This week looks set to be a busy one for Arsenal.

While Samir Nasri looks increasingly likely by the day to join big-spending Manchester City, Arsene Wenger will at least bring in the long-awaited central defender signing to the Emirates Stadium.

It is thought that the Gunners are close to agreeing a fee with Bolton Wanderers for Gary Cahill - thought to be around the £17m mark - based on the recent injury suffered by Thomas Vermaelen

Believable12 Unbelievable3

Apologies for going slightly off-topic, but does anyone know how bad Verm's injury is?

Agree0 Disagree0

He should be fit to play in the opening day of the season

Agree0 Disagree0

If Nasri goes to city, either Gazidis or Wenger should resign, you don't sell one of your best players to a rival club, shows don't care about the club , it is all about money

mertesacker medical thursday
hope Nasri will be out, 1 assist by season and non regular performance, hes over rated
hope fab will stay

Sissi

Believable9 Unbelievable8

You lot didnt watch often Mertesacker right? He is the most overrated CB in recent years. Only good enough coming in for Squillaci and JD. The chosen one is Gary Cahill. Awesome CB

fernando gago will join arsenal in a 4milion deal

Same as poster above.

Ryo Myachi has been granted the permission to play for Arsenal in the coming up season.

Nice

Believable23 Unbelievable6

He has been granted work permit so Wenger will c him as a new signing so no Mata will be brought in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha someone clicked unbelievable. Why would they do that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger said on the official site that this is like a new signing - surprise surprise

Agree0 Disagree0

"He has been granted work permit so Wenger will c him as a new signing so no Mata will be brought in."

Teh stupid is stunning.

Ryo, having been granted a special talent work permit, is NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR ANY POTENTIAL SIGNING. Neither is AOC a replacement for any potential signing.

If CB(s) are being brought in, the transfer of AOC and addition of Ryo is not affected by that. If Mata is being looked at as a replacement for either Cesc or Nasri, that deal will not be affected by the presence of Ryo or AOC.

Please, for the love of God, get this through your thick heads.

Agree0 Disagree0

How can he not see how infuriating these "like a new signing" statements are?

We will sign a new striker from the French league. Lyon's Lopez will come in for just under 20m

Believable8 Unbelievable21

Seeing as Lyon paid 24m Euros for him I am doubtful.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where did you hear this true or a rumour ?

Agree0 Disagree0

To the person who said it was doubtful due to the fact that Lyon paid €24m. He has gotten older so his value will depreciate + his form hasn't been great the past few seasons. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I honestly thought more 12-15m mark for him... i'm not up to date with the french league so i'm not spouting gospel. Just my thoughts guys.

StEvE

Agree0 Disagree0

I was thinking that but they only signed him 2 seasons ago... if they'd signed him in 07 or something then fine but they signed him in 09. He's since scored 44 goals in the 85 games he's played for them, his best career form to date so I can't see this happening.

ed what are the chances of Nasri leaving before the end of the transfer window? {Ed001's Note - actually I am getting the impression he will now stay as City have moved on to Sneijder and are making a very strong bid for him. I expect him to join them and Nasri to stay put.}

Believable14 Unbelievable16

Wouldn't that mean that United will be back in for Nasri?

Agree0 Disagree0

If sneijder joins city ,nasri will go to united

Things are going to go a bit crazy now...

apparently eto is wanted by Anzhi, who are willing to pay him 17 mill a year or 350K a week, Inter want 25 million pounds for eto.

Sneijder sale to Utd has appeared to be finalised. Wages to be agreed and he will sign for united.

Tevez to move to inter in a 40 million pound deal.

Adebayor wants to join madrid and not spurs and is pushing a deal.

Falcao to sign for Athletico madrid.

Arsenal Are trying to wrap up a major signing this week, i was told tommorow. who i dont know.

Most of my info is from blogs and friends ive made through arsenal games, especially when we travel to away games in europe.

This is a rumour and as anything could be nothing more. So take it with a pinch of salt.

