is a quality holding mid, he just gives away too many fouls. Parker is a donkey and I fail to see how he'd fit into the squad on the pitch. {Ed022's Note - Let's not forget that Song is now very doubtful to be participating in the African Cup of Nations due to Cameroon sitting third in their group needing a small miracle to happen for them to qualify...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Failed at Chelsea , shined at an awful Hammers side.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry if I'm slow on the uptake.... but are you suggesting that we have him available and so the need for signing a holding mid (which has never been a priority anyhow, people have just been shouting from the rafters that we should sign Parker quickly) is no more? I don't think we need a holding mid, I think Song's great. Too many fouls but he gets the ball and wants to go forward as soon as possible.

Arsenal will not sign EDEN Hazard, instead they will wait a season or two and sign his younger brother Thorgan who is a good bit better than Eden (if thats possible). Thorgan skills video

www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_TFlYDNSGw

Believable3 Unbelievable14

he is no where near as good as eden. Plus, he is only 18.

Agree0 Disagree0

I read a quote from the lille academy coach and he rates thorgan higher than eden when he was of that age.. doubt he would sign tho as he will want to follow his bros footsteps and establish himself in the lille first team before moving on

Stekelenberg
Cissokho TV Cahill Sagna
Wilcott Parker Nasri Hazard
Benzema RV
I think this would be the strongest Arsenal side 4 a very long time

{Ed022's Note - Stekelenburg £9m, Cissokho £10m, Cahill £15m+, Parker £4m, Hazard £25m, Benzema £25m plus Nasri signing a 100k a week contract which would take some money from the transfer budget. This would see Arsene Wenger breaking the club record for transfer fees three times and spending nearly £90m. Yep! Can see that happening...}

Believable6 Unbelievable15

Players out:
Fab = 40 mill Bendtner = 10 mill Denilson = 7 mill Squillaci = 1 mill Clichy = 7 mill
Total = 65 mill N who evr Arsen wants

{Ed022's Note - You think Wenger will break the transfer record three times and spend a net of £25m?? He's a profit man. Always has been! He will have a heart attack and kick a few more bottles into touch before that happens...}

Agree0 Disagree0

And where does wilshire play? come on lad think again

{Ed022's Note - Also, I didn't take into consideration our other new signing Robin Van and Theo Wilcott...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Jack is still a lill boy he still needs another couple of years You want your best team on the feild As a fan do want Arsenal to win anything this year or years to come? Money is the only way in football nw Its people like ARSEN who hold the club back

{Ed022's Note - Im sorry what?! Jack Wilshere a little boy? The same little boy who ran the show against Barcelona at the Emirates, the same little boy who now plays as a full England international off the back of 60 plus games in his first full season... Think you'll find he's ready...}

So, Blackburn have agreed a fee for C dric Mongongu of Monaco, almost a carbon copy of none other than Mr Chris Samba.

Fingers crossed this increases our chances of getting Samba, a player I like a lot.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

07 Jul 2011 21:21:56
Dont get stressed out everyone.....i think wenger would have informed our c.e.o who he wants two months ago, wenger knows both the french and german market very well....this time, unlike most i think wenger will buy a couple of premiership based players, cahill and or samba....need for a backup keeper and then a lot hinges on nasri leaving or staying....if money is his motivation hes off....however if wenger does inprove the squad with a mixture of experience, leadership and quality he might stay.Just remember it was our defence and lack of leadership that cost us the title last year, we through away leads away against, spuds twice, newcastle, sunderland, liverpool and conceaded too many goals from set pieces.......we havent had a decent captain since viera....henry and cesc are not captains.To appease R.V.P whos vice captain, will take the armband i think, but for me thomas varmaelen should be next seasons skipper....hes a natural leader.....never underestimate arsene......

Believable11 Unbelievable6

07 Jul 2011 21:22:24
i think that when gervinho has signed and it is annoucned it will be a breath of fresh air, he may not be the most exiting player around but atleast arsene can then focus on other and more important targets

{Ed022's Note - It's like waiting for our first trophy in six years. Once we get the first one in the rest will follow...Painful but true!}

ED, JUST A THOUGHT, IMAGINE IF FOR ONCE WE WENT OUT AND SAID F.UCK THE THE EXPESE AND PAID THE TRANSFER FEE FOR 6 WORLD CLASS PLAYERS, LEAVE THE POSTERS DECIDE WHO THEY WOULD WANT.
EXCEPT THE LIKES OF MESSI AND RONALDO JUST AVAILABLE ONES.

DUblin Gooner Strikes again, graham hunter confirming barcas offer of 35 million euros plus maxwell...lets hope nasri signs a new deal and then benzema....COME ON THE ARSENAL

Believable9 Unbelievable8

Hunter seems to be a mouth piece for Barca and Real

{Ed022's Note - He's a cock piece. Seriously, so far up his own arse...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Barca offering Maxwell (OR Abidal) was in the papers OVER a week ago.

This guy's got practically nothing right yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty sure he got Gervinho right and the timing of the signing. Pretty sure he got the Benzema bid right. Pretty sure the Cesc/maxwell thing wasnt in the paper before yesterday. And pretty sure hes right about Nasri signing a new contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but he didnt get gervinho right as he said he thursday gervinho would be signed now its friday still no sign of deal done

Again where has this Lavezzi rumour come from other than The Star?

