all the info i have seem on the length of ozil, mikhi and aubas contracts seems to be 3 and a half years, is this right? it seems mad to only tie down your record signing and the player you have broken your wage structure for to reasonably short contracts, we will have to give them massive pay rises again in 2 years or risk going through the same thing as we have this year all over again. especially as ozil knows how to play it to a tee.

1.) 02 Feb 2018 01:32:51
I think age might have a factor they are all approaching 30 so makes sense.

2.) 02 Feb 2018 14:52:01
Clubs are giving shorter deals as the wages have risen to such high figures and in the cases of Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang they will be entering their 30's during the term of their deals. The thing that makes no sense is the absurdly transfer fees paid for players that only have 3 and a half year deals. So Aubameyang will cost a combined total of around £87m in wages and transfer fee, for only 3 and a half years.

"Juventus have agreed a deal with Arsenal to sign Wojciech Szczesny for €16m (£14m) . He is seen as the long-term heir to Gianluigi Buffon. (Sky in Italy) " interesting if true, i haven't seen much of him in italy anyone know if he's improved alot? if he has we need a replacement for cech in the not to distant future so that could be a mistake.

1.) 05 Jun 2017 01:00:01
Szczesny has improved massively at Roma and Ospina looks to be off. I reckon Wenger will try to keep Szczesny as understudy to Cech in the league and play him in Europe/ domestic comps, and look to replace Petr after the end of next season (just my guess) .

21 Mar 2017 14:20:13
hi ed, i remember you saying dybala was our top target before he joined juventus, would we still hold any interest? thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I am pretty sure I have never used the term "top target" but Arsenal were interested when Paulo Dybala was at Palermo and they made a cash offer - but it is short of what Palermo were looking for.

Right now Juventus would like to keep Dybala but are aware that there is interest from Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The player will move to Real Madrid if they can strike a deal but what they will offer to start with will be two players plus a little cash. Barcelona would need to sell to make anything happen. Arsenal can strike him off the list.}

1.) 22 Mar 2017 01:29:56
Sorry yes, preferred option was I think what you said. Thanks for the info as always Ed.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

18 Jan 2017 22:42:06
Hey Ed, if Sanchez leaves, which looks increasingly likely does that affect ozils likely hood to sign a new contract? Or is there other issues delaying him signing?

{Ed025's Note - the only way it will affect him eden is if he feels that arsenal are selling their best players and will not be contenders, mesut is a winner and will want assurances on the direction the club is going and to be honest who can blame him..

1.) 19 Jan 2017 15:15:53
i agree ed that's why we should be trying to land a great player now, that hopefully will encourage them to stay, rather than waiting for them to leave and having to try and replace them in a panic. that's why when we only signed cech and no out field players, i think that was a massive turning point in the wrong direction. had we shown ambition then and really challenged or won everyone would of been happy rather than meekly scraping second on the last day probably isn't what either of them are looking for in their prime

{Ed025's Note - its hard to argue with any of that eden..

2.) 19 Jan 2017 15:47:41
Ed in your honest opinion, do u think sanchez will stay or leave?

{Ed025's Note - its a 50/50 call i would say apex, i think he is pretty happy at arsenal but money always plays a part in negotiations and i expect he will want a substantial rise, it could also depend on how he sees arsenal progressing and he will want assurances on how the club will move forward, its not greed imo but he will not want to spend his best days in a team that are not contending, if i had to put money on it i would suspect he will stay but there are factors that may change that mate..

3.) 19 Jan 2017 16:41:10
Thanks ed, one last question sorry, do u have any details on the futures of chambo, wilshere or even gibbs please?

{Ed025's Note - nothing that is tangible apex but i dont see a future for any of them in an arsenal shirt mate..

4.) 19 Jan 2017 18:08:44
Very surprising ed, lol this is the last question, is allegri going to be at arsenal next season

{Ed025's Note - i will go out on a limb here apex and say no..