Believable13 Unbelievable9

Sorry you were told tomorrow? is this the Dr ? ;)

It has to be benzaman

Samir Nasri has agreed personal terms with a £70 million move to Manchester City.
The move will cost £22 million and he will be on £185,000 a week.

Firstly I want to disagree with the negative comments regarding AOC. I personally would rather pay £12m now for him than being outbid at £30+m in 1-2 years a-la rooney, carroll etc. So all in all a good bit of business.
I think only 1 more signing will be made and it will be a defender (usual suspects) and if there is anymore action it will be for replacements.

Overall a satisfactory summer's transfers with Jenkinson, Gervinho, AOC + a n other.

Believable10 Unbelievable12

Nope not satisfactory at all, 2 wingers When we already have 643 of them... Another young defender, and possibly another CB?? Where's the striker to take the heat off Van P?

Agree0 Disagree0

If you think that is satisfactory then you are a mug

Agree0 Disagree0

So you you think we wont need other midfeilders when cesc and nasri leave for the next season. what a joker

Agree0 Disagree0

Striker wise there is rvp, walcott, chamakh and gervinho. I dont know if you've noticed but they have an interchangable system so there are your strikers. And to the guy who said about nasri and fabregas if you actually read the post I say the only others will be replacements so please think before you decide to reply.

Arsenal to sell Nasri to City £25mil
Fabregas to stay & remain captain.
Sneijder to be brought in, Nasri replacement. Region of £32mil.
Hazard possibility of coming in.
Cahill to sign for £16mil. By Saturday.

Believable10 Unbelievable21

It is not going to happen...dream on..

Agree0 Disagree0

Sneijder deal will never happen but Cahill could go though but id have Samba instead IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

Ever heard of a wage structure...

Sneijder wouldn't take a wage drop.

Kermit79

Agree0 Disagree0

Fabregas stays and he better not be Captain... He is not a Captain in my eyes..

Agree0 Disagree0

Like it to be true but its not

Agree0 Disagree0

Never gona happen. Cahill is the only possible player here that will be brought in. It will be mata if fabregas or nasri leave.
BD

Agree0 Disagree0

If Fabregas stays he should definitly not be captain. How can the captain of a team be a player who doesn't want to be there?

TV for captain with RVP vice captain.

Monkey

Agree0 Disagree0

Nasri to city or united, sneijder to city or united, fabregas to barca, hazard staying with a possible move in jan ,cahill to liverpool,

Agree0 Disagree0

Never in a million years would we pay Sneijders wages of 200k+ even if Nike made a contribution as rumoured they would if he joined man.u and as for cesc being arsenal captain, regretfully,he won't even be an arsenal player by the weekend.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, Sneijder is gonna take a wage-cut of 50% and then pay 50% tax on that?
I thought I saw the original posters name on a loaf of bread today - but on closer inspection it actually said 'Thick cut'.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like the way this guy just slipped the "Sneijder to Arsenal" bit quietly in the middle of this post...as if we wouldnt notice his crazytalk. Nice try. Wont even sign Hazard nor Mata IMO

After the injury to Vemaelen Wenger is looking at the possibility of bringing Matthew upson to strengthen the defence. This is likely to be on top of another CB such as Cahill

Two weeks ago posted these rumours:

Not going to sign Mata, 50/50 at best then worse now...
Not going to sign Hazard, this is just pap talk...
Nasri not leaving, Fab staying until Jan...

Also said before that, that we will sign young defender and a young striker separate to our first team needs...

And what the situation is now:

+ Mata deal looks dead
+ Hazard deal nowhere to be seen
+ Nasri still there, doesn't look to be going
+ Fab still there but looks to be leaving
+ Signed a young defender (Jenko)
+ Signed a young striker (AOC)

Now we need:

+ Proper Striker
+ Proper Defender

My money is on Benzema / Cahill when Fab finally goes

Based upon hunches just like the last one :) We shall see

Believable6 Unbelievable16

Sorry to be pedantic but Oxlade-Chamberlain is a winger not a striker.

do you think that wenger should have signed mata by putting just £5m extra in AOC Transfer fee. He would be much better than AOC

Believable12 Unbelievable7

AOC is a very good player, maybe over priced but as a Saints fan a big lost to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Signing AOC does NOT affect other transfer targets. Really wish the D&G brigade would get this through their heads. It doesn't affect potential CB signings and it doesn't affect a potential Mata signing. End of.

