So The Ox has turned down Chelsea because they can't guarantee him a midfield position. Now he might go to Liverpool on a free. He's going to struggle getting the position he desires at a top club as they all have midfielders who are more disciplined and technically gifted than he is. a lot like Walcott I don't think he knows his best position.

He's an effective squad players as he's ok in variety of position but not a specialist in any. If he doesn't sign a new contract he has to be dropped by Arsenal to prepare for a future without him. Its leading up to the world cup and he may of shot himself in the foot. I say sell him or drop him. Its a shame as he's been injured consistently since he arrived.

This could of been the season he established himself as a first team regular and then moved onto bigger things. Oh well bon voyage! At least we won't have another expensive benchwarmer like Walcott.

He will go to Liverpool and if he stays fit, will play where ever klopp puts him. He will bring the best out of him but will he stay fit.

2.) 30 Aug 2017 18:37:17
We probably havee the weakest centre mid out of all the top 6, and Ox can't get a starting position.

He's going to go Liverpool?

Good luck getting in front of Courtinho, Can and Henderson.

3.) 30 Aug 2017 20:12:05
Dagenham I personally didn't want ox with us. I don't rate him nor think it's a wise career move for him because he will be a utility player for us. Play where and when needed by klopp.
He's never taking can (who is growing into a magnificent midfielder) or Hendersons positions. Nor wijnaldim when we play 3. Plus we've keita coming next season. So his central midfield dream is never happening with us. Maybe in carling cup / players injured he may get the chance.
But overall it's a strange one. For us, Massively overpriced for a squad player . he'll be a decent backup in various positions.

It was nice to have some positivity after the past few weeks. If rather focus on events in the pitch from now on. I'm starting to warm to Ramsey again and hope his form keeps improving. We lack nippy midfielders so hopefully he can avoid injury because we all know what he's capable of. Do you think Wilshere has a chance of getting in the first team now Coq is injured. We only have Elneny as back up and this could be an issue. Fingers crossed for a positive performance against Chelsea and more fans get behind the team.

I prefer Ramsey in an attacking midfield role. Against Bournemouth you will get away with it, but this may prove more problematic against the likes of Chelsea. It's interesting that we are still being linked with Lemar and Sterling, yet it's clear that we need a CB and a DM player. As I keep repeating Van Dyke and N'zonzi would transform the team.

2.) 11 Sep 2017 09:52:29
I agree on Ramsey RG, he's an attacking player and should be considered as one.
Any defensive work he does is a bonus and can never be relied on.
For me it's Ramsey or Ozil or Ramsey and Ozil plus a striker at most.
Le Coq is out so I'm not sure what we do in cmf against Chelsea now.
Xhaka and Kol I guess with Monreal at lb and Holding coming into the back 3?
If Mertesacker plays Chelsea will most definitely exploit him this time and we will get stuffed out of sight .
In my opinion Conte won't waste another opportunity to do so.

Guys we need to be more supportive as were playing directly into our opposition and media's hand. They want nothing more than us to go into complete crisis so they can gloat and put themselves on a pedestal. The reality is things aren't as good as they use to be but were certainly not in crisis. My home town club is Doncaster Rovers and they had a real crisis in the 90's. Finishing 5th is not the end of the world. We bought a couple of players who will improve the first eleven. Moved on some squad players as the Squad was oversized. Have a world class player who wants to leave and didn't buy all the players we want. That's hardly unusual for any club and we as fans need to understand that and get a sense of perspective. We can't compete financially with Utd, City or Chelsea to buy our way out of trouble. We're in the same boat as Liverpool, Spurs and Everton and have to buy astutely to claw out why to success. Sadly I fear that the fans are just forget that and have a negative atmosphere until Wenger leaves. This will be counter productive as it will most certainly effect the players on the pitch and it won't be until we go through a bunch of managers and mediocre seasons until we realise we need to be more patient and get behind the team. The league is more competitive than ever and there will always be teams who don't finish where they would like. That's what makes it so exciting. At least we've won a couple of FA Cups recently. Spurs and Liverpool haven't won anything since Klopp and Pochettino arrived yet but what was once a bad season for us is now a good season for them. Wenger will be gone soon so let's just get behind the team and just put pressure on the club to make the right signings and success will eventually come. Everybody is involved in a clubs success from the board, management, players and most importantly fans. But if we create a toxic environment nobody will want to play or join us so we need to be more constructive with our demands rather than just blame everything on one man. Last time I checked if I have a bad day at work it isn't my bosses fault. What we lack more than anything is leaders on the pitch. All I know is if I put on the shirt I would give 100% every time and would only blame myself if I didn't. I struggle to be sympathetic with overly paid dramatic players who blame everybody but themselves and it saddens me when fans get sucked into the drama of it all. The problem isn't Wenger, it's modern players, media and fans who demand success without effort. Sadly I agree Wengers time is up in football but not because he's a rubbish manager but because of the way the game is now.

