Seri to Fulham seems like a massive coup for them!

18 Jun 2018 06:27:01
Good morning eds, any news on adil?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of anything new.}

1.) 18 Jun 2018 09:08:41
OK thanks mate.

01 Feb 2018 23:42:15
all the info i have seem on the length of ozil, mikhi and aubas contracts seems to be 3 and a half years, is this right? it seems mad to only tie down your record signing and the player you have broken your wage structure for to reasonably short contracts, we will have to give them massive pay rises again in 2 years or risk going through the same thing as we have this year all over again. especially as ozil knows how to play it to a tee.

1.) 02 Feb 2018 01:32:51
I think age might have a factor they are all approaching 30 so makes sense.

2.) 02 Feb 2018 14:52:01
Clubs are giving shorter deals as the wages have risen to such high figures and in the cases of Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang they will be entering their 30's during the term of their deals. The thing that makes no sense is the absurdly transfer fees paid for players that only have 3 and a half year deals. So Aubameyang will cost a combined total of around £87m in wages and transfer fee, for only 3 and a half years.

03 Jun 2017 22:56:57
"Juventus have agreed a deal with Arsenal to sign Wojciech Szczesny for €16m (£14m) . He is seen as the long-term heir to Gianluigi Buffon. (Sky in Italy) " interesting if true, i haven't seen much of him in italy anyone know if he's improved alot? if he has we need a replacement for cech in the not to distant future so that could be a mistake.

1.) 05 Jun 2017 01:00:01
Szczesny has improved massively at Roma and Ospina looks to be off. I reckon Wenger will try to keep Szczesny as understudy to Cech in the league and play him in Europe/ domestic comps, and look to replace Petr after the end of next season (just my guess) .

21 Mar 2017 14:20:13
hi ed, i remember you saying dybala was our top target before he joined juventus, would we still hold any interest? thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I am pretty sure I have never used the term "top target" but Arsenal were interested when Paulo Dybala was at Palermo and they made a cash offer - but it is short of what Palermo were looking for.

Right now Juventus would like to keep Dybala but are aware that there is interest from Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The player will move to Real Madrid if they can strike a deal but what they will offer to start with will be two players plus a little cash. Barcelona would need to sell to make anything happen. Arsenal can strike him off the list.}

1.) 22 Mar 2017 01:29:56
Sorry yes, preferred option was I think what you said. Thanks for the info as always Ed.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

In reply to the post down the page about whether it matters that we can match Utd etc for the top names or just find gems, I got drunk and forgot I had posted! 😂 Really if we want to be competing for the title we have to be able to buy some top players that you know will just come in and be ready straight away. With the gems, there's more element of risk that they are not ready or they don't make the difference otherwise their price would be higher. For every guendousi or Torreira there's an asano, perez, elneny, gabriel who aren't going to make the grade and you're stuck with for a while. Equally we've been heavily linked to players who would of been phenomenal bargains yet never took the risk for whatever reason van dijk at celtic, manolas at olympiacos, alderwierld before going to Southampton spring to mind, but hopefully that was just the old scouting team and it will all change now.

1.) 10 Dec 2018 10:12:15
To be fair we have paid upwards of £50 million for a player so we will spend a fair bit.

I think United is probably a poor example to give as they get mugged off for every pony going and that clown Woodward seems happy to keep paying it in fees or wages.

I’d like to think our lot are way smarter than that and City and Liverpool generally pay more realistic fees as do Chelsea now and get far better players for their money, well if you forget about Morata and Bakayoko! 😂.

2.) 10 Dec 2018 10:18:38
Equally though Eden mate for every mega money signing that lives up to their price tag there are 2 that don't.
There is no guarantee because if there were Pogba would be in the running for the PFA player of the year instead of sat on the United bench and Mesut too come to that.
It's easier to identify proven talent which is why they come at such a premium price but surely that's why Sven is here. We don't have United or City financial resources so we have to find another way and when you look at the likes of Kante Torreira Mahrez to name but 3 players no one had herd of before they were linked to premier league clubs but are now A listers in the premier league.
Us fans like our club to sign players we know about and can instantly excited about seeing in an Arsenal shirt, it's only natural but in reality is all about what they deliver in the shirt that matters long after the price tag has been disregarded.