Agree0 Disagree0

They are completely different its not a case of either or, chamberlain is one for the future, mata would replace cesc or nasri

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Only Wengewr cannot see this, its a no brainer really.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the second poster- actually, it;s not about anyone getting anything 'through their heads' - it's about people being told there is X amount available for transfers, X has already been spent, and maybe the X left isn't anywhere near enough for us to have faith that someone of any quality will be brought in.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2011 10:19:12
Arsene Wenger said in the weekend, that there would be a quality signing this week,do you think that it was AOC,or could there be somebody else on the way?

Believable6 Unbelievable11

No disrespect to AOC but he is only 17 so it cant be him. He cannot be classed as a quality player yet
BD

Agree0 Disagree0

He said "Super Quality" so it better not be....

Agree0 Disagree0

I expect another and that being Cahill. No real source just my own thoughts and what is doing the rounds on Twitter through people who posted about AOC the night before it was on here. Not saying they're right or it will definitely happen but a possibility for sure.

TB

Agree0 Disagree0

Please people re read the interview. he didnt specifically say he was going to sign someone of super quality. he meant it in general that the level of player needs to be better than what we already have.

The Independent saying that only only the method of payment is stalling the Nasri transfer to Man City. They go on to say he has agreed an 85k a week deal, surely Arsenal could have beat that deal for one of their best players or is there other reason(s) that Nasri wants to leave.

Also hope everyone is safe from the riots.

Prelen

Believable3 Unbelievable13

I would be very surprised if its 85k pw, Arsenal offered 90k+ pw. I think Man c must be offering 110k pw at least

Mong Out

Agree0 Disagree0

Citeh have offered 185k/wk - not 85. Arsenal's offer has been 90k+/wk since last fall when they originally put a new deal in front of Nasri.

Agree0 Disagree0

Another paper talking about 160k per week, pathetic if we do sell him to city, shows board only care about money.

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard it was 185k

Agree0 Disagree0

What the Independent actually says is that the deal with City is agreed at 185k a week. Arsenal will not match that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its 185K a week...so twice as much as arsenal...

Arsenal did pay over 200k a week but that was to the legendary thierry henry...

the next highest is cesc on 110K

Agree0 Disagree0

I think there may be a typo or you may have misread it as it is 185k, which is why Arsenal nor anyone for that matter can compete with those wages

Agree0 Disagree0

Its 185k a week . its all about money

Agree0 Disagree0

Considering Fabregas and RVP aren't on anymore than maybe 110ish, there is no way in hell nasri deserves anymore than we offered. 5 months doesn't equate to 7/8 years of quality service

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for clarifying.

Prelen

Agree0 Disagree0

Nasri is on 90 a week at arsenal. city will pay 180.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the commet with regards to "pathetic if we sell him to city, shows board only care about money".... The play wants to leave, he has been offered a new improved contract, which it seems he has turned down. He can leave on a free next year, which if he did, you would be calling the board all the names under the sun for not selling him Maybe should have sort the contract issue last year but selling him and getting the money to buy replacements (and good ones..) is the only option. Just hope we do it in time before window closes

Agree0 Disagree0

If someone isn't prepared to play for arsenal for 90k a week, then I do not want them at the club.

Obviously in real life its silly money, but it is also a very competitive wage for a top footballer

Agree0 Disagree0

"shows board only care about money".

So whats the board supposed to do. they've offered him a contract and he does not want to stay. Good riddance I'd say.

Agree0 Disagree0

"If someone isn't prepared to play for arsenal for 90k a week, then I do not want them at the club.

hear hear - he can GTF.

the good thing about AOC is he is english and might have an ounce of loyalty and stay with us for a long time after he comes good, not like these foreign muppets who are constantly chasing their next contract

Agree0 Disagree0

None of you lot knows who has offered what to Nasri. You know even less what he plans to do. Perhaps you can save your stupid judgments until something actually happens?