I agree, but Wenger and the club tend to make things extremely difficult with some odd decisions that make little sense:

1) Allowing top players contracts to run down to a year when decisions must be made with 2 years to go.
2) Persevering with playing a suicidially high defensive line and zonal marking.
3) Playing players out of position. LB's at CB and a RWB at LWB, etc.
4) Having insufficient defenders and not putting enough emphasis on signing top notch defenders.
5) Keeping players at the club for way too long when they are simply niot good enough or injury prone.
6) Overpaying lower grade players making them virtually impossible to sell and difficult to move on.
7) Not pushing he boat out to make the extra 2 or 3 players that would turn us into serious contenders.
8) Wenger's total dominance at the club that stifles individuals and clearly makes some players fearful of shooting from distance and putting their foot in, for fear of reprisals.

Saying all this, now the window is closed we must as fans get behind Wenger and the team to create harmony, otherwise I fear the toxic environment will not be in our best interests. The sad thing is that having looked so solid in winning the FA Cup and Community Shiled, Wenger managed to undo all the good work with the inane selections and tactics used against Stoke and Liverpool, when the players were clearly unsettled and perhaps Lemar changed his mind about signing for us having witnessed the drubbing at Liverpool. I hope he comes to his senses and playes 3 CB's against Bournemouth, not LB's at CB and Bellerin at RB. He must also restore Kolasinac and Lacazette to the team.

2.) 02 Sep 2017 17:31:10
Arsenal have signed 2 good players this window and kept Sanchez, if wenger gets the formation right it could all change, the end of last season we were playing better and results showed that, ignore the media get behind the club! COYG.

31 Aug 2017 16:17:32
Look before I start I'm not sticking up for Wenger. Something very strange is happening at the moment at Arsenal. The fans are told Wenger signing is a catalyst for change and they've got £150m to spend. Summer starts off nicely with the signing of Lacazette and Kolisniac. Wenger says Sanchez is definitely not for sale. Squad players are sold for a combined fee over £70m. Come the final week of the transfer window Arsenal say they have no money and it's looking likely Sanchez will leave. I'm starting to get the feeling that the problems with the club start at board level and all they care about is making money. Perhaps Wenger came out and said he wants to keep Sanchez so that the board would be under pressure not to sell. The problems on the pitch are Wengers and the players. Signings and the way the club is run is Kroenke and the board. I know it's easy to blame one individual but the problems with Arsenal are much bigger than just Arsene. Its starts at the top and trickles down. Board, Manager and Players. I think Wengers being made a scapegoat and if fans really want change they have to put pressure on the board. Then they might finally spend big and actually change manager. Its easy for them at the moment because fans are directing all their anger at Wenger whilst the board kick back and still make a profit from our poor performances on the pitch.

Wenger controls everything at the club, not Kroenke. The criticism of Kroenke is that he backs his manager too much. Wenger views football as a profit making business and with no CL football this season he won't spend a penny on transfers. Assuming Sanchez departs for £60m and Lemar arrives for £90m, then as I have shown in a comment on thsi site, Arsenal will have spent virtually nothing on players this window.

2.) 31 Aug 2017 16:30:26
I wasn't aware that Arsenal said they had no money for signings. I was under the impression that this "no money" thing was said by one reporter. Am I wrong?

29 Aug 2017 01:22:54
After some contemplating. Arsenal should just sell any players who longer want to be at the club. It will be sad to see the ox, Ozil and Sanchez leave but realistically we would do better without as we would probably finish in the same position anyway. We can't build a team around want always. I also can't help but think their attitude has infected the club. We need more players with Giroux and Ramsey mentality who will sacrifice personal gain for the benefit of the club. The league is competitive and there will always be 3 teams in the top 7 disappointed come end of the season. Perhaps now is our time to take a step back so we can make 2 forward. We just need to lower our expectations otherwise the atmosphere will be toxic and not much fun and that will have a further impact on performances on the pitch. These players don't need anymore excuses to underperform.

Ox is g9ne, Ozil appears unwanted and if a £50m + offer comes in for Sanchez comes in I should be accepted as having a player at the club running down his contract is not sensible. We need a new manager and now. Rafa Benitez would be my choice as he think it would be possible to get him and he is very experienced and players respect and want to play for him.

2.) 29 Aug 2017 08:55:15
Benitez!? I remember how frustrated and annoyed Liverpool fans got with him after questionable tactics. I think sometimes some want change so much they look to anyone. Each to their own tho mate 👍🏻.

3.) 29 Aug 2017 08:59:58
Benitez.? Have a word with yourself.

