Weathers not very nice so i had to stoop low and watch the fulham game. Got to say chambers playing holding mid looks sound. Energetic, controlled, good on the ball and nothing really got past him. Whether he is good enough for us is another question but if we keep him, he would make at least a sound squad player. If we sold him, we shouldn't let him go cheap either. With bielik doing well at Charlton and chambers looking good, it at least gives us some options.

Might be worth considering him as the middle CB of 3 at the back if he looks good on the ball energetic controlled, as the middle CB he could be part of the defence when we defend but move into the DM position when we attack freeing up the midfield to go forward.

Agree gunner, he may well be able to play CB in a 2 or a 3. He looked unflustered and comfortable shielding the defence.

My favourite formation is 3 4 1 2 and if you have the right man for the job I like the middle CB to be a sweeper in the Franz Beckenbauer mould (obviously not of his quality necessarily) who come into the midfield as well as defend.
David Luis has this in his locker where he's a decent CB and Mf I feel he would stand out if given this role consistently.
I'm not sure if Calum is capable but if he is it would be brilliant because you get the benefits of both in having a 3rd CB and a DM in one player.

My favourite to - 3 4. 1 2

Mavropanos Papa Holding

Bellerin. CDM Torriera Kola

Ozil

Laca and PEA

Not sure why we haven’t tried this - CDM is Xhaka for now but Dacoure would work just fine.

If Chambers can play that role SY then you could have Torreira and Guendouzi in the Middle witness Torreira and Chambers sharing the DM role depending on whether we were attacking or defending.
If we were in or around the opposition box then Chambers could be our first line defence sat between the halfway line and opposition box.

Chambers is part of a team getting relegated for the second time. He is average in the extreme and there is no way he should return to the club.

Robbie you can’t blame one player for a team failing. Last year he was injured most of the season when he was available they did a lot better defensively, and now fulham ain’t scoring enough but he’s one of thier best players.
I think Chambers next to Torreria would make us more solid at the back, for sure I rate him higher than Xhaka.
However, this might be the disparation talking to get an upgrade on Xhaka lol.

Robbie, chambers can't be individually held responsible for fulhams demise. You have to look at his progress as an individual. Wether we sell him or keep him, his stock has gone up, he's getting better and better. Time will tell what will happen to him but he is a totally different animal to the one we had. We may sell or we may keep, either way we have an improved asset.

I don't thinks it's actually Chambers RG is upset with here :-)

Agree Steve. Thought Chambers has shown on a few occasions that he can contribute. If he were still at the club he'd have gotten some games at CB too with Holding out. Good cover for Torreira with Elneny out the door.

I just don't rate Chambers and fail to understand what anyone sees in him. Clearly Emery, like myself, preferred Holding, hence he allowed Chambers to be loaned out. I cannot see him returning and believe he will be sold this summer, assuming a club wishes to buy him. As a rule of thumb, when signing a player, you have to ask whether any of the serious top four contenders would sign a particular player, and in Chambers case none of them would want him, which speaks for itself. There were comments to the effect that it isn't his fault that the two clubs he has been loaned out to look likely to be relegated, in Middesborough's case they were actually relegated. Hence, he ends up at clubs that suffer relegation down to the Championship, to which he would be better suited.

Yes ok robbie, i don't get your logic but like i say, i'm sure he will be judged on his performance by our scouts and not fulhams performance. Whatever, he is a better asset to this club now, than he was before he went to Fulham.

04 Mar 2019 16:07:32
I was going to write this in my previous post robbie but i thought that i had better check my memory. Roy Keane was relegated with forest before he went to united. Obviously SAF didn't look at the team around him, just the player. i'm sure we will do the same. He may be sold but we should get a decent fee for him now, more than last summer at least.

14.) 04 Mar 2019
04 Mar 2019 16:09:54
Wire, he is getting regular games and that has to be better for him, going forward. He isn't letting anyone down, that's for sure.

In that case we were extremely lucky to beat Liverpool City Spurs and United to signing Lich last summer RG :-) how did we manage to convince Liverpool and Chelsea too spend all that money on goalkeepers when they all wanted Leno instead :-)
Sorry mate but that's nonsense, if we only signed players who would get into the top 4 clubs side wed be playing with 5 players most weeks if we were lucky.
Of last summers signings Torreira is the only player who would get close to getting a game at Liverpool Spurs United or City so its ridiculous to gage Chambers against top Club players but not gage other players the same way because it suits your personal feelings about Chambers or maybe it's not Chambers your really angry with at all deep down :-)

Steve, we just have to beg to differ, which doesn't alter the fact that I remain unimpressed by Chambers and would prefer that we sell him and purchase a better player. Roy Keane may have been relegated with Forest, but Man U bought him. Chambers was relegated with Boro and now looks likely to suffer the same fate with Fulham, will Man U buy him? Not a chance, nor will Liverpool, Man City or Chelsea. Hopefully the toot will take him on loan and suffer the same fate as Boro and Fulham!

17.) 04 Mar 2019
04 Mar 2019 17:23:00
Robbie its not about differing, its about whether we can get good money for an improved chambers or he becomes part of the squad. It will be one or the other.

18.) 04 Mar 2019
04 Mar 2019 17:51:45
I don't see Chambers exactly slotting into the first team next season, but then again based on his current form he is a better back-up to Torriera or Xhaka in the DM role than Elneny currently is, and he ticks the home player box, so I can see us keeping him next season and cashing in on Elneny instead.

19.) 04 Mar 2019
04 Mar 2019 20:39:57
Speaking of Elneny, I was thinking today What exactly does Xhaka do that Elneny doesn't do? Seriously.
Both hit an occasional decent long range pass well but Elneny tackles better in my opinion, I'm just wondering apart from 30 million what is the difference between the two?

20.) 04 Mar 2019
04 Mar 2019 21:07:02
I think xhaka, gunner, takes longer to do his hair than al ninny. Other than that, they are both about as useful.

21.) 05 Mar 2019
05 Mar 2019 05:26:43
I agree that Elneny has to depart, but do not agree that Chambers is worth keeping when he returns because he is arguably better than Elneny and is homegrown. As cover for Torreira and Xhaka, we also have Maitland-Niles and Willock, two young and hopefully improving homegrown players. If we sell Elneny for 8-10m and Chambers for £10-15m, we have £18-25m to spend on one player which would in my opinion be a far better option than keeping Chambers. Emery clearly didn't rate Chambers as he sent him out on loan, which will be further confirmed if we sell him this summer. Chambers failed to convince as a RB, as a CB and now as a DM, he simply isn't good enough.

22.) 05 Mar 2019
05 Mar 2019 20:48:10
Yes you are right robbie, i bet fergie didn't rate beckham when he sent him to preston. Spuds obviously didn't rate kane and ali, when they sent them out to lower division teams. We can't rate nelson or bielik either. You only send rubbish players out on loan. Lol.

05 Mar 2019 21:00:08
Just for the record about Emery not rating chambers, he signed a new four year contract in july, before he went to Fulham. At least a bit of foresight from us, with him doing so well. Whatever happens.