Why dont we concentrate on defensive signings, even if Nasri does leave we still have RVP, Walcott, Arshavin, Vela plus now Gervinho, am less concerned with Benzema than i am with securing say Jagielka.

what an attacking line it could be with rvp hazzard lavezzi walcott nasri benzemi in our team with arsenal puttin in a 52 mill swoop for lavezzi and benzema
max

{Ed022's Note - I don't know why people are banging on about Lavezzi all of a sudden. Seems people will blow our budget on two strikers and have Squillaci playing with Kos at the back with Almunia in goal...Brilliant!}

Believable6 Unbelievable8

YOU TELL HIM ED

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Ed. I'd rather see Arsenal spend that money on Subotic or someone comparable. Defense was what killed Arsenal last season.

{Ed022's Note - Arsenal have not lost games through not scoring. Their attacking players rival most teams in the PL. The defence conceded stupid goals, late goals, set piece goals and could not hold onto a lead. Defence is an issue and needs to be addressed foremost.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh but i didnt say we wouldnt be buyin any centre backs i think we have to maybe matidui, samba, cahil, vertoghen, sakho atleast 2 ok happy i didnt say we werent gonna buy centre backs
max

Agree0 Disagree0

Why are people asking for a replacement for song i thought he was one of are best players last year also would love benzema but i think baines and samba is a must before we think about any marquee signing. i dont think we need world class names to win the league just a solid back 4 and replace fabregas with mata or someone

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2011 21:11:17
We need to keep Nasri especially if Fabregas is leaving. Why can't we give him the 10k extra, He's young and worth it. Gervinho doesn't excite me alot but I'll see if he proves me wrong. Cahill is a must. Samba only at the right price. No Gk needed. Maybe Cissokho for LB but I think Gibbs could make a step up and Vermaelen could be back-up LB when Gibbs is unavaible and we can play someone else centre back. Mata would be an excellent signing and would slot in well. Benzema would be nice but doubtful at the moment. I would say another centre midfielder is needed and then the squad would be complete.
In:
Cahill-15-20m
Gervinho-10-15m
Mata-23m
Benzema-15-20m

ITS AMAZING HOW UNITED CAN GT RID OF THERE DEAD WOOD AND BUY PLAYERS
SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT US

{Ed022's Note - I think even Fergie would struggle to sell Almunia, Squillaci, Denilson and Bendtner...}

Believable13 Unbelievable0

Our deaedwood doesnt win the league year in year out and reach champion league finals thats why we cant sell our deadwood. Plus Wes Brown is better than Djourou and Squilacci anyway

Paul

{Ed022's Note - True. I am quite suprised as O'Shea has been a good utility player for the Mancs.}

Agree0 Disagree0

SAF would never have signed useless fecks such as Almunia, Squillaci, Denilson and Bendtner.
Or Stepanovs, Amaury Bischoff, Tomas Danilevicius, Kaba Diawara, Oleg Luzhny, Jose Antonio Reyes, Jermaine Pennant, Richard Wright, Francis Jeffers, Philippe Senderos...the list goes on and on and on and...

Agree0 Disagree0

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Y does Arsenal take so long, Sunderland have had 2 players in for medicals and signed within 2 days we take weeks and weeks y. {Ed022's Note - Its excited times if you're a Sunderland fan. They have signed 7 players before July 8th. Imagine Arsenal doing that? Summer over and relax!}

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2011 20:40:43
Ed, do you think it's likely that Nasri could be part of a deal for Benzema?
I can't see wenger wanting to sell him to any PL club and if they cant agree a deal he'd rather sell to someone like Inter if they are interested.

Mike

{Ed022's Note - I would love a part ex deal involving Sneijder but that is fantasy land. No bids from any clubs have been made so we'l see. He may even sign a new contract...}

Believable8 Unbelievable3

I think that we will not sign samba because Blackburn have only just sold jones and they will not sell there two best players this is also why we probably won't sign hazard and gervinho. We will only get one of these two players (most likely Gervinho)
I don't think wenger will sign any big Players this summer but if you think about it it's not that bad because if you look at the invincebles none of those players were big players b4 they signed for arsenal.
I think we just need a bit more strength and depth in some key positions then we will do beter next season. Unfortunately I think fabregas will leave but on the upside nasri will sign a new contract

I really believe that Real will be massively influential in the Cesc saga. If they continue with there interest and up the fee, we should able to prise either more cash (unlikely) from Barca' (got to be £40 mil minimum), or cash and higher profile players (much more likely equalling the £40 mil). Nasri I hope is intelligent enough to stay for one more season, even without a renewed contract. Arshavin will be like a new signing 2011/12. If we stop giving the poor guy stick

Believable12 Unbelievable6

RM will have no bearing on the Barca/Cesc situation.
RM cannot force-up the price of Cesc. He would never sign for RM even for £100M and if he doesn't agree to a transfer he doesn't go.
Nasri is a smart guy - this is not about money - so I hope AW finally makes some sensible signings and Nasri stays. I hope you are right about Arshavin, the fans do need to give him a break but he could help the cause by training better and also watching what he eats. {Ed022's Note - Simples!!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Arshavin scored 2 less goals and had something like 8 more assists than gareth bale. Arshavin gets stick and Bale is now hot property? Arshavin is like a magician when he wants to be. Can be lazy at times and sometimes frustrating but i believe thats because he is not playing well TO HIS STANDARDS and we have all seen how good a player he really can be