5.) 19 Jan 2017 22:30:15
Ur helpful ed, last question- do u see wenger staying?

{Ed025's Note - he stayed for this season after a plea from the board apex, he said he wanted to leave last year and as far as i know nothing has changed, i think a lot will depend where arsenal finish this campaign but if i was pushed i would think he will leave..

6.) 19 Jan 2017 23:27:12
do you know if we are willing to go anywhere close to what he's asking ed? from his point of view, he's got no real tie to arenal and that is the going rate for a player of his quality and a number of other clubs pay him it. so i can understand him expecting it. but it creates a massive gulf between the players wages if we give it to him so i can also understand why we might be reluctant. but pesonally i hope we pay it, we've been saving all this money for something! :P

{Ed025's Note - i dont know what hes asking for eden as reports vary but its certain to be a lot more than his present salary, top world class players like alexis are on mega money and i think arsenal will have to hike his wages significantly if he wants parity with them, the problem will be that if he does get the rise hes asking that all the others will be knocking on the managers door asking for their slice of the cake, its a tough one mate..

7.) 20 Jan 2017 00:17:36
Ed025 great information and insight here, thanks.

{Ed025's Note - no probs lucas..

8.) 20 Jan 2017 15:28:56
even though wages are ludicrous and frankly disgust me, they what they are and the problem i see is if we aren't willing to match the top wages with him, we certainly won't be able to get a similar quality replacement, because they will also be demanding top wages and will require a huge transfer fee as well, that might be offset by his sale. but they've then got to aclimatise. and very few players are likely to have as much of an influence as him. it seems less risk to me to pay what he wants. an annoying thing as well, is we have to pay the highest ticket prices, but the club don't then back us by matching the top wages!

9.) 20 Jan 2017 10:20:09
Ed you have been brilliant, very helpful. I like your opinions. If arsene foes leave if u had to put money on who will replace him who would u say?

{Ed025's Note - in my opinion (and at this stage it is just that) i think they have a couple of options apex, they could go for the up and coming forward thinking manager like eddie howe or maybe a top european coach like simeone, myself i would not rule out a cheeky little swoop for koeman and i think if they did he would jump at the chance, i would be devastated but i understand that when a club like arsenal come a calling...its not easy to say no mate..

10.) 20 Jan 2017 18:08:50
Thanks ed, really appreciate your approaches the last few days mate

{Ed025's Note - glad to be of help mate..

11.) 20 Jan 2017 18:07:47
How well backed do you think koeman will be by the new owner Ed? He's done good business so far, do you think he will be able to push for top 4 or maybe better? Or Is that unlikely?

{Ed025's Note - top 4 wont happen this year eden but that is the aim mate, farhad moshiri is backing the manager and funds are available so it looks like good times ahead at goodison...well for now..

07 Jun 2016 18:01:03
is there much interest in bellerin and any risk of him leaving? have we improved his deal?

{Ed025's Note - there is interest from barca and city to name just 2 eden, i am unaware at this time on any improved offer from arsenal mate..

1.) 07 Jun 2016 19:49:52
bloody short sighted if we haven't given him a new deal, he was on far less than pretty much every other player, 10k i think, having been one of the first names on the team sheet for 2 years.

hi eds hope you're well, i was wondering what your opinions were on if the price of transfers will keep rising or the bubble will burst soon? like the last 2 years especially this one they have become insane! £50 mil for walker, pickford+keene £30mil, lukaku £90mi, lacazette £52mil £40 mil for sigurdson turned down! only a few years ago you would expect the very best for £30 ish mil, now that seems the minimum for any player worth taking a punt on!

{Ed002's Note - It is the Marxists wanting a share of your television money Eden. It will continue until there is a breakaway that will rupture everything else.}

1.) 13 Jul 2017 22:46:55
Ha it tickled me that answer. It can only be good news for spurs. They will have there council house paid off a lot quicker than we paid ours off at this rate.

