Really not convinced by emery his tactics are crazy, hasn’t got a plan b (or A ) players don’t seem bothered to me, I know I said at the start I didn’t want him, now I want him gone before it’s too late, also I see a few others are starting to see he’s not good enough, should have forced kroenke out before Wenger.

You come across as a very fickle fan. First writing off Suarez before he's started, then calling for Emery's head after a narrow first leg loss away at a tough ground that we can very easily turn around in London.

The man is trying to smoothly transition from a manager who was in his post for 2 decades and shaped the club in his own image, not to mention the problems Wenger and Gazidis left behind with Ozil, Mustafi, etc. This is not just a one-season job, maybe not even 2 seasons.

Not only this but the internal politics and strife affecting the club are clearly ongoing and the business with Mislintat shows that power struggles at a board level are destabilising. If you can't learn patience you might be better off supporting Chelsea or City. Sorry to sound harsh but it's true.

I understand what your saying wire, but come on, he has not improved this team, I feel like we are making too many excuses for him. He is very similar to Wenger whilst we needed someone different to Wenger. If you take our 22 game unbeaten streak out the equation then it has been a very poor season. Knocked out of carabao cup (Wenger got to final) , fifth place in league, losing in first leg of Europa league, away form has not improved, defence has not improved, arsenal have not improved. I will be surprised if any Ed disagrees with what I’ve said.

"Take our 22 game unbeaten streak out the equation". let's take City's 21 wins this season out the equation and call for Guardiola's head too while we're at it. Seriously. what were you expecting from the man's first season with us plus a complete club restructure plus the squad he inherited?! Would this same attitude happen in any other work place?

{Ed001's Note - what complete club restructure? The restructuring was done last season to allow for an easier transition. More excuses! How many can you Gunners come up with for supporting a failure? It is embarrassing how you lot have treated Wenger so appallingly and now refuse to accept anyone else is actually worse because it would mean you were wrong about the abuse you gave someone who deserved so much better.

That 22 game unbeaten streak should be treated as what it was - riding your luck, as you were bloody awful in most of those games and a defeat was always coming. It was also clear that you would fall apart once it happened as you didn't have a manager with a clue in place to fix it.}

Look at how Moyes did as first up replacement for a club legend in Fergie. That was as tough a job as Emery has in front of him. Look at how Klopp did in his first two seasons, or Pep in his first. Hell, look at Sarri. Emery has a bigger cleanup job than any of them, with the defence and backroom issues that he inherited.

Who can we realistically get instead? What proof is there that they'll do better? Emery has shown he has the ability to win in the Europa League and deserves 2 seasons at least to transition this team into his own.

{Ed001's Note - Klopp and Pep clearly made huge improvements in their first, Moyes got sacked because he clearly didn't. Emery is not making improvements, even though he has the player in Torreira you all said the team was missing!}

Our defence has been and remains unfit for purpose simply because it's so poorly organised and there is no sign of Dick being anymore concerned by it or capable of changing it than his predecessor was, that is a huge cuase for concern.
In what other work place would a new boss be brought in to change things but totally ignore the most obvious thing that was holding the business back?
He's either as unaware or as incapable as Arsene and in whichever case it's not acceptable to just repeat the same mistakes that Arsene made and no one speak about it because he's new.
So far it's looking more and more obvious we've changed the name and face but not the methods.

I disagree ed001. Pep's first season saw them finish 3rd winning nothing instead of 4th winning the league cup. Not much to split the two despite a huge budget to adapt the team to his image. Klopp's first season saw Liverpool finishing 8th compared to Rodgers' 6th place finish the season before, albeit with his joining the club in October instead of during the summer.

For the record, I did not want Wenger out, but I was aware that he needed to be replaced eventually. From what I can see, Emery has his faults but we finished 6th last season and all he needs to do is show that he is capable of putting together a plan and not finish any lower than 6th by end of this season. Win the EL or finish 4th and I'll consider this season an unqualified success.

{Ed001's Note - you can disagree all you want but on the pitch both teams were clearly improved and playing a much more entertaining brand of football. You are disagreeing but you never had to sit through Bodgers final season when Liverpool were spiralling into the relegation battle until Klopp came in. So any attempt to say he did not improve things based on a ridiculous assumption that league place is the sole indicator necessary to decide that is just showing that I am wasting my time even discussing this with you. Perhaps you should try not arguing a point you clearly have little knowledge of and your opinion is solely reliant on looking at league placings, with someone who actually remembers experiencing them. You have no idea what Liverpool were like, so why argue the point with someone who does?}

So then would you agree that Arsenal last season under Wenger had many of the issues that Rodgers had in his "relegation battle"? Arsenal's second half of the season form put them something like 18th.

{Ed001's Note - no, nothing like. This was a team that knew the manager was leaving, so they had nothing to play for. Liverpool, on the other hand, were just terrible. You cannot compare the two situations. The better comparison would be how Man Utd, after Fergie's first retirement announcement, just lost all impetus as they knew he was leaving. Liverpool and Man City were in totally incomparable situations to Arsenal, to continue to try and make comparisons makes no sense whatsoever.