3.) 10 Dec 2018 11:12:50
I know things haven't gone well recently for them but Southampton seeded to have a good system in place a few years back, I think it was Les Reid who explained they were constantly on the look out for a replacement manager, full back, striker and every other part of the team just in case they lost the ones they had so they were ready to go if needed, proactive rather than reactive if you like, and for a while it worked well for them.
I think smarter planning smarter scouting and smarter coaching and management will see us bridge the financial gap in the coming years and who knows people might be using the Arsenal way as a model for success again really soon :-)
Well if we can't dare to dream now when can we :-)

4.) 10 Dec 2018 22:42:43
Utd and Citeh have spent similar amounts in the last few years. The difference in football quality is universes apart. The coach plays a big part in the way a team/ player performs. Pep is getting the best out of his team, maureen is actually holding them back. Money certainly helps, no question but the coach and back up is just as important.

5.) 11 Dec 2018 13:34:41
Totally agree with all that Steve.

6.) 12 Dec 2018 16:13:08
Guys not been on much I'm the last 8 months or so. But so glad for the change and once again enjoying watching us. Can't really fault anything.

Few more windows and I am sure emery will have his team sorted.

Have a good Christmas and New year also to Wenger I'm sure he is enjoying the chilled TV work and his life once again.

Have a good one people xx.

7.) 12 Dec 2018 17:55:19
And you Derby, keep popping in, the gaps are too long.

8.) 12 Dec 2018 18:01:45
Hey Derby,

Good to see you back, have a great one too mate. 👍🏼.

9.) 12 Dec 2018 21:32:28
Got to say, loving the avatar Stoner.

06 Dec 2018 14:02:34
I'm absolutely amazed fellaini didn't get a card for pulling guendousis hair! That was an incredibly dirty way to stop a player! I thought that was disgusting.

1.) 06 Dec 2018 14:39:21
Robert huth got 3 games ban for doing same to Fellaini.

{Ed001's Note - Cristiano Ronaldo got sent off for it.}

2.) 06 Dec 2018 15:51:46
Apparently he should have been sent off, violent conduct but because mariner took action because he saw fit to give a free kick. No more action can be taken.

3.) 06 Dec 2018 15:54:57
I was going to say I would of put it at close to a red, not especially dangerous, although might hurt someone's neck at speed, but just generally a terrible example for a role model to set kids, similar to spitting at someone.

4.) 06 Dec 2018 18:39:44
I was going to say he should be at a club like Stoke but the truth is he’s at the new rich Stoke City, they’re playing a very similar brand of 💩🏉.

5.) 06 Dec 2018 21:55:48
I agree Eden it's on a par with spitting and biting, football has always been a physical game and there will always be foul play along the line, for me an outfield player punching the ball off the line or pulling an opponents shirt in order to stop a certain goal are as upfront and honest as a foul can even be, but biting spitting and hair pulling? What's next scratching someone's face with their freshly painted false nails?

13 Nov 2018 01:23:33
Hi Ed I was wondering what happens with fines, you often see players, managers or teams get fined by the FA or UEFA, usually it's peanuts in the world of football and you think more that's not going to make much difference to them, rather than I wonder where the money goes. But the one that stood out was city's fine of £49 million for breaching ffp, which is an absurd punishment for spending too much money (if you spend too much money you then have to pay more money! 😂) but are they transparent about what happens to that fine or does it disappear shadily? Which I would find more disturbing than someone spending too much of their own money on a club they own.

{Ed002's Note - The FFP fine ended up being €20M for Manchester City which wa pair. As you say most fines are of no consequence which is why you will see a continued increase in other sanctions - UEFA take revenue income now. The likes of Tirana, Itysh and Vojvodina lost the Europa League I come in fines. soon were banned for two seasons, etc.. it is better than CHF55k for Sevilla for an extremely questionable deal or further warnings to the likes of Liverpool who are the most charged club by UEFA.}

1.) 13 Nov 2018 14:08:44
Thanks ed.

17 Oct 2018 16:41:54
Do you know if wenger was offered the Monaco job but turned it down? I would of thought that would be the perfect fit for him a club he's familiar with and lots of young players to improve, far less risk than henry.

1.) 17 Oct 2018 19:44:08
I don’t know why you are worried, not saying you but I have seen many who wanted Henry to be given the Arsenal job. It’s a bit like the men who dump their girlfriends and then bitch about their exes new boyfriend just to make themselves feel superior.