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said mate ARshavin is quality - last season was an off season for the club in general, and he was given a slightly different role, plus with Fab absent for most of the time unlike the previous season. He is a machine and like Messi he stays on his feet, cannot wait to see Arshavin back in the Arsenal shirt and if we sell him I will be furious {Ed022's Note - I have said this too. We need his experience and he is a fantastic player (on his day!). He is the sort of impact player we need off the bench to change a game.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I am an arsenal fan from Russia And I am glad that some of us arsenal fans understand how special arshavin is. It is very stupid that people think he is lazy or demand him making sliding tackles. From his Russian interview I know that he is always giving it to arsenal. Wait for next season and if only we moved Mata or Gervinho to the left and let Arshavin play free-roaming second striker he will do miracles again

Agree0 Disagree0

Look at united they already spent 50mil on 3 usless players n they r in debt Y cant Arsenal do the same n look forward

{Ed022's Note - Useless players? Erm, Ashley Young would be a VERY GOOD player in an Arsenal team for starters. As for Jones, don't forget that ARSENAL also bid for him and in my opinion he will be a full England international within 3-4yrs. Possibly a future England captain. (He's already under 21 captain at 19yrs old.) As for De Gea, he has bags of potential and is a far better keeper than Almunia and Flappy. Dare I say better than Shezza on current ability. I am an Arsenal fan obviously but don't just slate players in jealousy because we haven't signed anyone.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha great feedback on my squad guys

I hear Micah Richards may be available from City. Isnt he a boyhood Arsenal fan? If so why didnt we try to part exchange him with Clichy as he aint a bad player and English

{Ed022's Note - I would like Richards at Arsenal. He is a self-confessed Arsenal fan and I think being able to play RB and CB (if required) would help us. I think his attitude is better than it was a couple of years ago and would see him as a good signing personally...}

Believable13 Unbelievable1

I just saw this and thought the same, why didn't we part exchange, he is in the same situation Clichy was, last year of contract.
He could be good enough to partner vermaelen and be great cover at right back rather than Eboue.
We aren't the only ones in for him though so it could push up the price.

{Ed022's Note - Who else is in for Richards? As far as I am aware, no-one has shown interest in him?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be interested to hear where you heard this?

Micah Richards is an awesome player, that would be amazing if he was at Arsenal I love watching City play and he is quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was on sky sports news so not sure how reliable it is but players in their last year of contract are always worth keeping an eye on

{Ed022's Note - Sign him up!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently liverpool, juventus are interested and i would be surprised if utd made a move considering they've let go of a few defenders, inc at least 2 right backs this season

Agree0 Disagree0

Wont happen, remember we are Man Citys feeder club not other way they wont sell to rival club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny thing is if Micah came to Emirates then it means Man City after us already selling them our left back, well, more fool Man City, Richards attacks more than Clichy, is ten times stronger than Clichy and afraid of nobody. If they play Clichy over Richards then in my humble opinion City are weakening their squad haha, here's to hoping...

{Ed022's Note - Clichy plays Left Back. Richards plays Right Back. The only player missing out will be Alexander Kolarov...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Chelsea have been tracking him for at least 3 seasons. If he becomes available expect him to go there as their new right back

Hey now fellow Gooners. Here's a thought I have not heard yet: maybe the transfer market is quiet because most teams are broke? Certainly no side would announce publicly that they were too broke to sign players as it would deter quality signings. seeing as how we are definitely not broke, perhaps this would bode well for us. Let me know what you think.

Ras Cal

{Ed022's Note - Man Utd are massively in debt and just spent £60m on three players before July 1st...Discuss...}

Believable4 Unbelievable6

Ho are uts getting away with spending all this money when they are in debt? They seem to get away with whatever they want,

Agree0 Disagree0

We aint broke mate, arsenal have reduced debt from 380m to 130m....plus they have sold some land near the stadium for 25m to bovis....a pot of between 30m to 40m before sales of clichy 7m, nasri 20m- 25m, cesc 37m-40m, bentner 10m, denilson 3m-5m.....i think ther will be a lot of action going on behind closed doors.....be calm thing will happen...with a bang, 4-5 signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

The main rivals if you like for signings are chelsea, utd, city and liverpool none of which have any problems spending the money

Agree0 Disagree0

Ps. united are not "getting away" with anything. they are gambling with their future. also, we are not broke, but most of the sides in europe are indeed.

Ras Cal

Agree0 Disagree0

You have a point ed. my guess is that united are taking a hthruge gamble. i work in finance and should the world economy sag again, which is imminent, the uniteds of the world will get crushed. Italy, portugal, spain, ireland are all in danger of national default. who will buy expensive tickets or kits then? Seriously folks, european soverign debt could cripple football. the fact is that united are now many millions more i debt. we could also borrow a hundred million and buy whoever we want but that would be idiotic. sir alex is playing a very dangerous game.

Ed I don't mean this horribly, just curious How do you know, how are u so sure we haven't yet bid for Mata? Thanks

Hopeful Gooner

{Ed022's Note - To my knowledge and from my links within the team I have heard that no bid has been made. Yet. There is interest but as for an official bid, the answer is no.}

Believable7 Unbelievable1

We might not have actually bid for him, but this doesn't mean that we haven't agreed to meet the buyout clause does it?

JH.

