Ed,

Against Burnley, our central defensive midfielders were woeful. Coquelin was embarrassingly bad. Is it a position the club is looking to improve on?

Thanks!

{Ed002's Note - Yes, Arsenal are looking at various positions.}

That was all the reassurance I needed Ed!

I agree mate. I think danilo of Porto would be a good option for us

{Ed002's Note - Danilo won't be moving - he signed a new contract at the start of the month.}

Do you have any names we are looking at for that position Ed? Cheers

I like the pairing of Elneny and Xhaka. Coquelin is a decent squad player, but not first eleven. I fail to understand why Wenger hasn't used Elneny more, as he makes great forward runs, opposed to Coquelin and Xhaka who both tend to play deep. I believe we have extended Cazorla's contract, so I can't see us signing any deep midfield players in the near future. Over the next couple of windows I would think that we will look towards signings in the following positions;
Goalkeeper; To replace Ospina if he wishes to move on to play regular first team football and as a long term replacement for Cech.
Left Back; Neither of current LB's are top quality players.
Sanchez: If he departs, a top quality signing.

The rest of the positions are well covered. If Ozil leaves, we could move Cazorla, Ramsey, Iwobi or Ox into his position. At RB, assuming Debuchy and Jenkinson go, we can use Gabriel bearing in mind we have 4 CB's as well as Gabriel.

And xhaka is an absolute liability! The player who most terrifies me when he's on the team sheet! He has a good range of passing, but has abysmal decision making, often loses his head and has a reputation that proceeds him. If he loses the rashness he maybe a good player, but it's going to be very hard to shake that reputation now, which will play a part in any decision a referee is unsure about and may already have a played a part this season as he had the reputation before arriving

I like the fire in him, typical arsenal cliche, but I think he has potential. He's still not fully used to the pace and movement of the prem leaving him half a yard off the pace of the game, resulting in a few rash challenges and the bookings/ sendings off. Once he's adapted I really think his aggression could be something we've been missing for so long.

For the sakes of discussion, I think both elneny and xhaka can be part of a top midfield at arsenal.

I think both have suffered from lack of decent squad around them. If Ramsey was offering better deep midfield competition, as opposed to his tendency to wonder, or say Santi was fit, I think it's just easier to taylor the pairing to whatever opposition based on each's best attributes.

I like xhaka's smash tackles, although I agree he needs to learn when and where to do them. If it helps stop players like kondogbia against monaco that time (maybe wrong? ) running right through our centre midfield I'm in approval. I do also agree that it's even better if we have 11 players on the pitch.

Elneny i see as a decent cheap squad player in the Edu mould, does a job.
Time and competition could hone both well I. M. O.