2.) 17 Oct 2018 20:44:12
I'm not worried by anything, just I wish arsene well and want to see him do well in whatever he does next and I think he would of been perfectly suited to that job. But I hope Henry succeeds, I wouldn't of wanted him as our manager, maybe in the future, but not as his first job.

3.) 17 Oct 2018 21:09:08
Me too Eden I wish Arsene the best and I struggle to understand any Arsenal fan or anyone at all who doesn't.

4.) 18 Oct 2018 05:47:47
I hope he joins a non epl club and wins the league. I have nothing but respect and love for him. I saw the best epl team in history, best players, goals and football under him. He has also set the bar for achievements and how we play.

5.) 18 Oct 2018 07:46:02
It will be interesting to see where Wenger turns up.
1. International Management - He stated that an International manager should share the same nationality as the country, so France would be his team and having won the World Cup, that job is unlikely to be vacated any time soon.
2. Premier League management - Would he take a job in direct competition wth his beloved Arsenal?
3. Cease managing and take a directorship role at PSG or another club - Having rested, I am not sure he believes he is ready to move upstairs.
4. Manage overseas in Japan, China, etc. A possibility, although with a daughter and a life in Europe, would he move to Asia?
5. Replace a manger at a top European club, such as Bayern, Real Madrid, Barca, etc. This would be my guess, with the backing a top club would give him, he could prove successful.
At Arsenal his decline began when Dein and Fiszman departed and he took over total control, something he wasn't capable of, as many aspects were beyond him and he left looking a broken man. A rest and the backing at a top European club looks the way forward, assuming he would be offered such a job as he approaches 70 years of age and his relative failure in his final phase at Arsenal.

6.) 18 Oct 2018 08:31:35
He is talking about January the 1st as his return to work date so to me that suggests he is looking to take up either a non management role upstairs somewhere or in a country where their season is in between seasons like Sweden or even the States as a coach.
In a less well known footballing league he could prehaps have the same effect as he did in England all those years ago.
But my guess is he will take up a director of football role somewhere which would be funny because it's only a year or so back when he claimed not to know what a director of football did when Arsenal we talking about introducing one :-)
Whatever he does i hope it goes well for him and he's really happy doing it.

19 Sep 2018 20:28:07
I saw sampdoria against fiorentina was on today, I thought uefa didn't allow league games on the same day as the champions league? I'm sure I've seen that the PL wasn't allowed to before, did I imagine that?

Hey Ed I enjoy your reviews, it's stuff you don't often see in papers, anything funny or interesting that's not generally covered would interest me, but it is a sports site so if it was totally random it might be a bit weird 😂.

{Ed001's Note - I just mean that I have a habit of getting off track when I don't have a specific topic I am working on. Like when I put a reply to a question I can end up rambling and the reply ends up telling some story about when my great-grandad escaped from prison, changed his name and ended up becoming headmaster of a prestigious private school. Just because, as you type one thing leads on to another if you are not strict with your topic. Basically I was just asking if people wanted me to strictly stick to football, open it up to all sports or just start on a theme and see where it takes me.}

Will Nelson be given a chance or will we try and buy a right winger? Shame if he's not given an opportunity.

Well Yeh there's only so much instruction you can give someone, they have to be able to think for themselves if something unforseen happens on the pitch.

That's slightly reassuring, we are interested in him then? Does klopp not already do that? And he hasn't looked that great for you?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know of any interest in him from Arsenal and he would prefer to return to Spain. Klopp likes players to use their own brain and think for themselves, he gives them room to make choices for themselves.}

we really need a top quality CB, but utd do too and we won't be able to match them in a bidding war for the very best. also they seem hard and expencive to find, think how much city have spent just on CBs before settling. utd bought 2 £30 mil CBs and most of their fans think they need one or two moreand the ones they are linked with are £60-90 mil, i doubt we would spend much over £30 mil on a CB and in the current market £30 mil can still be a bit of a gamble. I think we need a winger too, but i'm really excited for nelson to come back and on current form it would be hard to aquire a better winger. I fear if we did find one he might move on to get game time. i would hope he can fill the winger position and spend as much as possible on a top CB.

Stoke fans staying classy as ever.

{Ed001's Note - I know you Arsenal fans have a close relationship with them! I find it difficult not to want Stoke to keep getting relegated. Any set of fans that boo a player merely for getting his leg broken by one of their thugs deserves nothing but misery.}

What was that about stoner? I rember reading a post where he was really bitter about Liverpool and hated them, I didn't think there was any rivalry between spurs and pool.
