The signing of Van Dijk is concerning for Arsenal, as the fight for a top four place intensifies. Whilst City and United appear to have two of the four spots, the remaining two places will be hard fought over. We are in a period of damage limitation as Ozil and Sanchez are sure to depart, whilst Wilshere can still elect to go elsewhere. Ramsey and Welbeck have set aside possible negotiations to extend their deals which are entering a critical phase. We desperately need to sign at least 4 top players in this window and at least 2 or. More in the summer. Will it happen? Not a chance under Wenger. I see two signings at best, probably young players with potential. In this window I would like to see us sign a CB, a DM (Nzonzi) , a wide left player (Saha) and a creative midfield player (Fekir) .

Is Nzonzi really an improvement on our midfield? i know our midfield is bad but really, Nzonzi? We need help, not more players who are average to be at the club. He doesn't add goals and isn't that great as a DM in my opinion. agree we need wide left to replace Sanchez, Also need a wide right as we don't have one. Someone who scares opposition teams and scores goals, can get past players and has an end product. We're also going to need to replace Cech end of year and get a new CB. we have a lot of money needs to be spent but we're a club that wont. So we have the same conversation year after year. 2 players behind in a normal season and then opposition get stronger and we do the minimum to follow. We've been found out.

No he’s not, he isn’t good enough.

Butland should be a priority for Cech's replacement IMO. He really is looking a good keeper already and will continue to improve. I don't get all the negativity about Nzonzi. Perhaps this is coming from people who remember him from the premiership rather than those who watch him play in Spain, where he has been excellent for Seville for the past few seasons.

He wouldn't be my first choice (a revitalised Geoffrey Kondogbia would be) based mostly on his age and the touted price, but as a dedicated DM who also slips into CD when needed, he is a major improvement on what we have, which to be honest isn't difficult.

Why are seville getting rid? I've read they don't rate him or his attitude. I know he hasn't played since being hauled off at half time against liverpool.

I believe he fell out with the manager Steve, although he (the manager) just got Spanish archer-ed before Christmas so he might not be leaving Seville now anyway. However, they certainly rated him when they won 3 UEFA cups back-to back with him sitting as DM in front of the back 3.

EG he should be going nowhere then. For me maitland niles should be tried at holding mid not at left back. We have a young midfielder playing every position but his best, a top left back on the bench and xhaka not hacking the prem. We are short in defence so that's the area we should be strengthening first, rather than nzonzi. Niles should have been tried in xhakas place first not kols. All very strange anyway, there is obviously a problem or two behind the scenes.

I really can't get my head around this obsession with Nzonzi. I, personally, don't think he'd start in any of the top 6 teams in the Prem, why has he been deamed good enough for us?

And re a Sanchez replacement, Carrasco from Atlético is apparently available now. I think he would be the perfect player to replace Sanchez. Again, only my opinion.

NE the perfect replacement would be Draxler.

True, Steve. It would have been great if PSG didn't have one of the most talented attacking line ups in the world, Sanchez could have been involved in a deal for him. He's wasted at psg. The surplus of world class attackers could mean a cut price deal though.

The swap isn't on but sanchez to citeh ( who ain't no rivals to us ) and drax in may be a good deal. We have ruined sanchez an we will never rival citeh especially while we have wenger. It could be now a no brainer.

N’zonzi Would be of more use than xhaka. United won’t finish second though, if they dorp out of the top 4 that wouldn’t surprise me but barbtoo spot they’re all up for grabs, January is important now as Liverpool lay a gauntlet with regards to improving our weakness (money can be discussed all day so I won’t get into that) but Liverpool have shown their hand will anybody else make a move to try cement a top 4 spot? This January will be an interesting one.

Steve i agree with you re Maitland-Niles. He should be given a run at DM, and should at least be ahead of Elneny and Coq for back up in that position. The same goes for Holding, Nelson, Beiliek etc. We all get obsessed with who we want to sign but i don't want new signings to be at the cost of our own youngsters. We will never know if they are good enough unless they get to play regularly in the first team.