19 May 2017 12:49:41
dont know if anyone watched the league two playoffs. as i'm from exeter we don't get many exciting games down here but both legs of both playoffs were brilliant! shame there's not more games like that in the prem. technically pretty shocking! but for edge of your seat entertainment it doesn't get much better! didn't know was going to win and last minute drama! both teams trying to win certainly beats both teams trying not to lose! i imagine the europa league final will be stale by comparison! thankfully exeter won and luton didn't win by cheating! sorry not arsenal related, just wanted to share my joy! we don't get much down here! XD.

1.) 19 May 2017 15:35:13
What do you mean, you don't get much, they've just started building a huge new Ikea! 😁😂😂.

2.) 19 May 2017 18:26:04
About to get a new bus station and swimming pool too! Splashing the cash! Still have to wait an hour for a bus though! 😂.

3.) 19 May 2017 19:27:43
An hour waiting for a bus is nothing Eden mate, Arsenal have been missing the bus for over a decade now mate :-)

4.) 19 May 2017 19:50:35
I thought you actually lived out at Exmouth eden, home of the orange chips! 😂😂.

5.) 19 May 2017 20:44:10
Do you know Devon stoner? I live near Exmouth, in Ottery home of. Sweet fa!

6.) 20 May 2017 08:30:00
Yes mate, lived and worked in Exeter for a few years, went out with a girl from Ottery, think she lived in Claremont Fields. Isn't there a daft one way system in the town?

7.) 20 May 2017 14:23:29
damn! no one knows ottery! haha! did you ever go to the tar barrels? yes its dredful! most of the town is one way! I've met two people coming the wrong way! its a nightmare!

17 May 2017 11:16:00
not arsenal related, but i saw a headline: "Pep Guardiola has made a personal phone call to Milan 'keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to try and lure the youngster to Man City this summer, according to reports in Italy. "
and i was wondering what constitutes tapping up?

{Ed002's Note - Making personal phone calls to players if you do not have permission to do so constitutes "tapping up" - but this is the Arsenal page and perhaps you should take it to the Manchester City page to discuss.}

1.) 17 May 2017 11:58:24
thanks for your reply ed, sorry it wasnt arsenal related, i was just wondering as a general football question rather than about city and didn't want to take it to there page incase it riled them up! XD are there many consequences from it? you don't hear about it too often, is that because managers generally don't do it, or they're just not stupid enough to let anyone hear about it?

{Ed002's Note - This is not the place to discuss. It is an unsubstantiated accusation from a press that simply makes things up for the gullible English fans. If he did speak to him I am pretty sure it would have been nothing more than a misdialled number.}

2.) 17 May 2017 12:25:07
he will end up at city. offering him 70-80k a week i believe. great prospect.

08 May 2017 17:02:19
a media article with the head line "Romelu Lukaku tells media to stop transfer speculation over Everton future" you can only laugh at their shamelessness!

27 Apr 2017 23:09:19
Ed01, I saw you made an interesting post on the Utd page regarding wenger believing in "the red zone" and if he put our platers through tougher training they wouldn't suffer as many injuries, because they would be fitter able to sustain harder matches. I was wondering surely that would be a common knowledge thing? train harder, last longer? Surely other people at the club must have different opinions to him, is he not willing to take on their opinions?

{Ed001's Note - no one at the club has any opinion other than Wenger. It is a total dictatorship.}

1.) 28 Apr 2017 06:23:39
The conditioning of our players under Wenger has been in debate for some time. I discussed this with friend who is a Doctor and he felt due to amount of injuries suffered that the players were simply not conditioned correctly. You only have to look at the toot, who are worked extremely hard under Pochettino to see that they do not suffere anywhere near as manty injuries and that when they do get injured players generally return more quickly. Many players in the PL look far more muscular than our players, Unfortunately Wenger is extremely stubborn and slow to change in this respect.

