Hello Eds,
Just after a bit of of information regarding the club and it's finances if possible. I know there's been this whole thing about Arsenal only being able to afford loan deals this month and so on, but it looks like Suarez is really keen to get this Arsenal move sorted. Have we really pushed our finances to the limit that much that the £17m asking price from Barcelona is just not achievable at all? Understand our revenue decrease is also a factor but it's frustrating that we can't take advantage of this opportunity. Why are Arsenal that concerned with having a obligation to buy? If they are sceltical about him being good enough then why even pursue a loan in the first place.
Many thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - The issue with DS is as I have said. The obligation/option issue. They don’t want to commit funds if it doesn’t work out. There is nothing sinister really here.}

I understand that but does that mean Arsenal are going to try and loan every player going forward to try them out ‘incase it doesn’t work out’. seems a bit silly if you ask me when you have a player who wants to play for you and fits the bill in midfield. They just need to make their decision and either take it or leave it.

Glenn, you are quite right, it's hogwash. It's nothing to do with concerns about 'working out' - they either do not have, or do not wish to spend, the asking fee. If we are at all worried about his ability to adapt to the EPL, we ought not be looking at him at all. I'm happy to give Emery and the management team time to develop the squad in the way they see fit, but that faith wears thin when our intelligence is insulted. To clarify, I presume that Ed002 was reflecting the club's view, not his own.

{Ed001's Note - I think Glenn is missing the point. Barca wanted an obligation to buy, Arsenal wanted an option. They didn't want to be forced to buy a player who was unhappy or not performing etc.}

But it was clear an 'option' was not feasible on the basis of Suarez' contract running down affecting his value. Your final sentence Ed, must surely apply to every transfer?

{Ed001's Note - depends on how sure you are that you want that player as opposed to seeing a good value deal that might be worth a punt. Suarez was seen as a punt.}

Sure, I take the point, but at this stage of the game, should we really be spending so much energy on a 'punt'. Anyway, fair enough. :) Best, U.

{Ed001's Note - to me I would agree with you, but this is Arsenal we are talking about and they do not work well in the transfer market or on the pitch a lot of the time. Organisation is sadly lacking at every level of the club.}