{Ed022's Note - So if we've "agreed to meet his buyout clause" then surely we'd place that bid? Like I said, no bid has made. They might be prepared to meet it but they haven't put a bid in. The original poster said Arsenal had met the buyout clause.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Well from my sources in the club, we've not met any valuation as this so-called 25m buy-out only applies to Spanish clubs BUT we HAVE met their valuation of Mata and Liverpool have shown interest but no bid.

ed 22 i was just wondering if you would tell me how many players you think we'll sign i dont meen chamberlain etc...but good players gervinho cahill? and i say you do a great job with your info : )

{Ed022's Note - I do what I can with the information I get from friends/sources in the know. I would say Arsenal will sign a PL centreback such as Cahill/Samba/Jagielka. I also have a sneaky feeling he will sign someone from Europe names mentioned Vertonghen, Sakho, Subotnic etc. He will not sign a DM. I think he may sign a goalkeeper but as for who I am unsure. The next few transfers are dependent on player sales. If Nasri and or Fabregas stays then it is very unlikely the likes of Mata or Hazard etc signing. If both go then look for Mata plus a relative unknown. Bendtner must be sold before another striker is signed. Gervinho should be signed, sealed and on the plane to Malaysia by Sunday.}

Could someone (ahem...Ed...) please clear up this drivel I'm hearing about Kevin ruddy Doyle? Surely we are not even considering him? He is truly shocking and in no way better than Bendtner, and at 10m my other question would be that IF we are considering that ludicrous sum, why oh jesus christ why did we not bye Demba Ba??

{Ed022's Note - Worryingly AW has made no secret in the past of his appreciation for the Rep Of Ireland's Bendtner. However, as for actually making a bid, I can say no bid has been made. I would be very suprised if we made a bid let alone signed him.}

Believable8 Unbelievable4

Thanks Ed - will you keep us posted on here somehow? I don't ever want to see Doyle in an Arsenal shirt, ever. OH yeah apologies for typo, I meant 'buy Demba Ba' of course.

{Ed022's Note - I have seen far worse spelling on here and far worse players mentioned to be signed. I will endeavour to keep everyone updated as much as possible.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Are u serious? I admit doyle is not the best but not in the same league as bentner

{Ed022's Note - Its unclear whether you think Bendtner is better or worse than Doyle...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Does Doyle count as home grown-I don't know where he got his early start? I think a lot of looking at players like Doyle and Barton is because Arsenal could run up against the 17 foreign player per prem squad limit if not careful.

ED, will AW go on tour with the team or stay and try to make some signings?

Also what's the likely squad for tour? 1st team or just the players who need the game time? Surely the E.cup would be better for the fine tune of the 1st team

I don't normally take much notice of the pre season.

Mong Out

{Ed022's Note - Wenger will definitely go on tour. Ivan Gazidis is the negotiator and will deal with transfers. AW will already have told him who to go for. The squad for Malaysia will be a mix of first teamers such as Ramsey, Vermaelen, Chamakh in addition to young players such as Frimpong. The squad will be announced Fri/Sat. Usually on Arsenal.com}

Ok the next person that suggests we should buy Leighton Baines for anywhere near 20M should be taken straight off for a frontal lobotomy. IN WHICH CRAZY A** WORLD is LB worth 20M. Seriously people

We need a new left back, we dont need to lose our minds. He isn't good enough or worth 20M. Would rather have Ryan Bertrand.

Where did this Ezequiel Lavezzi rumour come from aswell? Any player we dont sign before Sunday isnt coming for at least another 2 weeks either given the Asia tour either.

Paul

{Ed022's Note - Ivan Gazidis will be dealing with transfers and will not be going on tour with Arsenal meaning it won't necessarily be two weeks due to the tour. There are lots of people working behind the scenes and gone are the days where the manager does all the negotiating.}

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Fair enough £20M is a bit crazy but i gotta disagree with the 'not good enough'. Clichy 2 goals in 8 years and 3 assists in the last 3 years. Baines 7 goals just last season and 28 assists in the last 3 years Wot value would you put on the lad? Because in my opinion he would slot nicely into our side and be a constant threat on the left whereas Clichy had no idea wot to do in the final third.

{Ed022's Note - Agreed. I would like to see Baines in. Far better than Clichy...}

Ed, regarding medical test, is it really important to a player who want to sign for a new club?what happen if he failed his medical?coz i remember one french player who failed the test with liverpool then sign with newcastle.how dat happen?is he failed in liverpool but then pass the the in newcastle?

CuriousBenjamin

{Ed022's Note - Each club has different levels and expectations from a medical. For example Demba Ba failed a medical with Stoke in January and West Ham gave him a medical, took a punt knowing he had a dodgy knee and he scored half a dozen goals. He didn't keep them up but was a pretty decent signing. Some clubs depending on how keen they are for the player will decide given the results of the medical. Most "top clubs" will run a mile if a player has a bruised toenail that shows up on a medical as the last thing they want is a player in the treatment room for the season getting paid.}

i am wondering has any thing really changed with us in the transfer market were going to end up missing out again will the club ever learn.
WE NEED TO BUILD FROM THE BACK

{Ed022's Note - Given that we fly out to Malaysia on Sunday and the squad should be announced Friday/Saturday, I can't see ANY signings joining us on tour. Gervinho was mentioned and he would be the only signing if any. Very disappointing.}

Gervinho - 11m. = 53m

Sell fabregas for 35m and bendtner for 8-10m and denilson for 6m will be around a loss of 2m (perfect for wenger)

Sagna - Verminator - A new CB - BAINES

Wilshere - Nasri - Ramsey

HAZARD/MATA - BENZEMA - Van Persie

Impact subs: Walcott - GERVINHO - Arshavin

If Carlsberg made football teams...