4.) 29 Aug 2017 09:16:08
It was a suggestion bearing in mind who may be available immediately. Benitez has a good record and would set the team out well and has the respect of the players. My own preference would have been Marco Silva, a bright young manager. A question to those criticising my suggestion of Benitez, do you want Wenger to go and if not which manager that is/ could realistically be enticed away from their current club?

5.) 29 Aug 2017 10:08:58
Not criticising you just I don't feel Benitez would do any good. Just my view I'm entitled to that like you are. I don't really want wenger to go right now as I can see what good that'll do few days before the window closes. However he should've gone after the fa cup. It's difficult and pointless to talk about who would be available as we haven't a clue. Would viera be worth a go? Saw his interview today and he said he loves our football but we're missing strength in our team. So perhaps he has an idea what's going wrong. Then again it is obvious.

6.) 29 Aug 2017 10:22:52
Point taken D16, I just get a little touchy when comments are attcaked without a practical response, which you subsequently gave. My feeling is that Wenger's summer window, despite a great start has been terrible since. We have sold Gabriel and clearly he has fallen out with Mustafi and previously with Perez. He has persevered with Welbeck who has had a poor start, yet Perez scored and performed reasonably well last season. We have reverted to an absurdly high defensive line, with no defensve cover from the WB's and midfield. Also this poslicy of playing LB's at CB, when CB's are available is simply idiotic. Against Leicester I understood it as we had little option, but we had CB's available against Stoke and Liverpool. We appear to be losing Oxlade and Mustafi in addition to Gabriel, with the likelyhood of no quality signings. There are reports of Sanchez being sold to Man C for a fee plus Sterling. I would jump at this as the chances of Sanchez signing an extension are remote, so keeping him will cost us a huge amount. Sterling is a young English player, who scores. Then we could put the fee received towards trying to buy Van Dijk and N'Zonzi. Two players that I thought we should have gone for ages ago, when Van Dijk was at Celtic and N'Zonzi at Stoke. These players would give us the physicality and height we desperately need. I would also keep Mustafi, as a back three of Mustafi, Van Dijk and Koscielny would be awesome, with Bellerin and Kolasinac as WB's, protected by N'zonzi and Xhaka. Management-wise an alternative intelligent qucik fix would be Henry and Vieira.

7.) 29 Aug 2017 11:40:27
RG that post is spot on. Like I said I wanted him to leave in the summer. But this moment in time I dunno what good it'll do. The team selections have be weird I agree. Let's take out the Leicester game because suspensions and injuries played a part. Why on earth is monreal at cb? Bellerin at lwb when we had two much better choices on the bench. Same with welbeck. I like the guy but he in not a good cf. laca and giroud on the bench?! Why. And a good dm is needed. Not a fan of sterling myself. Would rather push for aguero in the deal but I can't see it.

The club is entering a period of adjustment as Arsene enters his final 2 seasons. Provisions and a new structure needs to put in place for Arsenal to build on. I think as fans were going to lower our expectations for a couple of years. The squad needs a clear out and fresh faces bought in. We should support the club but constructively need to direct what changes we believe need to be made. I can accept Wenger staying so long as the club shoes it's preparing for his departure and the club's future. Wengers biggest weakness is his loyalty towards average players. A director of football would hopefully fix this issue. A clear out is needed and promote some youth. We won't finish top 4 but at least it's a platform to build on. The most important thing to me first is having players who want to be at Arsenal. Then players who always give 100%. Arsenal has lost its ways since the Ozil signing and it needs to get back to where it belongs. We might have to do something similar to Liverpool and Spurs as we don't have the finances to compete with Chelsea. City and Utd.

Ramsey and play 2 cdms. Xhaka and Coquelin (although they need better ones) . I actually can't bare to watch Ozil anymore. Off the ball he's lazy. Too many players didn't put in the effort required Xhaka, Ozil and The Ox were dreadful. I say sell Ozil and The Ox. I don't care who they get in I just don't want their poor attitude to infect other players. Xhaka next if he doesn't get his act together.

Xhaka and Iwobi are squad players until they prove otherwise. I don't think either is better than Ox nore is he much better than them. The difference with Iwobi is he is at the beginning of his development yet the Ox is in the middle of his. If he doesn't sign a new contract I'd rather Arsenal played Iwobi to further his development quicker as we will need him on form to prepare for Sanchez and oxs inevitable departure. The Ox is playing a dangerous game leading up to the world cup as Arsenal have plenty of players who can do a similar job.

The Ox better be motivated or else he will not be going to the world cup! If he doesn't perform Bellerin is a more than decent FB and Iwobi is just as good up top.
I don't worry about Sanchez form as he's actually world class! At least we had him for 4 years:) He's done more than the Ox has and will ever do. I don't mind players wanting to leave or demanding high wages as long as they do the business on the pitch to a high consistent standard anybody who doesn't is easily replaceable.