Agree0 Disagree0

Henry was on 200k deal? I dont believe it. IMO it was around 120k.

Guys just because we've signed AOC, who has been brought for his potential fair enough, but it doesn't mean there will be no more signings- I'm sure and hope they have defenders, etc lined up- you can't always sign players in the order you want- frustrating I know because we all know what we would like to see, but if arsenal had aleady signed cahill and strengthened the squad, etc everyone would be saying cool aoc looks like a great prospect... I'm sure aoc is feeling just great and very welcome about having signed for us- NOT.

Believable7 Unbelievable3

Its not the fact of we will sign more, its the fact that yet again we dont seem to be addressing the issues at hand. We didnt lose the league last season cause we couldnt score goals..

can't find the post i made here yesterday... anyway, what would you guys think about signing emmanuel adebayor? yeah, i know he had some problems here before he left to city but the guy's cheap and a proven goal scorer (just look at his stats). would be a great back-up for van persie. i think his hard city years have made him a more humble person.

Believable7 Unbelievable20

Humble ask Mancini what he thinks. Adebayor is a greedy, lazy pain in the rump. Disruptive of team morale and can never be forgiven for the 'celebration'. I am the proud possessor of the photo which shows the travelling Gooners venting their collective spleen with my 2 sons prominently pictured giving him the big F.O.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is not welcome at AFC...

Agree0 Disagree0

U joking he is lazy why go backwards

Agree0 Disagree0

Im a yankee and even i know this move would be terrible. ade burned all his bridges and will never ever be welcome again. i'd much rather see the back line shored up before any more attacking names are mentioned anyhow.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you by any means his agent?

Agree0 Disagree0

He likes to play as a lone striker, never tracks back or breaks up play and gets far too mnay cards...

He would be a terrible signing Plus like somebody just said, *that* celebration and stamping on RVP ... f*** him

He was never good enough for Arsenal and never will be he cat rot away on a bench in Spain for all I care

Agree0 Disagree0

AW didn't resign far better players than Greedybayor is. I WANT HENRY BACK

DrchoGunner

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, and where's the bus?
"What bus?" I hear you ask; the one with all the people on board that give a flying f*ck about Adebayor.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you actually think RVP would want to be playin anywhere near the same team as adebayor who stamped on his head? I think not, plu Adebayor is over rated and not that great a goal scorer, needs too many chances to score. We have better back ups already.

Ed, if City and United continue to dither, and if Nasri and Fabregas do indeed leave, do you think it possible that Arsenal may move for Sneijder? Seems like the perfect replacement for Cesc, and if Arsenal overcome Udinese, they will be in the CL. {Ed002's Note - I very much doubt it. His wages alone will make AW's eyes water.}

Hi Ed, Is there any new signing coming? AOC is not going to solve the problem we have at the back line and MD if Cesc and Nasri decide to go? {Ed002's Note - Yes but there is no way I can name names with any accuracy. There are the three CB solutions that are well documented - I would assume one of those plus possibly a CM depending what happens elsewhere.}

any chance of cahill medical with endgland training at colney it would make sense. eds maybe youve heard something? {Ed002's Note - Not a chance that they would let him out of the England camp to have a medical for Arsenal.}

Hi Eds,

Just wondered if you'd be willing to briefly outline how/why Barca owe us money for Hleb and Henry? I have never been able to establish why, so if you get a chance I'd be grateful.

Also if they do still owe us money, how are they entitled to make signings? And why are we even considering negotiating with them for Fabregas?

If anyone can shed any light that would be appreciated.

Raz {Ed002's Note - I am not sure what the situation is but I do recall an issue over payment for Marc Overmars some years ago that led to an agreement being reached to adjust the fee paid for Hleb, although I don't remember the detail. If money is still owed then there will be some sort of agreement in place to resolve the issue. I am not so sure anything will be known about the detail though. If I hear anything I will post it.}