Ins: BAINES £20M
HAZARD/MATA £20M
BENZEMA £25M
GERVINHO £10
NEW CB £15
TOTAL £90M

Outs: FABARCAGAS £40M
BENDER £10M
CLICKY AT CITY £7M
UNEMPLOYABLE DEN £5M
ALMUNIA (WE'LL PAY YOU) -£1
CANT FORGIVE EBOUE £6M
TOTAL £67, 999, 999M

Cahill or Samba??

My personal Choice would be Cahill, we need leaders at the back. TV and Cahill would show intent we are seroius to protect our leads.
Samba is a class CB, but we missed that Bus back in Jan and Blackburn are not gonna let him go after selling Jones.

Ed - assuming we sell Fabregas and bring in Gervinho and two other attacking players (Mata and Benzema or two other international players), how does that affect the home grown rule implemented last season?

Having already lost Clichy (HG) and losing Fab (HG) how can Arsenal afford to sign non-English players? And if they sign Maxwell and Samba, or Izaguirre and Vertonghen, or some other combination of non-English defenders, they certainly wouldn't be able to register all their new players, would they? Or was that rule only in place one year? Thanks.

Concerned Arsenal Fan

{Ed022's Note - The rule is farcical as it doesn't actually affect clubs at all really. The fact that Clichy and Fabregas are "home grown" sums it all up. Arsenal were not really affected by the rules as a lot of their squad (Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott etc were under 21.) Also, Arsenal only registered 23 out of 25 allowed which meant they didn't have to meet all criteria.}

ed022 do you think there is a possibility of getting them

{Ed022's Note - I think Benzema will be more likely later in the summer if Real Madrid sign Tevez/Neymar/Drogba/Adebayor etc... With regards to Mata, it is possible if AW gets a deal done for the right price. Hazard will probably stay in France for one more year. However, if he does this I feel we will miss out on him altogether as another club will put a big bid in next summer.}

Graham Hunter the spansih correspondent has said its between my team Liverpool and your great club and i mean that for Mata's signiture. Please pull out and go for Hazzard, i'm begging you ha ha. One thing if it turns out Spud's are interested and we get left behind please make sure you sign him. They already think after one season in the C.L that their part of Europeans elite. It was clear from were we was in Jan we wanted Europa league football, but please remember where we were in Jan. Spud's pretended all along they wasn't bothered when it had looked like we were gonna over take them for 5th but now they've European football their over the moon. Your a great club my second favourite to watch by far, Highbury, the marble entrance the statues and now a great stadium if not the best in the Prem. A real club with real history ledgened's and tradition. We have to stop between us Spud's from getting Mata at all costs. the fact gael clichy left has not surprised me one bit given the fact we already have kieran gibbs and armande traore (who spent last season at juve) who can both play LB. we also have vermaelen who can play there so i wouldnt be surprised if we see wenger sign 2 centre backs rather than a new left back.

just think, a back four like below would be fairly strong

Vermaelen Cahill/jagielka Samba Sagna

as for other signings; in wenger's eyes, if fabregas leaves we still have song, wilshere and ramsey (missed most of last season) who can all play in the middle of the park so dont be surprised if we see wenger splash out on an out n out striker such as benzema as has been suggested rather than creative midfielders.

Juan Matta has been mentioned however I could only see him being brought in as a replacement for Nasri if he was to leave.

other than that i reckon Bendtner, denilson, squilaci, almunia and possibly more to be shown the door

Believable10 Unbelievable5

All this talk of playing Vermaelen at left-back is, in my opinion, wrong. He was bought as a centre-back and played extremely well there in his first season at Arsenal and was unlucky to be injured all of last season. He would be wasted at left-back as his aerial prowess is well-known and he would be lacking in attacking threat there - which we need from that position since our 4-3-3 formation is very narrow so the only width is from the full-backs. Gibbs looks very promising to me and its exciting that he's English but in my opinion he's not fully ready yet and I think Traore will never be ready so I would be looking for Wenger to reinforce that position. A partnership of Vermaelen and Cahill looks very good to me and Koscielny would be a good back up as he is still very young and was kind of thrown in to the deep end last season. Apart from a few rash decisions which got him sent off and that mistake in the Carling Cup final I thought he was quite good. Djourou too is better than we give him credit for. Plus if what Frimpong is saying on Twitter about the new lad Jenkinson then we have another gem to look forward too.
Thanks
BCL

Agree0 Disagree0

Not so bad..

-Hakeem-

Agree0 Disagree0

Vermaelen and koscielny is about the same age.. how come u saying koscielny is still young?
about jenkinson..can arsenal convert his playing post to DM since he is 6ft tall.. it is good to have a taller DM to win the 2nd ball header.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bendtner and Squilaci are definitely STAYING
Almunia will be out and (hopefully) deNILson will be leaved, if of course we kind find a poor sap who'll take him

Clichy is a major loss. People berate him but they're clueless - stick Winterburn out on a pitch week-in-week-out for two years with no central defenders and he would've looked terrible too. Man City can see that, everybody who knows anything about football and supports Arsenal (hence watches the games) should know that.

