Under Wenger we were dropping down the league and failed to win a trophy last season. It was clearly time for change. I would prefer an experienced manager who has managed at the top level and won trophies, such as Allegri, Simeone or Benitez.
My concern in regard to Arteta is that he is not the fans choice and having witnessed the open anti-Wenger campaign, including the ludicrous fans that failed to turn up to watch matches despite having purchased tickets, I fear for Arteta as the fans may turn against him extremely quickly if things don't go well. Then again who would have wanted George Graham from Millwall or Arsene Wenger from Grampus 8?
If it is Areta let's get behind him. Interesting summer ahead for us Gooners.

Agreed 61 - we need to back him if selected but doesn’t stop the concerns. Him and Santi don’t inspire me as a pair and I am concerned what the big players we want to / need to sign as well as the likes of PEA think of such a unambitious signing. This combined with our budget and poor defence is a huge concern. Wenger came in with the same attacking philosophy but probably more of a “let the players manage themselves” approach which worked as we had a solid back 5. Today we don’t and Arsene’s first season if he inherited this defence back then could be different THEN the Arsene who shouts would have been louder. It didn’t and he had immediate success and deemed a legend - the rest is history but the earlier years plus spending capabilities back then are very different to today so I fear for Arteta especially as he seems like a genuine guy and concerned for the club. Options are limited due to squad, budget and management structure plus replacing Arsene - the board needed to make a statement about budgets and ambition to lay the trap and expectations. They failed again and said they would make a BRAVE appointment. Oh that’s ok then.

{Ed001's Note - don't worry you always have Mertesacker to help them.}

It's still only the usual unreliable suspects saying Artetta is about to happen, nothing from the Eds nothing from Ornstein nothing on the bbc main page.
Time will tell but I still think this Artetta story is a molehill being made into mount everest.

G62 - Arteta isn't my choice, but I have a sneaky suspicion he is on his way back to us: Reports that he is Gazidis's choice. New deals for Elneny and Holding. Backroom staff moved out, whilst Bould asked to stay on. Reports of offers for players. These seem odd if a new manager hasn't been agreed.

that might be because the structural and personnel changes have left our once reliable sources, sourceless themselves. lol.
I believe they might have information but since its not coming from people they use to work before they are sceptical and are afraid of sticking their neck out.
Nevertheless we will know our new manager before Monday.

And you think Arteta will do better he’s just a yes man, someone who won’t award back, i for one will be fuming if we get Arteta, plane and banners at the ready.

How do we know Artetta is a yes man?
We know nothing about Artetta the manager and niether does anyone else.
Calling him a yes man at this stage is like saying Addles next album isn't as good as the last one before she's even written or recoded it.
I don't want Artetta but I can't say he's good bad or indifferent as a manager yet.