The key to judging a manager is how his team responds to adversity, anyone can manage when things are going well, but when things go wrong how does he cope? As soon as things went bad at Arsenal, they have just fallen apart, that is not the sign of a manager in control of the situation. That is the sign of a manager who has ridden his luck and now has no idea what to do. The least you would expect is some kind of organisation and discipline from the team. The summer signings have improved the balance in the team and brought in some midfield doggedness that was missing. However the team looks even more defensively open than it was without that midfield protection. That has to be a worry, surely? I mean the first step when things are going wrong is to just improve organisation defensively, get the team doing the basics right. What sign has there been that Emery has done any of that?

It is not like Arsenal have not been warned that this is a problem for Emery. The same thing has occurred everywhere he has gone, that he has struggled to create organised defensive solidity and also that he is unable to cope with star players and would fall out with them and exclude them if possible. I know you are thinking he needs time, but you have his time in previous jobs to look at and it does not bode well.}

Fair points ed. The defensive issues have been bugging me for a while but we have been conceding silly goals for years and I'm used to it. Our defenders are without a doubt the worst out of the top 6, maybe of the top 8-10, and with players like Mustafi I don't know how much you can actually coach.

Personally I don't think we could have done much better than Emery and with his EL pedigree I think he deserves at least 2 seasons to show us what he can do. Sacking him now solves nothing for me.

{Ed001's Note - I would not disagree that the defenders are not the best, but were Leicester's Wes Morgan and Robert Huth the best? You can have a good defence without the best defenders. And yes I know they had Kante protecting them, but you have Torreira to protect them and a (on paper) better attack and midfield other than that to take the game to the opposition and protect the defence.

Too much blame is put on the quality of individual players when you only have to look at what Hodgson has done with Palace to see there is more to it than the players.}

9.) 15 Feb 2019
15 Feb 2019 12:29:46
Totally totally agree Ed001 our defenders are better individual players than people give them credit for, it's only as a team they are all awful. Morgan and Hugh were brilliant for Leicester without being brilliant players, Roy the boy took over Palace with 0 points and 0 goals in their opening 7 premier league games but with no transfer market to bail him out he used Tactics motivation and organisation to somehow get them to mid table safety long before game 38 arrived. Replacing Fergie was and still is the most difficult challenge in football and we've seen a few who couldn't do it but replacing and improve on a manager who had been underachieving for a long time shouldn't be the most difficult thing to do if you have yourself have the capability and wisdom to correct his most obvious weaknesses and downfalls.
I would say getting Arsenal to be better at the back was probably one of the least difficult jobs to take that were available last summer, making is champions or even challengers is a whole different proposition but improving us defensively? I'd have thought that was easy bit for any half decent half clued up football manager to do extremely quickl.

As i had said, i'd be very surprised if his 2 year contract will be extended. he is just a transition manager and not a long term manager. his job is to get us back to the ucl in 2 years and then he's gone after that but be careful what you wish for coz Arteta may come in and just mess it up all over again.

Utterly ridiculous comments. first, the team and particularly the defence has been blighted with injuries. The players that unai/ his team have bought in have been an instant success. how often do we hear of big big players needing a season or so to settle in and get used to the premier league. We've given them and the new manager just over half a season, before getting the pitchforks out! A 22 unbeaten run may have had lucky moments but there's a saying about making your own luck. The false hysteria is in all honesty laughable.

{Ed001's Note - what hysteria? Unless you mean from those covering their eyes and saying 'all is well Wenger is gone'?}

13.) 16 Feb 2019
16 Feb 2019 10:52:36
Re-read your comments on this thread Ed. That hysteria!

{Ed001's Note - what hysteria? Are you 12? I couldn't care less, just find people like you, always ready with nonsense excuses, embarrassing enough to point out how embarrassing you are. Waste of time discussing things with people like you. All you do is deflect with talk of hysteria because not one of the points against your excuses can you counter. So stick to deflecting but you are only making yourself look silly.}

Dick himself said of the 22 game run " we could have been beaten at any stage " and that's true simply because if you allow your opponents so many chances to score in every single game it's inevitable that sooner or later people will take those chances
Shoot swapping is yet to prove a viable way to win a title in over 100 years of professional football in this country, Arsene couldn't change that fact and I very much doubt Dick will be the first to be successful without a defence that can restrict opponents to a handful rather than a hat full of chances each and every game.

I think you’d be mad to get rid of emery now. The problems Arsenal have now are the same ones they’ve had for years, yet you’re still in the mix for top 4 and could win the Europa. Give him time freedom and funds to get the side how he wants it before dismissing him. He had Sevilla achieve well above their level, and his squad there looked like they’d run through walls for him. You shouldn’t make the same mistakes as others and start burning through new managers every other season because they don’t win you the league immediately.

Look at the mistakes united have made with managers after the end of a dynasty. That should serve as a warning. And you’ve started off with a far better manager that ******* Moyes!