Sagna - I would not be surprised if he leaves too. Same deal as Clichy. He's pulled his finger out a lot to save the face of our centres, he's got to be fairly demotivated. And at the end of the day he must want to be in the French team for the Euros and ultimately the World Cup, and Arsenal is not looking a good place for that right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. I think we may see TV5 pushed out to left back if we sign Samba and Cahill. Add to that Gervinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Nasri signing a new deal and playing centrally when Cesc goes, I would be quite happy.
I also agree with the outgoings to:Almunia, Squilliachi, Denilson and Bendtner.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like to see Bendtner given a run. I don't understand everybody seems not to rate him.

{Ed022's Note - Because he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat, let alone hit the back of the net...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed
Well, yes - that's what everybody says - but look at reality
He is a excellent passer of the ball. Fits perfectly well in the Arsenal style of play. And he can be quite clinical. Remember headers against Spurs a couple of years ago and away against Stoke. And how about goals against Man. City and Ipswich this season?
How can he show his worth with so little playing time?

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL Traore cant even get in Juve's side just because he went on loan dont make him a good player, Coqulin and Sunu went to Lorient but they are still average french players, Botelo and Wellington are also both in spain (back now tho) and they are either in division 2 or in a weak premier liga team THEY AINT GOOD ENOUGH if they were they would have a wp by now but they dont play enough on loan because they aint good enough hense no permit. Ryo on the otherhand plays lots and plays well hense a desicion on his wp this pre-season he may need one more season i Holland but he will prob get it this time.

ed what do you think the chances are of arsenal signing both samba and cahill with vermaelen moving to left back? {Ed004's Note - Very unlikely}

Believable4 Unbelievable10

I think the idea is not bad at all.. t.vermaelen always play as LB for belgium.. if we can get cahill and samba/vertoghen to play as CB it will get better.
bcoz we dont need to buy another overprice LB such as baines/enrique. we also got gibbs/traore for back up.can be useful for fa/carling cup matches.

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont get all this TV5 moving to left back Why play our best centre half out of position, of course as back up or for more defensive steel against stronger ariel teams then I can see this but he is hardly an up and down wing back that Wenger prefers.

Just hearing reports from a realiable source that Gervinho has spoke to Nasri, at the London Colney, pleading for him to stay. In addition, Nasri may reconsider leaving and stay with The Arsenal after hearing a bid for Benzema and Juan Matta have been recieved. Although, Cesc is staying at Arsenal during there time in Asia to help finalise a deal to Barca using the excuse of a bad hammy

Believable13 Unbelievable7

It's not an excuse... He's had a tight hamstring for a long, long time. He came back off of holiday early, BECAUSE of the Hamstring.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be nice if that were true, but to be honest I'd rather Nasri went now. Yes his skill might be missed but I'd rather we replaced him than have him present and dragging the others down, which happens far too easily for a bunch of 'professionals' at our club I must say. Nasri and Fab to go, spend the money wisely AW

Can anyone (Ed) clear up what position Gervinho plays?

I thought he is a striker, and as such will have to fight it out with Chamakh for a starting role

But others are saying he is a winger? Also is he left or right footed? I have never watched the lad play

Please dont just make up sht, I really want to know the truth.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Many thanks Ed.

Mong out {Ed004's Note - No bother, if it helps my mate who is an Arsenal supporter has been giving Gervinho rave reviews all day lol}

Agree0 Disagree0

He played as striker for lille at first then convert to back up striker due to mousa sow outstanding peformance as goalscorer for lille. but he also played as a wide player on the right for ivory coast.
so, i think i will depends on arsene wenger to decide what is the best we can get from him at arsenal fc.
if we buy other striker this summer i am sure that gerve will be a wide player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can anyone clear up if we are actually gonna sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

After watching you tube clips he seems to prefer his right foot but a few finishes with his left and also seems to be half decent in the air.
He has played as a striker for Lille but last season played mostly right wing.
If I remember didnt he play behind Drogba and at times wide left and right after sub/tactical changes for Ivory Coast in the world cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

From my homework he's a right footed player but he can score just as well with his left. He is a winger by rights but for the most part he ignores this, takes on about 6 players and inevitably gets a shot away. He is very tricky and defenders will hate him. His left and right foot qualities are indestinguishable from the highlights I've seen. I think he'll be left wing, Walcott's going down the middle and RVP will be right wing coming in on his left foot.

Agree0 Disagree0

He plays as a forward. He basically can play in all positions in the front three of the 4-3-3 system. His best attributes would be dribbling from the right side, providing assists and going into good goalscoring positions.

Gervinho will meet Arsenal team-mates, club photographer and do an interview today, it will be confirmed on friday on club website due, to a few bonus problems with contract

Believable14 Unbelievable1

07 Jul 2011 12:26:33
hmm...wouldnt a release cause of 9.25 mil of thiago mottas contract be a good buy for just under ten mil you get a expierenced top vlass player who would add steal andget stuck in ? Ed is there anytruth in the matter?

big gooner hakiim {Ed004's Note - Doubt it}

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Why not ? {Ed004's Note - Because didn't he recently sign a contract and I doubt Barca would sell their brightest prospect, who fills in for Xavi when he is not fit}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed he means Thiago Motta who plays for Inter Milan, not Thiago Alcantara who plays for Barcelona.

JH.

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont think arsene are interested in DM right now. should be transfer on CB/LB and FW.

Yeah better clear up which player you're asking about - Barca have just slapped a 92 million euro release clause in their Thiago after his wonder goal in the U21s apparently...

benzema is not coming to arsenal

Believable16 Unbelievable15

What wages would Benzema be on at Real? Surely over Arsenals wage structure... Any idea Ed or anyone?

