Elneny was already under contract until 2020 so there was no panic to give him a new one for fear of him leaving for free any time soon.
So is Arsenes giving him a new contract until 2022 now a sign of Arsenes own commitment to being around a bit longer yet himself? Seems strange for Arsene to and the club to allow him to be awarding extended deals out that if he's not going to be the one working with the players in future.
Maybe I'm putting 2 and 2 together and falsely coming up with PLEASE NO MORE Arsene but it's a worry :- (.

We are already down to the bare bones of a squad, with the following:
Out of contract in summer: Cazorla, Wilshere and Mertescaker
1 year to go: Welbeck, Ramsey, Cech, Ospina and Monreal

Therefore we need to ensure that the remaining players are on reasonably long deals. Elneny is a decent squad player, don't forget it is extremely difficult to keep the entire 25 man overage squad, plus youngsters happy, unless they are playing regularly or have huge wages, which can prove problematic in terms of FFP.

I don't get the fuss. He's a good back up player. We can't have a whole squad of world class first teamers it'll never work. Not a fan of elneny but think he is useful to keep around.

It's more important to tie players down to contracts than a manager.

Gives the new manager something to work with.

It just promotes again that comfortable feeling. he's a player who hasn't had to earn a new contract, its just been handed to him. For?

Let’s let all contracts run down - weren’t some moaning about Kos’s Pay less than 18 months ago. Would you pay him the wages you wanted now?

We should call it Arsenal moan page rather than banter

Question - how many clubs have won 3 trophies in the last 5 seasons in the premiership and how many have Spurs / Liverpool won? Are we spoilt.

You think we should extend Arsenes contract too then SY?
Lads I have no problem with Elneny getting a contract my concern was Arsene planning for the future and whether it implys he's planning on staying on beyond this season.
I have no strong feelings on Elneny one way or the other, he's not good enough but he's far from alone there but at least he trys.

62 mate I don’t think it was arsene’s who offered him the new contract. We have a new contract negotiater not Wenger anymore I guess.
Also ElNenny not the greatest but he is been doing the job required when brought in. He is a good squad player and you always need those type of players in the team.