2.) 28 Apr 2017 13:32:29
Thanks for the reply Ed, though very disappointing to hear, no one can know everything and surely the best way to progress is to take on board different ideas and use the ones that best suit you.

{Ed001's Note - it happens to all dictators after a while. They slowly end up losing all those that say no and argue with them and surround themselves with yes men.}

He must be bonkers if he takes another job! He's in one of the most stressful jobs! Must have more money than he can spend! Put your feet up and enjoy retirement! 😂 but I don't imagine it's in his nature!

Does more clubs entering the bidding mean we can eke out more money? If he wants to go to city he can just refuse to sign for anyone else and hang around til the summer.

{Ed002's Note - Which "more clubs" are these? The wages are enough to stop most sides being interested.}

The board has a massive decision this summer, they let wenger dictate to them last season whether he stayed or not, but didn't give an answer til the last minute so no one else could be lined up, they can't do that again in a years time they have to know whether he's going at the end of this contract or not so someone is lined up! The situation last season was terrible planning! But if he is going to see out his contract is he allowed to take on the major rebuild that is needed, replacing sanchez, ozil, santi, cech and probably a few others.

It makes more sense to step down now and let a new manager come in and spend the money on the team they want, rather than if he is going in a year letting him spend big on players a new manager might not want, seems insane. I hope he has the decency to bow out gracefully at the end of the season and allow someone with new ideas to take it on and be able to form a team that's fully there's rather than in a year get a team on long contracts they haven't chosen.

Either that or double down back wenger fully and give him a 3 year contract to take it on himself. But that hasn't worked well so far! But at least new players would know where they stand and who they are signing for. Not you might be playing under someone else in a year, but you know probably not! No one knows til nearer the time!

yeh i'm not keen on west ham, all the money available in football and they managed to swindle the deal of the century for their stadium. although its more the olympic commitees fault for not getting a better deal, can't really blame west ham for getting the best deal for the club, but i do! lol.

I'm mostly worried about how our fans get treated, with everything going on, I can't imagine the sentiment towards bits is very cheerful over there! But hopefully there's a big police presence to prevent anything nasty, it wouldn't look good for them just before the world cup if there fans go on a rampage! But then we might have to worry about the police too!

I remember reading an article before city brought ottamendi when it was looking like he was going to Utd saying that mustafi was the better partner in the valencia defence, so I was really excited when we got him! That didn't turn out to be true though! 😂 I was much less excited about xhaka who was a liability before he came always getting sent off! I remember I was a massive critic of giroud as our main striker a few seasons back and we were never going to win the league with him, but we did always finish top 4, he knitted the team together a lot better. benching him and putting Sanchez up front seemed to be when it all went wrong, but probably more down to iwobi and welbeck being Sanchez replacements! If only we had a chance to stick with Sanchez out wide with laca or auba up front!

i think simeone would probably be the safest bet for being able to get us to compete, as we are often told our main problem is we don't have the money to compete, atleti are regularly there or there abouts despite having a massive disparity in spending power to Barcelona and real. however it might soon be a downer to watch, because his footballs effective, but not really entertaining and that's what i used to love about arsenal that we were really good to watch and at the minute i would much rather us win regularly no matter how we play. but i imagine he would have to spend pretty big to get players that would play the way he wants them. i can't see many of that team being able to transform from the casual football they play to the life or death body on the line football he demands! personally i would like sarri or jardim i think their brand of football suits us more and they are also managing to compete against teams with a much higher budget.

What I still can't get my head around is the debacle in the summer when he was given absolute control over his future and gave no decision for months, leaving everyone in limbo, until the only option was for him to sign, because it was too late to get anyone else anyway after just a couple weeks of no decision the board should of said you're clearly not 100% up for it, it should of been an instant yes! Let's do this! Back me big! I'm going to go out on top! Not just a meh! go on then let's carry on as we are.