Pardoe {Ed004's Note - none, sorry}

Agree0 Disagree0

On the contrary.. Benzema IS coming to Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

Benzema is on fact on 150,000 euros a week. We can compete with that. I say, 110,000 - reming him he will get more playing time and a goal bonus?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it is possible tho' arsene really interested in benzema since he was at lyon.
and arsene really suprise that lyon sold him to madrid bcoz arsene not knowing of lyon are trying to sell their main star at that time.
so it is not possible that arsene will try to get his favorite player right this time. benzema could be the new henry if arsene used his old magic stuff.huuhuu

Believable5 Unbelievable6

07 Jul 2011 12:14:31
edd i think arsenal should go for alex and essein from chelsea. both great players and will strenghen the squad as for people saying chelsea wont sell to there rivals, but arsenal sold clichy to city. i think he we bid around 20mil it could be enough. {Ed004's Note - I think you would need a lot more than that and if Essien was available I am sure there would be a lot of competition for his signature}

Believable5 Unbelievable9

Edd we should go for alex this guy is immense. i fail to understand why he never starts when hes fit. he could form a great partnership with tv5 {Ed004's Note - Would be a good signing for Arsenal}

I may be wrong here, lemme know what you all think. but Ive been thinking... Say we were to sell Cesc in this window for 40million, he no longer plays in the deep lying CM position he has done in the past.
Hes playing in the ACM position just behind the striker. Well in that case we already have a replacement for Cesc then, in our very own RVP?

Ive been reading articles about how the medical team have used different techniques to improve the strength in his muscles.
Cesc's assist rate is second to none, so IMO instead of looking to replace him directly. Why not supplement our team with the money with a quality striker, and improve our wingers. So that the goals and assist rate comes from more sources.
RVP is creative and in the hole will score and create goals as well.

The only way to soften the blow of losing such a dynamic player IMO is to play RVP there and bring in a quality winger and striker to distribute the burden that Cesc currently shoulders more or less alone.
Eman. {Ed004's Note - Or play Nasri in his best position, that is were he excelled last season}

Believable9 Unbelievable4

I dont think wenger is going to let the star players go and not buy replacements...he always manages to surpirse you...bad or good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree completely. Play Walcott up front with RVP playing the Cesc role.

Can't see Nasri replacing Cesc in terms of assists - didn't Arshavin produce more assists than Nasri?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yea Arshavin is a beast.. He's gonna have a much better season coming up.. innovative and amazing player

Gervinho will sign for Arsenal. That will be a good signing. But the Mata deal is true. We have had a bid accepted, although the player and his president were saying that he was staying, that's because arsenal want the deal behind close doors. Mata will sign for Arsenal.

I heard that two defenders are close to agreeing a move to arsenal. I don't know who but i think two of Enrique, Cahill, Jagielka and Samba.

Ed, what do you know about the defender situation?

Some dutch guy {Ed004's Note - I think a Left back and centre back will sign}

Believable17 Unbelievable3

Would love to see Benzema in a Arsenal shirt, which could help us keep Nasri and I think Mata would be a good signing too... But we so need at least two CB's, Cahill to partner TV and Shakko for the future, we need cover for Song not that useless fake brazilan Denilson and a LB.. when you list all these players we need we need a new side almost lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I really hope one of them defenders is Jagielka along side Kozza then Enrique or Maxwell at left back and TV as the defensive midfielder.Hope Gervinho is a excellent purchase then one marquee signing one of three Benzema, Mata or Hazard

Nas has arrived at Colney, and is at the moment in talks with Wenger and his reps. The talks are not about him handing in a transfer request, but to sign his new contract (4 years and £100k per week). He will sign this as we have had a bid for Benzema accepted by Mardrid (thought to be £22M) and also we have activated the buy out claus in Mata's contract (£25M). Both deals to be completed by the weekend and both players to fly out to the far east, with Nasri and Fabregas.............. Watch this space for me details when they come out.

Believable18 Unbelievable18

If this is true i will be a very happy gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope not benzema has failed to prove himself at real madrid and the prem is harder than la liga. also i hope fabregas will leave. whenever fab plays everyone plays through him and dont play their own game. when he leaves we will be able to play better as a team and not just through one man.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that you are right about Nasri. He will stay. But, although I think that its possible we have made a bid for Benzema I think it will probably be a bit higher, around 27million. From what I've read and heard today Tottenham are chasing Mata, but then again, these days almost every player in the world is linked with Harry I hope that your right about us activating his buy out clause but I'm not too optimistic as yet.
Thanks
BCL

Strange............I thought Fabregas was staying behing and not going to the far east because of his hamstring I hope what your saying is true but your info dont add up

I hope wenger really does have this all up his sleeve its a possability he does like to keep quite but after the last few transfer windows i am slightly worried

Agree0 Disagree0

From a non arsenal fan valencia have accepted a bid from arsenal and another english side everyone is saying liverpool but nothing confirmed on that nasri is 50/50 i think he's had his head turned as he can command wages far more than arsenal are offering just passing on what i have heard and read from numerous sites so don't shoot the messenger

hi ed, the amount of players i have seen linked with arsenal this pre season is ridiculous , which players do you think/know have an actual chance of joining AFC this season ? {Ed004's Note - Gervinho, Mata and that is all that I think will sign, there may be others}

Believable10 Unbelievable1

Surely there will be a lb to replace clichy and maybe another cb which is needed

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought a defender would be mentioned in that ? samba and cahill with verms put at left back would be brill

Agree0 Disagree0

We will definately sign at least one defender, I am hoping cahill rather than samba. vermaelan can cover at left back to support gibbs so I wouldn't be suprised if we didnt sign another left back although I think it would be a mistake to not sign one. gervinho will be coming in aswell as one of chamberlain, hazard, mata. personally i would rather have benzema in our team that not even if he didnt have the best season so am hoping that will be pushed through aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

Get ready Gooners.. Gervinho in, Mata maybe, Samba or Cahill in, and our new number 9 - Karim Benzema

Im starting to get a little bit tetchy now All this talk of "maybe" signing Benzema and Nasri and Cesc slapping there arse on the door on the way out. Im just not sure where we go for here. Worrying times Im off to Emirates cup at the end of the month, I just hope that we have some class players to watch Any hoo All this talk of strikers/Wingers and mid fielders being bought. Anyway have any news on our main issue which is defenders Central and now a left back? Im not sure i'd want TV at left back much more commanding in the centre. Samba? Cahill? Anyone?

Believable10 Unbelievable2

I too am off to the Emirates Cup at the end of the month, and i too hope that there will be a few names there that i recognise........ As for central defence, i have heard that Cahill wants to come (Euro Football), but Bolton are being stubborn over £1M... they want £14M, we have offered £13M... i mean come on, £13M is over priced if you ask me, but thats the way it is at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

I too expect Cahill to sign soon but also have a sneaky suspicion that Wenger may also sign a European centre-back. And to the original poster - I don't think we will sell both Fabregas and Nasri unless Wenger is sure to have some excellent replacements lined up and even then I'd class it as extremely unlikely.
Thanks

I can see the sense to wengers waiting game. We have only sold clichy and bought gervinho..

Man utd have spent 50 million on potential.
Liverpool have spent 20 million on potential and 9 million on a not soo great player.

City have been wise and spent only 14 million on clichy and savic...smart team this year?

Chelsea have not bought anyone either...

barcelona have to sell to buy(krkic, jeffren, maxwell) and madrid need to sell to buy although they have spent 55 mill on Coentrao, Sahin, varane and others.(diarra, Kaka, Benzema, Marcelo) and fuel their further buys of Aguero or tevez or neymar or pastore.

Inter cant buy without selling and alvarez is their major signing.

AC milan cant buy crazy money players either.

Wenger will wait patiently...Man utd need only a midfielder and i dont see them spending over 35 million.

Chelsea coach needs to evaluate his team before he goes mental on his buys.

I think liverpool are done although downing could be their last target.

Wenger is risking it but hes gotta let the big dogs eat first...and if they eat garbage hes stuck with the gems...if they eat the gems hes stuck with the garbage...risk of transfer window.

I think benzema, vertongen, should be our summer signings...we need to bring in mata regardless.

Believable15 Unbelievable3

Liverpool are not done

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe you missed the point of this post...at what point did he say that Liverpool are done.

He is saying that Wenger is waiting at the minute to assess what players are required due to certain/potential sales

Good post, much better than the drivel that makes it onto this site

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should remain positive..I think wenger will spend his budget...he will not be pushed over...hence the 20 mill rejection on samir nasri and waiting for 40 mill on cesc.

Right now if he sells cesc it will be accepted...but if he sells nasri...he will come of as a bad guy...but if he buys talent and nasri walks away...wenge

Robin Van Persie is expected to go to tottenham, as he is very frustrated with the club, lack of trophies and the main players leaving. However he doesn't want to leave London and would prefer to remain in his home in North London. Rafael Van Der Vaart is good friends with him as they are Holland international team-mates and he is persuading him. This would be a big kick in the teeth for Arsenal fans.

--------------------------------------

What do we reckon? BS or truthful? Ed thoughts?

Ben

Believable7 Unbelievable7

It's a known fact AW has been speaking w/ Benz's rep's on more than one occasion this window.

His agent says the plan is to keep him, at RM. But if a decent offer comes in and RM get the guys they're after... I think it's a good shout.

Agree0 Disagree0

The bid is inevitable. When Benzema signed for Real two years ago, Wenger expressed his surprise, saying his would have paid Lyon 40M for the striker (which I'm sure was an exaggeration knowing how he handles the purse strings). Now with Real interested in Neymar, Tevez and Cavani, Benzema's departure is a possibility.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a chance

Agree0 Disagree0

It is quite possible...Benzema would be a big name...possibly to show nasri ambition.

but he still needs to buy a defender.

If we do buy benzema...its clear that we will be going with a two man attack and gervinho and walcott to be wingers with nasri, and song ...i still think our best back four will be with vermalen, sagna, koscielny and the new left back...

Agree0 Disagree0

A 2man attack with Walcott and Gervinho on the wings, nasri and song in the middle? SOO where does this leave possibly one of our best players at this moment in time...Jack Wilshere? 442 will not be played at Arsenal

Either what Brady told me is true or else the Daily Mail use this site as a source for their stories

So I relayed what I was told which was;

Gervinho to sign
Maxwell to be included in the Cesc deal
A bid for Benzema
Nasri to sign new contract (hope hes right about this one)
And I also mentioned Baines.

Read the Daily Mail and theres your proof that im not lying about what brady told me. I have no reason to lie.

Only thing is, suggesting these deals and making them happen are completely different things.

Im still hopeful though as I was assured Wenger is being active, all be it discretely.
